It went really well. They were very professional. They left things clean and neat and I would recommended them.
Description of Work: They removed my shower faucet and replaced it with a new one. They had to break out the tile to put in the new faucet and then retile the bathroom wall.

We reviewed several contractors online and set up appointments with two. We met with John and presented our ideas. He was very easy to talk to and had many additional design suggestions. He provided us with a very timely and reasonable quote. He estimated that the job would take approximately one week. Our house has only one bathroom, but John assured us that he could make it usable at the end of each workday. The first day, John and Rob arrived on time. John had also arranged to have his plumbing specialist available if he was needed. As it turned out this was a wise decision. After discovering some underlying plumbing issues, the team worked quite late that first evening to make sure the bathroom would be usable as promised. The work progressed quite well throughout the week with each day showing substantial progress. During the renovation and remodeling process John continued to suggest various ideas that might make the overall job better. These suggestions dealt with both structural and aesthetic concerns. By the end of the week after a few more long days, the job was mostly complete and we just awaited the delivery of the custom made glass block window. During this entire process John, Rob and their team were always completely professional and very considerate of our personal space. We could not be more pleased with the final outcome. It was a pleasure to work with individuals who are both artists and craftsmen.
Description of Work: Complete remodeling of bathroom: new tile floor, new shower and bathtub enclosure, replaced window with glass block, new toilet, new electrical outlet and switches, installed new mirror, lighting fixtures and cabinet, exhaust fan ducted outside and repaired and painted walls and installed new moldings.

I could tell from the start John was very competent. He initially spent an hour at my house, assessing the job and offering suggestions. He came back with a very detailed estimate that covered everything we talked about. Once the job started, there was always an attention to cleanliness. Additionally, I only have one bathroom, and I was able to use it every night during the job. They also kept to the time frame established up front, which was great. I am fully satisfied.
Description of Work: John and his crew remodeled my bathroom, and they did a great job. They are extremely hard working, with an attention to detail. They completely gutted my bathroom, and built a new one. The end result is nicer than I had imagined. Additionally, John helped me with suggestions on layout and materials, which really made the process easier. The craftsmanship is top notch.

It took contacting the company twice and threatening to ask Angie's list for my money back before I got a response and an appointment. The day of the appointment, the person was over an hour late. In the middle of doing the review, he took a personal call that was not an "emergency" and chatted in front of me for over 5 minutes. He did tell me he worked with Home Depot, but I did not think it would take more than a week after the meeting to get an email and then a paper copy based on sale prices good for a limited time and the estimate be on their sample invoice. Also, there were specific details not included from the meeting we had in person. I am very glad I didn't spend more than 50 dollars for someone to come out and do no more than this gentleman did. It certainly was not worth the $300 value the ad claimed it was.

John and his crew did an excellent job removing the old kitchen and half bath, repairing the walls, electrical and plumbing and re-installing the new floors, cabinets, windows and lighting. The work went as scheduled. They cleaned up the work areas at the end of each day. They were very thorough in every detail and making sure I was satisfied at every stage of the re-model.

After we complained the contractor made an effort to make up for the poor service. He sent us some very nice drawings and refunded our money.
Description of Work: The contractor was slow to respond. When he did respond the work was very good. It is too bad we had to file a negative report to get the service we paid for.

