It went remarkably well. The job was finished in less than the estimated time. At the end, when there were still a few little things to take care of, they were done promptly. My previous experience has been that the final items can become a real hassle so I greatly appreciated how well that was done. There were very few problems, and those that did occur (no more than to be expected in a job like this) were dealt with promptly. All the people who worked at the house were very polite and respectful. You could tell that they were trying to minimize the hassle to us. Debbie, in the office, was in touch constantly about what was scheduled, any problems, and so on. John was very helpful from the beginning. I had some ideas about how I wanted to reconfigure the space which didn't work for structural reasons, but he had suggestions, and was fine with it when I did change my mind about something. He also was mindful of our budget, which again, i something that I have been aware does not always occur when people are having remodeling done. We will almost certainly have work done by them in the future.
Description of Work: Remodeled kitchen/family room including removal of existing paneling and ceiling in family room, kitchen cabinets, etc. Relocated door from garage into kitchen. New drywall, flooring, cabinets, lighting, electrical., plumbing as needed, paint, and stain.

I needed remodeling of my bathroom badly. Because Handy Hubby was so highly recommended on Angie's List, I just had them look it over. The owner came by a couple of times as I tried to decide what to do. He was very responsive and had a good memory of what we discussed. I think the cost was high, but again, I did not comparative shop. He guided me a bit and so did the receptionist manning the phones. Looking back, every decision I made--with their help--was a good one. The bathroom looks terrific, and I'm really pleased. My only complaint (and it's minor) was that the start date was later than I expected and it took 2 1/2 weeks. The owner, John, said that it would be about that long, so I was prepared. But it seemed unnecessary to the work needing to be done. There was more down-time without a full bathroom (I had to shower at the gym) than seemed necessary. I think this is a good company, and I am VERY confident that they did quality work.

Initially when we signed the contract we were told they could start in December however, the job ended up being pushed to February. Some part of the work could have been done before that February date but, was not. There was an immediate delay because of approval on the beam. In December we were told we had to special order a patio door that would fit our spacial concerns surrounding the door. Which we did, and spent a lot of money on the door. We could have purchased the same door at Home Depot for 1/3 of the price and not special ordered. We did not find out until the door was installed that it was a regular door we had waited so long for. It was claimed a communication error. Which would have been fine if that had been the only communication error. the first few weeks we also had to deal with taking workers from our job to finish up another job. As the weeks went on the plumber reversed the hot/cold and didn't check his work. the hardwood flooring has numerous large gaps, which is not uncommon for hardwood flooring however, some gaps are quite large i could easily insert a key into with enough room to move it easily. The underside of the island had numerous gaps in it as well and the contractor filled the holes with silicone instead of grout. we caught the painter filling holes in the walls with trim putty and painting over it, they actually sent him back to finish our job after that, he did apologize though. He left numerous trim stain drips down the side of the stove and the side of the cabinets. They did not cover up the stove the first week leaving sawdust throughout a 6 month old stove, we had to make them take it apart and clean it. There were several dings made in my stainless steel refrigerator which was moved numerous times. After the discovery of the patio door John came and argued with us. Mind you my profession is a project manager and we own our own company, If we ever provided that level of customer service we would not be in business very long. The reason I gave punctuality a C was because most of the workers were on time every day. There were 2 guys on the team that were great( 1-general, 1-electrical). The rest, not so much, and not a great project manager.
Description of Work: Opened up kitchen by removing a wall and installing a beam, moving existing cabinets, creating island of purchased cabinets, moved electrical, installed hardwood floors, drywall repairs, installed patio door, installed front door.

The glass: Half empty of half full? The question on a large and complicated job that involves many skilled installers should not be judged in absolute terms like perfection. In over 20 years experience, seldom, if ever, is there a job involving humans where there is not a glitch, or an unexpected problem that comes up. So, it is not whether a change in plans arises, it is how it is dealt with. And, ultimately is the project brought to finish achieving the function and physical appeal that was originally desired? At the end of the job the homeowner said, "well. there were a few hiccups; but overall the job looks beautiful." There was a major improvement and transformation from before to after. Two rooms became on large kitchen/dining room. Nearly every aspect and discipline in remodeling was addressed from structure, to carpentry, electric, drywall, tile, cabinetry, painting, finish work, etc. etc. Nothing was mentioned about the significant cost (about $3000-$4000) that the homeowners saved when contractor hired a structural engineer to avoid needing to tear up a finished basement to pour new concrete piers for the needed I-beam. Nothing was mentioned about the workers needing to work around the on/off homeowner's schedules, and yet being on the job everyday that it was possible to be there over many weeks. Nothing was said about the numerous freebee's given to the customer along the way. If the homeowners were unhappy, why did they ask for more work in addition to the original scope of work? There is something to be said about fairness, the overall conscientious effort to provide a professional service, and real and substantial value rendered to the home. In those things we did well.

