I had them prior to joining Angie's list. I used them in July.I have used them several times for several different jobs and they have always done a good job.
Description of Work: I used Ed's Heating Cooling Plumbing Electric. They put in some pumps in the basement. They hooked my gas link up to the gas line. They had done sink and faucet work. Lat time, I had to have them out 3 times as I had to get 3 different parts.

In June 2013 a visiting friend smelled gas in our house; we called Vectren. The Vectren service person said there was a leak, serious enough to turn off the gas service. In addition, the Vectren person said she saw no evidence of a gas utility inspection after Ed's completed their work, done in September 2012. We called Ed's to request a service call ASAP. They responded quickly; a manager-level person came. He and another Ed's employee spent three days to find the leak(s) - FIVE OF THEM. Each leak was in the fittings between the first floor subfloor and the basement ceiling. Also, the line running to the future site of a tankless water heater had no cap. They told us that the person who performed the initial work was no longer with the company. So, our concerns: - Not mentioned yet in this discussion: The reporting of the gas leak was the day after an Ed's employee did a spring inspection of our air conditioning system. We realized later that these leaks had probably been in existence, but we hadn't smelled them. We were disappointed that the Ed's employee hadn't noticed a problem the day before our gas service was turned off. - The discovery that no gas utility inspection had been completed after the initial work in September 2012. - The seriousness of the leaks. - We feel as if our lives and our home were compromised by the initial sloppy, inattentive work. - We received no apology from Ed or his staff, beyond our interaction with the manager-level person who helped to rectify the leaks. - On the positive side: - We were not charged for the corrections. - Ed's staff began working on the leak problems right away, and pursued solutions in as timely a manner as was possible for them. Evidently finding the leaks was quite a challenge. - After all leaks fixed, a Vectren service person came to perform the utility inspection, passing Ed's staffs' work. Coincidently, she was the same person who turned off our gas at the beginning of this story, so she knew what to examine.
Description of Work: We hired Ed's to install gas lines for a new gas dryer and for future appliances - gas range and gas tankless water heater. We were pleased at the time with the young men who completed the work - their knowledge, professionalism, clean cut appearances. - We learned that the employee who'd completed the work was no longer with the company.

Ed's HVAC looked at a HVAC system that was poorly installed by a A+ BBB contractor. Ed's gave me good advice on what was done wrong by the other contractor. Ed's gave me good on what needed to be done to correct the problems. I will use Ed's for future work. I should have used them in the first place.

It took about six days to install the new furnace and zoning system. I was there the whole time and asked Dave, our installer, a million questions, which he was glad to answer. I'm glad I learned how it worked, because about eighteen months later our furnace stopped working. When I went downstairs to look at what was going on, I knew how to read the control panel, and I knew what the condensate pump was and what it was supposed to do. It was obvious that it wasn't working, plus the lights on the pump were flashing constantly. When the repairman came, the furnace wasn't working at all, but I could explain to him what I saw the condensate pump doing (and that it wasn't pumping any condensate out). As a result, he was able to fix it much faster. It turned out that some shards from the installation of the condensate pipe had eventually floated down to the pump and plugged it up. So, talk to your installers and learn your new system!!
Description of Work: We had two furnaces replaced with one, plus they replaced our a/c unit with a heat pump. We also had a zoning system put in, since we were replacing two furnaces and our house is a spread-out ranch with a basement. Dave was our main installer, and he was so nice and very, very good. All of the servicemen from Ed's and installers were very, very good. We recently had a problem with our condensate pump on the weekend, and a young, new servicemen came out. He wasn't that experienced, but he called Dave who helped him, and he stayed until he figured out the problem and solved it!! We're very happy with our new furnace, a/c, zoning system, and the new thermostats they installed!!

