I am thrilled with the results, even if someone stepped in the wet concrete and the workmen had to repair. The demolition material was cleaned up and if you had not seen it you would not know it had been there.

they were honest, fair, responsive, friendly. knowledgeable, professional - just about every adjective one would want in a contractor. The entire experience went smoothly and without stress - I was satisfied with the consultation, the estimates, the interactions, the scheduling and most of all I was very satisfied with the work performed. I would not hesitate to recommend them to my friends.

I purchased Angie?s Deal for a masonry consultation with Utmost Renovations. I received an email response from Mark Huffer (the owner) within 24 hours, and we met with Mark on site within three days. I am very satisfied with the work. I am so glad I found Mark! Mark?s quick response was important because I wanted the chimney and other repairs completed before winter, and it was already October 4. Mark and his crew did a great job, and the work was completed in a timely manner. Mark was professional, easy to talk to, and very engaged with the project. He was very helpful, answered questions, and made good suggestions as we walked around and inspected the house. He provided frequent work updates and was easily accessible by phone, email, and texts. Any concerns I had were addressed immediately. The trim paint color was not the match I expected- -no problem, the painter had the color adjusted to the perfect match. I was very impressed with the work crew on the project. They were professional, courteous, and very NEAT ( no paint splatters or debris on the plants). Mark was also focused on customer satisfaction which made this experience stress free. I am very pleased with the work and highly recommend Mark - Utmost Renovations.

I very much appreciated Mark's prompt response to my inquiry. He came to meet with me as soon as I was available and spent quite a bit of time assessing the brick wall quality providing me with advice on how to best move forward. I never felt that he was trying to sell me more services than were necessary and understood perfectly what my plans for the house were. Mark is a great conversationalist, and I actually enjoyed the meeting. I certainly learned a lot. The proposal came promptly and the price is definitely fair. Mark does have a $500 minimum, however. But in comparison, that money is well spent even if the house itself needed only half of that amount in immediate attention. I decided to wait until the spring to do a more comprehensive restoration of the house, and I very much look forward to working with Mark then.
Description of Work: Mr. Huffer came out to assess the brick structure of my house, consulted me on best approaches to address the issues, and provided me with a written estimate.

Mark was fabulous. I've been working with a lot of contractors lately and he was the only one that truly communicated did what he said he would. He was on time, called frequently, emailed me regular updates, and was wonderful to work with. His prices were reasonable. Brick steps turned out well. I highly recommend him.

The chimney, which had previously had a chimney fire, needed more work than originally expected, but they were able to do it also, for a reasonable additional price, and all the work was done in the same period. The mortar that was replaced matches the old mortar well and was applied with great skill. The workers for our job were true craftsmen and very professional, and also friendly and were careful around our things. Their work improved the beauty of the stonework and the facade of the house. We would definitely recommend this company and would use them again!

It went really well. The team showed up on time and well prepared, and the work took about three days. They invented a really cool protective barrier around the stone on the chimney that worked well with all of the roofing work that needed to be replaced. All in all the project solved the problem within budget and it looks nice to boot.
Description of Work: This was a complex job. Mark and team needed to fix the 'cricket' around the chimney, which had been designed incorrectly and was funneling organic material into crevices for nearly 20 years. There was a significant correction to the underlayment of the roof, then a redesign of the roofing around the chimney. There was a lot of creative engineering involved.

The crew sealed the house, replaced bad mortar between several bricks, refaced bad bricks, caulked and tuck pointed. They also built 2 exterior handrails for our back and front steps. Our crew was great! Everyone is professional, courteous, knowledgeable and wonderful to work with. Their work looks wonderful, and we feel better knowing the house has been treated and that bricks will not deteriorate. Our house was built in 1880, and the caulking and sealing make the exterior looked well maintained. I would highly recommend Utmost Renovations.
Description of Work: Our 1880 brick house had been sandblasted years ago to remove paint, leaving the brick pockmarked and prone to hold water and burst. We also needed caulking along seam lines and tuck pointing on the foundation.

