He arrived on time, his estimate was quick, and he started on the problem. The water to the whole house had to be shut off since the tub didn't have it's own shut-offs, (it does now, one of the things I had him install). He took longer than his estimate, but this is mostly due to his office being late with a replacement faucet, so he had to go get one. He was clean, there was no mess to clean up.
Description of Work: The faucet in the bathtub/shower simply stopped, but since it was soldiered in place this wasn't like replacing the kitchen faucet, unscrew one and screw in another.

On January 1, 2017 I had sewer back up and because there was no technician available, I had no service. I ended up needing to use a different company. The biggest slap in the face was the fact, I did not receive a call back like I reqested from a supervisor. I had to reach out to them!!! Not the customer service that I want in a company
Description of Work: I actually did not get the work done because there was no technician available for the service. I have been with Ben Franklin for a number of years and the most recent incident has made me aware that that Emergency service that I pay for by being a club memember is acually not a real thing.

Our customer was contacted right away and it was explained we had many calls prior to theirs. They were given a free Video Inspection of the sewer line. It was scheduled and then was canceled by customer.

The tech arrived promptly and diagnosed a problem with the basement shut off (?). He said he could not get the drain to plug again (we had done a lot of plunging before calling) but would snake it anyway as requested. When I arrived he was presenting a bill for $230 for the drain only and had already explained a maintenance program. I questioned the bill and the need for a clean out from 10 months ago - he had no record of it. At our insistence he called the office and it's record was there (?) but, unfortunately, there is no guarantee for it. A check of the previous visit's price showed the cost w/in $10 and I questioned how that could be since it was only the drain this time and not an emergency call? Uncomfortable and long story short, the tech pressured a decision as he was due on other calls, made several calls to the office, inside and then outside when claiming bad reception (?), came back with a $115 offer which we declined, then reluctantly, and with voiced concern about what he would face from the boss the next day, the drain was snaked w/o charge with the understanding that there was "no guarantee and Ben Franklin would absolutely not return to this house again". He did indeed leave the shower/bathroom/entry etc very clean, which seemed to be a major concern. I offered to speak with the boss, at several points along the way, but was refused. It seemed the tech was in a struggle himself and did the best he could and stayed professional. When the he left, the downstairs shut off proved to be in excellent condition. From all appearances, this was an attempt to scam a senior citizen. I am grateful to have come when I did. Update, 1/10/17: The shower drain that had been cleared back in February and then again Dec. 30, 2016 backed completely up again on 1/7/17. Less than 3 weeks and only 4 showers later! So glad a second cleaning fee was not paid!
Description of Work: A toilet was installed and shower drain cleared by Ben Franklin in February and was considered an emergency call. The 88 year old man who lives in the home showers 3x per week and is bald. In December the shower backed completely up and an appointment was made for 2 days later.

Company called to schedule an appointment with me right away. I chose an afternoon appointment (between 12:00 pm - 4:00 pm) and received a phone call when technicians were on their way. When technicians arrived they introduced themselves (Larry & Chris), took a look at my water heater to see if it was electric or gas then went to work. I felt very comfortable with the technicians and asked a lot of questions while they were doing their inspection, because I wanted to know how to take better care of my home. The technicians answered every one of my question professionally and in a way that I understood what they were saying. Technicians also wore protective clothing on their shoes when they walked through my house. I thought that was very considerate. I was very impressed with the work that technicians Larry & Chris did at my home and will definitely use them again for my plumbing needs.
Description of Work: Technicians Larry & Chris did a full inspection of my water heater. They drained my water heater, checked for gas leaks & carbon monoxide leaks, checked pipes in kitchen and bathroom for water pressure and any drainage problems. I was asked if I had any other concerns regarding my plumbing and I was given estimates for those concerns before they left.

Please be warned, if you own/manage a rental property that this company will outright refuse to provide service. Best to move on to the next option.
Description of Work: I contacted the provider to obtain an estimate for plumbing services - specifically to install water service from the curb to the water meter. I was on hold for approximately a minute before a lady by the name of Christina came on the line. After explaining my needs, she refused to provide assistance, claiming that this company does not service rental properies.

I was completely misled into thinking that because our toilet was old that there was no way to repair it and therefore they were recommending a complete replacement of the entire toilet. We denied and received a second opinion. That said, instead of paying $600 to Benjamin Franklin for something we did not need, we were able to have the toilet fixed without needing any parts at all from another contractor. In fact, the fix was so elementary that I am actually embarassed that I needed to call a plumber in the first place. However, this was amplified by the ridiculousness of the service technician in his assesment of our problem. We will never use them again and will make sure buyers beware.
Description of Work: Had a representative come to the home to work on an older toilet, what I would think was a routine call.

