He came out to my property on time. Then let me know I could probably solve my problem for a lot less with work to my gutters. That at the very least I should try that before hiring him. Very impressed.

Everything went as we were told it would go, They were punctual, and cleaned up after themselves every day. They respected our living space upstairs, and were professional, as well as friendly. The estimated time for the job was 7 to 10 days, and Mark and his crew (Sergio, Tony and Jessie) finished the job in 7 days. We feel like we have a new basement. Not only do we have adjustable basement support beams on all 4 sides of the basement, the old waterproofing on the walls was removed and repainted with new epoxy, mold resistant paint, and the old floor was taken up and a new floor poured. It looks great, and we look forward to living with a cleaner and dryer basement.
Description of Work: Our basement walls needed structural support and we decided to have a thin and cracked basement floor replaced as well

Wes Martin came to look at our basement. He explained all factors that may cause dampness, the difference between concrete wall and poured walls. The grading of the landscaping can also result in dampness. He was very professional and answered our questions very patiently. He explained that the basement walls were okay and the fix was more cosmetic. He recommended a larger humidifier and a type of breathable paint. We have not decided yet if we will get any work done, but we appreciate the honest feedback.

With him I had a good experience, very good. They put the strips to reinforce the walls because I had a crack that was getting a little bigger so they reinforced it with these. Earlier the painted my basement walls with you know waterproofing but the more recent was this crack and they did a very nice job. They were fast and they cleaned up after themselves I was very pleased. I'm very happy with them.

Loved them. They called me. They worked around my schedule. They did everything. They made my basement beautiful. They turned it from a concrete slap and walls with blue stuff all over it to like a whole new section of the house that looked like a brand new.

Other companies tried to upsell another drainage system for upwards to $15,000. Basement doctor was able to determine the root cause was a bad sump pump. We have not had any issues since. I needed to add some electrical, which they let me do. This saved some money.

Great. I have taken nearly a year to respond because I wanted to be sure that the basement stayed dry. The young man doing the job hung plastic around the basement to protect me belongings from dust as they worked and painted. They were always polite and responsive and Justin explained and answered all my questions.
Description of Work: Cleaned to remove mold and applied epoxy to the basement walls to prevent dampness and mold from coming back. They also installed buried drain pipes from the downspouts and sump pump discharge pipe.

Great! We got an appraiser first and his estimate to repair was so much less than we feared. This was also our first poured concrete basement; the other two were cinder blocks and the leaks were worse. We accepted this first quote, because they had already come highly recommended by Angie's List and we were eager to get this repair done. We were able to schedule the repair within a week, the contractor/installer arrived exactly as scheduled, and the work was done within one day. Quite pleased!
Description of Work: We had a leak coming out from the bottom of our poured basement walls. After the soil outside was saturated, we'd get water from this one corner of the basement and it would sometimes stay for months. We were nervous about calling because in two other homes, we had needed basement services and they were very, very expensive, so we expected this to be, also.

Contacted this provided to get an estimate on a basement that was flooding. Received a call, along with an email confirming my appointment. On the day of appointment received a call from Ingrid stating that they had neglected to assign my appointment to a serviceman. When I explained to her why I reached out when I did she apologized and stated that due to the rains they had been busy. (which is why I called ahead of the rains.) She called later than evening to see if I could make an appointment at 6 p.m. on Saturday. By the time I listened to message it was late. I called the company on Monday to see if they could accommodate me and was on hold for a while, when I got a customer service rep and asked for Ingrid, I was sent to a ringing line and no one picked up. Very disappointed since they were Angie's List recommended and they advertise on the local TV station.

Estimate process was great and left me excited to get started. Estimator knew exactly how to get me excited with talking design details. Unfortunately these details were left out of the estimate including the one thing he suggested I do if nothing else! The estimate also ended up being 5000$ more than what he stated would be a reasonable range during the estimate, that's excluding the floors! After voicing my shock at the price I was told we could cut back on some things to get the price down. Let's not forget half of my requests were already left out of the original estimate. At this point I requested just an estimate to just epoxy and water proof the basement. It's been two weeks and I still haven't received this estimate. It really should have already been within the original estimate but I guess that wasn't either or It should not be that hard to quote. Glad I didn't let them start the project and then find out the lies and lack of concern for customer trust and satisfaction.

