Rustic Slate Roofing

I have used Rustic Slate roofing a few times now for slate maintenance, new gutters, and gutter cleaning. Each time it has been easy to get a meeting set up for a quote. This year Bela came out to discuss the work. He then he emailed a detailed quote, and we set up a time window for the work to happen. The day the crew came out they did all the work very well and left with everything cleaned up nicely. They replaced some broken slates, updated some flashing, did some paint work on my chimney, cleaned the gutters, and removed some algae from my siding. Bela has a first class operation - easy to work with, friendly, and provides great work. I'll call him again next time for the TLC my slate roof needs.

The guys at Rustic Slate Roofing are reliable and skilled roofers. For my more extensive work, they showed up early and stayed until the end of the day, and came back until they were finished with the project. I had a prior contractor charge me a lot to supposedly fix my leaking flat roof (so they just don't do slate) and 2 years later, it was leaking again. Stefan from Rustic Slate said the fix was just temporary, so the flat roofed was repaired again and this time the right way. Rustic Slate has done a great job and I plan to use them for more roof work that I will need to do on my Shaker Hts house. I highly recommend!!!!

Rustic did a nice job, removing the slate roofing, installing the new flashing and seal and reinstalling the slates. Rustic is definitely a quality company to call for roof repairs.

2 men worked for about 6 hours carefully fixing the chimney they removed the loose bricks and replaced them . Tuck pointing less badly damaged bricks. The job was completed in one day and the chimney looks great.

Excellent. Work was completed professionaly and on time. Rustic even cleaned out the gutters and checked and sealed all of the flashing. I noticed that a tile was a little suspect after the work and told them. They immediately came back and replaced it and more without charge. I highly recommend them and will be using Rustic exclusively.

Make sure the original estimate is clear. There were things that they said they would do in the beginning that were "extras' later and I had to hire others to do the work, ie, gutter wires, wiring to gutter wires, wood replacement behind gutters. Originally, I was told that all of this was included

Overall, this company is absolutely wonderful. They are responsive, friendly, and provide very reasonable estimates. The workmen are friendly, and kind. We have really enjoyed their service, and in fact are using them again for another repair that surfaced due to Hurricane Sandy. They were once again, responsive, and gave reasonable prices for their work. They are A++ and very much passionate about their craft.

They came on time and worked all the time they were on the job. No problems with the job or the work performance. They were engaging and very comfortable to talk to as they explained the details of the job. I am a very satisfied customer. This is a very good company.

Bela did not show up nor did he call to cancel or reschedule our prearranged appointment.

We obtained quotes from three companies. Rustic Slate's was the most thorough; Mr. Szente explained clearly and in sufficient detail what needed to be done and why, and what materials they would use. All bids were close in price but Mr. Szente's was the most detailed. In particular, neither of the other companies included chimney work in their bids, despite substantial cracks in morter that could be seen from the ground. Once we agreed to have Rustic do the job, work commenced within days. They sent one worker - "Charlie" - who completed all the work himself over a period of a week and a half (with a few days' out for rain). He worked steadily and carefully and did a great job. We were initially concerned about his handling of one area involvling replacement of three slates - he used one large slate, and we thought it looked out of place. He immediately replaced it with three slates. The work looks great and we're comfortable knowing we shouldn't need any major roof work for many years. But we will contact Mr. Szente annually to check whether any slates need replacing. We recommend Rustic Slate - and Charlie - to anyone needing repairs to their slate roof or chimney.

This is our second time using Rustic Slate. As with our previous work, their price was extremely, their work was EXCELLENT, and they promptly completed the job. They are knowledgable, honest, fair, and hard-working.