Response from Desborough Construction Inc
I am unbelievably surprised by this report. Starting at square one, our appt. was for 5:00 p.m., I arrived ten minutes early. I knocked on the door with no one answering. I called the house twice with nonanswer and then proceeded to leave a message stating I was here and that I would waitnforna little while to see if someone shows up. I waited until nearly 6:00 in the drivewaynwaiting for the customer to arrive on a Friday night no less. Then customer's son happen to be driving by at close to 6:00 and stopped when he saw me. The son statedbthat he livedbaroundnthe corner. I told him that I had an appt. with his parents at 5:00. He said needed to reschedule because they couldn't keep the appt and they had called me to do so on my cell phone. I never received any phone call or message saying anything that day about a cancellation or a rescheduling asbtheirnson had claimed. Either way that was irrelevant to me. The son let me in and I proceeded to take the measurements. Inhad then plans drawn up from Home Depot for their cabinetry quote. This took about 10 days from our appt. as the designer I work with was on vacation when I sent her the measurements. Once I hadbthenplans back, I mailed those plans through USPS mail as I always do the estimate enclosed. I never heard anythingnbackmfrom the customer on this estimate but that does happen as no one is ever awarded every single job they quote. Suddenly today then I get this negative review and Inwas blown away. I have never had a bad report in my life for any of our projects. I am resending out the customer's plans tomorrow with a reprint of their kitchen plans. I will also be refunding the customer's $50.00 fee formthis kitchnen deal. Imreally can't believe this has happened because of a lost piece of mail that the customer did not receive. Again I apologize for this but I wish they would have contacted me again and Incould have explained that the plan was alreadynsentnout and that I would have had another set of plans reprinted and sent out right away. I wouldnhave to hope that the 25 other straight "A" reports would accurately represent whatntypenof company and work we do. I hope this customer accepts my apology but I do think we couldnhave resolved this without. Them leavingnthisndamaging report for me. I wish them luck withbtheir kitchen remodel with whomever they award their project to and maybe the kitchen plan we createdbfor them will be of help when they receive the reprinted second copy this weeknalong their refund check. Good luck to you, John Desborough.

John and his group were timely and professional. John went beyond the original scope of work by including several shelves that were not part of the original quote. John communicated with me on each stage of the job and informed me of any delays we "might" incur I would highly recommend John for any similar work and plan on using his services to finish the rest of the basement.
Description of Work: Multiple tasks were performed including switching the direction of the stairs to the basement, framing and finishing half of the basement with red ceder, a change out of the main electrical service box, multiple fixture installations, as well as door installation on two closets and the main room entrance.

John and his crew wasted no time and began the remodel on 8/11/2011 removing all old cabinets, appliances, countertops, etc. They showed up on time, everytime, and worked hard to get the job done. John took his time explaining everything to us and went above and beyond to meet our needs and expectations. Any questions we had, he answered in a timely manner. The communication with John was the best we have ever had with any contractor. John and his crew cleaned up the kitchen and garage after each day they worked, leaving the space spottless. Everything was completed within 3 weeks, and turned out amazing! We could not be any happier with the final product. We would without a doubt hire John and his crew again for any future updates to the house.
Description of Work: Removed old kitchen cabinets, sink, faucet, dishwasher, countertops and breakfast bar overhang. Installed new kitchen cabinets, dishwasher, faucet, garbage disposal, disconnected and reconnected all plumbing, touched up any paint , lighting under cabinets, reinstalled existing countertops temporarily and hooked up sink and faucet until granite arrived.

We bought a new stove with a double oven below the range top. The stove was at a 90 degree angle to our existing dishwasher in a corner of the kitchen. The handle on the new lower oven door did not allow the door on our dishwasher to fully open without first opening the oven door to the floor. We liked the new double oven and decided to move the dishwasher. John Desborough was very professional in recognizing and dealing with problems involving the plumbing, countertop and ceramic tile. He gave us a detailed estimate of the work he would perform. The move was done by his crew in one day with little disruption to our household. John came back a second day to do the new sink faucet and and garbage disposal. Finishing and cleanup done each day. The project went great from beginning to end.
Description of Work: Removed countertop and switched places for dishwasher with sink and two kitchen cabinets including disconnect and reconnect of all plumbing. Installed new sink faucet and garbage disposal purchased by owner. Installed vinyl and wood moulding to give area finished look.

