Everything went well. The job was even started sooner then expected & was completed right on time. The batroom was totally gutted. There was drywall work needed from the removal of the medicine cabinet & lights. They installed a new floor, toilet, sink, faucet, light fixture, mirror and painted. Everyone I came in contact with was very pleasant, professional and never left a mess.

I called this company and talked to Debbie who was very nice to get a estimate on getting an entry door installed. She said she would have to get a hold of her boss and call me back with a price. I have still not heard back from these people. It said on their website "no job too small". If they weren't interested in the job at least have the decency to tell me.

I do apologize. I did call the number back that I had down and was told it was the wrong number. I did not have a physical address, all I had was the town, so I could not send anyone by there. I wish you would have called back. I am sorry that I must have written the number down wrong. We would like to come to your home and give you a price if you would like to call the office back. Again I do apologize.

Handy Hubby lives up to the Angie's List reviews! Our first contact with John was impressive. He listened intently to what we wanted done (and there was quite a long list) and set up an appointment with us to go over the estimate before he left that day. He was punctual and went into great detail for all planned work. We signed the proposal and work began the following week. From roofers, to plumbers, electricians to master craftsman, all were extremely professional and earned every penny we spent. They began the summer with the team replacing our roof, installing insulation to the crawl space and attic and finishing the interior of our garage (which was quite a feat!). Our garage is so beautiful we show it off to everyone! Even though we couldn't appreciate the beauty of the insulation, we did appreciate the decreased cooling costs over the summer :) However, the best was yet to come. I can't explain how excited we are with our new bathroom! Bracey and Brent turned a small bedroom into one of the most beautiful bathrooms we've seen. And it's huge! I thought Bracey would lose patience with the intricate tile work but his methodical attention to detail turned into a spectacular work of art! Our old bathroom was a tiny 1970's nightmare, but it is now the most beautiful walk in closet this side of Beverly Hills! Throughout the entire experience, John was there to answer questions, add requested detail changes and work through any questions we had. From start to finish this team was professional and meticulous and never left a mess behind. It was truly the least stressful endeavor my husband and I have ever had with home improvement (and we've had many homes throughout the years). Thank you John, Bracey, Brent and all the others who worked magic in our old home. I can't wait for the spring so you can transform the outside! For all reading this review, you may find cheaper but you get what you pay for (we've learned our lesson over the years) and you will never match the craftsmanship this team brings.
Description of Work: Insulated crawl space and attic, replaced entire roof, finished garage interior, installed exhaust fan in hot tub room, remodeled a bedroom into a full bath, changed existing bath into a walk-in closet.

We love our new kitchen and sunroom. The renovations have completely transformed both rooms, and made us feel like we have a brand new house. We almost never leave these rooms now. Only downside is we feel we now need to renovate the rest of the house to bring it up to the level of the new renovations. John and his team did a fantastic job. John was a pleasure to work with throughout the process, starting from our first conversations during which we didnt really know exactly what we wanted. He was patient in allowing us to change our requests, and provided very detailed descriptions of exactly what would be done. John's estimates were fair and competitive with two other companies we had provide estimates. Throughout the process John was very good about keeping us updated with regard to which members of his team would be coming on which days, and very responsive when we had questions or wanted some small detail attended to. John employs several craftsmen who specialize in different aspects of the renovation, from painting, to woodworking, to electrical, and plumbing. We found all of them to be professional, polite, and hardworking. They all exhibited pride in doing their jobs well. -The only slight snag in the process was something that was out of Handy Hubby's control. The external company that was installing the quartz countertops (which are beautiful) accidentally scratched one of the new Kohler ceramic sinks. They had to order a new one, which was unfortunately back-ordered and thus took a good 4-6 weeks to finally arrive. I should point out, however, that John was very good about staying on top of this external company. And his office assistant was actually the one who eventually found a different source for the sink online, which sped up the process considerably. In the end, we are very happy with our renovations, and will not hesitate to use John and Handy Hubby again in the future.
Description of Work: Remodeled our kitchen and sunroom, rebuilt back steps to the house and relaid bricks on sidewalk leading to steps, diagnosed leak and replaced upstairs toilet. Within the kitchen, the major tasks were removing the existing wall between the kitchen and sunroom (and installing a weight-bearing beam across the ceiling), installing quartz countertops and a marble tile backsplash, repainting the existing cabinets (and manufacturing a couple of new cabinet doors to replace defective ones), refinishing the kitchen hardwood floor, painting the sunroom floor, and painting all walls and trim in both rooms. They also installed a new gas oven, two new sinks, a beautiful stainless steel range vent that hands from the ceiling over the new breakfast bar, new pulls on all the cabinets, installed new electrical outlet covers, put in new outlets and installed a flat-screen tv in the kitchen, and many, many other little details I am forgetting.

