Went well. Looks great. Reno provided feedback on what may go well in the bathroom, potential design pitfalls to avoid. Assisted in coordinating work with other non tile vendors (e.g. shower enclosure)

Reno is always a pleasure to work with, as are all of his associates. They did a beautiful job, accommodating our very strict schedule (even working over a weekend). Tile is so easy to install poorly, and they always do it perfectly. I couldn't recommend them more.

The job went well with the only issue being the company we ordered the tile through ordering the wrong tile. This was not an issue with Authentic Tile and Marble who only did the install and demo. Reno was very knowledgeable and prompt when he came for the estimate. His price was very consistant with other installers and he was able to work with us to address problems which were the result of how the builder had installed the tile originally. We actually had to have our front door raised 1/2 inch and Reno worked around our schedule and the order glitch with the tile company to make things work as smoothly as possible. His staff were all very professional and I would not hesitate to have any of them do work in my home again.

We felt confident that this company would have done the best job. They were our number 1 choice, but our timing could not wait. The price was on the high end of other quotes we received, but we know the quality would have been the best as well in this case. If it had fit into our timeline, we would have used this company. We will be calling Reno again for future tile projects.
Description of Work: Reno was wonderful! He quoted tile installation work in our master bathroom for a shower (subway tile and basketweave mosaic marble basin) and marble tile flooring (approx 200 sq. ft.). He is very knowledgable about pouring and lining the shower floor and walls to ensure no leaks, and his strategy is by far the best if you want peace of mind in a tile/walk-in shower. We also appreciated his honesty and direct answers to our questions. Great guy and seems very trustworthy.

I called Authentic Tile & Marble due to a recommendation from Jan Cahill of Classico Tile. The turkish stone floor was not sealed properly when it was installed five years ago (by another co.). The floor needed cleaned, re-grouted and sealed. Reno Carifa was timely for the appt. He was surprised by the stone tile degradation, but said it should not be a problem to repair. The repair process takes as much time as hardwood refinishing. This worked well with my schedule, as I would be out of town. I gave Reno a key to the house due to Jan's rec. Reno returned the key as soon as I was back in town. When I returned a week later, other than the floor looking great, I would not have known they were there. The furniture (oh yeah, they moved that) was back, the floor was beautiful; looked almost new. I am almost looking forward to cleaning it.

Authentic Tile and Marble was recommended to us by our plumber Fritz Bauman and Sons, Inc. They were also recommended by Hamilton Parker where we had chosen our tile. I first spoke to one of the owners of Authentic Tile, and he carefully explained the process involved in our project. He encouraged us to begin looking for a tile that we liked. This is clearly a family run company with a strong emphasis on customer service. From the start, we worked with one of the family members that runs the company. He came out and measured the area. He also provided us with helpful advice on color and design. He even offered to let us use some left over decorative glass tile that he had. From start to finish, Authentic Tile was a pleasure to work with. They worked around our schedule. They were respectful of our house. They cleaned up each evening during the project. After discovering a problem with one of the walls, they even insulated an area that had poor insulation from when the home was built. They were conscientious and informative. They never left our job unattended. They worked on our project until the job was completed. I would gladly recommend this company to anyone looking to have tile work done. Thank you Authentic Tile for an excellant experience!

I contacted Reno Carifa, owner of Authentic Marbel & Tile, as a reference from our decorator, Amy Hiteshew from Sherman and Hiteshew Design Interiors, Inc. Our situation was unique in that our home was still under construction and I had just removed our contractor from the job due to poor workmanship by his subs and other financial issues. When I called Reno he was very prompt in setting an appointment at our convenience and spent time to fully understand our contractor situation and was given every assurance we would directly pay him for all work completed. He offered and provided a list of references before even being asked for it - which was a reassurance of his professionalism and confidence in his work ethic and standards. After he assessed the job completed by our contractor he agreed to meet with the contractor and myself and explain how he would expose the contractor's sub's work to verify any inadequacy or work not completed to code and then meet with my contractor to verify what was found. This took extreme temperance and professional control on Reno's part and was performed without a flaw. The contractor agreed to reimburse me personally for the work completed having been given a copy of Reno's bid ahead of the work being started. During the job Reno's crew was always prompt and abided by my rigorous work travel schedule. Everyday Jim worked he wore foot covers and draped our new hardwood floors to assure no damage was done - finishing daily using a shop vacuum on the bathroom floor and work area. With the tile replaced on the walls and floor Reno requested he come to the job personally to assure the correct grouting was chosen before it was applied. Likewise, upon the completion of the job he personally came to inspect his finished product before final payment would be accepted. Since completion he called me yet again to assure himself of our satisfaction and reinterate his desire to assist us in the future should the need arise. I heartedly recommend Reno and Authentic Marble and Tile for anyone contemplating refinishing a bathroom or a whole house remodel requiring any tile work as we anticipate having him return this spring to tile our two porches. I would gladly give a personal verbal reference if any future customers would prefer it for as we know it is an important decision to make when looking for a reliable, conscientious, and professional skilled tradesmen such as Reno Carifa.
Description of Work: Reno's team worked to: - make an appointment at our convenience to give us a verbal and written estimate - they were tasked with tearing out our master shower to the studs and replacing it - inclusive of: removal of all wall and floor tile, the exposed sheetrock the pan and all plumbing materials and fixtures - contacted our glass wall provider to remove the glass, store it, and replace it when the job was finished - Reno personally contacted our decorator for our tile specs, the proper grouting color and verified the same with us

