Services we don't offer
We do not offer installation of concrete or cement structures. We can remove them, but sub out the concrete finishing.
When we first bought our house we had to remove 13 dead ash trees in the backyard. Once they were removed there may have been some debris left in the gutters that we couldn't see on the backside of the house. It appears the weight bearing on the gutters caused them to start to detach and it just got worse when I noticed it right before a few days worth of rain pouring in. We also lost some of the edge siding at the peak of our house on the side during another wind storm but the edge siding was intact. I didn't have a ladder tall enough so I called Jacob's ladder after finding him on Angie's List with great reviews. I believe I spoke with Meghan who setup the service call after I explained the situation. Jacob showed up on time and was very nice and professional. He had the equipment he needed to access the issue locations so he just performed the service at that time and was done in about 45 minutes. He reattached the edge siding at the peak and replaced the failing nails in the gutters with screws. He also made his way around the entire house to make sure the other gutters were properly attached. He was a great handyman to work with and comes highly recommended by us.
Description of Work: Repair gutter that was coming off the second story on the backside of home and some of the roof edge-flashing/siding had detached during some bad wind storms.

As someone with experience in rough/finished carpentry, I was very apprehensive in having anyone do something I am used to doing myself. Due to my work, I did not have the time to tackle this particular project. I met with Jacob (very nice young man) who feels strongly in customer satisfaction being his number one priority. After covering the project layout, another meeting was set up with Bob (his foreman). I have to say it was Bob who convinced me to use Jacobs Ladder for this project. He took the time to walk through the project (posts, rafters, what they would tear out and re-build, and the material that would be used). I was off for a few days while Bob and Jeff were working on this project, and what I saw made me very comfortable in their ability not only as builders, but someone who actually cared how the project turned out, and the small things that made this not just "another job". Again, I want to thank Jacob, and his crew for an addition that I absolutely love, and will enjoy for many years to come......
Description of Work: I wanted a roof addition added to the rear of my home, covering approximately 3/4 of an existing deck. I recieved 3 estimates. Jacobs Ladder was not the lowest, but after careful consideration (and a lot of trust), I felt confident that they would give me what I was looking for in workmanship, quality, material, and professionalism (it took someone like Bob to understand my "vision" and know exactly what I was looking for).

The seal below one part of my double kitchen sink was cracked. This was probably the original cast iron sink installed in the house when it was built in the 1950's. I decided it was time to change the sink and add a disposal as long as work had to be done there. Jacob came with the original call and even gave me a verbal estimate at that time for the work to be done, which I appreciated. He had done a minor plumbing job for me once before, so I felt secure with using his services this time. Because the seal was not actively leaking, I decided to wait until the new sink, etc., could be installed. One minor negative I had is I had asked for a one day's notice before they came so I could have the access to the crawl space empty--they needed to get into it to add the electrical for the disposal. I was out of town when they called and asked to come that afternoon. Fortunately, my son was here, so it worked out. When I arrived back home that evening, I had a lovely new stainless steel sink installed. The workmen had to come back the next day to finish the installation of the disposal and to install the grab bar, but they were done within two hours on the second day. I was impressed with the courtesy of the work men and they way they cleaned up after themselves. One other minor problem was fixed the same day after I called the office and notified them of it. My dishwasher didn't drain, and the workman came back to remove some sort of plug in the disposal so it could. He apologized profusely for forgetting to remove it when it was installed, but there was no damage--nothing more than a minor inconvenience. The estimate for the work was $840, but with the 10% off coupon available on Angie's List, I paid the $756 listed above. That covered a new stainless steel sink, the plumbing, disposal, electrical work, grab bar and all installation. I furnished the faucet because I wanted to pick it out myself. I rated the price as "good," but since I didn't get any other estimate, I really have no comparison. I went with this because I trusted the workmanship of Jacob's Ladder.
Description of Work: Kitchen sink, faucet, and plumbing replaced and disposal installed. Grab bar installed in bathroom.

Jacob and his contractors completely remodeled my bathroom and did an excellent job. I am very pleased with the looks and the quality of the work that they performed. From the start (estimate) to the final product Jacob and his team worked in a very professional manner. I will certainly be contacting Jacob again in the spring to complete other projects which I have in mind.