See above. I never heard from them so I used others to complete the tasks. All the work was completed as of this morning.
Description of Work: I met with a representative to review some small projects at a condo I was preparing for sale. I wanted a garbage disposal installed, a screen door fixed, a patio power-washed, and some ceiling tiles replaced. As soon as I handed him my $ 30 off coupon, I got a sense he had lost interest. I explained I needed the work done within a week or so. I was told I would get a call to schedule the work and provide a final estimate. Six days later, I have heard nothing. We ended up doing most of the work ourselves and had our plumber take care of the disposal installation. I will not call them again. Unfortunately, I had not heard good things from some friends about them but thought I would give them a chance. Very disappointing.

The company was very responsive to my call. Needed miscellaneous projects some of which were time sensitive due to exterior painters on the site. Got a speedy , reasonable quote and a promise to begin the job promptly. After the job was quoted I contated them for an additional projected that I had forgotten. John the owner reposed promptly to the new information. The work was performed by both a plumber and a carpenter. The plumbers work was exceptional. The carpenter did a B+ job only in that the wood base might have been flashed and was not and the clean up on the installations of the dead bolts left some saw dust and a slight mess. But given that my time demands were almost immediate and the job was done at high quality the over all experience was exceptional. Fair price, done well. They can be proud of their work.

I have used them twice before in the past and as usual they were very prompt and courteous. John is always a pleasure to deal with and the workers are always neat and polite. We decided to go with Handy Hubby because John and his team were professional, knowledgeable and courteous. We requested a quote to have a large portion of our basement finished (Waterproofing, Drywall, Air Ducts, Ceiling, Priming, trim, doors). John and his team gave us a detailed quote and worked with us to keep the cost within our budget. They answered all of our questions promptly and were genuinely interested in this project. The crew that worked on our basement were polite, professional and very respectful which impressed my wife and I (I work with contractors often and they are generally "rough around the edges"). The work was done within our time guidelines and we never felt that we had to push Handy Hubby to come and finish the job which is a huge plus. After the basement project was finished, John stopped by to see if we were satisfied with the work. There were a few small final touches which needed to be made and he made sure that everything was done to our satisfaction. Overall we were very happy with Handy Hubby and the work they performed from start to finish. We will definitely be using them again for any future remolding or house projects.

We decided to hire Handy Hubby because John Bothe seemed to really understand what we were looking for and listened to our plan from the beginning. As we were interviewing various contractors, we gave each of them a sheet with specific scope of work items to include in the proposal. John was the only one who specifically addressed those items in his written proposal. That indicated to us that he knew exactly what we wanted and expected to be completed. For example, because we were concerned about noise traveling to the upper levels of the house, he researched and provided information on the acoustic ceiling we specifically requested. He also put a good amount of time in helping us decide on the best lighting for the area. Barry, the main carpenter on the project, was wonderful as well. He offered many helpful suggestions as the project moved along and was very conscientious about his work. For example one of the many suggestions he gave was to use left over bead board for a back splash on the inside of the bar along the counter which added a very custom look. He paid a great deal of attention to detail and was also very neat and tidy. Barry custom built the maple/cherry bar top with added corbels and bead board which is the best feature of the whole project. This bar top makes the whole area special and unique. He is a very talented craftsman. All the contractors who worked on our project did a fine job. They were professional and thorough. We will enjoy our basement and added living space for many years to come. We are proud of the outcome and would highly recommend Handy Hubby for any home improvement project you have planned.
Description of Work: We recently had our (1100+ sf) basement refinished by Handy Hubby and are extremely happy with the end result. The space involved 2 large living areas, a full bathroom, and a 14x8 sf custom bar area including upper & lower cabinetry, a 10 ft bar top, & sink. Handy Hubby & contractors did all the framing, drywall installation,drain/plumbing work, cabinet installation, electrical & lighting, drop ceiling & insulation, finish trim work, heating ventilation, bar top fabrication, bathroom tub & fixtures installation. The cabinetry, countertops, and carpet were purchased from other providers and installed by their contractors so those expenses were add'l to the cost of the whole project. Also, to save on cost, we did all the painting throughout the basement.

I had seen their trucks around town and I found them on Angie's List. It seemed like they came highly recommended. But the guy to me was just very off-putting. He was not real professional looking. When he left, he was really abrupt and didn’t shake our hands. There was no follow-up phone call. It's been three and a half weeks now. We had decided that they weren't even worth calling back. As we were talking to him, he didn’t go into detail about what needed to be done and how they were going to do it. He was really hesitant about some of the work. It didn’t feel like he really wanted the job. He was prompt. They did return our phone call and set up an appointment with us. But his demeanor and personality overall; it didn’t seem like he wanted the job.
Description of Work: Handy Hubby came out to give us an estimate two remodel two bedrooms upstairs including putting up and finishing drywall. They also should have quoted putting up paneling and replacing a door for us. We never got a quote from them.

