Description of Work: Erie Salesmen were very pushy and we caved to their pressure. The roof that was installed was down very poorly, and after 2 1/2 years we complained to the BBB. They ended up replacing the roof, and even that didn't go smoothly. All is well now, but I do not recommend them!

Description of Work: On 9/7/2011, a person from Erie Construction Mid-West Inc. knocked on my storm door (the entry door was open). She caught me off guard, because I was expecting a TV cable repair person; otherwise I probably would not have talked to her. She asked me to make an appointment for an estimate for new siding. She wrote down my information for an appointment, and wanted to know where my wife and I retired from. I told her Erie Construction did not need to know that for an estimate, and I was not going to permit a three hour sales presentation. She told me a representative would call within a half hour to confirm my appointment on 9/8/11. She handed me an Erie advertisement which did not show an address or telephone number which I thought was odd. She wrote down a telephone number and street which she said is in Dayton, but said she did not know the street address. In the past, I read warnings not to do business with a company without an address, so I became suspicious. The representative did not call within the promised half hour, so I used the time to check out the company with Angie's List and Better Business Bureau (BBB) records. Angie's List had three reports, two Fs and one D, and the reports indicated Erie Construction was not bonded or insured. A BBB report showed Erie Construction Headquarters was located in Toledo, Ohio, 14 locations had a total of 44 closed complaints, the BBB met with Erie Construction 11/18/2010 to address the volume of consumer complaints, and the company told BBB that they are working to improve their internal procedures so that consumers do not have to turn to BBB for assistance in resolving their disputes. There was no way that I would do business with a firm with this kind of record. I did not want to get involved. When the Erie Construction representative called, I cancelled my appointment, and told him it was because of the Angie's List F reports and the 44 complaints filed with BBB. The Erie Construction representative than began to talk non-stop. I definitely knew then he was not getting in my home. He said the 44 complaints were all closed and the complaints were a small percentage of Erie Construction business at 29 locations (the BBB showed 14 locations). He did not explain the Angie's List 2 Fs and a D. He said that Erie Construction siding was better than other siding. He began to cite BBB complaints that he said had no merit. He went on and on. I had to interrupt him to ask if Erie Siding was rated in Consumer Reports. He said no, but other companies are not rated either. I asked him if an independent study had been made to show that Erie Construction siding was better than the rest. He said no and continued to talk on and on. I again interrupted to tell him to cancel the appointment. He finally cancelled the appointment saying that he had to get to other customers who were waiting.

Overall, the work went well. Initially, the team who came were a little pushy. In talking to the office staff in verifying the appointment time, they were nice and considerate. The crew who showed up with the materials to do the work were very nice and polite. They were clean. They got right down to business and got the job done. They were a very good crew. I would recommend them, but at the same time I would tell that they still need to check things out and do comparisons as such. They are not very cheap. The type of material they used was nice and we liked it.

Salesman was absolutely the epitome of every stereotype ever written of a sleazy salesman. Showed up one day and refused to even complete the appointment as both spouses were not home. This was never mentioned. Showed up for the second appointment, slightly late. Talked non-stop for about 45 minutes when a second person appeared, with samples, etc. First salesman finished up gave us a price and then immediately started the "if you sign today.........." stuff. As we had done our homework, we knew that the price was a good one and agreed to the work. All of a sudden #1 got a "phone call" from (insert a famous name around town) and had to leave. #2 did all of the paperwork and was quite nice. We did not immediately (the next day) provide some tax info and got several frantic calls, which we ignored and directly called the office. Once the approval was complete, we heard nothing. After about 10 days, we called to see if they were going to install the insulation, etc., and the person on the phone (from Dayton) looked at his calendar and noted that they had time in two days. Scheduling is NOT their strong point. The day before, we called to confirm and the office acted as if we were crazy, of course they would be there. The crew that showed up, on time, was professional, clean and quite good at their jobs. We love the product, it works as promised, and we did get follow up calls asking about our satisfaction. Did I mention that sleazy salesman #1 told us that Erie Constr. had an "A" rating on Angie's List? Apparently he doesn't read well. If you can get past the front office, the work is quite good. LOVE the e-shield.
Description of Work: Added e-shield insulation, replaced the soffit vents, added roof vents to our house.

