Zoltan and John were prompt, efficient, trustworthy and very very clean. Their estimate was the price I paid after everything was completed. They did a professional job and communicated effectively with me. They worked on my floors while I was away and I had no hesitation in giving them access to my house.
Description of Work: Cleveland Hardwood Flooring refinished floors in 3 rooms that had been hidden under wall to wall carpeting for many years, refinished 2 flights of stairs also hidden under carpeting, and laid floors in two other rooms.

Zoltan (owner)was very nice, prompt, responsive and pleasant. Unfortunately, he used the wrong product to re coat the floor, and it had a very dull finish. He was nice about returning to re do the floor. It meant another night away from home, which was inconvenient. Sadly, the second job was not much better than the first. The floor still has a dull finish (slightly more glossy, but not what we requested). I wish now that I had never had the job done. The floor looks worse than before, shows every bit of dirt and water stain, etc. Not good. We were given no financial compensation for the inconvenience or the unsatisfactory job.
Description of Work: I have hardwood floors on my first floor. I wanted to have them refinished...just the polyurethane coating that had worn since the house was built eight years ago. This required sanding the finish layer off and re coating the floor. It was necessary for us to vacate our home for the day of the work and find lodging elsewhere so the floor could dry until 8 the next morning.

MY CLIENT IS ALMOST RIGHT! YES THE FIRST TIME WE DID APPLY THE SATIN OIL-BASE FINISH ON HER FLOOR. AFTER EVERY SINGLE JOB I ALWAYS GIVE EACH CUSTOMER A FOLLOW UP CALL, AND SHE TOLD ME THE FLOOR LOOKS VERY NICE BUT NOT SHINE ENOUGH! THEN I REALIZED I DID A MISTAKE SO I TOLD HER WE'LL STOP BY AND APPLY THE SEMI-GLOSS FINISH FOR THEM, FOR NO CHARGE! I FELT TERRIBLE, BUT IN PERSON SHE WAS VERY NICE AND UNDERSTANDING, THAT'S WHY I DON'T UNDERSTAND HER REPORT ABOUT US. I'M HUMAN, I DID AN HONEST MISTAKE AND 3 DAYS LATER WE WENT BACK AND DID WHAT WE SHOULD OF DONE THE FIRST TIME. FEW DAYS LATER I CALLED HER AND HER HUSBAND "VERY NICE PERSON" AND LEFT A PHONE MESSAGE ABOUT HOW THE FLOOR LOOKS, NEVER HEARD FROM THEM. I'M VERY DISAPPOINTED WITH HER COMMENTS. I DID SHOW HER THE SAMPLES AT THE ESTIMATE AND SHE WANTED THE SEMI-GLOSS FINISH, I TOLD THE PROS AND CONS ABOUT IT. ANYWAY FOR THE ONE NIGHT WHAT THEY DIDN'T SPEND AT HOME WE WOULD OF BEEN VERY HAPPY TO COMPENSATE IT FOR THEM, BECAUSE WE'RE VALUE OUR CUSTOMERS! AND FOR SURE THAT FLOOR LOOKS INCREDIBLE! AND WE DID FINISHED WITH THE PROPER SEMI-GLOSS FINISH! ANOTHER CORRECTION THE JOB WAS $1050!! SINCERELY, ZOLTAN.

Zoltan came out within 2 days of my phone call to give an estimate. We scheduled about a month later mostly due to our schedule. The entire job took about 4 days. In general, the floors were in good condition to start with but the stairs and upstairs hallway had damage from where there had been carpet. Now they look in perfect condition. The only thing I would change is, before deciding on a stain, I would have looked at a larger piece of stained floor b/c from the sample they showed me on my floor, it was hard to tell what it would look like in the end. I was actually not sure that I liked the end result stain color but as some time has passed (and I've received many compliments!) I am liking the lighter stain I went with rather than the darker stain I pictured from the small sample they provided on my floor.
Description of Work: Sanded and refinished the wood flooring throughout our first floor (dining, living and study), stairs, and upstairs hallway.