The overall performance was great. The Kitchen turned out great and the mud room is now functional. The whole process took two months to complete. This included a three week wait between measuring the counter top and cutting/installing the counter top. Handy Hubby did not install nor is responsible for the counter top. During the demolition the carpenter (Jack) discovered the kitchen floor was unlevel as a result levels of DIY basement renovations that damaged the structural integrity of the floor. Jack secured the floor and leveled the floor. We put 12" tile on the kitchen floor. At first I thought it was laminate since the grout work was nearly perfect. The walls in the Kitchen and Dinning room were crumbling plaster and replaced with drywall. The job was well done and now I am considering redoing the rest of the house. The cabinetry and back splash were ordered through Lowes and installed by Jack. Jack did a great job with both. He also has an ability to talk in non-technical terms to explain what he is doing and recommendations on the two dozen small decisions a homeowner needs make and have not thought of. Jack also built a custom railing and safety gate on our stairs. The previous railing was structural unsound and I nearly went through it, yet alone my 2 year old. John (Handy Hubby owner) helped me design a new railing with a safety gate. I know feel secure with a young child in the house. The new railing looks as if it is original to the house. I will use Handy Hubby again.
Description of Work: Handy Hubby did a complete remodel of my Kitchen and Mud Room in a 100+ year old house. This included re-supporting and leveling the floor, a complete electrical overhaul, and replacing broken plaster walls with drywall. In addition, they made a custom railing/safety gate on the stairs.

John came out to discuss our project in a helpful and straight forward manner. Once he had a sense of what we wanted done and in what style he offered us choices of cabinets, tile, backsplash, and granite countertop. There wasn't a wide array of choices in each style but we are quite happy with what we chose. John is very good about keeping the customer in the loop and letting us know who would be coming and for what. The work progressed nicely with the only delays being the wait time on the cabinets and counter as they were custom made at outside sources. John went out of his way to make himself available for any and all of our questions which could be numerous at times. When black mold was found on the subfloor under the refrigerator we agreed to replace it. John purchased spice racks for the pantry door after my wife worried about having space for our numerous items which was not in the contract. He quickly changed cabinets that proved to be too wide to clear our new refrigerator and quickly bought a new disposal when the original was junked by mistake. John also changed the garden window to include screens although it was an extra cost for him. Our kitchen has curved walls which added special cabinet and counter customizing challenges. John and his carpenter handled these with aplomb. All of the people who worked on the project were courteous, professional, and adept. No project is perfect but my wife and I are extremely pleased with how ours turned out.
Description of Work: We had our old kitchen completely remodeled including new cabinets, subfloor, floor, baseboards, granite counter, new sink, new lighting, new garden window, a new cabinet and counter was added including custom shelves. A water spot in the ceiling was fixed, new wall and ceiling finish applied, and the room was painted. Spice racks were added to a pantry door and we purchased a new stove and refrigerator which were installed by the contractor. Recessed LED lighting was added in the ceiling, under the cabinets, along with added outlets which were suggested by the electrician. A backsplash was installed above the countertop and in the bottom of the garden window. A new light fixture over the kitchen table, new faucet, and new cabinet pulls were purchased by us and installed by the electrician, plumber. and carpenter respectively.

My experience with Handy Hubby was great the first time and that is why I called them when I decided to have my basement remodeled. The detail that they put into their workmanship is exceptional. I knew I wanted my basement remodeled but I had no ideas on what to do. John arrived on time and had lots of wonderful ideas.I would recommend Handy Hubby to anyone that needs any project done, from large to small. I also will be calling them back in the future to remodel another bathroom.
Description of Work: I recently had my basement remodeled. Handy Hubby came into my basement and completely remodeled it. They built a custom bar that included installing a granite countertop. They also added a complete new bathroom which included a beautiful tiled shower and installed new tile on the floor. They tiled part of the basement floor and carpeted the rest. On one wall they built custom oak bookshelves and finished them to match the new base trim that was installed.

The crew that came out were good. The work crew did a good job in adverse, it was snowing and freezing, conditions. It took about a 5 weeks, which is my only concern. We needed someone to finish a "weekend bathroom project" we started but couldn't complete. John worked with us on the estimate and was accommodating to our time frame. John brought all of the elements together and ensured attention to detail while remaining on budget and on an established timeline. He employs a wide variety of tradesmen who are knowledgeable and personable. John excels at customer service and does a very good job of explaining all options to the customer. Salesman arrived on time and gave me pricing for the project. I signed contract that day. Carpenter came in and started work the following week, Barry was very precise and exact with all details. My home is an older home and it is not square, but you would not be able to tell that with the precision of his work. After all beadboard and trim was installed the painters arrived and started their work, they were very clean and neat. The painters went above and beyond to assure that all paint blended with the older paint. The project was completed in a timely manner and looks great. I would and have recommended them for any projects and I would/will hire them again.