I've had multiple contractors come out that recommended I look at some cracks I was getting in the wall of my unfinished basement. Finally, I got to calling the Basement Doctor and Wes Martin came out to check out the problem. He was very honest saying it wasn't a major problem right now, it was just something we needed to keep an eye on in the next few years to see if it gets worse. I was shocked and very happy when it was recommended to leave it alone, as normally I would expect companies to try at all costs to get work out of this. Wes was very professional, courteous, and punctual. I will call The Basement Doctor first for all my basement needs in the future. Thank you!

Wes came out to inspect some some cracks in our block foundation that I was a little uneasy with. We haven't had any signs of water intrusion or obvious issues, but with a major home remodel starting up, I wanted to have the foundation checked out by a professional. After a visual inspection of the situation, Wes didn't recommend any costly fixes or remediation, basically recommended getting a $5 tube of caulk to seal the small cracks and monitor them occasionally to ensure they aren't growing or shifting. Wes was on-time, professional, personal and honest. Although we didn't end up enlisting their services, I now "have a guy" if we should ever have any real basement/foundation issues needing professional attention.

Mr. Wes Martin checked everything inside and outside stating "you don't need to do a thing maybe just get some mortar and you can have a handyman do it for you." Mind you these people are on commission to sell you a job, but the honesty factor was outstanding. I'm a widow of a few months and he did not in any way or form try and take advantage of me. I had two other companies come out, one company which is well known quoted me an outrageous price, wanting to do everything but build a new crawlspace, like I said these people are on commission and as far as I'm concerned definitely tried to take advantage of me. I highly recommend The Basement Doctor due to the honesty, professionalism and their no pressure policy. Thank you Wes Martin for your honesty and kindness.

This is how it went: The Technician arrived on time, but completely unprepared - no mositure meters, no step ladder, no clipboard, no flashlight, etc. Simply his cell phone. I advised of the purpose of his visit and expectations of an estimate by the time he left. He said he couldnt provide an inspection without the sellers OK, which we had from the seller's agent, who had initially set up the appt. He challenged my agent and me several times during the visit regarding this issue, and seemed to just want to use that as an excuse to leave. He visually looked around the basement for about 10 minutes, then said he couldnt access the crawl space because he hurt his back and couldnt climb in. I again advised that we needed a very complete inspection of all basement and crawl space areas that day, and he made a call to someone else. No one was available, and he left without doing anything at all. He seemed clueless, unprofessional, and certainly was not physically in shape to do the job. I called to speak to his supervisior, hoping to find another techician to come this evening. Was advised that she was just concluding a meeting and would call me right back. She did not call me back at all. We are now in the process, through my realtor, of contacting 3 other trusted basement surveyors, and hoping that someone is available to help us by the report deadline tomorrow. Apparently The Basement Doctor is considered quite inept by people in the industry, but I guess I was swayed by Angie List reviews, and the marketing. I would never try to hire them again.
Description of Work: APPT WAS MADE TO CONDUCT A PRE-BUY HOME INSPECTION AFTER A GOOD GENERAL INSPECTOR ADVISED US OF BASEMENT MOISTURE AND A SINKHOLE UNDER THE CRAWLSPACE. WE WERE UNDER A DEADLINE TO COMPLETE THE BASEMENT INSPECTION AS A LAST INSPECTION BEFORE FINAL NEGOTIATIONS WITH THE SELLER.

[Member Name Removed], Thank you for your feedback. Because you are important to us, we went ahead and pulled the recordings of the phone calls related to this inspection to ensure we had the unbiased facts. We want to make you happy, and let others know the complete story. To help with that we’ve summarized the recorded calls below. When the seller’s agent called in to set an inspection time, he only requested a basement inspection alone due to warped paneling. He was dismissive about the validity of your concerns, stating there were no issues in the basement. He said nothing about a crawlspace needing inspected too – let alone a sinkhole in it! His skipping over the crawlspace is the crucial piece of info which sets the stage for disappointment. Based on the info the seller’s agent told our CSR, we dispatched a project manager who would be able to inspect the requested area, the basement. We told Jason (listing agent) we could met with him. We confirmed with him the exact appt time for him to be there. We inspect and provide reports to the seller or their agent. He was a no-show for the appointment. When he no-showed our call center manager called him but he didn’t answer – she left a voice mail. Later, on a different call, he hung up on our CSR. In listening to the calls, you later stated you didn’t care what the policy was, that you wanted us to do what you needed to get a discount on this purchase. We understand the home buying process can be frustrating – especially when someone drops the ball. We also want you to know we responded correctly per the facts we were given. Had the listing agent actually came to the appt we scheduled with him, to evaluate the property he was selling, we could have done an inspection. Also, had he told us up front the crawlspace, in addition to the basement needed inspected, we would have sent a different inspector. We feel your anger directed to us is misplaced and we hope this new information will change your opinion of us. Your business and that of other Angie’s List users is important to us. Again, we worked with the selling agent to set a time to be there and he was a no call - no show. He didn’t tell us the crawlspace needed inspected. We work in harmony with realtors all the time. We sent an inspector – free of charge – to deliver on what we committed to: performing an inspection of the basement and delivering our findings to the seller or their agent.