They were nice people, but I was not totally satisfied. They did the floors, but when I went to do the painting they had not done the corners. They did not sand and stain the corners or the risers on the stairs. When they came to fix the risers they got stain on the white paint. Based on the low-shine sample that they showed me, my floor does not shine like it should. They offered to do it later, but it would have been more money. One evening they left the open stain in my home. I reminded them and covered it myself. They did apologize and did not do it anymore. In retrospect I should have used the other guy. There were some dark places that they could have used wood bleach to lighten the wood to stain over them. Update: They still did not say why they didn?t do the corners. They only said the nosing was rough, and that was because they didn?t sand it--and they didn?t explain that. They also didn?t admit any wrong doing or explain why they didn?t do the perimeter. Due to the fact that they came back to fix it a second time it did prove them capable of the work. I believe they were just cutting corners. I don?t recall taking an hour to decide the finish color. At 59, I don?t consider myself old or strange. That comment was derogatory toward any senior citizen or persons that consider themselves old. They were just looking for reasons to take the blame off them. I had to buy a solution to give the floor the desired shine. They originally promised three coats of polyurethane and only put two on; the three promised was a condition on seeking them to do the work.
Description of Work: They laid hardwood flooring.

WE DID THIS JOB AT JULY 18TH OF 2007! WE DID SANDING & REFINISHING IN LIVING R, DINING R, FOYER, 13 STEPS! WE DID NOT LAY ANY FLOORING DOWN!! WE DON'T SAND RISERS AT ALL. ACTUALLY WE DID EXPLAIN THAT TO MY CLIENT! IT TOOK HER 1 HOUR TO FIGURE OUT THE STAIN COLOR. SHE ENDED UP GOING WITH THE NATURAL FINISH, WHICH WAS A GREAT CHOICE. WE TOLD HER ABOUT THE TYPE OF FINISH THAT SHE WOULD PREFER, BUT SHE WENT WITH THE SATIN FINISH! AGAIN, GREAT CHOICE. FINAL DAY, SHE WAS HAPPY WITH EVERYTHING SO WE WENT ON. COUPLE OF DAYS LATER SHE CALLED ABOUT THE STEPS THE NOSING PART WAS TO ROUGH SHE SAD? 2 DAYS LATER WE WENT BACK AND APPLIED AN EXTRA COAT ON THE STEPS. THEN SHE ASKED ABOUT THOSE LITTLE DARK STAIN SPOTS ON THE STEPS. WE EXPLAINED THOSE WERE FROM THE TACK PLATES. 2ND TIME WE TOLD HER WE CANNOT DO ANYTHING ABOUT THAT. THE ONLY OPTION SHE WOULD HAVE IS SHE GOES WITH A DARK STAIN COLOR, BUT SHE DID NOT WANT THAT,GO FIGURE! WE GAVE HER AN ESTIMATE ON SANDING THE STAIRS AGAIN ON HER REQUEST!! BUT WE TOLD HER DON'T WASTE YOUR MONEY, EVERYTHING LOOKED VERY NICE, BUT HONESTLY SHE WAS VERY STRANGE!! AGAIN SHE WAS A NICE OLD LADY BUT STRANGE!! GOOD LUCK WITH EVERYTHING MA'AM. I called Zoltan for an estimate and he promptly scheduled an appointment and gave me an estimate for each area. They were very accommodating on scheduling because we were unable to do both areas at the same - we did not have enough space to move the furniture out of both rooms. Zoltan scheduled each room so that we could move the furniture from one room to another. On the first day, we were impressed that they arrived EXACTLY on time and they continued to arrive on time throughout the whole job. They covered the doorways with plastic so that the dust from the sanding would not circulate throughout the house. Zoltan and John worked efficiently and carefully. After sanding the first room, they put down three colors of stain for us to choose from - this was nice. The floors look great and were are very happy. I would recommend Zoltan and John to anyone. They are pleasant, efficient and take great pride in their work. It is also nice that the owners of the company do all of the work. The price was very reasonable for the amount of work necessary for this job.

Excellent. Zoltan and John laid a beautiful new floor for us and we are really enjoying the new look of this space in our home. They arrived on time on the scheduled date and the job was completed in about 1 day. They cleaned up the work area well and the final cost was the same as the estimate. Additionally, when I called Zoltan in a panic after water from a leaking dishwasher had damaged our new hardwood floor in the kitchen, he called back the same day to tell me that they would come by the very next week to evaluate the floor and to make recommendations for next steps. I was feeling awful about the damage, and his message of 'Don't worry, we will take care of this for you.' made me feel so much better. These men are hard-working, genuine professionals and I couldn't recomend anyone more highly.
Description of Work: Zoltan and John installed a prefinished hardwood floor and shoe moldings / quarter rounds in a small office on our first floor. They used the same Durawood product that they had installed in our kitchen a few months prior to ensure a match throughout the first floor. ,

Zoltan returned my call initial call within a few hours of leaving a message and met me the next day to give me a cost to do the work. Him and John gave us suggestions on how to lay the floor and where to buy the wood. The day work began they showed up right on time and completed the entire job in 6 days. They returned calls promptly, answered all our questions, and addressed any concerns we had. The floors look great and we are very happy with their work. They were very professional and really know what they are doing. Their price was also the lowest quote we received for the job. One of the best things is they do all the work so there is never a middle man that you have to go through. I would definitely recommend them, it was one of the best experiences we've had with a contractor.

