The Basement Doctor

Wes called about an hour before appointment time to ask us if it would be ok if he came early since he was running ahead of schedule, which worked great. I showed him moisture in corner of the basement. He told us that that digging around the foundation certainly wouldn't be worth it since water wasn't getting into the basement in any volume. He said if aesthetics were important to us (this is in a mechanical room) he could recommend a good paint but that otherwise it wasn't worth doing anything about. He noticed a dehumidifier in our basement and said it was the exact kind he would recommend. Provided advice on optimal placement of the dehumidifier in the basement. Walked me around outside to advise on gutter drains. Knew I had a plumber coming to install a condensation drain, so suggested I talk to the plumber about testing the gutter drains. Offered up that their company could do it if the plumber couldn't. He couldn't have been more honest. I will definitely call them again if we ever need basement work done.

It was a great experience overall. No pressure.

They definitely came and did their job. When we had another small little leak, they came right back out and fixed it right away. They came out immediately and took care of the problems.

I chose them because they had a lot of recommendations. They only do pump work, and they were reasonably priced. They sent someone out to look at it, and communication between us was very good, and they came out and did a good job. I found the off of Angie's List.

We were very impressed with Basement Doctor. Mike Jenkins was our installer and was an excellent professional. He was on time, friendly, curteous, and genuinely cared for his work and customer. He is an outstanding employee. Thank you.

They waterproofed our basement. They did a great job. They showed up everyday. The quote was very good compared to others. They covered all pot-marks and they made the basement look a lot nicer. They were friendly. The foreman was there every day. If I did not like something, they redid it or fixed it. They were here three years ago. I don't recall the exact cost, it was about 12 thousand dollars.

I did not have the Basement Doctor perform the work, but they did come out and give me a thorough estimate. They were prompt and professional, but very expensive.

A Sump pump failure caused water buildup in the basement and we quickly called out a plumber and other specialists for advice. The Basement Doctor Rep didn't try to sell us (where others had warned us of potential structural issues). In fact, he looked around and advised us where we should NOT spend unnecessary money and reassured us of our situation. This was a refreshing call!

Even with some small hiccups in the project and several change orders,I saw the professionalism and eagerness to please in all of the basement Doctor crew. They did a good job of drawing on their expertise in the field and were able to come up with a design that we are pleased with. We were very hesitant to do this project at the start and we are so pleased with the results, I am not sure why we waited.

I don't like to write negative reviews, but the service I received was so sub-standard that I feel that I should. As far as I know, the spray that was put on a couple of my walls that had gotten wet is just fine. Time will tell. The drywall repair is another story. The corners are sloppy, and you can see where the tape is. It looks like an amateur did it. The ceiling work was horrible! They left a dividing line between my old ceiling and the new part!? (An independent painter who came into my home saw it and was shocked and fixed it for me.) The pictures in the brochure of spray insulation up in the rafters looked neat and nice. I was excited to get it done and have it look attractive. Well, it is a mess! Just sprayed in haphazardly, with some of it dropped down on my tables and appliances and left behind to harden. I still can't remove some of it and had to cover a table with a towel. Next they chose to seal around my foundation with a DARK BROWN substance, slopped it on, and I am left with this on my front patio! Now I will have to pay to have someone cover this up. As a final slap in the face, the guys left my expensive Dyson sweeper broken and didn't tell me. They had jammed it with fiber from my basement carpet. Guess that sums it up. A nightmare experience.

The person they sent really enhances their company. Jim was wonderful and he did an excellent job and he was very professional. I really like that they tell you what you need now and what you may need later without scaring you.

Calvin and his crew did a great job, kept the space as neat as possible during the work. When they finished all the trash was cleaned up and taken away. If not for the new beams I couldn't tell they were here. During the whole process they were very courteous and professional.

It went well. He was on time. He explained the job thoroughly to us. They were here in 2 days.

The rep from the Basement Doctor was on time, thorough and very personable. We ended up using another company because they took their service to another level- bringing out the president of the company and handling outside issues with our basement (redoing downspouts and window wells) included in the price we were given. The one downside we found with the system that the Basement Doctor installed was that it lays flat along the footer, which could lead to stagnant water. The system that we had installed had a gradual sloping to the sump pump that was installed. The other company also gave great insights to the placement of the sump pump (placed it by the breaker box) as opposed to the advice we had gotten from the Basement Doctor rep.

They were able to do the entire job in two days. They came back for a free checkup afterwards and resealed any settlement crackes and inspected what was done to make sure it was working.

We had a leak and they told us that it was outside rather than inside and gave us great advice on what to do next even though it was something they don't do. I appreciate their honesty and professionalism.

My basement walls were cracking and the sump pump was leaking - I needed help. Basement Doctor told me what needed to be done, replaced the sump pump right away and finished the job a few weeks later. The basement is looking a lot better. They kept the mess to a minimum and kept me informed on job progress. They did a nice job.

The job was fine. They sent two person and finished the job nicely. The price is however, much higher than other people should charge, which I found out later but is too late. This company is pricy, but they did a fine job.

Fine- they had to reposition a couple.

Overall service went fine. Only complaint was I thought they would have removed the old liner prior to putting in a new one. Also very expensive.

His estimate is outrageous. Before we sat down, he said he was not a salesman but having a few decades experience with salesman, he was indeed.

The "salesman" was quick to show up and give me a quote. I regret my impulsiveness in signing a contract and/or not backing out (in writing) of it in the few allowed days. Totally my fault... the quote was given fast, but work was scheduled a month+ out after I signed their contract. Then, they inconsiderately called me the morning of the supposed job to say that the "product" was unavailable... after I had already scheduled around their work. Truth be told, I didn't really want their proprietary (aka only to be serviced by them evermore) pump anymore anyhow and suggested just cancelling the job because the secretary was having trouble fitting me in their afternoon schedule for the next month (aka job 2 months out!). Magically they found the time when I wanted to cancel. The salesman was a dummy and hardly knew anything about what he was selling. He said he'd send me more literature, but never cared to once I signed the contract. He got his commission. I should have known based on the fact that he was not mechanically inclined whatsoever, but was feeling overwhelmed by other pressures and impulsively gave them the go ahead :( The guy who installed it was almost equally uninformed about the details of what he was installing. He inconsiderately tracked mud on my basement carpet... he apologized and said he should have taken his boots off BUT, then went outside again, only to come back in and STILL not take his boots off. He wasn't sorry enough to take them off apparently. Rather than spend $200 or so to replace the backup battery by them in the future, I think I will make the choice I should have made in the first place and choose someone else. I realize my basement plumbing setup is a bit stupid, but I just bought the place and should not have to think about and then explain the piping to your saleman and the "plumber". In addition, the plumber was was waving float switch around after installing the backup, asking me if he should re-install it. He didn't know what it was. They are the supposed experts, but their staff don't seem terribly competent. That said, just avoid basement doctor (at least for sump pump purposes). I am seriously sceptical about their other capabilities now though.

The previous comments that show up we're a mistake. Very neat, professional crew. Foreman Calvin was great as were his men. We are very satisfied.

I chose them because of their reviews on Angie’s List and then two reviews of friends who had used them. They were very explanatory and explained all my options. The project manager, Nathan explained it from A to Z. Every single night they cleaned up and put everything away even if they were going to use it the next day. Even though I was not using the basement, every night I went in there it was all tidy and cleaned up. They were a little bit more expensive than other people were but it was well worth it because of their professionalism and I never felt uncomfortable with them. I met them every morning and let them in and they locked the door when they left in the afternoon. The work is amazing, the basement is completely dry and it looks better now. I am already saving so they can remodel the basement!
