I went to the store to see what they had to offer. Tom gave me some brochures to take home and look over. I called and told him what we were looking for. He got some samples in, had them set up and I went back in to look at them. Placed our order at that time and a tentative installation date was set. I called Tom on Monday of that week (installation) to see if he ha received everything. At that time we discovered some confusion regarding propane vs natural gas. We needed propane and what he had in was natural gas. Tom made some calls and let me know that afternoon that everything would be ready for installation on Thursday, around 2 pm. Paul came out and worked steadily until all three units were installed and working properly. He showed us how to use the remotes to set the temperature, installed the remote holders in convenient locations, and cleaned up the packaging materials. All in all, a good experience and the fireplaces and stove are beautiful in our home, and really put out the heat.
Description of Work: Installed two gas fireplaces (one 24" and one 26") and one pewterfinish gas stove.

It will not be necessary to visit the showroom of this company or to consider buying a new unit, however. We called a second fireplace company, which sent out a person today. This person drove 25 miles to get here. He came in, took the frame and glass window off the fireplace, examined the fireplace, and determined that some dirt that had fallen into the gas line. He removed the dirt with some equipment he brought in from his truck, and turned on the unit. It immediately worked. No bleeding of the gas line was necessary. For coming out, doing a diagnosis, and completing the job, he charged $90.00. For the employee s time driving here from the Fireplace Shop, 8 miles away. I mailed in a check for $50.00 to cover his time and cost of transportation. I consider my relationship with this company closed.
Description of Work: Upon arrival, the employee expressed surprise that he was to repair our fireplace as he thought he was to clean it. I said no, we called explicitly to get it working again. I showed him the gas line to the fireplace which we had turned off as a precaution, since the fireplace was not working. He expressed dismay at this, saying that the line would need bleeding to make it functional and this would take a while. I then took him into our living room and he stood there looking at the fireplace while I proceeded to take off the frame and glass covering of the fireplace so that he could look inside. He said wow I ve never seen a fireplace this old. He continued to stare at the fireplace and I left the room. I assume that at some point while I was out of the room, he called someone at your shop. My father was sitting in the room while the call was made and he later reported to me that your employee said to the person on the phone: I don t know what to do with this. By the time I came back into the room, he was still staring at the fireplace. He told me that someone from the company would call me and discuss with me the charges for repairing the fireplace, which he estimated to be about $500. No one ever called me. In the meantime, he said that he figured that one of the boxes that controlled the fireplace (he pointed to a metal box on the floor of the fireplace unit) was burned out and would need to be replaced. He then stooped down to get the serial number of the fireplace unit and wrote it down. He told me he could not possibly fix the unit, and because it was so old, a new part might not be available. He then began to tell me about how good new fireplaces were and that I should drop by your showroom and look at them. He did not put anything back together, but left the glass screen and frame laying against the living room couch. He then presented me with a bill for $129.99. I refused to pay it, as he had done absolutely nothing but come to the house. He had no idea what was wrong with my fireplace. He was, however, a good salesman, and did convince me to come to his shop to look at new units. How much would one cost? He told me that one would cost $3,500.
