It didn't.
Description of Work: Really disappointed in the lack of response after waiting for an estimate appointment and spending time with John on a Saturday morning. I'd rather he respond that they don't want the work than just ignoring my inquiry and never providing an estimate.

Description of Work: Desborough Construction was hired to remodel my basement. The contract I signed was very detailed, listing each step involved in the project, as well as the materials to be supplied. The remodeling entailed removing the existing paneling and floor tile in the main room and stairwell. The block walls were treated with bleach to kill mold and then painted with a waterproofing sealer. New walls and doors were framed in as well as a closet area to hide the water meter. New wiring was installed for outlets, switches, and the recessed lights in the ceiling. The walls and ceiling were then drywalled, primed, and painted. Ceramic tile was installed on the floor and stairs. New doors and hardware were also furnished. A recessed area in a wall was turned into a beautiful built-in TV niche. The workers showed up on time and worked hard throughout the day, sometimes staying late into the evening and working on Saturday. They were professional and cleaned up the work area each day. I was very pleased with the results. All aspects of the contract were fulfilled. My family will enjoy the transformed basement for years to come. I highly recommend Desborough Construction for any home remodeling project and I look forward to working with them in the future.

Hi [member name removed], When you are ready for your service to be performed you as a member contact us. We do not call you on the Big Deal coupon offers or the other plans offered on our store front. We have found people to sometimes feel as though we are pressuring them by contacting them first. All you have to do is contact us at 440.259.1050. Or you can contact us through our website at desboroughconstruction.com to begin your quote information online. I do remember your name and the fact that you were a Perry resident since this is a small community we live in together. Call me direct on my cell phone at 440.346.3628 and let me know what you purchased and I will immediately issue you a refund check. If you would have contacted me to let me know you were ready to talk in the first place we could have avoided all of this. Hopefully you find another service provider that can better meet your expectations. Good luck to you on your remodel. Thank you

I took measurements and pictures of this job site with the member and her husband at the end March. Six calendar days later I left for spring break with my family for some time away. Member did indeed email me with a link to something pertaining to their job. I did not begin working on their estimate before I left as I was completing other tasks before them. Member did not contact me again. Today we are in route home from our vacation and this review comes in. I do not understand these reviews previously or now. Never was I contacted by the member to inquire about status of their estimate at all. Currently our accepted job board is 8 clients deep. Easily at any time this becomes 10 or even 12. That means all of these people are ahead of you waiting patiently for our services. Being that we are the highest rated contractor in Cleveland on Angie's List out phone rings daily with not only Angie's List members but all of our other clients, referrals, and advertising avenues. We are a highly personalized owner operated company that takes extraordinary pride in what we do. Time and time again clients we are actually contracted to work for and have worked their way through the process with us say the same things: on time, on budget, do what they say they are going to do when they say they would do it, went above and beyond contract at no additional expense, so on and so forth. Remodeling is not an easy endeavor to do professionally. It takes time to work your way through not only the bidding process but also the procurement of materials, staging, and eventual placement onto the work schedule. I understand clients' excitement and wishes to begin their projects but there is lead time associated with this work. We systematically work our way through every client one at a time. I will not sacrifice quality or customer satisfaction to get to the next job. Ultimately my name is on the shirt of every team member on site meaning the buck stops with me. I am not in any hurry to start anyone's job before it is time. You would not want me to run out the door on you if we were doing your job so pay that same respect to those that are before you. Good things come to those who wait. I have never had one single unhappy client who contracted us to do their job in nearly 20 years in this business. There has never been a single lawsuit, never been a non paying customer. There has never been any shenanigans of any sort. The bottom line is this, we do it right, every time, like we were working at our own homes if you can work your way through the procedure with us ultimately you will be ecstatic just the hundreds that have come before you. If this does note meet with you time expectations then you will need to move on to another service provider or vendor that can more appropriately meet your time frame. I will be returning this members design fees as we have not done the work that was paid for. I do not take any money from anyone for something that was not completed. Good luck to you on your renovation project.

Description of Work: I received an estimate from this company. Everything about that experience was excellent. The owner of the company was very open to my suggestions and set up a plan to include everything I wanted in a kitchen for a fair price. I did not follow through with my kitchen remodel for financial reasons which were not related to the company. When I am ready to have my kitchen remodeled I will definitely contact them.

