They were very, very expensive. I had to buy the supplies. I would never hire them again to do anything. Ii was a waste of my money because the post didn't stay placed. I gave them another chance, but the guy stalked me. He was at my bedroom window knocking on it. He followed me to the gas station and to the grocery store. I had to call the police. They get F for everything.

We have never done any work for this customer. There is another company that a few people have confused us with. Ever since this report came out we have worked with Angies List, who has tried contacting this person via email and leaving messages with no response, and we have made many attempts to contact this person with no response. All of the men that work for us are very polite and would never do anything like this.

I found them through an ad. We won't use them ever again. My husband thought it was an awful lot of money for the job he did. He wanted to use the old mounting instead of the new one. He wanted to take shortcuts all over the place. The job turned out right, but my husband had to stay up there with him. When you do a new job, you need the materials that came with the kit. He didn't want to do that because it took more time. He wanted to slap it over the old mounting.

Prompt and high quality work at a reasonable price. Tended to assume minimal design details and lower-cost materials (windows, floors etc.) and needed some prompting to go a bit upscale, but results were fine. Flexible to design tweaks as issues appeared during work. Would recommend, but be sure to have a clear idea of what you want.

The man that came for the estimate was late, appeared disheveled like he just got out of bed, wearing sandals, driving a fancy car. He didn't look like he had ever done any kind of home repairs or remodeling in his life. As I showed him the things that I was interested in having fixed he repeatedly remarked "well that work was done by someone else, we wouldn't be comfortable messing with that". Well of course, the whole house was built by someone else! What a ridiculous thing to say! Then after ignoring everything I was trying to show him he gives me a folder to look through showing photos of kitchen and bathroom remodels that they had done and this isn't even what I was looking to have done! It's like asking for a hamburger and someone saying sure we make those but try our soup. A waster of time. I would never call them again for anything and didn't even request an estimate!
Description of Work: I did not choose this company to do my work.

John takes care of all of the necessary permits and formalities and the demo begins. The crews and equipment arrive the porch and slab come down and the digging begins. The only "Fly in the Ointment" was provided my Mother Nature and the rain begins. But this too passed. We did encounter sone buried surprises, such a sub foundation about 3 feet down of unknown origin that was unearthed. Got the inspector involved, got the OK to proceed, poured the foundation. Some note worthy information about the addition. This project involved multi level floor systems, as well as multi roofing systems that were very brilliantly engineered and executed. The building went on without a hitch. I was continuously impressed with the attention to detail the builders demonstrated, as well as, the exceptional quality that was built in. The material use by the builders was not basic construction grade, but better grade material than they could have used. The craftsmanship was superb and the job was finished, as agreed. The job came in on budget as quoted. We did make some mutually beneficial changes to the project which resulted in upgrades for me and Handy Hubby still came in on budget. Overall, I have been delighted with the work Handy Hubby did for us, I would not hesitate to use him again, and would (and have) recommend them to others for their building project. One additional thing, I am retired, I was on site start to finish so I observed every step of the process. It was very educational and enjoyable for me.
Description of Work: I have a 100 plus year old home that had a screened in back porch with multi level floor systems that I wanted to build in to a kitchen and dining room addition. I had contacted several local contractors and, for the most part, their estimating process amounted to a dollar amount that they believe they could do it for. I'm sorry I'm looking for a bit more detail. We went to the Home Show last spring where we meet John Bothe, The Handy Hubby. We made an appointment for him to check out the job. He came, brought an additional professional with him, they made took measurements, looked at the electricals, structural needs and took the time to explain to me what they were doing. This was my first experience with contractors, so I really appreciated that. John came back in a few days with a complete estimate and a detailed plan that explained exactly what he would do, how it was to be accomplished, the material that would be used, the time it would take and the amount of the project. Just what I was looking for, "a detailed PLAN", how refreshing!!! We talked a length about the job , he demonstrated his knowledge and experience by explaining exactly how things would proceed. I checked his references, felt very comfortable with John and signed the deal.

