Wes from the Basement Doctor came out to visit me, was very polite and professional, and confirmed that I did not need any work done at all. Its not often in this day and age where a company who is in business to sell you a service tells you that you don't need their service. I appreciate this honesty and give them two thumbs up. If I ever do need work done, I will call them again.
Description of Work: I called them after another company tied to coerce me into a $20,000, repair. I called them for a free estimate/inspection.

[member name removed] , Glad to hear Wes did a great job for you - while we like to repair basements, not every problem requires a big money commitment to get it fixed!
e The crew arrived at the scheduled time and began work right away. They were able to bring the material into basement through a basement window, so there was minimal moving by the crew through the house to the basement . They worked quickly and afterwards, cleaned up all of the debris that they made in the basement. All of the work was completed within one work day.
Description of Work: The Basement Doctor crew installed 10 steel 4in I beams to prevent one of the concrete block walls in the basement from deflecting inward. Caulking was used to fill in the step cracks in the mortar joints of that wall. Also, as part of this repair project, a 4in wide expansion joint was cut across the concrete driveway to relieve pressure from driveway against the garage floor.

They did a really good job. Everyone was very polite and business like. They seemed to be very clean. They were able to work around my things and were very careful.
Description of Work: They sprayed for the mold in my basement and then used a negative air/suction machine to keep the dust down. They also grounded the front part of my cement block in my basement. They also painted over all of the cement wall on the inside parameter of the house. They told me the color it would be ahead of time. They did warn me that they wouldn't let anyone in the house, and that there could be fumes and sounds from the work so I could alert me neighbors.

The quote was not reasonable. It was a rough estimate and I would not be comfortable writing it. I thought that it was an up sell. He did not see anything but he tried to charge me with something anyway. I think they are a reputable company but I would not use them even for an estimate. He will look for a problem. He was nice and responsive but I don?t like the up sell. I would use them in the future for a product but not for an estimate.

Wes showed up on time and was very polite. He quickly diagnosed the problem at no cost. Wes informed me that my problem could be more cost effectively fixed with replacing my gutters. He let me know that he would love to help me and that is his number one priority so providing basement work for an issue that gutters will fix is my best bet. He even provided a referral for another honest provide to assess my gutters.

Basement doctor came to my house and found the issue was with the downspouts. They advised me to add/ replace gutter extensions onto the downspouts and that would fix the problem. Total cost of doing that was a bout $10.00 and 20 minutes of time on my part. Basement doctor talked me out of doing anything else. Their solution worked; I appreciate their honestly and not taking advantage of the situation to up-sell me on work I didn't need.

Response from The Basement Doctor
Thank you for selecting us to install your sump pump.
We have a finished basement that we want to waterproof and then refinish. Basement Doctor is highly rated on Angie's List and was referred to us by a friend. However, they would not send out a representative unless both my husband and I were available to meet with them. I had to reschedule 3 times because of my husband's work/travel schedule, so after almost a month, an estimator was sent to our home. He explained their system and gave us an estimate for the work. He was businesslike, but had quite a salesperson demeanor. He was quick with his explanations, but did not push for a signed contract that day. A few days later a different person from the sales department called to see if we were ready to sign a contract. I explained that after further reviewing their system, I had some questions, and would like to speak with the estimator. Well, they would have preferred that both my husband I met with them again, but the estimator did make another trip out and met with just me. Then we met with a contractor to discuss the demo work and the finish work after the waterproofing job was completed. This brought up a few more simple questions that could be answered over the phone or through email. Basement Doctor wanted to send someone out to my house again for a 5 minute conversation, and they insisted that both my husband and I were there to meet with them. I explained again that my husband traveled extensively, my questions were not complicated, and could I please have someone call or email me. Again I was politely told that they would prefer to meet with both of us. I told them I would try to find the answers through their website. After looking at and watching video on their website I was able to infer the answers to my questions, but I also looked at information on their basement finishing systems, as we would have to finish the basement walls separately after the waterproofing was completed. I called them back to see if I could get some more information on their finishing system to see if this would be an option we would be interested in. Well, she explained the system briefly and then offered to send someone out to our home to assess the project. Based on her explanation of the system and ball park figure, this did not seem to be something that we would want to do. She offered anyway to schedule an appointment. Again, I was asked when my husband I would be available to meet. Again, I explained that my husband travels extensively and it is difficult to meet with him during the week. On all of the Friday night and Saturday options that she offered in the next month, we already had plans. I was available to meet anytime, but this did not satisfy her. She was now looking at a month away to schedule an appointment, and I explained that I had 3 other companies coming out to give me estimates for waterproofing in the next week, and I did not want to wait another month to move forward on this project. She then said that I should call her back after meeting with the other companies the following week, so that they could schedule a time for someone to come out and meet with both my husband and I and see if they could lower the cost of their estimate. I'm sorry Basement Doctor, but I went with one of the companies that was willing to meet with just me, and the company that will be doing the work for us gave me an estimate that was lower than yours. This company is also very highly rated on Angie's list, and I feel confident that they will provide excellent work with a proven basement water proofing system at a fair price. Yes, I happen to be a stay at home mom right now, but I have an engineering degree from the Ohio State University, and I am very capable, and trusted by my husband, to meet with sales people, project estimators, and contractors on my own, share the information with my husband, and make informed decisions about project work in our home.