I submitted a form to get a free estimate from Erie Construction through their website. I received a phone call shortly after to set up the appointment. I set up the appointment for 7/9/10 at 5:00pm. I got a phone call on 7/8/10 to remind me of the appointment the next day and to make sure that I was still able to meet at that time. I told them that I would be home at the time I made the appointment for. I got home at 3:30pm on 7/9/10 and waited until 6:00pm for someone to show up. No one did. I never got a phone call to say they would be late, have to reschedule or any explanation as to why no one was there at 5:00pm. Even after the missed appointment no one contacted me. I let them know that they had missed the appointment through their website but no one called after that. Don't waste your time with this company. They obviously aren't interested in trying to get your business so I'd hate to see how satisfied their customers are after they did work for them.

The company salesman told us their roof installers were "factory trained" at their facility in Ohio. Three guys showed up to start the roof; the arrived at 11 a.m. and left at 1 p.m. They started to pitch the old roof, nails, etc. right onto our deck ! Into our flower boxes ! Over the walls into neighbors yards on both sides ! Our neighbor showed us her sandal with two nails embedded in it. She had been walking around their pool deck area. There was old tar paper and shingles in their yard, plus lots of aforementioned nails, etc. When we asked the roofers if they were trained at the facility in Ohio, they said they never heard of Ohio. The roofers showed up again for a few hours. Mess everywhere. They were also using foul language from the rooftop and for sure our surrounding neighbors could hear it all. We finally told the Erie supervisor "J" that we wanted the crew off of our roof and job. He replaced them with a crew from far away who were wonderful. They were clean, quiet and quick. Did a terrific job of finishing the work. Too bad we didn't start with them ! We wrote a 5-page letter to the president of Erie in Ohio. He has never called or answered our letter. We have since searched Erie Construction on "Google" where we belatedly found lots of negative reviews from around the country. Wish we had done that first. But at least others on Angie's List can be spared dealing with this unprofessional company who has totally misrepresented their employees and services.
Description of Work: Metal shingle roof installation. Take off existing roof (cedar shake) and install new roof. Clean job site to our satisfaction.

Robert came in and explained his product and checked our windows to see which ones were in need of replacement and helped us prioritize with what we could afford. He showed us why he suggested those windows. He then filled out our credit information and gave us his info. He also gave us all info on the government 30% tax credit. 1-2 weeks to hear back from the creditors.
Description of Work: Consultation for 3 new windows for our home (Living Room, and Son's Room). Government is giving 30% back tax credit for any energy star items purchased, these qualify. The have triple pane windows that are awesome. The salesman took a long time at our home, but was very friendly and gave good information, even asked us if we wanted him to go through everything, or skip the boring parts. We were impressed with the product and will be getting them installed in the next 3-7 weeks. The windows are custom made, so take a little while to come in. They had double pane windows, but gave us triple free for signing that day ($380 value). He also gave us $500 off for keeping our original appointment when we called them for the consultation. Windows have a lifetime guarantee and 5 year breakage replacement on windows and screens.

Tried 4 times to cancel appointment because we decided to not pursue siding. They kept calling my wife back to confirm the appointment. I answered their 5th call today and asked them why they refused to understand what a canceled appointment meant. The rep's response was very flippant, stating, well, who set the appointment to begin with. I responded it really doesn't matter. We canceled the appointment. The rep responded with gee...thanks for wasting our time. Other than that, these guys took a high pressure approach the entire way. We made the right decision to not deal with Erie.

PHONE SALES WERE POLITE BUT HIGH PRESSURE. NO ONE SHOWED - TWICE - FOR SCHEDULED APPTS FOR ESTIMATES - VERY UNPROFESSIONAL. I WON'T EVEN HAVE THEM OUT FOR AN ESTIMATE AT THIS POINT.
Description of Work: NO WORK - THEY TWICE SCHEDULED APPT. TO GIVE ESTIMATES AND MISSED BOTH OF THEM. THIS WAS AFTER REPEATED PHONE CALLS SAYING HOW IMPORTANT IT WAS THAT WE BE THERE BECAUSE THEIR GUY WAS MAKING A TRIP AND ALL--A BIT HIGH PRESSURE SALES TACTICS. BUT THEY COULDN'T BE BOTHERED TO CALL WHEN RUNNING MORE THAN 40 MINUTES LATE FOR THE APPT.