.All in all I would say that they did a good job. Some of the tiles here and there are not perfect. A lot of this kind of a job is not going to be perfect. Only in the upstairs bathroom is there a noticeable difference in the tile. That bothers me a little bit. But that is going to happen. There was a time line and they were able to get the work done before we were to move in. That was excellent. But I do believe that we ended up paying them a bit more money to get them to complete in our time line. We could have probably done it cheaper if we did not have such a strict time line. All in all they did a good job in the time allotted. They also had to re-set the toilet and it did not fit well. Something was wrong with it. I called the owner John Desborough and he came and did it himself and we have not had an issue with it since. He did not charge us for that. That was nice that he came and fixed the toilet for us. I think I would look around the next time and compare pricing because I think pricing wise they were asking a lot more than several of the other estimates that I got.
Description of Work: . I used Desborough Construction Inc to rip out old tiles and put in new tiles in the kitchen. They also tiled over floor tiles in my bathroom, fixed a toilet and put in a gas line for us.

From the estimate and proposal drawing phase through to completion, John and his crew dealt with us very professionally. From a customer service standpoint, you couldn't ask for a better experience. He and his workers did a great job at each stage of the process. They turned a dreary basement into a terrific room to entertain or just hang out. There were a couple of especially creative solutions that John came up with to bring a working sink and bar to our basement since we previously had neither running water nor a drain in the basement. Two things stood out during the job: 1) John had great attention to detail. We could tell that he wanted us to be thrilled with the result. 2) He was flexible with us along the way as we changed the plans during the project. Overall, we are extremely happy with the way things turned out. The job ended up finishing under budget and right on schedule. It was a pleasure doing business with Desborough Construction and I would highly recommend them to anyone.
Description of Work: Desborough Construction (John) transformed part of the basement of our ranch home into a beautiful family room and bar. The installation included framing, drywall, plumbing, electrical, painting, woodworking, flooring installation, and cabinetry.

The wet weather we've had this year changed a 4 or 5 day job into a 3 week job however, it is now complete. Everything looks great, John's crew cleaned up after themselves well. They did most of the work while my wife and I were at work. The couple of times our paths crossed, I observed them to be professional. My wife and I intend to use them again for additional projects.
Description of Work: The scope of work was a complete rehab of my 13 year old wooden deck. Several boards needed replaced as did the stairs. We originally wanted to demolish the deck and replace it with a new composite deck. After a review with John, he advised structurally the deck was sound. The few warped boards and the stairs could be a replaced and a polymer finish, Restore, could be applied. The cost was about 1/3 the price of a replacement. Additionally we had him install a gravel bed under the deck and a lattice skirt around it.

John's crew started on May 16 with demolition. That went very fast and only took a day. The crew showed up each day on time and were real pros. They asked questions at all the right stages to make sure we were on the same page as how we wanted things to look. We did a wainscot with tile around the entire bath with a nice border. We discussed tile layout beforehand to make sure it worked with the fixtures. I had the sink and vanity on-site and ready for install so we could be sure that the tile height was correct around the sink. John's crew worked well together. One cut tile as the other worked the layout and put the tiles in place. You could tell this was not their first rodeo. They knew exactly what needed to be done and in what order. Any issues I had brought up with John during construction were addressed the very next day. We had very good communication with the entire crew. The bath was finished on June 1st. It took just 2.5 weeks even with Memorial weekend in the mix. At the end of the job, John and his crew cleaned up the garage that was used as a staging/work area and hauled away all the construction debris. The results are great. We could not be more happy with the end product. The bath turned out fabulous and we have had many compliments. We would hire John again without hesitation.
Description of Work: We had our downstairs half bath and garage entry remodeled. The bath was 35 years old and needed everything redone. Basically, the entire bath was gutted and replaced. John's crew replaced the toilet, sink, vanity, lighting, floor, ceiling fan, and doors and tiled and repainted the walls. We received several estimates and John's was the best. I supplied the toilet, sink, vanity, lighting, bath door (that matched other doors in the house) and tile. John supplied everything else needed to get the job done - paint, mastic, grout, electrical wiring/boxes, drywall supplies, door trim and molding, etc.

We used John's company a few years ago to remodel our bathroom from top to bottom. He was great--very courteous, professional, and considerate of our schedules. We hired him again for our basement because of the excellent work he did with our bathroom. Although he was swamped with other projects, he still found a way to fit us into his schedule. The work was done quickly and professionally, and he worked with us to keep everything within our budget. I highly recommend him for any household project!