I was given an estimate of $59 for the serviceman walking though the door. After telling him the problem he wrote me up an "estimate". I only wanted the problems fixed, but he gave me pricing on a new toilet I did not request. I said no, just fix the issues please. He also gave me information about joining there "society" maintenance program. I did not see the cost/benefit for this as I have had very infrequent plumbing repairs. YMMV. I had a $50 dollar coupon or else this would have cost more. I brought this to his attention BEFORE he did the job. However, when he wrote up the bill he forgot to give me the $50 credit. He said he would "mark sure" I get the credit and scribbled some notes on the bill. We will see. My only real beef was the high price here. They know you need the service already and have your $59, so why would you NOT want the job done? Your toilet is broken and leaking, you've waited all day, so why not? In searching the internet I found quality tank rebuild kits for around $40. So, it depends if you want to do it yourself and have the expertise. I always want to avoid the time and aggravation, so you pay for this. As far as the punctual guarantee I was given a time slot of between 1 and 5pm. He showed up at 4:45pm and worked about an 1 and 1/2 hours. A fast repair much appreciated. I've had Rooter Router come a couple of times over the years and never paid anything under $200 for two drain cleanings. Just some observations, as I said the only complaint was the high price, but you have to know this going in when you call for services like this.

The plumber from Benjamin Franklin arrived on time for our appointment to give me an estimate on a new water heater and installation. He was the first of three that I saw. The quote I received was significantly higher and included repairs that would have to be done inside the pipes in my walls. He also used an additional scare tactic; he said our system was very old and breaking down and that we were being exposed to carbon monoxide. My husband brought home a carbon monoxide detector that showed absolutely nothing unusual. The other two plumbers never even hinted at having to tear down our walls for additional work. He also said that we could enjoy long term lower costs if we became members of their club (for a fee, of course). We went with another plumber and were VERY happy with his installation and fees; we have had no problems. I would never recommend anyone use Benjamin Franklin.

Plumber only advised customer she should also have a chimney liner which requires no opening of walls but protects chimney and brick motor joints due to removing the furnace from chimney venting and only having water heater vent into it.

They are a sister company of the people who service my furnace. My house is seventeen years old, and had all the original fixtures and plumbing. He showed me where it was leaking. All that he said was true. The water is now softer and it tastes better. The water pressure is up. He threw in a couple of free things. He was polite and thorough, and answered all my questions. He put covers on his feet when he walked through my house. The work took longer than he thought it would. He was out here a second day and everything was done on time. He was everything I would expect from a handyman, and he also cleaned up after himself when he was done. I could perhaps have found someone cheaper, but he showed me that he knew what he was doing, for instance, by showing me the problem with the way the water heater was draining out; I could see he knew what he was talking about. I think his price was probably fair, though I don’t know what plumbers cost. I also got a year’s maintenance contract on the work from the sister company.
Description of Work: I’ve used Benjamin Franklin Plumbing. They did everything. I knew I needed a sump pump. He added a water softener, a backup to the sump pump, and he replaced all three toilets. All three sinks had a garbage disposal put in, and he also replaced the water heater.

This is the second time we used Franklin plumbing, my wife called one time and I called this time and in comparing notes we had the same experience. From the service call to the departure of the service man, they were very professional and charming. The work was well done and there were very clean. On the other side, I thought the price was very high, and he pushed service plans that I didn't need. When returning from the basement to turn off the water to do his work, suddenly I needed a new waterheater and my furnace was soon in need of replacement and my utility sink and drain needed repair. The waterheater and furnace was put in in 2000. Now I know that is a little over 10 years, but I would expect them to last longer than that and I have never had a days trouble with them. He didn't ask if I had been experiencing any problems, or were we running short on hot water at any time or any questions, just these things needed to be addressd. I found that very strange. My wife had a similiar expreience as her service man tried to push additional repairs that was not addressed in the serivce call. This seems to be a company policy as opposed to the service men doing this on their own. I found their technique very insulting and underhanded. I was looking find a service company that I could trust and that I could build a long term relationship with. This is not the company for me.
Description of Work: We had a leak in a toliet at the base of the tank where the wall fixture met the tank
