Description of Work: Repaired plaster in dining room - skim coat walls and ceiling. Refinished painted woodwork, preparing it for its first new coat of pain in 23 years, removed windows and cleaned mechanisms, replacing sash pulleys. Removed doors, and set out the hinges and lock sets which I took to McBuffer's for cleaning and recoating. After painting all the woodwork, including 8/12 windows, Mr. Purcell installed new window hardware.

Description of Work: I can't say enough good things about Joseph's Construction. He solves problems with design and placement, quality construction, amazing clean-up everyday, incorporates my found pieces within his working plans, the list could go on and on. Last summer we built a garden folly - a garden structure - Joe helped design that reflects the facade of our house. I collected 6 columns over the years that happened to be the same size (!) and Joe used them for the folly. I think that it is an amazing structure. Most of the real work went into setting up the foundation in a difficult location at the edge of the ravine at the bottom of our property. Joe made certain that the folly is there is stay for a very long time. I trusted Joe's judgment about every project he has done for us and hope to have him do additional work in the future. The ONLY reason I am willing to recommend him is because I can't afford to employ him full-time. I'm afraid lots of other people will find him and then I will have trouble scheduling work for us. Joe has done many repairs in this old house, remodeling bathrooms and the kitchen. He will always be welcome here. Joe is with us again, renovating the dining room in this old house. It has lots of wood trim, including wainscoting, old sash windows and layers of old paint. He is adding crown molding for us. He has an educated sense of proportion and a diplomatic way of discussing what I want and what would be best for the house. He is absolutely the best craftsman/builder.

Description of Work: Finish trim and custom shelving in kitchen.

Description of Work: We had problems with a contractor when we did a lot of work in our kitchen. Eventually, we hired Joe Purcell to come in to fix all of the things that weren't done right. In addition, He repaired a ceiling in one of our bedrooms, put in molding, and painted a room. He also took charge of one of the bathrooms we had re-done. He does wonderful finishing work on cabinetry trim. He subcontracted service providers to do work in our home as well. Joe built a garden folly for us this summer (2011). This has been husband's dream for a long time. The folly is unique and incorporates 6 columns I collected over the last 15 years. The style is Greek Revival and perfectly matches the architectural details of the porch front of our house. I would let Joe do anything in my home - new construction or remodel. He is talented, honest, and careful of your property. He prevents the spread of dust and dirt and cleans up at the end of every work day.