John Desborough and Rob competed the gutting of the 3 shower walls (after I chose to remove about 3/4 of the drywall and tiles the night before to save time). John studied the leak in order to arrive at the best and most cost-effective solution. He ended up replacing pipe and re-welding it to the valve. At the same time raising the height of our showerhead as it had been lower than average. I thought this was very thoughtful. He tested everything himself and I thoroughly tested his work again before me to assure it was bone-dry. They took great care to cut the mold and mildew resistant shower wallboard and tiles outside in extremely cold temperatures. John even repaired and repainted damaged drywall beyond the shower area that had been damaged due to the leak. Had I tried to do all of this myself, it would have taken more time and money without looking as good or done as well. They took on a demanding job and made it look easy...true professionals. The quality and craftsmanship are excellent. Our friends and family love our shower, especially the recessed shelf. Two thumbs up!

A+ to Desborough Construction! I wanted to expand a small loft in my home; turn it into a bedroom with a closet. John was a great resource with ideas. The job exceeded my expectations. Outstanding quality, great price, and done on time. Also, he worked with my family's busy schedule, with minimal disruption to our lives. I was amazed at the attention to detail. It looks so natural, like it was originally built that way. One of the strengths was making the new area fit into the look of the house. I can't say enough positive about Desborough Construction, and would definitely use again.

John and his crew turned our 1991 mauve and gray master bath into a gorgeous one right out of a decorator magazine. We cannot say enough good things about John and his eye for detail, design and professionalism. The project took approximately 5 1/2 weeks from start to finish but must say that about a week of that was just waiting on the fabrication of the shower walls and granite countertops. John and his crew were a pleasure to work with and top notch professionals. We will definitely call John for any of our future projects.
Description of Work: Total gutt of master bath. Rerouted electric, plumbing and heating duct. Installed porcelain tile on floor, throughout shower area and on tub deck. Retextured ceiling and painted ceiling and walls. Installed new vanity, toilet, air bath, granite countertop, sinks, faucets, mirrors, vanity lights, bath fan/light, new light switches, ceiling rain shower head and handheld shower, glass shower walls, towel bars, etc. Cost above includes all materials and labor.

Our condominium looks like new! I can hardly recognize it compared to what it looked like before. Mr. John Desborough was friendly and very helpful from start to finish. He assisted us in choosing the right color choices based on our desired effect and his previous experiences. We also had him take a walk-through before he started to recommend what we needed to do to update our condo in terms of what should be repaired/ updated. John and Rob were awesome! They 'hit the ground running'. They carefully moved furniture and household items, were dilgent in using drop cloths to cover furniture and flooring, cleaned-up after themselves as they moved along the condo and at the end of each day. They asked us to carefully look over our condo to let them know if any touch-ups were needed throughout. They went that extra mile to please us. They even cut out a large piece of drywall in our bathroom, that was damaged by water, surfaced and replaced it. Their professionalism was excellent. They went over the entire condo (ceiling, walls and trim) before finishing the job to make sure every last inch was done and they left us with a smile. We feel lucky to have found a contracter with a personal touch who takes pride in his work and does it with a smile on-time (5 days) for WAY less than I expected. I've already recommended him to friends and relatives and consider John's contracting company the only one I'd call to repair and remodel our condo.
Description of Work: The interior of our 1,300 square feet condominium in Willoughby, OH was painted to include: all interior walls, doors, ceiling and trim. Our utility room was also painted and they remounted and reinforced an old cabinet stretching the length of the wall above our washer and dryer. Our towel rods were also remounted after repairs were made to our drywall and a new mirror we bought for the bathroom was mounted. All outlet covers and heat register covers were also replaced.

John was very professional when he came out and gave me a estimate for the job. He kept in contact and if I e-mailed him I had a reply within the hour. They were scheduled for two days to do the job but finished it it one. They did extras I did not expect (painting soffet that was not on my current list, but was needed, vacuumed the carpet and put the furniture back. I expect to use them again for other jobs that we need done. Nice job!
Description of Work: John's company painted our ceiling and living room which is a lofted ceiling.
