This was the worst experience I have ever dealt with. Dave and his "wife" met me at a property I owned that was under contract to sell, I explained this was an FHA loan and the appraiser wanted some chipped and peeling paint repaired, he also wanted an outside balcony railing reinforced. The closing date was scheduled in 3weeks and the inspector needs the time to come back out, do the reinspect and submit his report. Dave came out the following Thursday to power wash and should have had the work completed by Sunday, he was paid half down after he power washed and then the excuses started, first it was a tire blowout on his way to the property, he promised it would be done the next weekend, that weekend there was a car accident, then there was rain, then his kids needed to get their vaccines for school, one excuse after another. When he finally came out and finished the work it looked rushed and sloppy, the appraiser failed most of his work and added a couple more issues, when Dave was told about the failed issues he wanted $1200 to come back out, I said I am not going to pay him anymore money, that I just wanted him to repair the work honored in our contract and I would do the rest of the painting myself, that is when he stopped responding to my calls and text messages. We missed the closing date thanks to Dave's unprofessional attitude and excuses. This guy is long on promises and short on delivery. I ended up rescheduling the closing date, paying an extra mortgage payment and utility bills for a house that sat empty. This seems to be a common complaint about his unethical, unprofessional work history. I would never recommend Dave Paint and Restoration

Let me start by saying we ended up having to sue Dave because he wouldn't come back to fix his mistakes but he didn't show up for court and we can't garnish wages unless we spend more money to do an asset search. I'll try to keep this brief (even though I'm so mad a year later I still could go on for pages). In a nutshell, he gave us an estimate that we liked and we signed the contract for the work. The contract stated all changes would be executed in writing beforehand. AFTER the estimate was signed, he suggested a bunch more work, which we agreed to and he said he'd put into writing but never did. He even started the extra work but when it came time for payment he wanted more than agreed upon. He was constantly late with excuse after excuse (his family had his cell phone, he had a flat tire on the expressway, gas was too high and we live so far away - yes, you read that correctly). Several months after he completed the job, the paint started to bubble along the back side of our house. We called him to come back but he said, "You've bugged and bugged me to come back for "little piddly crap" and basically stalked me so you voided your warranty because you've harassed me." (Again - you read that correctly.) The "piddly crap" we wanted him to come back and fix was the over spray on ALL of the windows (because no, he did not mask them off before he painted), the painter's tape he left all over the garage door, the huge blob of paint that was left on one of the screens when his paint gun exploded (which went through to the window and ran down in streaks), and the shutters in the front that were now falling off because his power washer loosened the plastic bolts that hold them on the house. So NO. I would not hire Dave again or recommend him to anyone! Ever! There's the Cliff Notes version of my rant.
Description of Work: Exterior painting. - Entire upper half of home (bottom is brick).

Originally, he said he was going to start on the 17th of May. He did not start until the 24th. He put a coat of paint on, and he said that he would need the rest of his money in order to continue. The agreement was that we would pay a deposit, and pay the rest upon the completion. It was dark when they were here working. My husband wound up paying them, but we noticed the next day that there were patches of uneven paint and cracks. There was also some paint chips that were supposed to be cleaned up that weren't. He came back two weeks later to clean up the work. They did not come back again until today 6/20. We made an agreement that he would buy a piano from us by discounting by $100. He told us that he would not be able to have help moving the piano and would need the extra $100. I told him that I would pay the extra $100 if the patches were done and the chips were picked up. He blew up at me and called me names. He said that he had cleaned up the parts that he was going to, and said he was going to take me to court over the $100.
Description of Work: He was supposed to power wash, scrape, and paint the outside of our house.

Dave had to come back 3 times to fix all his mistakes and I have to now hire someone to redo all of it. The main floor hall never had been textured and first he tried doing them without skimming the walls. All the marks showed through which he tried to say I didn't want them skimmed! OMG who does a wall without skimming? Why would I want imperfections to show?? That's why I hired a suppose to be professional! Oh by the way, the second time he tells me he never had done roll on texture before!! When he rolled it he went 1/2 up the wall instead of top to bottom. He had a nontrained helper to do this part. The roller marks all show. After texturing he sanded areas and left them so there was patches all over the wall. He left a 6 inch circle about knee level in the one wall in the staircase that had previously been textured. Came back to fix and tried patching and left more defects and missed areas. The third time he added mud to the paint which made the satin walls flat and only went 1/2 way down the upstairs hall. He stopped before all the doors and left it 1/2 satin and 1/2 flat from the mud. Plus the wall was almost smooth from the first coat to very textured when he added the mud to the paint. Would love for you to see these pictures! He had left a 4 to 6 inch area around the whole staircase ceiling that was very obvious. When he redid that he left a 4 foot area. There is huge drips of paint on the walls. Every redo he patched areas so there is ridges in all the walls that can not be fixed without redoing the whole wall. I pointed the defects out and each time he said "just let the paint dry and it will be fine. If not, I will come back." Also when he came back he said, "Oh I couldnt see them with the wet paint." It was latex and dry before he left!! I was too nice hand hoped he was right that it would be ok the next day. My bad!! He was very messy and left plastic on my floors with drywall all over them for days. I had to wear differnt shoes each time I stepped on the plastic and slipped many times. Only cleaned it up after the fourth visit! Very nice guy but has no clue how to do this work. He said at the start he was a perfectionist and if we didn't like his work he would return our money. Well guess what, he won't return our money. We now have to hire someone else to redo all of it. If that is perfection OMG! If I could add photos you would be shocked! He is not telling the truth!! He was here 4 times because each time he made more problems!!. Anyone who has seen it is shocked by how bad it is. I had it redone and the guy did a beautiful job the FIRST TIME! The bid was a matched bid from another person who could not do the work right away. It was for the same work!! Dave agreed match his bid. He's dreaming on straightening walls! If you are having texture put on a wall for the first time it includes skimming to cover imperfections. Why would you do your walls and have imperfections show through???? If they were perfect to start I wouldnt have needed them done!! OH YEAH, he said your walls will look perfect when I am done and all the marks will be gone or I will give your money back!!!!!!!!!!!
Description of Work: Dave matched the bid from another contractor to texture and paint walls in 2 short hallway's and staircase. Who would have thought you have to say skim the walls first. Thought that was part of texturing! Showed us photos and his license and insurance before he started. Said he was a perfectionist! Really? Didn't share til the second (of 4 times) time that he had never done roll on texture before! The price would have been good it he could have done the job correctly. Should have gone with the other bid! DO NOT USE THIS GUY FOR THIS TYPE OF WORK. Very nice but no clue how to do this type of work!

Response from Dave's Paint & Restorations
Unfortunately this is a case of a customer who wanted more than she wanted to actually pay for. This matter was settled in a court of law and the case was dismissed because this lady had no substantial evidence that Dave's Paint and Restorations did anything wrong. She was given two different: The first bid was too high and this is the bid that was to straighten out all the walls. I gave her an additional bid that matched a prior bid from someone else she had received. This is the bid she chose to accept, so this is the work that was completed. I went out to try and fix this home eight different times after job was completed to the customers satisfaction, but it was no use because she couldn't be satisfied. Sincerely, Dave's Paint & Restorations
