Sent us to the right people for fixture and tile selection. Colors coordinated beautifully. Tear out of old bathroom carried away and cleanup after work each day. Workmen did an excellent job on plumbing, tile work and painting. The new shower door was a real plus.

John and his crew did exactly what they said they would do. We met three times prior to demo starting. Once for John to take a look at my dated kitchen to formulate a quote. Once to show me cupboard/counter top/paint options, and once for his cupboard/cabinet guys to get measurements. Once that was done he called me a couple weeks later and said we can start this comping Monday and it should take a week. They started on a Monday and finished on the next Monday. John and his guys were clean, friendly, polite and approachable. John met me early in the morning everyday before I left for work to discuss any issues and ask/answer any questions. He also communicates well through email/text/ and phone. Desborough Construction made this process as painless as possible. I would suggest him to anyone I know.

It went really well! John and Nate were on the job from start to finish and made us feel comfortable with the full process. At the end of the project we are now left with the master bath that we always wanted. Here are some details: + Planning & Scheduling: It was easy to work with John and his team to build the exact bathroom that we wanted, he was open to our ideas while still letting us know what would work well and what might not -- very helpful to us planning our ideal bathroom + Professionalism: John, Nate and team would be on time every day and were so friendly throughout the day as we were home a lot with a new baby + High quality work: They left us with an absolutely amazing bathroom. Two areas really stand out to us: (1) the tile work is really amazing -- they really did a great job with what I assume is a really tough job (2) the shower is beyond amazing -- they made the shower bigger and created an all glass enclosure with nook and footrest that we really love + Responsiveness: Whenever we had any questions on materials or how things would work, John and team would respond to us very quickly + Cleanliness: They set up 2 air filters every day which really cut down on the dust/disruption which was very important to us because we had a new born. Overall, we are extremely happy with the result and would use Desborough Construction for any future remodeling jobs (this is already the second time we've used them).

I hired Desborough Construction to remodel my condominium. Cosmetic portions of the project: remove wallpaper, repair drywall, paint. Electrical: Install canister lighting and light fixtures. Flooring: Install hardwood flooring throughout condo Bathroom: Complete remodel. Replaced tile flooring, vanity, toilet. Removed tub/shower combo and replaced with walk in shower with beautiful tile detail. I was told the work would take 3 weeks and I was given an estimate. Both were accurate. John Desborough and his co-worker Nate were courteous and professional. They offered suggestions when I asked for them and when I chose a questionable paint color, they contacted me after painting a wall to be sure it was what I wanted. It wasn't what I thought it would be and their proactive questioning saved time and money. I highly recommend Desborough Construction to anyone looking for a quality contractor that takes pride in the work they perform. It was an excellent experience and I am extremely pleased with the results.

John was exceptional on every level. I am in contracting myself and have performed almost every trade myself, so I have a pretty good eye for quality. I was able to source all of the materials myself and have John implement the plan. John not only followed the drawings and instructions closely, but he offered many ideas of his own and improvements on my plans. He has a good eye for design and quality. None of the changes added to my cost. John communicated very well through-out, usually via texts, which was perfect because I have a busy job. John showed up on the agreed-upon day and finished on schedule. We had agreed on a not-to-exceed budget. We had some give and take with reductions in John's scope, but also some adds and improvements. John was very fair and we stayed within budget. John had challenges with performing so much heavy work in a fully occupied building. Many neighbors were difficult to work around, but John handled everyone professionally and courteously. He cleaned up all public areas everyday and left everything clean and tidy. In summation, I could not rate Desborough Construction more highly. His costs are not cheap, but they're fair. Get on his schedule if you can.
Description of Work: Desborough Const. added several new walls, provided new wiring/outlets/fixtures, installed extensive marble tile and wainscotting; new hardwood floors throughout,; new showers, vanities, toilets, etc. John installed two new bathrooms complete and one kitchen. John painted throughout and installed hardwood baseboard and casement throughout, as well as five custom doors.

John was very responsive and professional. He installed a new metal door leading into our basement. The old framing was damaged, so he removed that and put in all new framing and insulation. Excellent job. Cleaned up afterwards, and actually the work area was cleaner than when he arrived. I wasn't able to be there during the actual install, but John kept me up to date throughout the process via text messages. His company provides a full range of construction, building, and remodeling services. I would welcome the opportunity to work with him again.