Zoltan and John arrived exactly on time on day one. They had all the areas sanded quickly and I was able to choose a color from numerous samples they provided. I had a difficult time choosing the right color so they custom mixed the perfect color. By noon on the second day, all areas were stained and a few hours later the first coat of poly was applied. I was able to walk on the floors by 8:00 pm so no need to spend the night elsewhere. On the final day, they arrived to lightly sand and apply the final coat. By 6:00 pm I was able to walk on the floors. Both Zoltan and John were very professional with a great attention to detail. They began on Monday morning and by late Wednesday afternoon I had beautiful floors. We are considering refinishing the second and third floors and Cleveland Hardwood Flooring will be our only consideration.

The sanding was the trickiest part since the floor was manufactured flooring and could only be refinished once. They did a very good job of sanding the floor. However, they were very sloppy with the stain, did not tape off the tile or the woodwork and I have had to repaint all of the woodwork and had to point out an area of stained tile they had to clean off. In addition, I told them I wanted a very dark stain on the floor. When I viewed the test patch of stain I advised them I thought the floor would need two applications since the flooring was old and dry and I believed the stain would take unevenly. I was assured the floor would be dark enough with one coat of stain. After they had applied the stain I reiterated my concern that the stain was taking unevenly and that they would need to apply another coat of stain. Again, I was reassured one coat would be enough. After the floor had dried, and the poly applied, the stain dried very unevenly, as I had predicted. I called and left a message indicating I was not happy with the outcome. I have never been called back. I think they did not leave enough time for the job and hurried on to another job. To add another coat of stain to ensure even coverage would have added one day to the job and I believe they just did not allocate enough time and did not care enough to alter their schedule to satisfy the customer. I am very unhappy with their attitude and lack of customer follow up. In response to service provider: We missed each other on the telephone twice but when I called him back he did not respond to. If you think that an excellent job is splotches on the hardwood floor due to unevenness of stain, so much that it?s pink in some areas then I guess the job is "outstanding."

Zoltan and John were incredible. I called them because our remodeling guy told us that if we moved the wall over in our 1910-built house we would not be able to fix the floor underneath and we should just cover it all over with laminate! We were aghast. The upstairs floor is gorgeous maple. Zoltan came over and helped my husband bash a hole in the wall so they could look at the floor underneath and they confirmed that it ran under the wall. He said they could refinish it and then quoted a price that we could not believe. It was so reasonable that we agreed to have the light refinishing added to the downstairs for a total quote that I indicated. They told us exactly what day they would start and what day they would finish and they actually finished a day early. (They worked Mon-Thurs 8 hours a day) I think they were surprised how difficult it was to refinish the area in the Master bedroom; Zoltan said they almost gave up finding a non-stained level of wood. We were really happy that they persisted because the bedroom floor looks gorgeous. If you knew where the wall was located, you can see a faintly darker stripe. If you don't know, you would not notice. You absolutely cannot tell where the heat ducts used to be. The refinished hallway and stairs, which had ancient dark stain, look beautiful also. The unexpected surprise was the sunroom! This room was added later and the floor is just cheap pine wood. There were several coats of ugly paint and we were not sure that it would be worth it to refinish the cheap wood. It's beautiful! They even added some small repairs, that we requested while they were working, for free. Our downstairs rooms have some deep scratches and stained areas and Zoltan was quite upset that we could not afford to have him really refinish those rooms because the light sanding/poly of course does not fix these problems. I told him that, as reasonable as his prices were, we have so many things that we are doing to the house that we only have so much in our budget and the downstairs floors still look nice with the light refinishing. The 2 downstairs areas of board replacing do have a slight variation in the stain compared to the floor around them because we did not have the whole area refinished. It has been several months, though, and as time goes by the difference seems to be fading. If we have the money in the future, we will have them back to do the real refinishing downstairs. I can't say enough good things about these guys. It was so refreshing to find somebody who had an exact schedule, worked efficiently, was reasonably priced, and performed quality work. There is a reason why they book 1-2 months out. Friends of ours recently bought a foreclosed house and the wood floor (with fifty thousand nails and carpet tacks that the ding-dong previous owners hammered into it) needs desperate refinishing. We gave them the business card from Zoltan and John. I have no doubt they will resurrect the floor.
Description of Work: Lightly sanded and polyurethane the dining room, den, and entryway downstairs and 2 bedrooms upstairs. Pulled the carpet off the stairs and upstairs hallway and completely refinished those areas and 2 tiny closets. Completely refinished the ugly painted floor of a small sunroom. Completely refinished the master bedroom after we had a wall moved over to make a bigger room; this included sanding many many millimeters of wood where the wall had been located to find an unstained level of wood. Replaced the boards to repair 2 areas where old heat ducts had been removed by the remodelers and repaired 2 other areas (about 2 sq ft each) where the boards were cracked.