I contacted Jacob?s Ladder after trying several other options, including the local fire department, to have a smoke detector battery replaced in a completely inaccessible unit. The low battery beeping was going on its third day and I wasn?t about to go through another restless night. I called Jacob?s Ladder in the afternoon and I explained the situation and offered to pay for an ?emergency service visit?. A few hours later Jacob himself came and took care of the battery replacement. He was very careful manipulating the 16 foot tall ladder in tight spaces and didn?t scratch a thing. He was in and out in about 15 minutes and did a great job. I was told that they did not charge an emergency fee, so the quick service was most appreciated. I'm sure this seems like a simple service, but the attention and timeliness of the service, along with his professionalism was noteworthy. I would strongly recommend this company and will use them again in the future.

When Jacob arrived, he firmly shook my hand and made eye contact. He was wearing a shirt with his company logo, which is a plus for a widow. I explained the job, but also explained why I needed a reliable handyman. We spoke about building partnerships, and the importance of being prompt, and doing the work right the first time. I wasn't telling him these things. Rather we were expressing a shared philosophy. He is a fine man, with an excellent work ethic. When Jacob was finished, he asked for a broom to sweep off my driveway. I told him not to be concerned about that as I was going to be working in that area. He insisted, and we got out the blower. I sincerely hope that these are the characteristics I have instilled in my own children. I will certainly call Jacob's Ladder Handymen again (and again).
Description of Work: My husband passed away 17 months ago, and it has been a constant struggle to find reliable handymen. I joined Angie's List after hearing a radio advertisement (two days ago), and found Jacob's Ladder Handymen Services. The job was to remove a flagpole with a large metal bird house at the top. An appointment was made for an estimate/service. Jacob arrived on time, estimated the job, and removed the flag pole in fifty minutes. He charged me ninety dollars less my 10% off Angie"s List coupon.

Jacob came out to estimate the work and repaired it on the spot. The soffit was loose due to a board pushing out. He was able to adjust the soffit and reinstall the fascia so it looks as good as new. He was very focused on the quality of the job and making sure it would last. He shows his experience and desire to satisfy the customer. I will definitely call Jacob the next time something comes up.

This is the second job we have had Jacob do, the first was a roof job.We removed an old brick porch and had him build a new one with treated porch framing, decking and railings. We were very happy with the two men who did the work. They were attentive to our questions and needs. The work was done in 3 1/2 days from start to finish. The men cleaned up and were happy with bothmaterials and services performed. Jacob also installed a leaf guard system on our gutters, which is fantastic in handling debris from treesand built a small step for our side door area. If your looking to do work around your house I recommend you give Jacob a try.We will be using his services again. .

Called for estimate and got a response from the owner in a timely manner. Easy to communicate with during the process. Receptionist very nice and helpful. Owner worked with us, as we had to have a chimney repaired first. We called him when chimney done and started roof about 1 1/2 weeeks later (2 days of rain). They arrived when they said they would, worked hard and did a good job. Dumpster was removed within 2 days. They stayed till dusk and worked on a Saturday 1/2 day to finish the job. It was a good experience! We even went to view a previous customers house who had the same color roofing we weere getting and talked with her. She also had a good experience.
Description of Work: Roof tear off. Roof replaced 9 plywood sheets replaced Replaced vents on roof Added external vent to bathroom Replaced skylight Installed new flashing around new chimney Ordered bigger dumpster to accomodate customer needing to get rid of some building materials. Good clean up Customer asked that they don't drop heavy bundles of roofing to prevent cracks in cathedral ceilings inside. No problems. Wrong color trim quickly replaced. No flowers or bushes ruined in the process. Workers were organized, knowledgeable, hard working and pleasant.

An excellent job at a good price, with extra service and timely as well. Prompt response, prompt performance.
Description of Work: Replaced garage entry door. Door ordered by me but was damaged and wrong swing (supplier's error) when Jacob's Ladder arrived for pickup. No problem. Jacob's Ladder went to another supplier location, acquired the correct undamaged door (and called me to advise the circumstances). The new door installation and removal and disposal of the old door was performed exactly as planned and quoted. They reinstalled the existing hardware including a door closer, and wrapped the exterior trim in aluminum as requested. Update: I should've noted: the $640 cost included the cost of the replacement for the damaged/incorrect door which JL acquired at JL's cost after rejecting the damaged/incorrect door on my behalf. Jacob's Ladder's labor costs were in the low $300 range.