Mark Huffer, the owner of Utmost Renovations was a professional, responsive, and extremely knowledgeable contractor. Being in the German Village Historic District, there are a few hoops you have to jump through before starting any work on your house, Mark was able to walk me through these these steps, and scope the project so the Historic Commission would not object. Work was done timely, and did not exceed original quote even though they ended up doing more work then they anticipated. I would highly recommend Mark and his crew for their outstanding work and professionalism.
Description of Work: Chimney Rebuild - tear down and remove crown and brick on chimney. Relay chimney matching existing profile and dimensions (height, width, etc.) using an historical mortar mix (that has lots of lime in the mix due to age of the masonry) and use only new common brick or a local brick that matches closely as needed, reset crown, and furnish and install new metal flashing, make repairs via re-laying/anchoring loose slate around chimney and/or replacing several pieces of slate as needed. Final clean chimney using low psi pressure washer and water. Bowed Wall, approx. 110 sq. ft. - tear down and remove brick on wall two with the thick around one window at a time, temporarily brace/support wall sections as we work on each half of wall where bowed, salvage and clean off old excess mortar and re-use as much original brick as possible, inspect inside of wall cavity for any structural problems with framing, etc. and notify owner if any unforeseen repairs are needed and provide a change order for any such repairs to be approved by owner prior to proceeding with any such repairs, relay cleaned/salvaged brick and/or some new brick as needed to match existing as close possible if some original brick is beyond re-use using an historical mortar mix and furnish and install new brick/masonry wall ties per code, final clean using low psi pressure washer and water, and clean up daily all job-related debris.

I can honestly say that Utmost Renovations (Mark Huffer) delivered more than what I expected. I was very impressed that the crew stayed until 8 P.M. when applying the thorobond to make sure it was all covered . The chimney texture match to the existing house was virtually perfect. The staff was professional and courteous. They went beyond in covering any areas which would catch any debris and cleaned up after themselves . I can honestly say that Utmost did a great job and Mark Huffer was terrific in being patient with all the questions I had---BUT MOST IMPORTANT WAS HIS QUICK RESPONSE AND HIS FOLLOW THROUGH! Thanks

We were really excited to work with Utmost Renovations and chose them over the company that our insurance carrier suggested. In the end, we were left disappointed and so frustrated that we just wanted it to be done and over with. The main contact was a nice guy but the contracted people he used to do everything were not so great. Things started out ok and the drywall was replaced and patched well after repairing the busted pipe. Then the flooring went down and it looks beautiful! They were installing the floorboards/kickboards around the living room, coat closet, basement and kitchen and this is where the problems started. There were HUGE gaps and after discussion we were told they would putty them and use a matching stain... well, it looked ridiculous and we had to argue with them to replace the floorboards... we are talking 1-3 inch gaps in almost every corner. In the master bathroom, we did a full remodel. They replaced our sink/vanity with a new one. The sink wouldn't drain. They sent in a plumber to fix it and he was able to get it to drain verrrry slowly and called it good. The caulk guy decided to caulk with an almond color caulk in our very light shower and it looked ridiculous, so we had to re-do all of the caulking (we were not asked about color choice, they just chose.. it had previously been clear caulk). The floor tiles they installed were perfect, though, and installed very well, along with new white floorboards. While we were both at work one day, we received a call from our alarm company. We head to the house, along with the police to find that no one was there but there were painting tools sitting by the front door. We later learned that they had scheduled a painter to come re-do the living room ceiling (because there were un-painted spots everywhere), without informing us. The painter somehow opened the door, heard the alarm, dropped his tools in the entry way and left! He never called his boss and he never called us to let us know that was what happened! In the end, everything was completed and I think we were all tired of each other and glad it was over with. We really wanted it to be a great experience for all involved but it was annoying having to argue over things that should have been obvious. I hope things have improved since 2007!
Description of Work: Replaced burst pipe leading to outdoor spicket and all damage related to incident flooding our home. Replaced subflooring, laminate wood flooring and kickboards, interior painting, in basement, living room, and kitchen. Also replaced flooring in upstairs bathroom, then handled the small remodel of that bathroom (re-caulking, painting, replacing sink/vanity, mirror, installed new floorboards and painted.

Response from Utmost Renovations
This project took place six years ago so I am trying to remember all of the details. I do recall that we had issues with the base trim not joined properly at the joints. I believe I had a carpenter fix all of the issues there. I know the laminate and flooring portion went smoothly. I believe we also painted and sealed some water damaged areas. I also know that all of any other issues would have been addressed. This is how I always work with our customers. I would like to comment further but once again this was 6 years ago. Best Regards, Shannon Hill

A very professional job from start to finish. They were very careful to protect furniture, appliances, cabinets and electronics from drywall dust and paint. They also made arrangements so that we could use the room overnight between the two days that they needed to complete the job. The repair and paint look wonderful. The owner/manager and the workers were very pleasant and easy to work with -- very accommodating. This was the first time we used this company, and we will use them again.
