Description of Work: Touched up our wood trim throughout the entire house with paint, doing repairs as needed before painting. Did the whole length of each piece of trim so didn't look choppy. Also fixed some holes in walls from where pictures were hung, and repainted the walls.

 + -1 moreI believe John worked us in as quickly as he could, although I told him it was not an emergency. The crew arrived this morning, were very pleasant, and after confirming that I did not have to be there, I left to run errands. I came home as they were finishing up; and you could NOT tell that the replacement shutter I bought earlier was close ... but not exactly ... like the rest of them. The crew cleaned up after themselves, damaged nothing in the front landscaping, and ... this is the part that can separate the good from the not-so-good, they removed a torn shred from the old shutter that had fallen into a rain gutter. I don't have a ladder tall enough to reach that and was thankful they saw the piece and removed it. I have another quote from them for painting work in the back yard, but so far ... A+++
Description of Work: A month ago a strong storm came through and ripped a vinyl shutter off an upstairs window. I bought a pair of new shutters that most closely matched those on the house, but obviously years of sun had faded all the rest of the shutters. Because of this, and the fact that I don't own a ladder tall enough to get up there (and am not fond of heights either) I hired out. So the job was install the new shutter and paint all the rest on the front of the house

 + 0 moreWe had some drywall damage in the guest bedroom and some cracks between the crown molding and the wall in the living area. Mr. Mitchell arrived on time for the estimate and was awarded the job. We ran into some obstacles during the work, but Mr. Mitchell helped us work through them. He always was punctual and did exactly what he said he would. The repairs and painting were done on time and were of good quality. He was successful in matching paint colors so that it is now difficult to tell there was any painting or repair.

 + 1 moreOwner was communicative from the very start, called to confirm appointment, (texted that they were running a few minutes late even!), and kept me informed of each thing they were doing. The team of 3 were polite, took their shoes off before walking through the house, and worked continuously while they were here. One team member was sent out to get needed supplies while the rest worked. Unsure of the price comparison, but they did a fine job.
Description of Work: Provider fixed outside window frame where wood rotted due to bad drainage w gutters. Also cleaned raccoon poop off roof, realigned gutter downspouts, took off gutter on that part of gutter causing the issues. Fixed a cracked kitchen drain pipe in basement, replaced 2 light fixtures , cut tree branch away from house, and cleaned and caulked shower

 + 5 moreI can't say enough good things about Adena Paint & Caulk Ltd., the crew and the quality of their work. My home in Eastmoor dates from 1929 and each year there seems to be several outsized projects I have to undertake to keep the home and property in good shape. This year I searched Angie's List for companies that could fix a diverse list of problems. I found one company that could do it all. I needed to address gutter/downspout/drain issues outside the house that compromised drainage and water damage inside the house as well. My deck also needed repair and a number of old second floor windows needed reglazing inside and out. John from Adena looked at my entire list of projects and assured me he could fix them all. Sure enough, over a period of 4-5 days the Adena crew found and cleared all of 3 separate drains carrying rain water from every corner of the house to a city sewer basin in the rear of my property. Justin trenched around the sewer and rebuild the three drain configuration so that now all empty into the sewer properly. Joel and Mike rebuilt my deck and repaired water damaged facia and soffit. Josh repaired parts of my plaster ceiling that had water damage and also applied fungicide and later paint to a water damaged lower level wall. Josh reglazed and repainted interior windows while Joel, Mike and John did an excellent job of scraping, glazing, priming and painting the exterior windows. I never imagined at the start that one company would have the skill sets to accomplish all the diverse jobs I needed done, but Adena did it all and did it well. I would use them again and highly recommend them for the quality of their work, attention to detail and friendliness.
Description of Work: Repaired gutters, downspouts and drains. Repaired damaged facia and soffit. Repaired, reglazed and repainted in several rooms inside the house and 2nd floor exterior windows. Repaired deck by replacing a water rotted beam and fashioning and replacing about 7 water damaged ribs in railing. Sealed cement patio. Power washed, caulked, cemented and otherwise repaired and waterproofed exterior leaks over a stone facia.

 + -1 moreWent well. Took care in all aspects of the work. Moved and covered all furniture where necessary. Did not find one drop of paint on floors or furniture. Returned after flooring was laid for touch up to walls and to do a final coat on the baseboards.

John Mitchell and his crew were very professional, helpful and did a great job. From the bid to the finish, we were very pleased with their work ethic. Everything was done as promised, nothing was damaged, the work areas were cleaned up promptly, and the results are just what we were looking for. Once they were finished, John even scheduled a walk through around the house with us to make sure everything was completed to our satisfaction.  + -1 moreAfter getting three estimates I decided to hire Adena. The owner, John, called back in a timely manner, came out and sent and estimate the next day. His employee showed up when promised. He put on one coat of "gel" stain and the finish wasn't right, so a 2nd coat was applied. Although the project took 3 trips to complete, we are very happy with the results.
Description of Work: Our fiberglass front door was weathered and needed to be restained.