Zoltan was on top of the situation from the initial call. There was no time loss from my initial call to the date Zoltan and John visited the house to quote the job and then actually complete the job. The guys were exactly on time, pleasant to have in the house, completed the job and gone. We're really thrilled with the final result. We're so pleased that we are going to have 4 more rooms sanded and stained by Zoltan and John. Very good communication and they do beautiful work.

The job went wonderfully. I chose to have them come out for a quote based on the amazing reviews that were already on Angie's List. We were working on a tight time frame and John and Zoltan came out for a quote just a few days after we contacted them. Their price was very reasonable and accommodated our schedule, beginning the work within a couple days. Zoltan kept in contact each day (the entire job only took about 3 days) and let us know how everything was progressing. The two were extremely knowledgeable and helped us choose a stain that would work well in our space. Along the way, we decided to have them repair a gouge that resulted from a pole having been removed and they fit that into the work schedule and did an amazing repair job. Zoltan also left us with cleaning solution and detailed care instructions. To say the least, we are thrilled with the results. They have transformed our home and will without a doubt be contacting John and Zoltan when we refinish the remaining rooms.
Description of Work: My husband and I purchased our first home recently and it had hardwood floors (red/white oak mix) throughout. The previous owner had stained the entire house with a dark tone, however, had stained around area rugs. Zoltan and John came out and sanded and stained the living room, dining room and hallway (we decided to wait on refinishing the additional 3 bedrooms).

The job went very smoothly. Zolton and John came exactly when they said that they were going to arrive to begin the project and the project was done exactly when they said it was going to be done. During the refinishing we asked that one section be replaced that they had not originally contemplated and that was done without question. We had a couple of occasions when we had questions which required us calling them and they immediately called us back and answered our questions completely. They were very clean and followed up to make sure everything was done well.
Description of Work: Work performed was a refinishing and repair of hardwood floors in our kitchen and dining room. Included in the job was the replacement of several boards and repair of several others and the refinishing (sanding and three coats of oil base poly satin) of the entirety of the areas (about 330 square feet).

From the first phone call to the completion of the job, John Varro and Zoltan Onodi were extremely professional courteous and efficient. We had an estimate within 24 hours of our initial inquiry. All questions were answered thoroughly. Calls and emails were returned promptly. The project was completed ahead of schedule, and even though it was not a very large job (2 rooms), Zoltan and John always made us feel like an important customer. They were always on time, left everything clean and called each afternoon with an update and the next day's schedule. Their website is a great testimonial to their workmanship. We will recommend them at every opportunity. Our floors look great!

While the floor portion of the work was done to my satisfaction the following items were disappointments. The living room floor furnace register was removed and left on the fireplace hearth and the white painted baseboards had stain residue from the application spilled on them. I called Zolton and he said he would take care of both the furnace outlet as well as the messy stain. Also, the kitchen floor was discovered to have been damaged by the sofa. There were dents from the small metal glides on the sofa legs and the pine floor has marks where the sofa was slid or allowed to fall from vertical. Zolton volunteered that they had trouble with the sofa and offered to fix the floor however due to my health I decided to let it go.
Description of Work: Asked that the 4 main first floor rooms, not including the kitchen, be sanded, stained and sealed. The work was performed the week prior to Thanksgiving with the last work scheduled for Thanksgiving morning. I moved the furniture with the exception of the dining room table and the living room sofa to the second floor, the enclosed back porch or the kitchen while the sofa and table were moved by Zolton and John.