Arrived on time on first day. Began demo. Removal was straight forward and no issues. Adjustment of plumbing went fine. Upon installing the tub they had trouble getting it into position. They took a recipricating saw to one of the 2x4 studs in the way and removed some on the side to get the tub down. Installation of the surround also was straightforward. They completed the install in one day. They returned the next day to complete the drywall compound. Issue no. 1) When placing the tub the new tub did not completely fill the space left by the previous tub. There was a One (1) inch gap between the tub and the stone flooring. We had not planned on changing the flooring. They recommended putting mortar compound down to fill the gap. We went along with this but were unhappy that initial measurements did not bring this to light prior to being on the spot. Issue No 2.) The mortar they placed was not smooth and looked bad. It also cracked within a week and looked worse. We received only a $50 credit because of this. We ended up ripping out the stone floor and replacing it because of the disconnect between the flooring and the tub looked so bad it had to be replaced. Issue No 3) The tub and shower were not used until Thanksgiving since it is the guest BR. One of our guest discovered the plumbing was not secured in the wall. If you pulled out on the handle to turn the shower on it would come out about 1 to 1 1/2 inches. Issue No 4) I found that the saw used to remove some of the 2x4 to get the tub in had went through the wall into the room next to the BR. It was behind a bookcase and was not found till weeks later. Issue No 3 and 4 I called after Thanksgiving and spoke in regards to having it fixed. They came within the next week. They tightened the plumbing and drywalled the bedroom. They returned later to prime and paint the bedroom. Issue No 5) Using the tub after the plumbing had been tightened the water was running along the inside of the facuet and out the bottom towards the tub surround. They also left a 1/8" gap between the facuet and the wall and filled it in with silicone. (The facuet was not a screw on facuet but was attached using an allen wrench underneath.) It was another week to get this fixed. Took some convincing that it wasn't supposed to do that. Issue No 6) After the holidays we noticed a crack in the tub surround. It was located on one of the shelves in a corner. I called after the first of the year, spoke to the secretary and left a specific message to have the owner call me to discuss next steps on how to address this. I have never heard from them again. We went through the manufacture to get the crack repaired. The inspector stated it was due to installation methods that caused the crack. However, when contacting the manufacture again with the inspector the manufacture decided to pay to have it repaired out of good faith. Otherwise I would still be trying to contact Handy Hubby to pay for the repair. Although the installation went smoothly, due to the issues stated above we will not be hiring Handy Hubby again.
Description of Work: Remove existing one piece tub/shower unit and tub/shower fixtures. Adjust plumbing for new tub/shower. Install new tub and tub surround. Install new tub/shower fixtures. Fill in nail flange with drywall compound. Haul away job related debris and pay dump fees. The cost listed included the cost of the tub. Labor: $1450 Tub: $469 Credit: $50 Total: $1869

I had used Handy Hubby twice in the past. Once they put on a new roof. Another time, they built me a 2 1/2 car garage. I enjoyed working with them each time, and asked them to make recommendations on the restoration. I had to move out of my house while the work was being done, which I had planned for. The job took two weeks longer than we originally planned, but there were several additions to what we originally planned as well. Handy Hubby got the work done as agreed, and once again, they do very nice work, and I am well satisfied. They completely changed my house, and made it wonderful to live in.
Description of Work: I had a complete restoration of my house. My kitchen was remodeled; my bathroom; a new bathroom was created out of a large closet; drywall repairs and the entire interior house was repainted. All floors were resurfaced: a cherry hardwood floor, a hickory hardwood floor, a cork floor, 3 bedrooms with new carpet, and ceramic tiles in each of the two bathrooms. All new solid wood doors changed out. A new custom entertainment center, and a beautiful fireplace surround installed.

My husband normally would do all this work himself but was unable to at this time due to recent surgery. This was a trial project and we are going to have Handy Hubby do additional work now.
Description of Work: This project involved moving furniture out of a master bedroom and painting the entire room both ceiling and walls. The second part of the project was to paint a two room bath and to replace the countertop, sinks and plumbing. John arrived at scheduled time to make an assessment and give us an estimate. once we decided to proceed with his company he continued to stop by even though he had other workers here painting and doing counter tops. The guys who came in were all courteous and did a good job with the painting. They were willing to do some moving of heavy furniture.