Thank God for Angie's List! The overall great marks in every category was what convinced us to use Jacob's Ladder. From the moment we shook hands with Jacob before the estimate, until the final fixture was installed, the experience was nothing but enjoyable! Bob and Jeff were the main construction personnel and were ALWAYS friendly, courteous, prompt and cleaned up their job site at the end of each work day. If there was a question about fixture placement or any other detail, they always got my wife's (the project designer's) opinion, and if we were stuck on a certain technical point, they were always quick to suggest solutions based on their experience, the majority of which found their way into the final design. Aside from Jeff and Bob, every other sub-contractor (drywall finishers and painters) were of the same high caliber and quality. As stated previously, my wife is an interior designer, and plans to use Jacob's Ladder as her contractor of choice on all of her future design jobs. Top notch all the way around!
Description of Work: Total tear out to the studs, ceiling raised and new skylight installed, pocket door installed, plumbing and electrical re-located, drywall and cement backer board installed and finished, walls and ceiling painted, custom shower pan fabricated and sealed, tile installed and grouted, electrical and plumbing fixtures installed, shelves, mirrors and finish fixtures installed.

Great and they cleaned up and took cardboard boxes.
Description of Work: last minute request to put together a JumpStart Trampoline. Called on mon & they were able to come onThursday am as I requested because it was a surprise for my Granddaughter. My plan was to put it together with my daughter. Glad we didn't because we would still be working (6/10/12). The Trampoline was an extra safe model and had extra springs and netting, etc. It took them 4-5 hours and they worked constantly. Said it was more complicated than others they had put together. Thought 225 was reasonalble. Have had a potterybarn bunkbed put together by the potterbarn and it was $500. The also put together a different bunkbed at a later date and it was only $250. Worth it to me because it was last minute and they came early since it was raining and had to leave their outside jobs.

I have dealt with contractors in the past and some of the work was absolutely disastrous. I found Jacob's Ladder on Angie's List. Initially, I thought the reviews were too good to be true. But I was wrong. Jacob takes his work seriously, cares about the customer and the job. In my opinion, Jacob's word is as good as gold. He was prompt, fair, and reasonably priced. I knew exactly what to expect and I wasn't disappointed.
Description of Work: Jacob's crew did various "handyman" jobs at our rental property. Work included replacement of a couple garage windows, cleaning & repair of eaves, repair rotted frame/step and installation of new side entry door of garage, partial tearoff and replacement of roof shingles, miscellaneous interior painting, and minor plumbing repair. Job site cleanup.

Great experience from start to finish. This was the first time I had extensive work done inside my home by someone other than family and friends. They did everything they said they would do and more, and they did it when they said they would do it. The entire project was completed within the estimated time (2 - 2 1/2 weeks), even though I added things like new windows after they started. The guys are so talented in many different areas. They really did a beautiful job. I've had many positive comments and people even asked if the cabinets were new. I chose Jacobs Ladder based on reviews from Angie's List and I'm so glad I did. I highly recommend them.
Description of Work: Remodeled kitchen: sanded and painted cabinets and installed new hardware, removed flooring and installed new sub-floor and vinyl flooring, repaired sections of drywall and repainted kitchen walls and trim, installed new counters, back-splash, sink, garbage disposal, faucet, range hood, stove, light fixtures, electrical switches, and outlet covers. They also furnished and installed two kitchen windows. (Note: faucet, range hood, stove, light fixtures, and cabinet hardware were purchased separately and supplied by me.) Additionally, they installed attic pull down ladder, including moving hall light and installing additional light in the attic.

After seeing Jacob's rave reviews on Angies list, I called and left him a message requesting a quote on some garage woodwork/siding that needed to be replaced. I waited a week with no response and understanding how busy a small business owner can be, I reached out to him with a second message. He promptly called me back and was very apologetic for not returning my call. We scheduled a time for him to visit my home and checkout what work needed to be done. The day arrived when he was to visit my home, (I left work early to make sure I was there for his visit) and he never showed up. He did not even call. I was very disappointed as I was excited about all the great things everyone had to say about Jacob and his work, but unfortunately, my experience was not a good one. I understand how difficult it can be when trying to run your own business and get to all requests. I wish I could have given Jacob the opportunity to show off the good work his reviews stated. UPDATE: Jacob reache dout to me soon after my Angies List post and I decided to give him and his team another chance. In short, I AM GLAD I DID!!!! His team showed up on time of the scheduled day of the work and they took care of my needs in a day and a half. The workmanship and professionalism was exactly what I was looking for. I will definitely use Jacob and his team again in the future!!!

Prior to Angie's list, I had asked several friends and co-workers if they could recommend a roofer for some small repairs. Almost universally the answer was along the lines of, "No, but I can tell you who *not* to call -- XYZ company sucks!" While some of the horror stories were entertaining, they didn't really help. We found Jacob's Ladder and gave him a call. He came out the next day (Saturday) to give an estimate. It turned out that the repair work was small, and he could do it right then if we were amenable. Jacob described what he would do first, got on the roof and did the work, and finished in about an hour. I know that our roof is old and will likely need full replacement in the next few years, but Jacob did not try to sell us any additional work even though the company also does the whole nine yards. He was very friendly, professional, and apparently competent because we had a huge rain storm just a few days later and no water came in. All in all, this was a great experience and I definitely recommend him and will call him again for this and other work!

