It was satisfactory. I explained to him what the gutter man said and he went to work. He called me to show me what was happening. After discussing it with my husband, we made a decision to wait.
Description of Work: He came and put a snake into my exterior drain that seemed to be blocked. He opened it, and it ran slowly. He suggested that I have it dug out in the front of my house. We decided to wait for a heavy rain to see if what he did solved the problem.

I had the $30 coupon for Angie's list but found online a $40 Rotto-Rooter coupon before they began work and the did not honor the additional $10 discount. I had an estimate done on Saturday, but they did not leave me a written estimate, instead just a verbal qoute. Since I was not home Saturday I had my housemate take the qoute, expecting a breakdown of costs when I got home. I didn't get one but had already agreed to start work on Sunday. I was suprised that what cost the most was installing a faucet on my kitchen sink. I have a convertable dishwasher and was expecting them to install the dishwasher connection but instead they didn't. I told them that I didn't need the water purifier put back on since I needed to get a filter for it, so they ended up taking my water purifier. Why??I had a drain snake in the basement and that went well but after they left I noticed my hot water tank was leaking, and it wasn't before???I had them reset my toilet and totally expected that they would cut the screws off at the bottom of the toilet (as you would normally do when you set a toilet in) but they didn't. I have used Bejamin Franklin in the past and I must say they did a better job and are not on Angie's List. I was really hoping Angie's list would help me get better service ; (

I would suggest that other Angie's List members shop around. We believe we were charged more then what we should have because we live downtown (inner city). I would recommend asking for referrals and getting price quotes from other companies. Also, I would also recommend having them put all of their services in writing.

Response from Roto-Rooter Plumbing & Drain Service
I believe she is mistaken as to which company she used for this work. As there are several companies with "Rooter" in there name, this is fairly common. Roto-Rooter did not perform any services for her in 2009. In fact, the last time we did a service at this address was 1996, and the cost was $135.00. If there is some additional information that would help us identify this service, we would definately welcome it. Thank you, Ron Trebec

I was given a three hour window and after waiting two hours, received a call that they were running late. The guy showed up within the hour, however. He was very nice and explained everything. What bothered me was that they have a flat fee for fixing clogs; $188. It took him less than five minutes to fix. I'm grateful it was a simple problem but wish the company charged by the length or severity of the job. I think nearly $200 for five minutes is way over priced.

Anthony, the technician, was able to get it running again. After snaking it out an old ball appeared floating on the surface. He was able to pull the ball out with a couple of metal hangers. The trap is about 6 ft deep. I did not realize until later that I was entitled to receive an Angie's list discount. I called customer service and they were able to run my credit card for the discounted amount and they promptly returned my check. Thank you for such great customer service!

Driveway drain needed to be cleaned out. Just had a new driveway installed, my contractor suggested Roto-rooter. Called to request an estimate, printed out an Angie's List coupon. They were out that evening, gave a good but not great price. Service person was great, explained the process. I gave the okay, and it was completed very quickly. Service person found a "blockage", changed tips, pushed past the trouble. Walla, no backed up sewer water on my new driveway. Service person gave me tips on future maintenance of the crock, etc.

They were responsive; I was able to get them on a Saturday. Their technician was good about solving a very difficult leak. He did a nice job. They were a little late getting here on Saturday afternoon, but it was a busy Saturday. They were good about communicating. They called me frequently alerting me that it was taking them a little longer on a previous job. I will use them again in the future.

My tub was not draining and leaked so bad one day that it went through the ceiling and made a puddle in my living room on the 1st floor. I had a very good experience with Roto Rooter. I called for an appointment on Tuesday and scheduled it for Saturday in a 2 hour window of my choice. They called me on Saturday and told me they would be there in 30 mins and arrived promptly. The plumber, Ted, was very professional and courteous. He gave me an estimate of the work, i accepted and he completed the work, double checked to make sure there were no more issues and cleaned up behind himself. I had a leaking pipe that he had to cut out and replace and then he also did the drain cleaning. My tub has never worked better and I no longer have water puddles in my living room or anywhere else!
Description of Work: They cut out a leaking Y pipe from behind the tub, replaced it and sealed that and any other pipes that needed sealing. They also did a drain cleaning with enzyme treatment.