The work was done, okay. The owner of Handy Hubby came and gave us an estimate on the work, then he contracted out the service, but he would check-in, I wish I would have known ahead of time that he was not the person actually doing the work. The finished floor in the bathroom was slightly unlevel, he would have ripped it out and fixed it, but we were tired of having contractors in the house. So the owner provided a credit on the bill, with the understanding that if we would have him repair the floor, we pay back the credit. I thought this was fair. The light fixture in the kitchen was replaced and the ceiling repaired, the work was done well, ditto with the door bell replacement.
Description of Work: We used Handy Hubby to replace the floor, do some plumbing, in a half bath; replace light fixture in the kitchen; and replace the front door bell.

Our company never visited this gentleman's home. We do have potential customers call in and want a price over the phone and at that time they are told that we really need to see the job before we quote anything over the phone. We are sure this is one that could have been quoted over the phone sight unseen and our price would be just a guess. If a customer insists on a price over the phone they are given one that may be higher and they are told that is just an estimate for worse case and that if we was to come out and look at it may be lower.

I got an estimate last fall for fixing my gutters, which was good. They wanted to wait until spring because it was late fall, so I agreed. Spring came, I called back. First they said it was too rainy, which it was. The receptionist was so nice every time, but she would say, "I will let(name) know" but then no one would call me back. Then I would call again after waiting a week or several weeks. Same response. I was desperate. I had water coming in my house whenever it would rain hard. This went on for a couple months. Finally, I called them back and said that I would have someone else do it. I found Gary Cross Eavestrough Co. on Angie's list and in two days he and his son did a quick job at a great cost

I began my first call to Handy Hubby on a Monday and the receptionist said they were very busy but she would return my call & speak to me in detail about what I needed. I waited a full day for a return call. On Tuesday I called the gal back & explained to her that I was under a time table, that I had to have the work done by a specific date due to the nature of the special funding I was granted to have the work completed, and that I had a week to get an electrician out to help me. I have had no-show appointments with other electricians going on for three weeks now. Apparently a lot of companies do not like to o small jobs. She assured me they can do any sized job and they would be happy to help. By Thursday I was angry, but I politely called them back, was put on hold for so long I that hung up & called back again. Again the receptionist was very nice, and said the electrician who does the kind of work I need would call me back by the end of the day. I called again Friday, and she said she would check with the particular person who handles in home electrical. Well, I have not yet heard from them and it has been a full week since my first call. I have moved down the list to a new company who will be out within 24 hours.
Description of Work: I called this company almost daily for a week. I needed a dedicated electrical line run to my kiln. They promised they do any size job, They were very nice on the phone, promised to get someone to call me to schedule an estimate and they never called me back. I explained that I just need a dedicated breaker running a 110 outlet to an easily located spot approximately 12 feet away from the breaker box. Not a real big deal and I would do the work myself, but I want it done by a certified professional, as a kiln, even running 110, can pull a lot of energy when running long periods.

Our electrician called and she did not return his call, he left 2 messages for her. When she called I stated that our electrician was very busy on a job the day that she called and she stated to me that the other electricians she called would not call her back and that she needed this job done within 2 days and it was to be paid by grant money and that we would have to wait for some time to receive our money from the grant funding program. When the electrician did get to speak to her she stated that she already had someone doing the work.

I was pretty much satisfied with them. The person was prompt. The prices were reasonable. I think although he was clean and didn't leave a big mess; he still left a little bit of mess of his shoe print. The work was well done. He came at the appointed time. The price was comparable.

Great job, I would call HandyHubby again.
Description of Work: I called HandyHubby asking for a price to install a Bathroom Vent Fan. They had an electrician call me promptly, he went and looked at the job that needed to be done and I hired him. We worked out a date that he could do the work, he set a time and was there right on time. When he went up into the attic to look at wiring, he also spoke to me about the benefits of adding more installation to save on winter heating costs. I appreciated his input because I would not be up in the attic to look around. I would most definitely use HandyHubby again.
