I thought the price was good and I was very pleased with their work. I had another roofer 15 years ago do some roofing for me, I went back to them to have them do this job and they no longer did residential and I had a good enough rapport with them and I asked who would they recommend and they recommended Seagate.
Description of Work: We used Seagate Roofing and Waterproofing for our roofing. They completely replaced the roof on my cottage.

After multiple delays due to weather and frozen ground, it turned out that the actual crews that would do the work and the original salesman were not on the same page about the work. Two and a half months later when the crew came they again put off the work, this time due to rain. Next I received a call from one of the owners informing me that they may not be able do the work because they no longer felt comfortable with the job. They wanted to refund my deposit. He gave several reasons, including that his best equipment operator left the company and his current operator feared the job was too difficult and possibly dangerous. A second reason he gave was in response to my informing the crew that there may be some concrete road fill in the ground. He was worried that running into concrete would be a problem. He stated that he would consult with the area soil conservation agency to learn more about what might be in the ground. To my knowledge he did not make this inquiry, but instead decided not to do the work because of the reason mentioned above. When I challenged him and suggested he was obligated to find a way to complete the work according to the contract, he became combative and unprofessional. He accused me of being insensitive to the safety of his workers asking me if I wanted to see someone killed on the job, told me to and quot;do what I had to doand quot; in terms of trying to enforce the contract. He got loud with me on the phone and made no attempt to problem solve. Not only had I been paying interest on the deposit for two months, but the time that elapsed placed my property in danger of further damage and I missed the opportunity to seek other bids for the job. In the end I was provided a refund plus interest on my deposit. I acknowledge the safety concerns but maintain that they should have been part of the original conversation before the contract was offered. And, that a change in the staffing of the company was not my problem. I can't help but wonder if there were other motivations, such as perhaps they underbid the job and didn't want to deal with it, or once the weather broke they had plenty of other work so my job was insignificant. But this is just speculation on my part.
Description of Work: Provided a prompt and detailed bid and plan of action. The Sales person was responsive and helpful in explaining the complicated work that needed to be done to repair a failing foundation of our garage. The complicated nature of the work included the steep hill that the garage was on. This was in the dead of winter. I asked repeatedly during multiple phone conversations and onsite sessions with the salesman if the work could be done during the winter. I was informed that they can and must do it asap to avoid further damage. I signed a contract, paid the 1/2 deposit and scheduled the work.

Seagate dug out around the west wall of a duplex we owned. Solidified the foundation and water proofed as well. The team of workers were very neat and tidy on the job site. The job was done on time and as explained. The only down side was the price. Seemed very expensive for the amount of work done.

On May 30, 2013 I called Seagate Roofing to repair a leak on a flat roof. This roof had been replaced some twelve or more years ago along with the regular roof on my home. Over the years, I have had to call Seagate back numerous times to fix the flat roof whenever we had a hard rain. I have had to repair my kitchen ceiling numerous times because of this leak. Each time Seagate came out, they assured me the problem had been fixed. The latest time as I mentioned, was on May 30th. Bill Jones the sales representative came out. He suggested that he would have the bottom sheet of siding pulled off and the rubber extended up the side of the wall and the siding replaced. I put $120 down on a total payment of $350. On June 13, with a twenty minute warning, two workers came out. They did the above listed work but did not replace the siding. Wes (one of the men) told me that the earlier work on the roof had been done incorrectly. He was unaware until I told him, that it had been Seagate that had worked on it the previous four or five times. The roofers finished up and told me that they would come back the next day to seal the bottom part of the siding. This is where I made my big mistake, I paid the remaining balance. Now the waiting began. On June 26th (thirteen days and no workers), I called and talked to Patrick at Seagate. I explained the problem to him and he said he would call me back later in the day. I got no return call. On July 3rd, I called and asked for Patrick. I was put on hold, and then disconnected. I called again and asked for Patrick. After waiting for a few minutes, Steve (?) came to the phone. He told me that he would be out on Monday, July 8th between 5 and 6 p.m. No one showed up! On July 12, I called Bill Jones, the sales representative. He said that he was not happy to hear about my problem and that he would look into it and get someone out. he gave me his cell phone number. On July 16, I had still not heard from anyone so I called Bill back and left a message on his cell phone. I was called back a few minutes later by Wes. He told me that he would be out by the end of the week, Friday July 19th at the latest. No show! July 24th, left another message with Bill. On July 25th Wes and friend showed up unannounced (six weeks late). In ten minutes they completed the repair. Wes told me that the problem had been fixed (now where have I heard that before). I hate to think what they would have done had I not been home. Really, regardless of how well the work might be, should you really have to call and beg to have work you paid for completed? Even after all this, they did not do a good job on the bottom railing. It is bent in the middle and looks bad. But they won, I am not calling them back, again, and again, and again

Courteous, knowledgeable sales person, very knowledgeable Foreman who was efficient. They stuck with the job until it was complete and foreman even came out on a rainy day to try and figure out where the persistent leak was coming from. The clean up that couldn't be done in the fall because of the weather was completed in the spring and the company allowed us to withhold $700 until the clean up was done to our satisfaction.