Called the Basement Doctor for an estimate for basement finishing. During the question and answer screening process, I was told it would be a 3 HOUR process/presentation. Then I was asked if I was the sole homeowner. No, my husband jointly owns the home with me. I was asked my husband's name (she never bothered to ask me my name!). Then I was told that both of us would have to be there the entire time for the 3 hour estimate. I stated my husband would not be there as it would be a week day and he would be at work. I was told they "don't make appointments unless both of us would be there". I told her this policy is INSULTING and I would take my business elsewhere if they could not come out with just me here. She put me on hold and came back to explain why this is their policy, but did offer to go ahead and make the appointment. I declined. The question is: Would they gladly make the appointment if my husband called and he were the only one who was going to be here? I invite someone to call and try!!

[Member name], Thanks for providing your feedback on setting a basement finishing appointment. When setting an appointment to inspect an issue or discuss a project, we ask for all decision makers to be present. This could be a wife and husband, an elderly parent and an adult child or other helper, domestic partners, investors, etc. We make no preference as to gender or relationship. Over the years we’ve found it is easier for everyone involved to meet together. Why? Because there are many questions, different needs, wants and expectations, and with the vast amount of information often coming from several contractors providing estimates, we’ve found it’s smoothest for all decision makers to hear the same thing at the same time. We give each consultation three hours of our project manager’s time because we want to do a thorough job. Basement finishing is a large detailed purchase, with many ideas, options and decisions which need made before a price is delivered. It’s not something which is a simple one size fits all retail purchase. We don’t want to rush anyone, produce inaccurate calculations or force numerous additional meetings. We’d love an opportunity to visit your home - we’re ready to devote the time and resources to develop the best basement finishing option available.

From the initial visit to the house by Wes, to the final day of the project, the crew, headed by Project Manager, Justin, was efficient, prompt, neat, polite, knowledgeable. A very large endeavor that was amazingly completed - on time (4 days). The containment process included sealing off the area of the lower level not affected, as well as walling off the spiral staircase to the main floor. There was a minimum of dust, etc. which I was very thankful to see. Very impressed. Thank you, Ron Greenbaum, and the Basement Doctor crew. I will recommend you highly to everyone!
Description of Work: Lower Level Walkout had extreme water issues. Trenches in perimeter concrete floor, drainage system installed, sump pump installed, carbon fiber reinforcement strips on buckling cement block walls, filled in deep cracks throughout in the walls, outdoor grading, dug out large area outside which was impacted dirt/clay and replaced with gravel to aid in drainage, ran drainage system outside to the ravine. They had to remove indoor heat venting, move the hot water tank and then put back in place to be able to access the walls for carbon strips.