Authentic Tile and Marble did a top-notch job installing a complex, stainless steel backsplash with a glass tile border in my kitchen. The owner, Reno, was very prompt at providing an estimate as well as giving suggestions as to what type of backsplash might look good for the area I wanted done. He was very professional and listened to my needs. Dan, who did the installation was meticulous in his work and paid attention to every little detail, down to installing the tile around the kitchen window, cutting it into tiny customized pieces to work around the security wires from my alarm system, so that it flowed seamlessly with the other tiles rather than just leaving a blank spot. The stainless steel tile I picked came in sq ft sheets, however due to the layout of my kitchen, many of the tiles had to be cut separately and laid, painstakingly one piece at a time (1" x 4"). I'm very demanding when it comes to having things done right and done right the first time and Authentic tile and marble definiltey has a pleased customer with me!

Overall, the project went well. it took a few days (3) to complete from start to finish. After it was completed we noticed a cracked tile that ran across the width of one of the squares. We notified Reno and Bill was out the next day to replace it with a spare tile we had left over from the project. Bill even came out on Saturday to seal the grout around the one tile for us so we, novice, wouldn't have to attempt it. Overall, we were pleased with the end result and would use them again.
Description of Work: We had the linoleum replaced with 18x18 tile in our 60 sq ft laundry room. We purchased the tile, grout, and sealant. Authentic tile removed and reinstalled our washer and dryer, removed existing vinyl and luon, installed a durrock subfloor, and installed the 18X18 tile on a random running board patter. They sealed and grouted the tile. The total price of $1228 included labor and setting materials.

I am so disappointed with it. Everyday I have to look at this tile and it is so upsetting. The guy did not take responsibility or blame for the way it looks, he acted like it is perfect and it's not. It's a straight cut tile and it's supposed to be put in very level and uniform. WHat they did is said that in order to meet up with some exisiting tile in my hallway they had to put every tile off just a little bit. Now, you can see shadows where the tile is not flat against each other. He said it is an 1/8 of an inch and it is acceptable, but it looks horrible. I don't know why they didn't put some underlaying down to compensate for what had to be raised. now my tile is all jagged. He should have told me that it wouldn't be the right tile to put there or to put smaller tile. He should have told me before so I could have chose something more appropriate for my situation. I told him he needs to put it all in writing someone can agree to all this. I am just so upset. I had him come out here and he would not take any responsibility and he said it looks fine. He said my other tile wasn't even and it was, he's just playing a mind game with me. I wish I had not made that second payment until I had seen it. I don't know how they didn't know this was going to happen and that it wasn't acceptable. They didn't tell me to clear my closets or cover anything up and they had dust all over the place after sawing it. That is so unprofessional, they didn't even tell me to give me an opportunity to fix it, most people are prepared to protect peoples stuff. They had the highest price and the best grade on Angie's List so I went with them because I didn't want it to be screwed up and now it's screwed up. They also had to put it against some carpeting and they tacked it down so much and it ran a fiber, they acted like they didn't do it. I had to have another person come and connect the carpet the tile the way it should be. It seems like that's something they should do. He said he said there were too many holes and acted like it wasn't his responsibility. I'd never use them again or recommend them.