In April/May 2014, I was working on selling my house and a deal had fallen through due to a nasty crawl space. It was pretty gross - it was damp, and had a little bit of an odor, dirt, rocks, old insulation, and a bunch of debris. I called the basement doctor and they came out to assess the job and give a quote. I needed to get the job done ASAP and I was happy that they rearranged their schedule to get my job done. Overall I had a good experience. The Bad - I would rate the price about 2 stars. I was believe I was quoted around $3600 for the work. I had found a coupon on their website (10% off up to 500 - http://www.mybasementdoctor.com/coupon.html). When I called to redeem this coupon, I was told that this was automatically incorporated into the quoted price. Perhaps this was truthful, but I was expecting to save an additional $360, and I was a bit skeptical that a company would knock off that amount of money without at least mentioning "hey, I'm going to apply a coupon to save you several hundred dollars". I was prepared to walk away from the deal all together, but I was told that if I were willing to write a review, they would essentially meet in the middle of what they quoted and the price I was expecting to pay with the coupon. I also had other companies had quoted about $1000 less, but they were not able to accommodate my short time line to get the job finished. Also, as far as price is concerned, it's not necessarily apples to apples - each company had their own take on how to fix my issues and the lower prices may have reflected less work/materials, etc. All of the companies were expensive, The Good: Two men showed up on time, and worked hard for 3-4 hours. They promptly cleaned out all of the junk left in the crawlspace (old insulation, debris had probably been there for about 40 years), leveled out the dirt, laid a drainage mat, encapsulated the crawlspace floor and walls, treated a couple small areas of mold, and used some sort of foam to insulate the bandboards. There had always been a strong breeze coming through the crawl space, and I'm sure that this was a huge energy waster. After they were finished, the breeze was gone. They were careful to bag up all of the old debris/insulation and laid pads on the floor so they didn't get the nasty crawl space stuff all over my house. All of my interactions with the staff were pleasant and professional. After I had my crawlspace encapsulated, I re-listed my home and 3 days later I received 3 offers on the same day on my house! I am writing this review in my new home. The crawlspace actually turned into a selling point and was usable storage space. Overall, I would probably hire them again. If I had more time on my side, I would have entertained other companies quotes to save some money. Even though it was expensive, I was very pleased with how the job turned out and I'm not sure what the lower quotes end result would have looked like.

Provider was excellent. All work was completed within the three day timeline. Everyone involved was exceptionally neat and took great care to keep the basement neat and clean. All that were involved with the work took care when leaving the house and yard to insure that our four dogs were in the yard, and were wonderful to the people and pets while working. We are very impressed with the professionalism and concern for our home, and our pets safety. It was a wonderful experience, and well worth the price especially with the lifetime guarantee.

