We hired the basement doctor for mold remediation for my commercial building. The sales person/estimator's estimation was high but I can take it with the given timing constraints (schedule was tight). The sales person promised to meet two weeks of work schedule (which was the most critical for my case), however, it was different story when the scheduler was making schedule with the foreman. Also duration of work was lousy, spent more time on site (where the business is running) not because of the work amount but because of work schedule. At the end of work, a couple of item of work was not done and had to come back later to finish up. Sales person always has to check with production manager and a separate scheduler… etc. it was just difficult to work with them.
Description of Work: - Remove of existing insulation of rim joist, treatment for mold and re-insulating using spray foams.- Treatment of mold for over 6000 sqft area of crawling basement.- Replace air vent covers

They were prompt; they were here when they said they would be. They explained everything to me thoroughly and answered my questions. The workers were very polite and cleaned up after themselves.
Description of Work: I originally had The Basement Guys come out to fix a crack in a wall but then they found other problems, so they ended up doing some insulation and then redoing the drainage in the basement.

At first I was very impressed with the sales guy. He was very honest and presented the company very favorably. He also explained what was to be done very well and their methods were very sound. The work was performed while I was not there, and was completely finished when I arrived. A lot of the work is buried and I cannot see it, but they sent me photos every day to keep me informed on how the work was going, which I felt was above and beyond what was expected and I very much appreciated it. Everything as gone very well since thing regarding my basement. When the job was all over-with, it was done very unprofessionally. The reason I say that is because there were several small things that left a bad taste in my mouth. Some of the things include that they didn't put electrical outlets or switches back on the wall but left them stuck on the rafters. There was one 240 volt electrical cord that ended up being pinched between one of the columns and the wall that I had to have them come back and remove. When I got home and the job was supposedly done and there was an old window that was just lying in my basement as well as a cardboard box just sitting on the floor. Furthermore, they had to cut through the driveway in order to run the line through to the sump pump, which I knew they would have to do, but they left gravel all over the driveway and didn't sweep any of it up. There was also a wall receptacle used to plug in the sump pump that I don't believe was installed to code. The outlet box was installed improperly. The bottom line is that the foreman, once the job was done, should have gone back to the site to inspect the job but that never happened. Overall, I am satisfied with the job, the work was well done, I just don't think it was finished professionally.
Description of Work: The waterproofed my basement, reinforced my basement walls by installing support columns, painted the walls, glassblocked the windows and installed a greenhouse outside the windows. They also installed a sump pump and several other things in my basement.

They were wonderful. They are a little pricey, but I got what I paid for. They had to tear up a lot of the concrete, repair it, and install the sump pump. It was wonderful. There was no disruption or concrete dust in the air. I was upstairs and I didn't even hear them working. I would use them again if needed.
Description of Work: They installed a top-of-the-line sump pump.

They are a great company. They came promptly when I called. They checked to see what the problem was and scheduled a day to fix the problem. They cleaned up after themselves. They are going to continue to come every six months to keep an eye on the wall and make sure everything is ok. There is not an additional charge for them to come and check on the wall.

I was impressed with their professionalism from start to finish. From the first sales call to Michael finishing up the checklist and the final paperwork they were excellent. Very open to questions and satisfying any concerns I had. They kept me well informed throughout the process. They did a great job keeping the house clean while doing all this work and I am VERY satisfied with the results. We got our first rain the night after completion and everything worked perfectly.
Description of Work: They put in a new sump and sump pump in our crawlspace, removed mold from the walls and installed a water barrier and removal system. They also re-routed and replaced my footer drains and tied in the downspouts. In addition, they replaced 5 basement windows with glass blocks and finally put spray insulation in between the joists in the crawlspace.

Basement Doctor came in to my house to do an estimate. The good:-The salesman showed up on time and was very professional. The bad:-Overpriced-Scare Tactics (including badmouthing over companies)-"Patented" system is actually a sales gimick in my professional opinion (I am a Mechanical Engineer)-No good thought process/engineering on design / installation plan (I believe this is why it was overquoted - the proposed system didn't attempt to utilize the existing exterior down spout plumbing or exisitng sump pump!)Overall, the impression of the sales approach was ... If you don't use our system, you'll be sorry - so let us overcharge you with our "patented" system that no one else has.I wasn't convinced ... and I'm glad I didn't use them.

I called The Basement Doctor because I had an unusual water issue in my basement after an unusually severe rain and though that I had a foundation problem in my basement. I got an appointment for an estimate two days after I called. The person who asnwered the phone was very courteous and friendly. When the estimator, Greg Martin, arrived promptly, even a few minutes before the scheduled appointment time, I explained to him what I thought the problem was, after which he told me what he thought the problem was (tree roots) and that I did not need any expensive basement work. He was most pleasant and I really appreciated that there was no hard sell for something I did not need. I would definitely call The Basement Doctor again should the need arise. It was a positive experience from beginning to end.