I live out of town so my son was their immediate go-to person in the event of a problem. We had no problem with that arrangement and all went well. They were right on time. Did the work quickly and correctly. Consulted with my son when they had questions about how I wanted a certain thing done. The area on the house that was worked on left only one entrance/exit during the time the work was being done. With two small children living in the house, this made speed in completion of the job a necessity. They did this I was very pleased with the whole experience. I would recommend this company for this type of work again if asked.
Description of Work: Dug down along the foundation at rear of house, set drainage in place, waterproofed foundation in that same area, repaired foundation blocks, built new steps for side door and generally restored ground around that corner of house.

This was the second house I called Seagate in to do the waterproofing for. From estimate to clean up, the experience was very professional. Bryan was the salesman for this job, and was very nice and polite and answered all my questions. The crew showed up on time, knew what to do, and did it well. Those were some of the hardest working men I'd ever seen. The work was completed in the time frame that was estimated. All of the men were very polite. I appreciate the communication with the crew, they kept me informed. I like using this company because they do what they say they will do and they do it well. I will definitely use Seagate in the future and do recommend them to others.
Description of Work: inside - Seagate waterproofed the the entire inside perimeter of the basement floor. They removed about 12 inches of the floor from the wall, drilled weep holes in lower level block., installed a protective barrier, installed new pvc drain tile in new drainstone. Replaced concrete where removed. Installed I-beams to support the basement walls and replaced C-channels with I-beams. outside - They excavated 2 corners of the exterior basement wall to the footers. Repaired and sealed the cracks in the block. Back filled and re-graded. Completely cleaned up the basement and outside work areas.

The crew was on time and professional, they answered all of my questions and returned to complete the front steps to my satisfaction. The steps were a bit off from what I had pictured and they made it right without complaint or extra charges. The job took a little longer than I thought it would but was completed within the estimated time.
Description of Work: They waterproofed my basement and moved the sump pit, burried the pipe to the drain outside and sealed a few cracks in the foundation. They removed old concrete that was a hazzard at the back entrance as well as a slab accross the back of the house, replacing the slab at the door. They removed the front steps and leveled the sagging porch and made it solid and provided a 25 year warranty on that part of the job as well as a lifetime on the basement. They also poured new solid concrete steps in front of the house. Refinished the metal railing that was on the old set of steps and used it on the new ones.

There were a lot of times where we would call to set up an appointment, and nobody would show up. Sometimes, they would send different people and then do different things, and that didn't work. It ended up being something really basic, and I don't know why they didn't catch it.

REALLY BAD COMPANY. The actual workers did an OK job, but the supervisor didn't show up to oversee the job (Ken), and when my new dryer was broken by the workers, the salesperson and owner were extremely rude and nasty--immediately getting defensive without even listening to what the problem was. They began threatening me with a lien against my house when I stopped payment on the final check until we met to discuss this problem. In my 30-plus years of working with renovators, painters, contractors, etc., I have never, ever had an issue with anyone. I cannot believe Mr. Herman is still in business. This kind of behavior left me with the impression that the company is about to go out of business in that they couldn't wait a day or two to meet with me before going into a Mel-Gibson-like tirade to get a few lousy bucks.
Description of Work: Basement waterproofing in Old Orchard neighborhood, Toledo. WORST COMPANY EVER!! Sales person initially very nice; called back multiple times over months before I finally hired them. What was promised up front didn't happen--no one supervised the job, they didn't check the outside grading, eaves, etc.. They left my house wide open when I wasn't there, including the basement door, and so cement soot wafted throughout entire house. Even after I requested they block off doorways with a barrier to prevent soot blowing throughout my house, they didn't do it properly (instead, they used very lightweight plastic and left a one-foot gap at bottom, and so soot continued to cover everything inside my kitchen cabinets, a baby grand piano, ETC.--ultimately cost me another $960 to have another company come in to clean when they were done with the job.) During work, they broke a pipe and I had no water in the house. The worse part was that they moved a new $1,000 dryer and broke the door (by pulling it across the floor by its hinge), then refused to discuss it with me. When I stopped payment on the final check until I could discuss this damage with them, the owner came to my house and acted like Mel Gibson!--extremely rude and nasty, considering I was a cash-paying customer and offered to take him to my back for a final cash payment IF he would simply listen to my concern. They accused ME of breaking my own dryer door!! I would've been just fine if they had simply said, "Gee, we're sorry to hear that. How about if we come over and take a look at it?" Instead, they went into a tirade and treatedt me--the customer--like I was trying to rip them off. As an older woman living alone in a very nice neighborhood, I was totally taken aback. To this day (nearly 2 months after the job), the dryer door remains broken and I see no end in sight with getting it fixed. I paid them simply to get rid of them and never want to associate with them again. AS AN EXECUTIVE, I HAVE TO SAY THIS IS THE RUDEST, NASTIEST BUNCH OF PEOPLE (specifically, the SALESMAN, BRYAN ELDER, AND HIS DAD, THE COMPANY'S OWNER--MR. HERMAN) I HAVE EVER ENCOUNTERED ON A HOUSE JOB. Buyer, beware. If you're going to hire this group, get absolutely everything in writing AND be home every minute of the job.