We were experiencing a wet spot in the carpet in the middle of our basement floor. Nathan from the Basement Doctor came out and identified the problem as a loose cooper pipe in the sump pump closet and a loose fitting on the sump pump discharge. He did a very through evaluation and suggested we could fix our problem by calling a plumber directly. I really appreciated his honesty and his desire to save us money.

While performing other work in my home a member of the BD crew noticed that the foundation wall had a crack running the length of one of the walls just below the soil line. A level placed against the wall showed the wall to be bowed in approximately 1/2 - 3/4" over 4" at the crack location. A force beam system was recommended to straighten the wall and provide support to prevent additional movement. Seventeen force beams were installed along two walls. Two water pipes required rerouting to allow installation of braces alon one of the walls. The crew arrived at 8:00 am and and was finished by early afternoon. The walls were brought back to within 1/4" over 4" after the initial installation. However, the BD force beam system incorporates a torque screw that is adjusted initially to 40 ft-lb and retightened after 6 mo - 1 yr to gain additional straightening. The work was completed on the date specified and the crew and project manager completed the repairs in a professional and timely manner.

Thanks for having us out to work one your basement walls. The Force system is great, many other homeowners suffering from bowed and/or cracked foundation walls are very pleased with the long term results.
We purchased an older house in April which had been updated for resale. Our inspection of the home occurred in April prior to the spring rains. After our closing the spring rains started and we noticed water entering at the corners of the foundation and the basement smelled musty. I contacted the Basement Doctor to inspect the basement for the source of the musty smell. I determined that the water entering at the corners was due to the downspouts being assembled incorrectly and was able to fix that problem myself but the basement continued to have a musty smell. Nathan Reed did the initial inspection and found several problem areas in the crawl space that needed addressed including a gap in the foundation footer and a sump pump that was placed in a dirt pit with a dirt trench running to it. The crew (Calvin, Mika and ? name escapes me) showed up at 8:00 am on the scheduled date and completed all work by 4:00 pm. They removed the existing plastic sheathing that was laid in the crawl space as well as the existing insulation which had mold growing on it. They trenched around the perimeter of footer and installed a perimeter drain to a new sump pump well. The crawl space was sprayed with disinfectant after removing all the insulation. The entire crawl space was covered with several layers of plastic liner and sealed off. The area between the joists along the outer perimeter of the foundation was also insulated with spray foam insulation. The area went from being a really dark, dank, scarey place to a bright well sealed area that can be used for storage. Nathan and the crew were very professional, arrived on time and got the work done in a timely manner.
Description of Work: Installed perimeter drain, sump pump and vapor barrier in crawl space, as well as, removal of old insulation and disinfectant to neutralize mold.

Everything went great.. They did a great job......
Description of Work: They were hired to put in (2) Window Wells and Glass Block windows in basement.. We also had them put in downspouts with drainage going out into the yard with popups... Calvin (Foreman) and his crew (Micah and Valentine) were very good at the jobs assigned to them.. They moved plants and grass around while working on the downspouts.... And replaced them (most in the correct place).... They were very considerate of our home and wore shoe covers while inside... No one tracked mud in the house... We are planning to have them out again next year to fix a few more areas that need to be fixed because of the grade and more drainage issues...

The cost played a factor in why we chose The Basement Doctor. We were impressed with the man who came and talked to us. He was more on top of his game and more sure with the other basement guys. He seemed to be more assured of himself than the other guys. The basement guys told us that we need to redo the entire basement and different other things. When that guy left we were just overwhelmed with how much the cost was. The Basement Doctor came in and said we don’t need to do that. He walked around the basement and he did not see why they were telling us to that. That was another big factor. The guys who came today to do it were very conscious of the neatness. We had snow on the ground still. I told them I had rugs down and they did not need to bring their own stuffs to cover us and the basement rugs were not very good but they insisted they need to do that. They were very courteous in and out. The price was fair with what we have got. The Basement Doctors seemed to have better quality in product.