WOW!! and WHEW!! Finally its DONE! Since late last year I've been looking for a plumber/ remodeler to fix the stack in my rental double, plus replace the original sink and toilet in the upstairs apt. Had several people come in, give estimates, then never call me back to schedule or do the work. Estimates varied from 2k to 10k for the same job. Had never thought of Roto Rooter because I thought they just clear drains. Since everyone else didnt work I tried them. VERY GLAD I did. Mike Blevins showed up for the estimate on schedule and went thru all that was needed, and even suggested someone to come in for the estimate on drywall once they were done. He then switched his off says to accomodate my tenant's schedule to start the work. He and Steve set to work on time and over 2 days: replaced the old stack that had about 6 connectors, associated connecting pipes as needed (sink and tub drain), cabled and cameraed the lines for blockages, replaced the upstairs sink and toilet (cast iron) and associated lines, relined the downstairs sink and reset the toilet, and endured a surprise toilet flush with no stack attached. Luckily they know the sound and moved out of the way in time! they cleaned up the work area and suggested use of the Pipe shield drain cleaner (included). And a 1 year warranty to boot. So I'm happy, my tenant is really happy he can use his bathroom sink now, and I can move forward with fixing the lower unit for rent. thanks for a great job, Mike and Steve! .

The job took longer than expected, but I appreciated that he took his time and didn't break any tiles or the wall. I would ask for Keith again for any plumbing job, and I highly recommend him and the company for keeping to the price quote.
Description of Work: Leaking plumbing from bath tub faucet behind the wall. Had to replace the entire fixture and housing with new and replace the leaking/corroded pipe. Keith, the plumber that was sent did an excellent job in a very tight space. He didn't have to break out the tiles or the wall to make the repair. He went the extra mile and then some all for the price quoted.

Very professional job. John (#2723) came out. Problem was basement floor drain for laundry stopped up. He asked what the symptoms where, and took time to figure out what drain lines ran where, and explained what he thought the problem was and what he wanted to do before writing estimate. He cleaned the drain and was neat throughout the job. When he was done you did not know he was there. The person answering the phone was very pleasant. They sent out an e-mail confirmation of my appointment, which is a feature I liked very much. I would definitely use them again.

They were really good, they know what know what they are doing. Of course the pipe was amazingly expensive but we decided if it's plumbing we don't want to mess with that. They know what they are doing, but they are expensive and that's something others should know.

Our kitchen sink drain was clogged over the weekend. After unsuccessfully trying to clear the clog with Liquid Plumber, we called professionals. We found Roto Rooter on Angie's List and called. Within an hour, the plumber arrived. Once the clog was assessed, the plumber cleared the clog and completed the work. The plumber was courteous and knowledgeable. AND cleaned up afterward. The overall experience was excellent.