Handy Hubby would like to apologize to you for our lack of response regarding the work and or information you were inquiring about. Although not an excuse, Handy Hubby was having some interoffice personnel issues at the time. Communication, at the time, was not the best, to say the least. It is only now that we are seeing what has been done to our image as well as the hurtful feelings that were created with our customers due to this lack of communication. Handy Hubby has changed personnel and is committed to responding to all inquiries in a professional and timely manner. Thank you for your comments. They will help us in the long run to make sure this does not happen again. We would love the opportunity to talk to you in person and invite you to give us a call to discuss.

A gentlemen from Handy Hubby arrived at our home approximately three weeks before the work was actually completed and spoke with us to determine what we wanted done--ours being a unusual request to make a set of steps over the existing steps for our dog. We also had him look at our gazebo that was dropping at one end due to a decaying tree stump. The information was completed and within a few days he returned to show us his plan for building steps and repairing the gazebo. On September 23rd the work was completed and everything turned out better than I expected. The gazebo was repaired and leveled and our puppy steps were completed and successful! Both of the gentlemen were extremely polite and very professional. Upon leaving the site all was cleaned and left in excellent shape. I will recommend Handy Hubby to my friends.

I called Handy Hubby on Thursday afternoon. We had a terrible leak at the hot water tab going into the washing machine. We could not get the tab to stop turning...it must have been stripped. This is an old house, so we were not surprised. Handy Hubby has Rapid Response take care of small jobs. I was told that Carmine would be able to arrive Friday morning between 11:00-12:00. Friday morning at 10:30 Carmine arrived...early...which was great. He fixed the leak and also attached a new hose that we had to the washing machine. Carmine was friendly, thorough and efficient.

It took about 3 weeks from start to end. This contractor handled all the permit work, designing of the project and getting inspections and approvals by the county inspector. There were approximately $11000 more in total expenses than what was predicted initially (approx 40%), partially because of rock in the ground and also to build a wooden deck to fix the steep slop in the floor. Overall good workmanship and would recommend to others. Thank Handy Hubbey!

Handy Hubby responded right away when I made the purchase. He came to the house once a week, asking what else I wanted for my bathroom. I went out and bought a vanity, counter, two sinks, faucets for 2 sinks, faucets for shower, lights for over the mirrors, mirrors and ornamental trim to use in tiling. He finally brought a contract for me and he wanted me to pay him an additional $3800 on top of the original agreement of $4749 that I had already paid him. I knew the "big deal" was a good deal. And I knew I would be charged extra for a heated floor, but I was completely shocked at how much more he wanted after I had purchased SO much myself. I felt like the deal was a gimmick and he listed every little thing as additional money. The other part of this was, I bought the deal at the end of January and he was going to work me in in May. I decided I wanted out of the deal.

The majority of bad reviews for Handy Hubby have come from customers for whom we have not done ANY WORK. "Big Deal" was purchased in February. We immediately set an appointment with homeowner. John met with this customer and she was undecided about what she wanted. So there was an agreement that we would take our time until the homeowner was completely satisfied with her choices. John returned to customer's home several times thereafter, and each time the homeowner had changed her mind or added to the scope of work (i.e. beyond specifications called for in "BIG DEAL"). Had the homeowner stayed with the particular specifications of the "Big Deal" there would have been no increase in cost and job would have been scheduled to start within two weeks. Both price for job and schedule to start job changed relative to the increase of work (i.e. homeowner wanted a heated floor that requires a dedicated circuit and a thermostat as well as numerous other things) and, our particular schedule at the time the homeowner signed the contract. . This is a busy time of year for reputable contractors, as it is for Handy Hubby. Our first priority is to make sure each customer is satisfied with the choices they have made and then to schedule the work agreed upon at a mutually convenient time.

Meeting was awkward. Did not have confidence in the work that would be performed. Plans drawn up did not include all rooms in basement. Upon second meeting he came in and threw down a handful of carpet squares as though we had already made a decision to contract with him. Once we were hesitant he scrawled down a quote on the back of a paper. No numbers to back the quote up. He tried to leave without even giving us the plans that we paid for (even though they were poorly done.)