I contacted Jacob's Ladder for this job based upon work done for me in the past. I received a quote within a week of when Jacob came to my house to review the scope of the project. Jacob worked with me to arrive at a project scope and price that gave me the finished product I was looking for. Upon the approval of the project proposal, Jacob ordered the materials and was able to start the project within a few weeks. The project crew (Bob and Jeff) were fantastic! They showed up on time each day and worked through the day in a very efficient manner (I really don't think they even took a lunch break!). With the grading of the yard, the finished deck was a little bit higher off the ground than expected so, without my even having to ask, they added a very nice step to the deck (at no extra cost!). The deck is exactly what I was hoping for. Once again Jacob's Ladder delivered a professionally completed project on time and on budget. I will be calling Jacob again in the future for any project I may have. I had also asked Jacob about a project to put an epoxy finish on the floor of my enclosed porch. Due to the need to grind down the existing cement finish, Jacob felt that the job would be better done by a company with the right equipment and with experience on this type of project. Jacob referred me to a company (Garage Floors Great Lakes) which ultimately did that project for me. I really appreciate that Jacob made the effort to ensure that I received the best result possible.

Jacob really has the customer service down well. He was courteous in phone conversations, and prompt with returning calls and setting up a time to give an estimate. He was always on time. Due to both of our schedules being busy, there was a 2 month gap of time before I had the work completed. He and an associate Chris arrived on scheduled day at the designated time which, I might add, was a Saturday. All indoor work was completed in a timely manner that morning. The roof/air vents had to be delayed due to product used being unavailable. These were installed the very next week. Only negative was that I was unaware that an associate was doing some of the work. (I thought it was a solo business). Jacob had many other jobs he was involved with, so had to leave shortly after work was complete. This would have been nice to know beforehand because it is an unknown person working in my house. I liked that Jacob was very honest about work and timely with estimate. He used e-mail (which I requested) and I thought the communication was better than others that only use phone contact! All in all, a good experience and work done as promised!!

I found them on Angie’s List for my brother and he was very happy with their services.
Description of Work: My brother used Jacob's Ladder Handyman Services for roofing about three weeks ago.
Jacob was always very pleasant, returned calls promptly, and was on time. He answered all of my questions and didn't make me feel silly for asking them. He took personal responsibility for making sure everything was done to my satisfaction. His workmen cleaned up after themselves and didn't leave a mess. Jacob himself even selected items for me (ceiling fan & bathroom fixtures) and sent me photos for approval before purchasing! He definitely goes above and beyond for his customers and I was more than satisfied with everything! I will definately be using them for future projects and highly recommend them!feel

He had a considerable amount of trouble with the door and needed to get some help from another person. They did a good job and the door now works fine. The price did go up a little because of the time involved and the second yperson, but he explained it and honestly they worked very hard. I had no problem paying the extra few dollars. I fact I will be calling them again for more work that I need done as soon as I finish this review.
Description of Work: We had a pocket door that would not open or close. It appeared to be off the track and hard to get at.

Jacob performed both jobs in 1/2 day. He came about one week after giving me a written estimates. Very good service, a very nice person to deal with, no pressure, just professional service you would expect. He knew what needed to be done and we are very happy with the timeliness and cost of the job. If your looking for a garage roof this IS the one you need to check. We are very satisfied with Jacob and will use him again for future jobs.
Description of Work: I had two jobs done by Jacob. First a chain link repair and a haul away of some old bricks dug up in my yard. Nothing was replaced on the fence, a section of the linkage had broken and pulled away from a post. Since I had no tools to fix this I needed professional help This quoted cost was $200.00 and was also the final bill. Second, a one and half car detached garage with two slopes. complete tear off and reroofing job performed. Jacob gave me a good estimate that beat three other roofers by over $700.00 at $1175.00. He included all standard materials needed, including drip edges, 15# felt paper and Owens Corning tiles that matched my house color. He laid down tarp to collect the old tiles and nails.

The owner of the company came and gave us an estimate. The roofer set an appointment a couple of times but had to change them. When he was able to come, he was professional.
Description of Work: They replaced missing shingles and repaired loose shingles on the roof that the winds had damaged.