Response from Seagate Roofing and Waterproofing
Statement from Tom Elder, Owner of Seagate Roofing & Foundation Services: Seagate Roofing & Foundation Services is a very reputable company and we take pride in servicing our customers in a professional and timely manner. Seagate has an A+ BBB rating and we would not be awarded that rating if our customers were not serviced properly. We have serviced over 30,000 customers and we would not be in business for 30 years if Seagate performed subpar work – we invite you to be the judge! The Dust Issue: The original call came the first day we were on the project and the member said we were getting concrete dust up the stairs and throughout the house. When I checked with the supervisor he informed me as well as the member that we had not begun to remove the floor yet and had not begun using jackhammers so we were confused by the comment. On day #2 our employees were very careful to block off the area to the house to keep the dust to a minimum especially due to the issue noted the previous day. At the completion of the job, our Service Manager Ken (who has been employed with Seagate over 25 years), went through the entire home with the member and she did not mention any dust concerns nor concrete residue. The Supervision Issue: Each crew that works on a project has a Crew Leader and that leader addresses all concerns that arise to Ken our Service Manager. The Crew Leader for this particular project is also a seasoned employee of 20 years. Our service Manager Ken, made it a point to visit this job on a daily basis as well and also made it a point to call the member every afternoon. Leaving House Wide Open When Homeowner Was Not At Home Issue: It is customary when waterproofing a basement, for our employees to remove the concrete floor in 5 gallon buckets two at a time. The employees then empty the buckets into a truck that is located on or near the property. The member stated that she did not want the door left open between the numerous trips that our employees had to make from basement to the truck area closing the door between trips was difficult but we did our best to accommodate her request. The Dryer Issue: I will state the dryer door was most likely damaged before we ever began this project. The member claims we moved her dryer using the door which we find difficult to agree with because it would be a physical challenge to move a dryer by the door. If we have to move a dryer, we lift the weight off the legs in order to move it. It is our belief the door was sprung before the job began. We learned the member has a bad knee and tends to support herself as needed, however, in hopes of making a bad situation better, Seagate reimbursed the member $200.00 so she could get the door repaired. Because at Seagate customer service is always extremely important.

We had a tear off and complete re-roof done on a commercial building and because of our past experience with Steve at Seagate we did not hesitate to contact them. The job was completed quickly and again Steve and the roofing crew went out of their way to ensure that the job was well done - they even removed a tree that was growing over our roof to prevent it from causing damage to our new roof. We would highly recommend Seagate Roofing.

We had a very good experience with Seagate Roofing and would highly recommend them. We have a flat roof, and other local roofing companies had come out to inspect and repair the roof due to the numerous leaks inside our building, but the repairs never held up until Seagate did the job. Since the application of the Astec coating system we have not experienced any leaks. The Vice President, Steve Naylor, was very knowledgeable and thoroughly explained the work that needed to be done. The crew that was sent to do the job were very professional and courteous – they did an excellent job as well as cleaning up after the job was complete. Not only did we receive a 10 year labor and material warranty, Steve even gave us a 10 year guarantee on the replacement of any ceiling tiles that would become damaged if the roof does leak again. I am happy to say that he has not had to replace any of them. As soon as the roof was complete they started the 2nd. job, which was replacing the vinyl siding on the upper area of our building. They completed this job without any problems and we were again, very satisfied with the work.

The work went really well. Doing concrete work and excavating gravel in the crawl is not easy work but they did it in stride. The price seemed what I expected. They started work and finished when they said they would. Quality of work seemed excellent and so far so good - no wetness or dampness since. We would use them again in the future.
Description of Work: Our house is about 6 years old and incorporates a full basement under the main floor and attached crawl foundation under the poolhouse portion of the house. The crawl portion experienced chronic wet spots that would puddle in hard rains. The crawl foundation did not have drain tile around the perimeter. Seagate quickly analyzed the problem and proposed complete solution. The retrofit essentially consisted of new drain tile network and sump inside the crawl, along with new 5' long concrete footer underneath existing lintel.