I have drawn and redrawn many sketches over the years. 2012 was going to be the year to put all my planning into action. I am an advanced do it yourselfer, but do not have the skills to take on a project of this magnitude. I began by visiting the Toledo House and Home show. I was in search of a company that I would feel comfortable sharing my vision with. I found a number of house builders, who would have built my addition. Their boothes displayed with magnificent photos of elaborate houses with extravagant exteriors and interiors. Their reputations and reviews were well known and aplenty. Their projects, overwhelming and pricing astronomical to me. Then I saw a unique display of business cards laid on the floor, which drew me to the Handy Hubby booth. They had binders full of personal sized photos showing an array of different types of projects. Where as the house builders show these huge houses , John's showed the amazing transformations of existing structures of his clients. Listening to John describe the different projects, I heard the excitement, passion and joy he has for his craft. I set up an estimate appointment. The appointment day arrived. John was prompt, prepared, and professional. He took the time to listen to all of my ideas, looked at my sketches and kindly criticized and adjusted some of them. At John's suggestion, we agreed on applying recycled portions of the existing house to the addition, saving us some money. We discussed how much of a role I would be taking in the finishing of the interior.I felt no pressure to have John perform any of the interior project. The decisions made, he took measurements, made calculations and presented his estimate in writing in a timely fashion. Finances were finalized and the project began. John's crews (especially Kevin and Jeremy) were GREAT! They treated our project like it was their own. Their work ethic was astounding. The attention to safety and minute details amazing and very much appreciated. At the time of framing, temperatures were in the 100's, but they still showed up and put in full days. If there was a question about the type of material used or the reasoning behind a certain application, the time was taken for a complete explanation.(sometimes twice.) While I did not have the luxury to be on site daily while the crews were at my home, having an immediate communication with John was sometimes crucial and accommodated. Kevin ensured each day that my home, the materials and any construction tools were secure for the over night or weekend. After framing was completed, the drywallers entered to drywall the wall and ceiling. They were quick and efficient. the electricians were last to arrive, placing the appropriate amount of boxes according to city codes. The crews were polite, personable and trustworthy. John or his crew took care of obtaining all of the pertinent permits associated with our addition, relieving me of the time consuming task. Inspectors were scheduled by the crews and escorted by them at time of inspections. At the time the finishing touches were being done, a continuing comment surfaced from family, friends and neighbors: "It looks like it's always been there." I believe that to be a high compliment to the crews that worked on our addition. I would recommend Handy Hubby for ANY project, large or small.

Handy Hubby gave me a quote. They have not come back. The guy that came out was kind of creepy. Handy Hubby was looking at the basement. He was just weird, he just kept looking at me, and I am like what. He was not professional. He was on time. He was not being flexible with his ideas.

We apologize for the delayed response. We also like to apologize for your experience. When given the quote, did you inform the gentlemen if you would like to move forward with the job? We are happy to hear we made it on time to your appointment and that we were able to give you an estimate.

This company is amazing! We were unsure of exactly what we wanted and were open for suggestions from the start. The owner came out to our house and 'listened' to us about our likes and dislikes. The following week he returned with samples of what he thought would interest us and everything was perfect! It was like he thought it all up in his head and when he came back with samples and ideas to show us, he had read our minds! We were very pleased with what he had put together to present to us. His suggestions, from the start, were exactly what we had pictured in our heads but just didn't know how to put the puzzle pieces together ourselves! He gave us two quotes, one with custom made cabinitry and another without. He gave us a date that they would start and an estimated time of how long until completion. (we only have one bathroom so this was extremely important to us).The workers were always prompt, precise, meticulous and thorough, not to mention extremely professional! Our bathroom was hideous before they started! I wouldn't invite anyone over due to extreme embarassment! Our house was built in the '30's. It's an older farm house so the bathroom was small and not very practical. It looks absolutely beautiful now and we are so proud and pleased with the quality from this company! We can't wait to start having friends and family over for parties/dinners to show off our new bathroom!
Description of Work: We had a total makeover done on our bathroom. They totally gutted the old bathroom by removing the bathtub, sink, walls and flooring. They also re-routed the heating/ac ductwork from the center of the wall to the floor under the window, installed ceramic tile on the floor and walls, hung and finished drywall-including a knock down ceiling, primed and painted the ceiling and walls, custom made cabinets and wall mirror, put in electrical outlets and hung new lighting as well as an exhaust fan/light above the tub/shower.
