Description of Work: My husband and I bought a house and when we got the inspection done, we were notified that there were high levels of radon in the basement that had to be mitigated. I found REST on Angie's List and called for a quote. James was extremely helpful and explained everything that would need to be done. We were moving to the Toledo area from out of the country, so unfortunately I could not be there the day that we scheduled the mitigation. However, the employee who worked on our house called me when he arrived and walked me through what he was installing and how it would work. He gave me advice on the best location for the mitigation system, but let me make the final decision. Since I've never dealt with radon before, I had a lot of questions. He answered all of them patiently and thoroughly. The service cost exactly what we were quoted. No surprises and no delays. Extremely professional company that I would use again in the future.

The installers arrived right at the scheduled time. They were very good about removing shoes, cleaning up after themselves, and explaining everything they did. The entire installation of a sump pump sealed cap, 4and quot; vent with an air pump, and the vent hose only took about 2 hours. They left a radon test to verify the mitigation worked, and called to schedule pickup a few days later. Overall, I liked that this company has been in business in the area for a while, is licensed, and has a very good warranty that they will perform additional services if the house tests high for radon in the future without charge.
Description of Work: During a prepurchase inspection my home tested very high for radon. I had searched around for a licensed radon mitigation company, and Radon Environmental Services was one of the few licensed in the Toledo area. I called for a quote and they didn't require an on-site inspection. Based on national averages, I thought the quote was fair, so I scheduled for them to perform radon mitigation on my new home.

Prior to moving into this new-to-us house, we had an active monitoring radon test performed and found that the house had an average reading of 5.0 picocuries/liter. The EPA recommends mitigation above 4.0 picocuries/liter, so we decided to install a radon mitigation system. Radon Environmental Services seems to be the only game in Toledo for radon mitigation, but the pricing appears to be in line with national averages. The crew (3 men) from RES was punctual. They were polite and professional in demeanor. The supervisor explained what they would be doing and solicited my opinion as to the preferred exterior venting location. It turned out that, due to block walls in the crawlspace that were there to support a fireplace, the original venting location (on the side and toward the rear between houses where there are no windows) could not be used. This meant that the venting had to go on the rear and not as close to the corner as the supervisor would have liked. However, the placement on the rear is still out of sight of the rear windows (from inside the house) and the exterior vent there isn't visible from the street, so I'm actually pretty happy with the location. The hole for the access to the drain tile system in the basement was in an out of the way place by the furnace. Installation took about 2 hours from start to end. The installers cleaned up after themselves completely. At completion, a long term test kit was hung in the basement. In about a week or so RES will call to pick up the kit and have it processed in order to verify decreased radon levels. Call me jaded, but I'll probably do the same thing myself just to really make sure. The blower fan has a 5 year manufacturer's warranty and Radon Environmental Services guarantees radon reduction for 10 years. Assuming that post-installation testing reveals an average radon level of below 4.0 picocuries/liter, I'll be a happy guy. I certainly have nothing bad to say about how the installation itself was performed.
Description of Work: Installed a radon mitigation system for my house, which is partial basement/partial crawlspace. This entailed placing and sealing a sump cover (with viewing window) over the sump pump crock, drilling a 4" hole through the basement floor to the drain tiles, placing a 4" PVC pipe across the crawlspace under a new vapor barrier, and connecting this all to a fan on the exterior to pump the air out above the eaves. The fan was wired into an existing electrical run in the basement.

Overall I am very happy with the mitigation system. Per my measurements of radon the system is doing it's job. The "exhaust" pipe that pushes radon outside of my home is discreetly placed behind a tree so can't see it from a block away; or from the front or back yard for that matter. I really appreciate the installer's consideration of my home appearance.
Description of Work: I had Radon Environmental Services of Toledo (REST) install a radon mitigation system on a home I purchased. Seller actually paid the bill. However I was the real customer of the product so I hold the warranty and did have access to the invoice and description of the work performed. The mitigation system in this case was the de-pressurization of the sump crock and drain tiles in the basement subfloor. Also, the crock needed to be sealed. Post installation results were included in the cost of the system as well as a warranty to keep my radon exposure under 4 pci/l for 10 years. I can't seem to get a hold of anyone by phone at this business. However, they do return messages and emails within two days. I've been in touch with them by email with some follow up questions and they have been so far happy to help me with pleasant and informative email replies.