I discovered my plumbing problem at about 3:30PM on 12/7/2010. I expected the malfunction was a blocked floor drain in our first floor laundry. I called another provider before calling RotoRooter, but that company could not provide a plumber until 12/8/210. I then called Rotorooter, thinking a larger company would have more available resources. Plumber Bryan Baker turned my experience with RotoRooter from a frustrating waste of time into a wonderful service provision. First the bad, with which Baker had no connection. I had called Rotorooter at 4PM on 12/7/2010 and for the next four hours was told that a technician would arrive within 45 minutes. For the next four hours I received follow up calls incorrectly updating me on the arrival time of the plumber ending, at about 8:30PM to report that the plumber had a flat tire. Roto Rooter offerered a 10% discount if I would stick with them and that they would provide a plumber between 8 and 10am. I received another "45 minute" ETA call from their dispatch person and just as the 45th minute approached and I was on the phone to complain about another broken promise, Bryan Baker pulled into the drive. Bryan assessed the problem, like a doctor. He took a history of the problem. His first action was not to snake the floor drain but to determine which drain lines tied together and where, in the basement, did they enter the main drain to our septic. Because of the age of the house, his first suspicion was that the problem might be a collapsed pipe under the concrete floor of the basement but he began, carefully and methodically with our kitchen drain, which he determined connected to the floor drain in the laundry room. He laid down tarps and sheets to keep the room clean and used protective booties to prevent tracking snow and dirt in our house. He answered every question that I had clearly. His snaking of the kitchen drain made no difference to the backed up water in the floor drain so he went to the basement and disconnected the drain pipes there. Water and food waste gushed out--actually it didn't gush despite the pressure of the back up because Bryan anticipated the explosive exit of the water and he released it bit by bit. Clearly, the back up was below the point at which he separated the drain pipe in the basement--probably under the cement floor. Bryan quoted me the pricing for the repair and then confidently began his exploratory destruction of the area near where the pipe entered the floor. A little later he showed me the collapsed iron pipe that he had excavated. He then applied a Fernco fitting to allow a three inch pvc pipe to enter our 6 inch clay main sewer pipe that his excavation had revealed. He ran three inch PVC to the descending pipe. He replaced that pipe with 3 inch PVC and added a cleanout for future use. He replumbed the pipes under our kitchen sink because he showed me that the fittings were rotting and the layout of piping forced any food waste to go through unnecessary twists before it could descend. All of this he completed by 3PM. We were able to use all of our plumbing before he left! He returned on time and as promised the next day to mix, pour and lay the cement over his new piping. It's the nicest patch of cement in our basement! Bryan Baker turned my initial dissatisfaction with Rotorooter into confidence and happiness. He had not just repaired the problem, he had improved our plumbing--added value to the house. I was impressed by his professionalism, his understanding, his approach, his focused, quiet work habit, his sense of humor, his friendly manner and his thoughtful approach to our plumbing problem. And, of course, I was impressed with the results. A job done well.
Description of Work: Diagnosed blocked drain on first floor. Determined actual source of blockage to be a collapsed pipe under concrete floor in basement. Removed concrete, found collapsed iron pipe (1940's home), replaced 2" piping with 3" PVC and added a cleanout. Repiped, with PVC, plumbing under the kitchen sink to provide more secure, direct flow(related to blockage) On 12/9/2010, returned to install cement and cleanup.

The team, led by Bryan Baker and his field supervisor Dan Pajestka, did an amazing job from start to finish, arriving within two hours of my original call and completing their work in time for us to go on our Thanksgiving family trip. They were well organized and thorough and didn't mind this old engineer asking lots of questions.
Description of Work: Bryan came out to diagnose an overflowing toilet on our first floor and found a backup in our main sewer. He and his team diagnosed the problem, and by the next day at 5 p.m. had cleaned out our lines, and replaced about 6 feet of clay sewer main with PVC piping. Major job in our basement involving repiping and hydroblasting sewer.

Toilet appeared to leaking at base. I assumed it could be the gasket/wax seal. Rotor Rooter estimated the time the service man would arrive, and we would receive a call before. Had a clogged bathroom sink and tub . He arrived when they said he would and was very nice and also professional. He really tried to the best he could for us to keep the cost down. Unfortunately, we had an old drum trap that was keeping the snake from getting down to the clog. He tried going down the sink, but also couldn't get to the clog from there. He tried evrything to avoid it, but ended up having to cut out the old trap and install a new one to get the snake down. So it was a pricey repair call, but the service person was so nice and helpful that I was glad to have someone who knew what they were doing but also knew how painful the bill would be and tried to help as much as he could.

Called Roto-Rooter at 8:30am, a professional person asked pertinent questions and said they could have a service person over within 2 hours! When Dan (2272) came he quickly reviewed what was wrong, what needed to be done and the price. He not only explained the situation to me but to my husband who happened to call. We agreed and he went to work efficiency and effectively. Within a half hour we were fixed - no mess no fuss NO COMPLAINTS (which seems a rarity these days with other service people we have used). We are very satisfied customers who would recommend them highly.