 + 2 moreJohn did an excellent interior painting job. He is also extremely handy and took care of a number of additional projects. His prices were very reasonable. He was on time and on budget and communicated well. 1st - In order to prepare his estimate, he took the time to get detailed measurements and detailed information from us regarding exactly what we wanted done and how we wanted it done. His estimate was therefore thorough and accurate. 2nd - We had a VERY tight schedule for this painting project. He started the job when he promised and he finished when promised. He is ON TIME and ON BUDGET. He showed up when he was supposed to (and when there was an occasional delay he called in advance to let us know). 3rd - The quality of the paint job and other work performed for us was EXCELLENT. 4th - He used appropriate drop cloths, was very careful and did not get paint on our carpet. 5th - He cleaned up at the end of every day and after the job was finished. He properly disposed of the empty paint cans and any cans which had a small amount of paint that we did not want to keep. 6th - John was on the job himself, every day and all day. He did most of the work himself. The assistants he brought in to help him were experienced, well trained and well supervised. 7th - He COMMUNICATED with us on a regular basis to give progress reports and to ask questions if there was ANY uncertainty about what we wanted. We plan to use him in the future if we need any additional painting and for a variety of other projects as well. We are very happy to highly recommend Adena Paint and Caulk, owner/operator John Mitchell.
Description of Work: The initial project was interior house painting ($1,100). In the course of this project we learned that John is extremely handy and after the painting was completed we hired him to do a variety of other projects for us (totaled $650). We believe his prices were reasonable. His workmanship was excellent. He provided accurate estimates and he was on time and on budget. Summary of Painting Job: This project included painting over a lot of previously painted interior woodwork (baseboards, interior window frames and one built in cupboard) in the tiled kitchen and in the carpeted dining room, living room, one bedroom and the entrance hallway. The painting project also included painting two walls in the kitchen (one long and one very short); one living room wall; and the entrance hallway wall. A lot of the project was to cover previously painted dark beige colored woodwork and walls with a more attractive gray (and he did a good job of making sure the old paint color did not show through). Some of the painting was also white/off-white over previously painted white/off-white. Summary of the additional non-painting work performed: A- Removed old caulk from marble tub surround and around the bathtub and replaced it with new caulk. B- We had 3 historic windows which leaked air badly and also were extremely difficult to raise and lower. We had him install "copper spring wire" (which is long, thin, roughly 1-inch wide strips of copper) on the sides of the window jams. The windows no longer leak air and they now move smoothly up and down. C- He obtained and installed security grates for two first floor windows. D- He cleaned out the dryer vent and properly reattached the dryer vent hose to the exterior vent. Future Work That We Plan to Hire Him For: 1- Future additional painting 2 - gutter cleaning 3- poison ivy removal 4- spring and fall yard cleanup (mostly removal of weeds and some trimming).

His pricing was very reasonable and the foyer looks great. John was very professional towards me and my husband.  + -1 moreA very professional job. John provided a written estimate with everying identified on the estimate. It could not have been better. Everything was done when he said it would be done. He and his crew arrived on time, did what they said they would do, and did it right the first time. He corrected many errors the previous contractor failed to correct or identify. Adena's price was most competitive. His quality of work was outstanding. The work area was cleaned at the end of each day. John kept me advised daily as to the progress being made and what he planned to accomplish each day. Communications could not have been better. Adena's pricing was within 6% of the quotes I received. However, Adena used a more expensive paint than others had quoted. Quality is remembered after price is forgotten. I couldn't be happier with the work that was done. I will be using Adena Paint and Caulk for my future painting requirements.
Description of Work: Adena Paint and Caulk corrected the shoddy painting previously done by a different contractor. John Mitchell and crew did drywall repairs, caulking, painting and grouting of bathrooms and garage painting.

 + -1 moreThis is the 2nd time we've used Adena Painting and Caulking, since he did such a great job last time. After we had ceiling repair and retexturing completed, we gave John a call to provide an estimate. He came out within less than a week (which was great since we were in a time-crunch and it was around the holidays) and brought 1 other person with him. He taped off and placed drapes on the walls and other furniture and floors. He even touched up the texturing, just to help it blend in more smoothly. They painted our ceiling in our family room and kitchen (ceiling was continuous in these areas) and he even filled in the caulking between the ceiling and crown molding (which made it look much, much better). They were done with the work in a few hours and we went around with him to double check the carpet, floors, and walls to make sure there were no paint drips (and there were none). The ceiling looked great and we are very happy with the work he did the 2nd time, as well. We would gladly call him again for a painting estimate. Lastly, he is a nice guy, practical, won't recommend something that isn't needed, and gave us all the options (less and more expensive paints and finishes).

 + -1 moreWe found Adena Painting in our neighborhood calendar and then looked him up on the BBB website. Since he had great ratings, we gave him a call. He was responsive to our first call and came out to provide an estimate. He was thoughtful and respected our desire to keep costs to a minimum. We had several areas that were in need of painting- ceiling with old water spots, several walls in several rooms, and our stairwell with has a vaulted ceiling. We also had leftover paint from several years ago, so he inspected the remaining paint and gave us an honest assessment that the old pain was not usable and that it had been watered down significantly by the previous owners. We had several significant scheduling difficulties and while it would have been better to work out a plan sooner, when we did speak to him he was more than willing to perform the work on a weekend. We verified the colors and paint types, and he and his associate, Troy, came promptly at 8am on Saturday and performed the work efficiently and did a great job with painting, repairing, and touching up the walls, trim, and ceiling. Additionally, he was very professional in his demeanor, practical with his assessment of the costs and time, and provided us advice on how to take care of future needs with the paint and other areas of touch up that may be needed. In the course of our discussions, we found out that he also does powerwashing, so before he left he took a look at our home and said he would follow-up with an estimate. Overall, we had a great experience and will gladly call him with any future projects.