The Handy Hubby met and exceeded all my expectations. John and his assistant Debbie were a pleasure to work with from start to finish. John and I met at my house within 3 days of my initial contact, and he had a quote ready for me within 5 days. His firm quote came in half of an estimated bid another contractor gave me. The job started within a month of my acceptance (it could have been sooner, but my schedule didn't permit that). John's crew showed up on time the scheduled start day, and they could not have been more courteous, nice, professional, trustworthy and most of all, their work was exemplary. I felt so comfortable that I gave them a key to come and go as they needed, and they were here alone everyday. Each morning they put runners down to protect the floors, removed them each night and cleaned up at the end of each workday. They let me know exactly what they would be doing that day, and asked me if I had any questions or input. John estimated 2 weeks for the job to be completed, and it was 2 weeks to the day. I will use the Handy Hubby again for future projects, and I definitely will recommend them to friends and family.
Description of Work: Remodeled master bathroom. Removed jacuzzi tub, shower, 2 soffits and old floor. Installed new tile floor, to the ceiling tiled walk-in shower with shower heads on each end, 2 body sprays on each end, tiled shower bench, 3 L.E.D. I added Handy Hubby to my list of contractors because I have seen their vans in my area many times so I thought that we would give their services a try. I had four different contractors coming over to give quotes on a renovation project we were planning on doing that involved the instillation of a new exterior door, paneling a stair well in our basement, putting in new drywall, hanging trim and installing new interior doors in three rooms upstairs. The man showed up on time looking like he had just rolled out of bed, he was very unprofessional looking and his overall demeanor made me feel uncomfortable. He was very negative about the work that needed to be done and made it seem like it was going to be more trouble than it was worth for them to bother. In the end the company never contacted us back with a quote and never came out and said that they would prefer not to take the job. Based on the initial visit from the contractor we also did not contact them again to find out when they were planning on sending the quote.

John and his crew at Handy Hubby did an outstanding job. After getting several quotes from other contractors; Handy Hubby was the company I chose. The reason being that John communicated well and understood what I was looking for. While the description of installing new appliances does not sound like a big deal; it was. They had to customize the kitchen cabinetry to fit new appliances (i.e. Retrofit today's technology into a home built in the 1960's). They installed new plumbing for dishwasher and disposal. Ran water lines for dishwasher and disposal. Ran new electrical wiring and installed circuits to all three new appliances with switches and outlets, bringing everything up to code. When the drain developed a pesky leak, the follow up service was prompt and effective. The work done was to our 100% satisfaction. Anymore projects that our home needs, Handy Hubby will be the first people we call.

This was an Angie's Deal for a bathroom remodel drawings. They were very informative and explained different aspects of the potential work very well so I wish this review was for that part because it was a very pleasant experience talking through all the aspects of the redesign. |However, the actual product that was being delivered for this service was the professional drawings for the remodel so I must focus on thy piece for this review. Therefore if we were o move forward with the work we would surely need new drawings. |It is really to bad because the gentleman we spoke with was very friendly and informative, but at the end of the day we really don't have the product we purchased.

It went extremely well. John the project manager had scheduled the work on the master bath in November and the work in the kids bath to begin in January, because of the holidays. Jack, the "professional" handyman did an excellent job. He was on time, took direction well, listened when I wanted to make changes, he cleaned up nightly, and was very "clean" while working. He did a great job tearing out and re-tiling both baths. I not only appreciated and liked Jack, my two children liked him. The puppy and cat took to him instantly. My master bath was started in early November, and finished in about 2 1/2-3 weeks. Since it finished early, Jack was able to start on the kid's bathroom around December 6th, and finished December 16, well before Christmas. When I had questions, Debbie, the office manager was able to get answers quickly and the project remained on schedule. My kids and I will actually "miss" Jack's 8:30 am morning arrival. We just "loved, loved, loved" " him and will missed him. He became part of our family for those two months. He even watched our puppy for an hour or so when no one could be here. Near the end of construction, Chris, the electrician helped Jack with a few add-on projects, and was also a pet person. He did an excellent job installing my masterbath fireplace and some kitchen lights and a medicine cabinet in my half bath downstairs (an add-on project.) I could go on and on......I would definetly have these two guys return in the spring to do a few more "projects."
Description of Work: Gutted our master bath and the kids bathroom. Added to the master bath, new granite tile with an accent border in the shower, along with a new tempered glass shower door, new cabinets and tile border, granite tile countertop, new vessel sinks and faucets, toilet, and limestone floor. Also, installed an in-wall electric fireplace to replace the old in-wall standard electric heater. Replaced the old flourcent lighting and dry-walled the soffet to accomadate the new lighting. In the kid's bath, did the same things as above, plus added a ceiling/light fixture above the bath tub, replacing only a light fixture. They also added a new ceiling fan/light and medicine cabinet to the half bath downstairs. The lighting in the half bath was two florcent blubs on each side of the medicine cabinet. In the kitchen, we had the old "90s flourent ceiling lighting replaced with accent lighting.