Basement Doctor had performed work at our former house and we were very pleased with their work.I contacted them to provide a price quote and see what equipment they had available. They could provide a standard 1/3 hp or upgrade to a 1/2 hp pump. After receiving their information, I contacted another Angie Listed "A" company for their price and information on their equipment. They would provide a 1/2 hp pump. I investigated the equipment to be provided by both companies and the pumps were comparable quality. The battery backup from the Basement Doctor's battery had a better amp-hour rating, but the Basement Doctor's price for a 1/3 hp pump system was higher than the other company. I contacted the Basement Doctor and we negoiated and lower, fair price for the 1/2 hp pump. We scheduled a date and time for the installation. The technian was right on time. He was experienced in the work and completed the work from start to clean up in reasonable time and everything was done to our satisfaction. The new sump pump operates fine and is much quieter than the old one.
Description of Work: The Basement Doctor removed the old sump pump and installed a new 1/2 hp pump with a battery powered backup sump pump.

The bracing looks sturdy. I'm confident that the wall they braced will no longer move inward, and may return to vertical over several years. The work crew explained what they were doing, cleaned up after themselves, and were very pleasant. CMJ Engineering initially told me that the wall needed bracing, and recommended that Basement Doctor do the work. I would use both firms again.
Description of Work: The Basement Doctor provided bracing for a basement wall that had tilted in and bowed in the middle. Basement Doctor installed four steel i-beams vertically against the wall. They attached the bottom of each beam to the foundation footer. At the top of each beam, they mounted a 2 X 10 board flat on the basement ceiling, attached to 5 ceiling joists. Finally, they attached a spring to each 2 X 10, with the spring pushing against the top of the steel i-beam. Once annually, I'll tighten the spring with a torque wrench, and over a period of years, the basement wall will return to vertical. Optionally, I could pay Basement Doctor to return annually to tighten the spring. When they finished the bracing, Basement Doctor caulked cracks in all the basement walls. Any new cracks will indicate movement of the walls, an indication that I would need bracing for other walls.

We really enjoyed everyone involved with this company- from the initial phone call i made for the estimate with the office, to meeting with Wes who came out and gave us our estimate (which mind you he took his time to explain to us why we would benefit from certain things, and what the whole entire process would entail, we really felt like he cared and enjoys his job) When the project was about to start, we met with Dan who lead the team that did the work on our basement, he was super friendly as well. I was not only amazed by how quick they did everything to our scary 80+ year old basement (2 days!!!), but the end result was stunning ! Dan even moved our washer and dryer back for us, which he didn't have to do, SUPER NICE! I am no longer scared to walk into our basement! I am highly impressed with the work that has been done, and even though anytime you have work done on your basement its an investment, it was well worth it. I would highly recommend the basement doctor to anyone! THANK YOU, THANK YOU!!!

We noticed leaking in our basement which had destroyed a number of items near the wall. We contacted a different service we found on Angie's list, but they said they could not effectively seal the leaks. When we called the Basement Doctor, they responded quickly and a representative came within a week. After a thorough review of the damage and repair, an outline of the costs, and a quick decision to have the work done, we set a date 3 weeks out. The work was completed within a day (4 wall cracks sealed). The men did a fine job of keeping the upstairs clean and protected. When they were finished, the area looked as if they had not even been there save for the actual work completed. A beautiful job, too.

My overall experience was excellent. They did a good job. They were very courteous. They were prompt. They were very high in their pricing.
Description of Work: I used The Basement Doctor in August 2011. They waterproofed the basement by digging a trench around on the inside, by installing a tile and cementing over that. They were fabulous in every aspect. It was about a $17000 job and so it was pretty expensive. They were there for four days doing the job. I liked that they were prompt. They cleaned up after their work. They did an excellent job. They were excellent. They were very accommodating. Their price was comparable to everyone else. Their finished product looked far superior compared to some others. I will use their services again in the future. In fact I told all my neighbors not to go and check out five or six different companies because I interviewed about six different companies. I told them not to waste their time and I told them to just go to The Basement Doctor. I actually have had some bad experiences with people outside of Angie’s list, and I would never have anything else done except with the people that are with Angie’s list.

The work went quickly and professionally. The crew was careful to protect our environment and to keep us notified of what they were doing and when to expect noise, etc. This was especially important as we have two older dogs and we were able to schedule their water theraphy for the noisiest day. There was an additional problem discovered with plumbing into the basement. A pipe from the street to the water meter had to be replaced by another contractor. The Basement Guys were unable to waterproof that spot until after the repair was completed. They returned promptly and completed the work, also double checking for any chips or gaps that had arisen in the foam insulation and fixing them and touching up the waterproofing epoxy where the termite company had drilled holes in the basement wall. We were extremely pleased with tjeir service.