FIRST I LIKE TO WISH MY CUSTOMER WELL I DID CONTACTED MY CUSTOMER THROUGH E-MAIL & PHONE CALLS SEVERAL TIME. WHEN MY CUSTOMER CALLED AFTER WITH THESE PROBLEMS, WE WENT RIGHT BACK IN TWO DAYS! ABOUT HIS KITCHEN FLOOR, WE HAD TO PUT HIS COUCH IN THERE WE HAD NO OTHER OPTIONS UNFORTUNATELY! THE LEGS OF THE COUCH PUT A DENT IN THE FINISH. I TOLD HIM WHEN EVER HE IS READY WE'LL GO BACK AND GIVE HIM A FREE RE-COAT! HE NEVER CALLED ME BACK, NOW I KNOW BECAUSE OF HIS HEALTH ISSUE. THE OFFER IS STILL UP, JUST CALL ME. WE ARE WILLING TO MOVE FURNITURES AS LONG AS OUR CUSTOMERS SEE WHAT WE ARE DOING, BUT WE'RE NOT PROFESSIONAL MOVERS! THAT ONE REGISTER COVER WAS ONLY REMOVABLE, WE MOVED IT MAKE SURE WE CAN STAIN & POLY UNDER THAT. ABOUT THE CLEANING, BEFORE WE START THE SANDING PROCESS WE PUT PLASTIC EVERY DOOR WAYS, COVER AS MUCH AS POSSIBLE, BUT SOMETIMES YOU JUST CANNOT PLEASE SOMEONE. John and Zoltan were quick to respond to our request for an estimate on such a small job. Given their very busy schedule, usually with much larger projects, it was terrific that they fit our repair in within a week of the estimate. They called to let us know when they would arrive. They put a slight stain on the patch boards so as to closely match the rest of the floor. They were able to complete the job within two hours of their arrival. John and Zoltan are real artisans and the work they did proves it. They also noticed some scratches on the floor near one of the repairs and did some touch-up work to help hide the scratches without any additional fee. John and Zoltan were very courteous and also not bothered to have our twin 7 year-olds wanting to observe some of their work. We will certainly use them again for other flooring projects or repairs as needed. We highly recommend them.
Description of Work: Due to our 1920 house having the wood floor on joists, we occasionally get cracks and/or breaks in boards where the joiners are not on a support joist. We had three such boards which needed to be replaced.

I can't say enough good things about the work that they did. From the day of the estimate, Zoltan and John were extremely friendly. They arrived at almost the exact time they told me they would every day. Zoltan followed up each night with a phone call to update me on the status of the job. They worked efficiently and were able to complete the job in the estimated three days, despite some problems removing the linoleum and corresponding glue in the foyer.
Description of Work: Zoltan and John removed linoleum from my front foyer, repaired and sanded the existing hardwood under the linoleum as well as in the living room and dining room. They then applied stain and poly.

Zoltan and John visited the house to give a quote within one day of my initial call. I had envisioned that we would salvage and refinish the original hardwood floors, but they discussed alternatives with me after pulling up a small section of the old vinyl floor and discovering several layers of vinyl, plywood, and a black tar-like substance. We decided to move forward with a new installation and they recommended an affordable product that we procured directly from Lumber Liquidators. We agreed to a date, and they arrived bright and early to do the install. The whole process from removal of old floor to new installation took just under two days. The finished product looks amazing! We are thrilled at the transformation in the kitchen. They did a fantastic job of cleaning up the work area (though I had to arrange for pick up and removal of the old flooring). GREAT experience from start to finish - very, very professional!
Description of Work: Vinyl flooring was removed and a new pre-finished hardwood floor was installed in the kitchen. Additionally, baseboards and quarter rounds were removed and replaced with new hardwood pieces that were stained to match the new pre-finished hardwood.

We were very impressed with the work Zoltan and John performed. They were punctual, worked with us on our tight schedule (this required that they work the weekend and Christmas holiday), they called us each day to let us know about their progress. The floors were done in 5 days and looked beautiful.
Description of Work: Zoltan and John came in right after we purchased our home to remove carpeting and refinish the hardwood floors in 4 bedrooms, 1 bath, the living room and dining room.

He was very knowledgeable and nice to deal with.
Description of Work: My refrigerator had leaked and caused some gaps in the flooring. Mr. Zoltan came and said he could come and sand it, but he was very honest and told me that would not really fix the issue. Eventually I will have the work done, and he will be the person I use, I really liked his candor.

Zoltan and John are very professional, and every step of the process was seamless from the initial quote to after the floors were finished. They were very flexible with our requests, and these guys even worked on the weekends to get the job done quickly. They even worked with us to apply a special finish coat to our exotic hardwood floors, which was above and beyond what we had contracted for. Our floors look like a million bucks.
Description of Work: Zoltan and John installed, sanded, and finished 1,300 square feet of Brazilian walnut hardwood flooring for us.