This is an updated review. I'd had a couple of false-starts over the last couple of years which seem to be due to new people answering the phones and not having a wide enough experience with the company's services. I was pretty sure my vapor barrier has failed in places on what is only an 8-yr old house. I'm an engineer, so I was also pretty sure that the 'perfect' fix meant digging out the basement perimeter outside, removing the wick-board, replacing the vapor barrier coating, refreshing the footer drain material and wick-board, and back-filling ... but I'm no expert an I wanted an expert opinion. Believe it or not, finding a 'basement specialist' who actually knows about this kind of thing and can give knowledgeable input turned out to be almost impossible. I'd spoken to several Angie's List company's and found that none apparently deals with that kind of problem. Basement Doctor/Mr Basement, however, seemed to advertise that this is something they can do, so I called. I had a visit from one person who was unsure, and she arranged for Wes to come out a week later. Wes was great. He knew at the outset I was trying to get a sense of the cost so I could plan for it, that I was guessing somewhere north of ~$15k, and that I probably wasn't about to jump-in and have that level of work done immediately. Even so, he did a thorough inspection, listened to me describe the nature and characteristics of the limited amount of water I'd had on the walls, and discussed the probably causes and remediations. But I was pleasantly surprised when Wes went the extra mile for me, walking the outside perimeter of the house, then looking-over the location of some drainage pipe outlets and making some observations about the relative ground level and basement depth, and pointing out some drainage questions on the lot that I might want to look into. We went over the builders' book for the house and Wes noted that my vapor barrier actually had a 20-year warranty, suggesting that I chase-down the contractor the builder used and see if they were still in business before reaching into my own pocket to do a major refit. That said, he also concurred with my instinct, and explained that a perfect-fix solution would run me about $35k, and of course they'd be happy to do the work for me. However, he also said he thought that it was possible to alleviate the immediate water seepage problems with a mid-term robust solution at much less expensive: An ~$7.8k remediation would stop the water seeping through the inside wall-surface and allow me to finish the basement and use it. I will probably do both eventually, but start with the internal water exclusion in the spring of '16. All-in-all I was very happy with Wes' visit and, while I'd hoped to be entirely wrong about the vapor barrier, I found it comforting to know for sure and have options to move forward with. The company's main-stay clients tend to have a different problem from mine - namely, they usually have ground-water rising due to failed or absent footer drains, and Basement Doctor has a well tested solution for this. But if you're like me and the problem is before water even gets to the footers, then Basement Doctor can probably still help you one way or another and I'd certainly recommend having them come in and take a look.

I was disgusted with them. They said it would not flood and when it did flood they said it was not the battery fault I would never refer them. $7000 of damage to my insurance. Response from The Basement Doctor
We have serviced this property since 2002 when we installed a partial interior drain system for the prior owner. Subsequently we installed a partial structural system to brace the foundation walls. Since 2002 we have serviced under warranty, several areas of these systems. In 2008 Ms. [Member name removed] purchased a battery backup system that had a 30 month manufactures warranty. That system was service in 2009 under the warranty terms. Her main A/C operated sump pump was replaced in 2013. We have serviced her home on at least five occasion since she acquired the property all with warranty considerations. While it was unfortunate that she had a water issue in her basement in May of 2014, while her family was out of town, and there was a power failure in the area. When our service technician inspected the problem on May 7, 2014, the pumping systems were working properly. There was a substantial amount of iron deposits on the pumps float slides, which could have impeded the pump’s operation. There was no evidence that the water that accumulated in the basement was a result of the failure of the six year old battery backup system, or any other work completed at the home by The Basement Doctor, in the past fourteen years. We take pride in honoring our warranties as contracted and we have done so for tens of thousands of our customers in the last twenty-eight years. We would appreciate the opportunity to continue to service Ms. [Member name removed] home’s foundation, should she choose to re-establish our relationship that worked very well for thirteen years.

Mike and Gary put up several beams on the basement walls, and reinforced the joists on the basement ceiling, which supported the floor above. They left the basement clean, and left us with a feeling of security that the structure is now solid and safe. Thank you once again.
Description of Work: Mike and Gary worked on our basement for about 9 hours today, correcting some issues and stabilizing the structure. They were professional, courteous, thorough, and most of all, knowledgeable. We are extremely grateful to them and to The Basement Doctor in general.

We called The Basement Doctors to get a quote on our basement for some waterproofing, new floors, and new ceiling. The scheduler on the phone was very nice, polite and easy to work with. We scheduled an appointment for the following week and someone showed up to give us a quote. He came out and we discussed the work that we wanted to have done and he said he would send over a quote in a few days. When the quote came, it did not include the work that we had originally called for, but included several extra items that he had mentioned when he was at our house. I emailed him back to get clarification on a few things, and didn't hear back for a week so I sent a follow up email. He responded and apologized that he had accidentally missed the email which i get, everybody does it! So he said he would email me back that night. That was over a week ago and I still haven't heard anything! If that is the type of service that I received prior to giving them the business, I can't imagine what it would have been like when they were doing the work.
Description of Work: No work was completed.