John Desborough and his crew took our dark, boxy 70’s style kitchen and brought it in to the 21st century, and we are very pleased with the results. This was an extensive project that involved demolishing the original kitchen down to the studs and taking down one wall and modifying another. John also renovated the bathroom, foyer and closets. From beginning to end John was accessible and responded to phone calls and emails in a timely manner. When on the job, he and his crew worked quickly and efficiently without sacrificing quality. Despite careful planning, our project was not without some unforeseen problems, but John was quick to respond with a can-do attitude, and he resolved these problems without causing any major delays or significant increase in costs. John is very customer oriented. If we were not satisfied with some aspect of the project he was willing to make appropriate changes. John and his crew were punctual and hardworking, and their good nature made them a pleasure to have around. All in all our renovation was a very positive experience. Where we once had a dark, cramped kitchen, we now have an area that feels spacious, and is light, bright, and more functional. In sum, John was very professional, efficient, kept costs down and quality up, and he was a pleasure to work with.
Description of Work: Total kitchen remodel. Also remodeled bathroom and foyer including coat closet and utility closet, and designed/built new stair banister. Installed new trim and painted living room and dining room.
Everything Desborough did is excellent top shelf work, everything installed is extremely well fitted, finished completely, and rock-solid-built/installed-to-last. As John & his crew demonstrated his craftsmanship on the Kitchen we kept signing him up to do more, rip out a wall, install the laminate flooring, resurface the ceilings, and finally completely redoing the bathroom. Started as scheduled, finished on schedule. Work very well with my wife (and I) to address issues and enhance the overall remodel. John also works to keep the costs under control. Best of all, the wife loves the work that John Desborough & his crew did. We both highly recommend this contractor. He will be our go to guy for anything we need in the future.
Description of Work: John Desborough and his crew did several jobs for us. Total kitchen, total bathroom, general remodel of dining room, ceiling lighting, and installing laminate flooring throughout, painting, and ceiling texturing and painting. Total Kitchen - cabinets, sink, plumbing, dishwasher, over-range microwave oven (vented to the outside), new lighting in ceiling, over sink & under cabinets, extra electrical outlets, and switches, new flooring, ceiling fans (vented to the outside). Removed wall, blended, and finished. Everything build rock solid. Total Bath - total tear-out, and reinstall, whirlpool tub, vanity, sink, medicine cabinet, lights, ceiling fan, resurface ceiling, toilet. The job on the ceramic tile throughout the tub area and floor is exceptionally installed and is beautifully finished.

Everything was very professional. John and his crew were always on time, very neat and completed the job in a timely manner, and as was specified without trying to sell me something extra that I did not want.
Description of Work: Totally remodelled kitchen and bath.
I had looked for about one year to find the right person to remodel my kitchen. My husband’s impending knee replacement surgery jump started my search as our first floor bathroom needed major work, and I turned to Angies list. Remodeling the bathroom and putting in a shower was not a simple task as it required encroaching on bedroom space, putting in a new wall, and dealing with the less than square measures of a century home. From my perspective, the perfect contractor would be honest (we can do business on a hand shake), have a business head, be highly skilled, and as a bonus have an artful eye. Finding all four qualities is precisely what I found in Desborough Construction's owner, John. He is totally up front with his customers, treats his customers the way he would want to be treated and even passes on discounts that he garners from being a good businessman. He is organized, is a master at time management, and hires people like himself, very skilled and hard working. I found John's work of the highest quality. Since we were heavily engaged with getting ready for surgery, John had little oversight from us; however, he was able to problem solve and work around “century home” issues on his own and delivered a product far beyond our expectations. I thought the initial $8875 estimate was a very reasonable considering all the special issues plus the unexpected that always arise in century homes. I threw John several curve b**** as there was considerable scope creep initiated by me that added both time and expense to the project which I was happy to assume; however, I know it put additional pressure on John’s master schedule. Even so, he was always good natured and accommodating about my change orders offering advice and insights from his professional experience. When my husband came home from the hospital earlier than expected, John accommodated us in every respect and worked extra hours to ensure the house was ready for his rehab. John definitely has an artistic eye, and he provided some “extras” that I never even thought of at no cost that really added to the beauty of the final product. The tiling work was particularly beautiful. Most important for any company is the ability to garner repeat business. I would most certainly highly recommend Desborough Construction, but please do not call until John comes back and remodels my kitchen.
Description of Work: Original Work: Bathroom remodel 1.Frame in additional wall approximately 7' long by 40" wide in bedroom adjacent to the current bathroom 2.Remove plaster walls on exterior of current bathroom as necessary to allow for plumbing installation. 3.Rough in new water supply lines both hot and cold to the new shower valve for the shower. 4.Connect newly roughed in water supply lines in the basement at this location indicated during our discussion in the basement. 5.Install new shower valve of choice. 6.Install acrylic 36" wide shower stall unit with shower base pan and modular locking wall unit to complete. (this was the original design, but per my change orders (see below), we tiled the shower (36"x42") plus the bathroom floor at an additional cost of $1,600.00 for labor) 7.Connect new shower pan drain in the basement with trap to the PVC rough in stubout 8.Remove the current bathroom door, door jamb, and molding into the half bath to allow the two rooms to flow into one another more easily. 9.Remove existing toilet, vanity, sink, and faucet. 10.Remove existing multiple subfloors to allow for new subfloor installation that will bring the two rooms flush with one another for tile installation. 11.Remove existing paneling in the half bath area. 12.Rough in electrical for the new shower area to include two light switches for a fan/light combo. 13.Remove the current acoustical ceiling tiles as nicely as possible for reuse. (This was done seamlessly!!) 14.Rough in electrical for floor heating system tile mat.(subfloor heating unit) Note: Even though John does “mud work”, I had already contracted a plasterer to complete the plastering for the bathroom remodel as well as another portion of my house and so that work was not part John’s final product. My change orders which were not part of the original estimate which John priced out very reasonably and worked it into his busy schedule. 1. Installed a tile shower (more expensive, but what I needed) instead of an insert as the shower room I settled on was an odd size 2. Installed a new electrical box to accommodate the electrical for floor heating system tile mat and impending kitchen remodel

He arrived on time for his appointment to quote on the job. He found a supplier for the door we wanted - slightly different from what we had seen at Home Depot. He ordered the doors and let us know when they would be in. Installation took somewhat longer than expected due to the condition of the framing around the doors. They wound up doing additional work and supplied additional materials to fit the doors properly into the home. They cleaned up carefully and thoroughly, and disposed of all the old doors, trim, framing, etc. I have already accepted another quote for them to do additional work for us. Obviously, I would definitely hire them again.
Description of Work: Removed two screen/storm doors and two entry doors. Replaced both entry doors and one screen/storm door.