Response from Desborough Construction Inc
How unfortunate this review is both in the fact thats it's untrue on a multitude of levels and also because it is omitting all the pertinent facts of the situation here. Lets start from the beginning. We agreed on $850 for the job not $500.00 as she has erroneously reported here. Mrs. [Member Name Removed] was in a big hurry for the job to be done as they were going out of town on vacation. We accommodated her and fit her into the schedule immediately with some rearrangement. I explained to her the situation and scheduling of the job would be 3 days as its a straightforward and easy installation. First day would entail installing all the backsplash tile. Day two would be grouting the backsplash. Day three we would return and silicone the countertop where it meets the tile. This is an extra step we go through with all of our tile backslashes to ensure that no water penetrates the seam where the tile meets the countertop. This is something other contractors do not ever do because it requires an additional trip out to the house and therefore they omit this last final finishing touch. So backsplash was grouted day two. Customer called back that evening to state that the rope piece in the backsplash that was an accent tile had grout still on the bead of the rope that was not exposed and they wanted it cleaned off so they could see this bead. I sent a team member back to the house to correct that within the hour at 9:00 P.M. as I never want anyone to be unhappy whatsoever. He arrived with a toothbrush to perfectly clean the grout from the rope tile and they were ecstatic. Again let me reiterate we went back to the house the moment you were unhappy with something at 9:00 P.M. with a toothbrush to fine tune that which you were unhappy with. I don't know of another contractor out there with this level of dedication, attention to detail, or willingness to make a client happy and go to such lengths. Job was completed on time as as promised within 3 days time. You posted your review Oct 7th, 2015 with straight A's in every category. I will verbatim replicate your exact wording: John was very professional and easy to get along with provider. He got my job done in record time since I was going on vacation the next week. I had one little problem with the install which John had the installer immediately return and fix to our liking. He even fixed the walls where we had damaged them when we removed the old backsplash. They are now ready to paint. I walk into my new kitchen and am not sure I am at home. It is beautiful. So in fact we see here that you were 100% satisfied with the installation. It was completed in record time according to your words. A problem was immediately fixed to your liking. And, in fact, we did extra work there for free, as a courtesy that we were not compensated for when I offered to do the drywall repair around the backsplash walls that were not being retiled. So the facts here are record completion time, immediately handled a problem, and did extra work for free as a courtesy to be nice because thats what we do. Now lets proceed to your months later problem. You called me back 5 months later to tell me there was a large crack that developed where the tile meets the countertop something was wrong with the tile. I responded by saying the tile is glued and grouted to the wall it doesn't move its impossible. The granite countertop or cabinetry is moving. I told you to discuss with your granite installer. You did contact him and he acknowledged the cabinetry was not properly fastened to the walls but they installed anyhow? When I inquired about your granite installer and how he templates your project the red flag immediately went up with me. Our granite installer use laser level computerized equipment synced with a laptop that measures all the variables of a job site. An extensive checklist is performed before they certify the job as acceptable for their installation. We had nothing to do with the granite installation on this project or the hiring of that contractor. When you told me they did none of the proper steps during the templating process I knew they were not a reputable company for you to have selected and hired for your project. Since you did not install new cabinetry but only new granite countertops, it is imperative that they make sure all cabinetry is level within 1/8" or less tolerance throughout and obviously the most important step in the equation for them is to verify the cabinetry is connected to the wall wouldn't you think? Again let's be clear here, we were hired as the backsplash installer and nothing else. What we have here is a case of the homeowner being a general contractor and selecting an installer who was not reputable and when they were confronted with a problem they headed for the hills. This is common for a homeowner to experience something like this because you are not familiar with the practices of construction done properly. I would venture to say they had the lowest price and this homeowner in fact got what she paid for. Mrs. [Member Name Removed] acknowledged to me the granite was not installed properly over the cabinetry and asked me to assist in fixing the problem, I declined to be involved in adjusting the granite and or fastening of the cabinetry to the wall now that the granite was installed. Frankly there is a lot of liability there for us to start moving cabinetry and/or granite around to fasten properly after the fact. Mrs [Member Name Removed] offered to pay us for this service as she understood it would not be free. Obviously we would need to be paid for this if we had accepted the work but the bottom line is we declined. Now Mrs. [Member Name Removed] begins to start pressuring me to come over and "fix" the crack between the countertop and the backsplash tile and offered to pay for us to do so as she understood it had nothing to do with our backsplash installation but was, in fact, due to the the cabinets and countertops moving. Currently we are working on a very large, months long build and I was not willing to split a team member off for half a days time to address this problem for her. The bottom line is this problem is the granite installer's problem with the home owner not my problem with the homeowner. Our job was 100% completed 6 months ago and reviewed, once again with straight A's, praising us for record time upon installation, and also for doing additional work for free that we were not compensated for as a courtesy. Mrs. [Member Name Removed] is returning back to work soon from an accident that has prevented her from working for the last year. She jokingly in texts tells me that she has OCD about this countertop crack and has a lot of anxiety over getting this repaired before she goes back to work at the end of April. When I declined her job she became very agitated threatening to get someone else to complete the work. I told her to go ahead and indeed get someone else to complete the job. We are not handymen for hire on call whenever you need us or decide for us to come. We accept or decline projects weekly based on our current work load and job situation frankly. I do not owe you anything on your backpsplash. In fact, again I did more than I was paid for originally just to be a nice guy so you could paint the kitchen before you left for your vacation. This $850 job was always all about you and doing anything and everything you wanted to make you happy. We did that and then some but somehow in the end here that wasn't good enough for you? The fact of the matter here is that you feel as though you can transfer the liability of a poor installation job by your granite installer onto us to fix this. Here's the thing about 2016, everything you said to me is recorded in the text thread between you and I. Your admission of the fact that it wasn't anything to do with our installation. Your request for help fixing others' problems and poor workmanship. Your willingness to pay for me to help you make it right. Your pressure for me to do so. Your agitation at my declining to come and fix the problem at this time. And eventually your "punishment" threat of I will just get someone else to do my bathroom then as well. I courteously told you that your husband could easily fix this problem without paying me or anyone else to do it for you. I explained that all he had to do was remove the grout with a screwdriver, 5 in 1, and/or utility knife. Mix up a small portion of grout and fill the joint to the countertop. Wipe clean with a sponge and thats it. The bottom line here is until the cabinetry is correctly fastened to the wall there is no reason to regrout anything as it will continually crack and fall out because everything is moving. You understand that the cabinets and counters are moving all over the place so why attempt to put a bandaid over that? This does not fix anything. The fact of the matter here is that when I declined to help you with this situation you became upset and therefore left a negative review of us portraying us as not finishing your job. We both know the job was finished long ago and to perfection your words not mine. We have roughly 150 straight A reviews for members who have actually hired us to do a job for them and then your 1 negative review as a member who hired us to do something. Are we to believe that we did it perfectly straight A's for all the other 150 members and then just did yours wrong for the first time for no reason? Angie's List members are very intelligent, highly educated people who will read between the lines here in a heartbeat. They will not be fooled one bit. This forum is based on honestly and without it simply doesn't work. You are doing every member here a disrespect with leaving such a review and omitting all the pertinent facts. Your review has been 100% discredited isn't it time for you to be honest with the forum about whats really going on and apologize to them for this misleading review? I am more than happy to share our text thread with anyone to review and read for themselves. Honesty is best