Our 70+ year old slate roof had significant damage from a storm. Our insurance company assisted with the replacement of our roof (although we were responsible for any upgrades or improvements from what was originally there). Obviously, this was an enormous job and the stakes here were pretty high for this to go right. I had been seeing Rustic's signs frequently around our area and was able to speak with other homeowners and all reports were positive. I obtained a number of estimates after giving all bidders a copy of the engineers' report and was able to compare all bids. Rustic's bid was extremely detailed and their price was in the middle, but what won me over was their presentation. They are a very small company and the gentlemen with whom I met to answer my many questions were the ones who were going to be up on the roof doing the work. Stefan and Bela ran down every detail for us, met with us numerous times, we worked out a great contract and I'm so glad to say that the project proceeded beautifully and we were very satisfied. It was not without a lot of frustrating weather--including record-setting rainfall and a hurricane that delayed the delivery of the Vermont slate. Rustic performed professionally every step of the way--they started by the date they promised and despite all the rain, ended within the period they had promised; if we had a half day of rain, they showed up for the part it didn't rain. The crew, which included Stefan, Valentine and a couple of others whose names I don't recall, arrived early, one gentleman often stayed late, the site was kept clean, all in all, we were happy. They were also able to take care of unexpected issues that came up, for example, with the drains that the downspouts went in to, without us having to bring in other contractors ourselves. Bela handled the business end of the job and was diligent about staying in contact with us, answering our calls or email, etc. Stefan is indeed an "Old World Craftsman" and the roof, gutters, flashing, downspouts and trim are just beautiful--we've had many compliments from neighbors. We had a very good experience with Rustic.

As apparent from the work done and the cost, this was a big investment for us. Bela and Stefan performed a thorough inspection of our roof and provided an honest assessment of what needed to be done to fix our water intrusion issues and to address the needs of our old slate roof. We purchased this house knowing there were roof and gutter needs. Their estimate was at or below the other estimates we received, and that was BEFORE the 10% Angie's List discount. Everything about our interactions with them was professional. They started the work promptly, cleaned up daily, performed the work in expert fashion, and finished the work in a timely manner. We have received numerous positive comments about the look of the work that they did. There have been no issues with our heavy rains. The real test of their work will come with the next Cleveland winter. I am confident their work will pass with flying colors.

Rustic Roofing didn't show up for scheduled appointment to give estimate and didn't call. After 4 phone calls to them, I finally spoke to Bela who blamed it on his partner, and said he didn't know why he didn't show or call. Was supposed to receive a call to explain, but it never came. I just wanted to know the reason. Job too small?

The workers started in a very timely fashion, worked as weather permitted through the colder months. I have been very impressed with the quality of work and that their work carries a warranty. I highly suggest them.

Called for estimate, very friendly. Willing to discuss with me how the slate is replaced. Asked him to use copper nails instead of galvanized nails. Did a nice job. The reason I rated a B on punctuality and professionalism is that the roofer showed up unannounced on a Saturday morning.

Overall all good experience but will need rain to test repair. I am confident good quality work was performed.

My home had a chronic roofing problem where a flat roof met a slate roof. This problem had stumped my previous roofers who had tried to repair the leak with no luck. I decided it was time to start from scratch and hire a roofer who had experience in both slate roof repair and flat roof repair to install a new EPDM flat roof and tie it into the slate roof. I consider myself a very informed homeowner and I knew exactly what was wrong with my roof and how I thought it should be repaired. When talking with contractors, many times (much like doctors!) they do not like when a homeowner asks too many questions. Rustic Slate Roofing was an exception. They were very receptive to my questions and ideas. First sign of a good contractor is that they show up for the estimate when they say they will. Rustic Slate Roofing called me before my scheduled time to inform me that they were on their way. They showed up on time. After examining my roof, Bela and Stefan (owners) explained to me what they saw and what they thought the problem was. I asked many questions and gave them my thoughts also. We agreed on a course of action and a price (very fair given scope of work), and set a start date. Rustic Slate Roofing sent out two of their crew to begin the job. Given that roofing can be tricky due to weather, my situation posed a challenge as a flat roof on my home had to be opened up and repaired. The crew spent 12 hours the first day at the house to make sure that they both opened up my roof to begin the job and got to a point where they made it relatively water proof while covering up any open areas. We did get some rain but due to their diligence, no water in my attic! From there, the job went smoothly. They exposed the problem areas on my roof and for the first time in a LONG time, tied my slate roof to my flat roof to create a water tight seam. Additionally, they did custom metal bending in copper and aluminum, including welding the copper together to form an intricate single piece of metal. The crew worked 10 hour days and were very patient with my many inquiries as the job progressed. At the end of the day they always cleaned up and left no debris in my yard, another good sign about a contractor. Bela/Stefan were always in touch to let me know how the job was progressing. As I learned, it is not easy to find a roofing contractor who can do BOTH slate and flat roof repair. Based on my experience, Rustic Slate Roofing is a company that can handle this type of work. Overall, I was very impressed with their professionalism and attention to detail. I would highly recommend them to anybody looking for a skilled company to work on their home.