We had a problem with our furnace, which the heating/cooling company said was an electrical issue, so we called Ed's for an electrician. The electrician came out to look at the furnace's electric and to replace a dryer outlet. He did a great job with the outlet (as I would hope, since that is pretty straight forward!), and he got the furnace to work temporarily. He said he found a ground wire that wasn't screwed in and so he screwed it in, the furnace came on. Great! Well, the furnace went off again later that evening (blowing cold air instead of hot). We had someone else in the next morning to look at it, and said that the electrician screwed in an internal furnace ground wire that basically did nothing (as I could see for myself when he showed me). There was no ground at all from our furnace to the electric box- and an electrician didn't see that?! He also didn't bother to figure out that there was a light and an outdoor outlet hooked up to the same breaker as the furnace. The furnace went off later that night because of that outdoor outlet (it has timed lights hooked up to it) being incorrectly wired to the furnace. Things were just done wrong in our house electrically, and I would have expected an electrician to figure that out, instead of someone who just fixes furnaces. I am disappointed, as the electrician was very friendly and professional.
Description of Work: Replaced an incorrect dryer outlet with the correct dryer outlet. Supposedly grounded the furnace- said there was a ground wire, but it wasn't screwed in, so he screwed it in. He was wrong.

I discovered the hot water heater overflowing, turned the water off and called Ed's HVAC right away. A technician was at my house within 4 hours and made the repairs in 15 minutes. My hot water heater is 12 years old so he checked it thoroughly and advised me on its condition and things to watch for to preclude further problems. He was very knowledgable and helpful.

George from Ed's was right on time. He introduced himself, asked what the problem seemed to be and how long it had been going on. He also asked when the AC was last serviced and what was done. George also asked how old the AC system was. I was impressed with his professional nature and his confidence he could determine what needed to be done. He then asked to show him the outside AC unit, the inside unit and where the thermostat was. Before entering my home, George put on red "booties" over his work shoes. (I liked that!!!!) George quickly got to work after I showed him where everything was. Within a very short time, George said that the AC was low on coolant and had a possible leak. He explained a couple of options and the cost for both. George also went into much detail explaining why the coolant is very expensive. I told George that I really appreciated his explanation of the cost, and realized why it's expensive. I picked the option George recommended and I'm glad I did. With the extreme heat this summer, my house has stayed cool.George did a GREAT JOB cleaning up, and as he was doing his paperwork, I had a chance to look into his service truck. I WAS IMPRESSED!!! Extremely clean, well organized and appearer to have everything he needed to do just about any job.I will continue to use Ed's Heating and Cooling for all my AC needs. Next time I need plumbing, I will be calling Ed's for sure!

They have been taking care of my furnace and cooling system for about 20 years. A neighbor told me about them that long ago. They come out twice a year and service it. They have been very honest about what needs to be done and happily about what doesn't need to be done. They are very friendly people. They come and are very prompt and on time. They put on the little slippers when they come in the house and all that kind of stuff. They do come out and do a thorough cleaning and all the maintenance. Plus if I were to have a problem in the middle of the night or if we have 40 below zero and everybody's furnaces are breaking I go to the front of the line. If you are a continuing member like that you get that kind of perk. I will continue to use them if I was staying here.

The job required installing returns in both ceilings through the attic, adding custom ducts, and rebuilding the upper portion of the furnace. The installation took a full day. Ed's staff was very professional from estimate through installation. There was no pressure to select a new furnace and/or any other solution; just great advise. Everyone who entered my home from the first person to the last was knowledgeable, professional and respectful of my time and my home.

My only issue was having to dispute the billing with the company. I was told by the tech that there would be an hourly charge for him to go to the hardware store and buy a new faucet, which I agreed to. When the tech presented me the bill I discovered he had also added an up charge of $60. Only after the tech left the job and I did some checking to see if I had been charged the hourly rate and the up charge and discovered that I had. I called the company to complain and the up charge was dropped, but my point is that it should never have been there. Once I raised the issue they quickly removed the up charge. But the point is, in my judgement, it should not have been there in the first place. Either add the up charge or the hourly rate but not both. Even though I said I would use this company again, the jury is out. I didn't have a "maybe" box to check.