We needed a quick turn around because we wanted to move in asap. John accommodated our time frame by putting extra men on the job and working long hours. We are very pleased with the result. This was our fourth time using Desborough Construction. We did a 1250 sq ft basement refinish with full kitchen and bedroom, rebuilt a three season room, built a roof over or rear entry (which matched our house perfectly) previous to this painting project. We have always been extremely happy with the results. I already have several more projects in mind for the near future where I plan to call John at Desborough construction.

We are very happy repeat customers of Desborough Construction! John remodeled our kitchen, family room, powder room and dining room in a previous remodel. He recently remodeled our bathroom. John and his staff are hard workers and intelligent problem solvers. I am very picky about the finished carpentry and I think their work is perfection! John will not leave the job until you are completely happy with the outcome and they do it right the first time. I've never had to call them back to fix something. I have a great deal of respect for John and his staff and it was a pleasure having them in my home.

John Desborough and his crew at Desborough Construction, Inc. recently completed a fireplace/family room makeover at my house. They took a dingy area and converted it into a masterpiece. This company's attention to detail was beyond anything I would have ever imagined. We love our new room! I highly recommend Desborough Construction, Inc. I cannot say enough about their expertise and professionalism. John had some wonderful ideas to make my vision a reality and it exceeded my expectations!

John was very professional from the time we first met to describe the project through the completion of the project. He and his crew were pleasant and always kept the work area clean. The work included replacing an existing vanity and sink, replacing a toilet, replacing a fiberglass tub with a new jetted tub and surrounding tiled deck, replacing fiberglass shower stall with a tiled shower with built-in niches, installing a tile floor, and replacing standard windows with a glass block window. Throughout the project, John checked with me to ensure that the project was going as planned and met my expectations. The room turned out beautiful! I would use John again without hesitation and would highly recommend him.

John is one of the most professional and conscientious contractors I have ever met. He was prompt when he came out to give me an estimate and he was prompt when the work began. My backsplash tile was installed by Rob, who did a meticulous job even when working with tiles that turned out to be a little thinner than usual. I was a little nervous about doing this project, but John was very helpful with his suggestions and put me at ease. The cleanup after the job was perfect. John even went out of his way to find a product for me to use on my countertop that really made it shine. He is someone who truly wants his customers to be completely satisfied and happy with his work. He is very honest and I would highly recommend him to anyone looking to do a kitchen project.

The whole job went very smoothly without any problems. John let me know when the door came in and set up a time to start the job. He started on Saturday and finished the job on Monday. At the end of the day on Saturday they made sure the door was functional and could be locked securely. John and his crew were very nice to deal with and very professional. They tried to keep the dust and mess to a minimum. I plan to have John remodel a powder room and bathroom in the spring.