Response from Authentic Tile & Marble Company
I was both surprised and disappointed to read the member’s report on Authentic Tile & Marble Co. Inc.’s performance on her project. I make it a priority to try to satisfy all of my customers to the best of my abilities, which is reflected in an “A” rating on all of our other reports on Angie’s List. I would like to comment on the events leading up to the project, during the project, and after the project so, that other potential customers may read it and decide for themselves whether we acted in a professional manor. I received a phone call from her in January 2010 requesting an estimate of her back hall and powder room. She wanted to use a large tile possibly an 18x18 or a 12x24 on a herringbone pattern with a very tight grout joint. I was informed that the existing carpet would be torn out and the toilet would be removed. I informed her that with the narrow space that she had, the larger tiles may not be appropriate and that a herringbone pattern would definitely not be appropriate as you would not get to see a full pattern. I also informed her that we would need to install durrock as a sub floor and that she would have to have her carpet in the other rooms that meet up with the tile we would be setting stretched and re-tucked and that shoe molding should be installed against the base board and over the tile, which is industry standards. She understood that we needed to install a subfloor and that she would have the carpet re-tucked and shoe mold installed but said she had already made up her mind on the larger tile. I immediately sent her a job quote as she requested. I did not hear back from her so I gave her a follow up call about three weeks later. She informed me she was getting other quotes and she would get back to me. I did not hear back from her until April 26th, almost four months later. She stated that she had lost my quote and needed me to send her another one and that she had finalized her tile selection. Again, I promptly sent her another job quote as requested. I did not hear back from her until June 17th, in the form of a signed job quote and a deposit check of $1,248.80 50%, of the total job quote of $2,497.60. She had modified my quote and hand wrote “remove the carpet and toilet”. I immediately contacted her to discuss the job. I informed her that when we first discussed the job she stated that she would have the carpet and toilet removed in the area she wanted tile. She responded that she remembered that she wanted us to do it and expected me to honor that. In an attempt to satisfy her I reluctantly agreed to do this at no charge. She then stated that the job had to be completed Monday through Friday and could not bleed into the weekend. I informed her that we would do our best to accommodate her schedule. Authentic Tile & Marble Co. Inc. showed up at 8:00 am sharp on the agreed upon day, to begin the project. Upon removing the carpet and toilet we had discovered a small “crown” in the OSB plywood that may have an impact on the transition where her new tile that we would be installing would meet her old tile. When we showed her this she said she could not have a transition where the where the old entry way tile meets up with the tile that we were installing. I informed her that if we did not run the tile level with the high point of the OSB board and follow the contour of the crown that she would have a slight lippage problem. She asked what the solutions were. I informed her that the two options were to set the tile level and have a transition where the old tile meets the new or fallow the contour of the crown and have slight lippage. I also suggested that if we enlarge the grout joints slightly it would be much less noticeable. She stated she did not want to enlarge the grout joints and that she would go with the second option of following the crown. We completed the job by Thursday sticking to her schedule and the tile was much flatter than we anticipated. She called me on the phone after we were finished setting to let me know the tile looked great and that she would be sending me a check. I received the check and all was well or so I thought. A couple of days later the member called me, it was the day after her carpet contractor tried to stretch and tuck the carpeting to inform me that we nailed her carpeting down and that her grout looked pink and that I needed to come out to the job and see what she was talking about. I knew that we did not “nail” her carpeting down and that the grout was not pink but I agreed to meet her out on the job site to accommodate her concerns. When I arrived at the job site, it was obvious that her carpet was torn in the process of stretching and tucking and the grout looked the same as when we had left the job. She then asked me to look at her backsplash as she would like to eventually redo the tile. She also asked me to look at her existing tile that was done some years ago and was not sealed correctly by another contractor. She stated that the sealer made the grout joints white. I tested the sealer and found that the other contractor did a thorough job sealing her tile and it was not the sealer that could have made the grout joints look white but possibly a cleaner she was using. She thanked me and I was on my way. Then I came across her disappointing report on Jan 12, 2011. Six months after completion of her job. I am very sorry that she is not happy with her job but I feel that we tried to accommodate her every way possible.

They did a good job. The installer was very polite and worked hard to keep the mess down. He had a little trouble keeping the pattern straight on the mosaic tile but you have to look pretty hard to see the discrepancy (harder than any friend ought to be looking.) dispite the minor glitch, I was very happy with their work and would definitely use them again.

The response to my initial call was prompt and the appointment for an estimate was made in a timely manner. Reno Carifa gave us some ideas on the tile layout and ordered the chosen tile which helped keep costs down. There were two workers, one to take up the carpet and install the sub floor and the other to lay the tile. Both were professional and on time. The tile work looked great! I was disappointed that the toilet was not reinstalled even though it was in the contract. We were given a discount on the final cost to accommodate this oversight. We had to reinstall it ourselves.

Awesome. Reno came and was very professional and knowledgeable. I told him what I thought I wanted to do, and he made other suggestions, all of which I took. I am grateful I did. I'm glad he didn't just go along with what I thought would look nice. The suggestions he made actually saved me money! He also recommended 2 different tile companies to go look at tile. He called each place and let them know I'd be coming and what to show me. This made the selection process (which could have been overwhelming) easy. Chuck, who actually laid the tile, was courteous, professional and very personable. He did a spectacular job. This will be our tile company from now on.
