 + -1 moreI hired Larry to draw up plans for a back deck that needed to pass a permit review from the city. Initially he was very friendly and responsive, but refused to give me a cost estimate. When all was said and done, he charged me about 1k more than I had anticipated. His bill included charges that were inflated eg 1.5 hours of work for a 2-line email to the city inspector. When I expressed my frustration, he initially started wheeling and dealing "eg I'll give you 50% off my hourly rate" etc. When I felt that it was still too much money, and more than we had informally agreed upon, he threatened with small-claims court. I learned to always ask for an estimate up front.

Description of Work: Larry came to evaluate our foundation which was slightly bowed and had a small crack. With his experience he was able to assure us that our foundation was secure and did not need reinforcements. He explained the bowing was due to our foundation being in clay and the moisture in the ground freezing and pushing against the wall. We did notice that the wall goes back in the spring/summer and the crack closes. He advised us to monitor the situation and to call him back for a reevaluation if the wall appeared to move further or quicker. We have monitored the wall, which hasn't changed and are waiting for the spring thaw!