John and his team were very professional, courteous, and really good at their jobs. They were very conscientious about cleaning up at the end of the day and trying to not disrupt our days. john said it would take 2 weeks plus the glass installation and that's what it took. John also provided suggestions when I asked for them and was willing to make changes that could be made if I wanted to. Rob did most/all of the tile setting and grouting work and it is beautiful. Everyone helped on cutting the tiles and other details. Nate did the plumbing work and other odds and ends (they both worked on the demo) and talked me through placement of fixtures, etc. My only frustration was that it took a while to get on the schedule. Part of that was on me as I needed to make some decisions. But when you're good, your schedule is busy. The price was a bit higher than others, but John itemizes everything so there is no surprise. While I would like a lower price (who wouldn't) it would not keep me from hiring John again. That said I would hire John and his team for anything I need done. In fact we've started talking about the next projects. You can't go wrong with John. This is now probably the nicest room in my house!

Best way to describe the work is John turned my so so house into a dream home, everyone who visits can't believe the transformation. We had several contractors quote the work and the selling point for me was Johns experience and ability to point out ideas and after talking for more than hour, a week later he remembered in detail what we discussed and had a quote spelled out and was very honest. As our project moved along we added more projects and John quickly ordered and adjusted his work flow and we could not have made a better decision on who performed the work on our house. They showed up every day around the same time and put in more than a days hard work. Also explained what they will be working on the next day, and cleaned up after themselves every day. John even did some finishing touches to my stairs leading to my basement that wasn't part of the deal. More than happy in Perry ? Thanks John and your crew Rob Musilek

The work was done in a very professional manner, with great attention to detail. The new bathroom and shower stall make it seem as though I am in a spa. In doing the work, they kept everything as neat as possible, and always cleaned up at the end of each workday. Excellent craftsmanship. The entire crew was pleasant and easy to work with. The one minor flaw I discovered after they werre done, was corrected almost immediately. I would not only use them again, I recommend them very highly.
Description of Work: Complete demolition and rebuild of bathroom.

Workers were professional and timely with the work performed. workers and owner were very flexible with my schedule including days I could not have work performed at the house. It was a pleasure to have John and his crew perform the work. This is the second project I have had Desborough construction perform at the house and will continue to use them for future remodeling needs.
Description of Work: Provider repaired walls and ceilings in the kitchen and dining rooms, installed light fixtures, receptacles, ceiling fans, closet doors, (in multiple rooms and general areas) front and back interior and exterior doors (screen). Crown molding was installed in all rooms except the bedrooms. Bay window floor area was addressed with the installation of a window seat and built in storage area. Mantle over fire place was also addressed. All add ons were performed as requested with change requests being priced accordingly. The entire interior house was painted including the basement stairwell.

I left a voicemail message and John Desborough responded within one day to set an appointment for an estimate. He is punctual, professional and very personable. I had a written estimate within a couple of days. I wanted to purchase the molding and paint it myself prior to installation. Not only was he willing to work with me on that, he bought and delivered the molding a couple weeks ahead of installation, so I had plenty of time to paint it at my convenience. Once we agreed on an install date, he arrived on time, did a beautiful job and left the job site clean and ready for my final coat of paint. Someone I know once quoted John Desborough as saying, "I may not be the cheapest, but they won't be disappointed." I would recommend Desborough Construction to anyone.
Description of Work: Installed crown molding in living room and entry foyer / hallway. Approximately 100 linear feet.

If I had to do it all again, I'd never go anywhere else. John and his team are the very best around. Beyond my expectations in every way. We did a total remodel of the kitchen, hardwood floors throughout the entire first floor, painting of everything from ceiling down - just a brand new house! The quality is phenomenal. the attention to detail, better than even I could have and the result is absolutely gorgeous. The kitchen is better than I could imagine, the floors are gorgeous, the painting is just beautiful. John and his crew just finished our total remodel and all I want to do is sit and stare at my house - MY HOUSE! I can't believe it is the same home. John and the guys addresses any and all questions I had. There were no "hidden" elements and fees. I was worried, as many of my friends have had work done and have been presented with an additional "oh by the way" bill in the end. Not with John. He is so good at what he does, he knows what to do and what it costs. I appreciated his and the crew's advice when I asked for suggestions, such as with the way the hardwood floors should be set. Just gorgeous! They are meticulous and perfectionists and my house is literally stunning! They concentrated on my work and got it done very quickly - not like some companies that do a little work here and there every day. I was top priority until the work was done! I got estimates from others that were almost twice the cost (and snotty replies when I declined their service) and couldn't be more happy. I'd be glad to be a reference for anyone that wants to consider Desborough Construction for any work.
