Let me start off by saying that Ernie is a stand up guy, He cares about his business and wants things done right. Very straight forward and easy to deal with. There were some problems on the job. When the crew showed up to hang drywall I had a building permit, a completely insulated ceiling, a reasonably clean kitchen and some lights up in the garage. When the crew left at the end of the day that had all changed. The building permit that was in the window disappeared never to be found. Ernie had asked the crew to not take down the plastic separating the kitchen from the addition until they had hung as much drywall as possible and swept up. The plastic came down in the middle of the job before any sweeping had been done. Dust and dirt blew thru the kitchen into the rest of the house. Thirdly, several pieces of insulation that had been stapled in the ceiling ended up on the floor. I discovered where some had been removed and replaced them. Others were not so obvious. Ernie contacted the crew and had the foreman come out to identify where the pieces came from and replace them. Those sections ended up torn into little pieces stuffed in an interior wall. Lastly, when I put the lights back up in the garage one had been taken off the wall with a crowbar and had to be beaten back into shape. Ernie did his best to straighten things out and refunded a significant amount of money to help make things right. The finishing crew did an excellent job. The finish was almost perfect with a lot of angles and weird corners. The ceiling guy was amazing. Again a beautiful finish with a difficult geometry to work with. Overall I was happy with the work. I felt increasingly bad each time that I called Ernie to fill him in on the next problem with the hanging crew. It felt like some bizarre water torture. It is my understanding that Ernie is no longer using that crew.
Description of Work: Hang drywall in new addition. Rough finish garage. Normal finish interior. Knock down ceiling.

This is the third time I have had Ernie do work for me and I would not even consider anyone else for drywall work. Ernie is punctual, fair, honest, and does an excellent job. He even let me use his scaffolding to do the painting.
Description of Work: Finished a ceiling, soffit, and fixed foyer drywall.

Ernie was excellent from the bidding process through to the final touches in the installation of our drywall. I did much of the structural preparation ahead of time, and he provided helpful tips and pointers, and came over before installing the drywall to make sure all nailers were in place, etc. Although he was more expensive than some of the other bids I received, he was also obviously more competent, and his hands on workmanship were much appreciated, as the work performed involved a lot of angles and irregular areas that could have been disastrous in the wrong hands. I have used other contractors for drywall, and I am by far the most pleased with the work that Ernie performed.
Description of Work: Installed, mudded, taped, and sanded drywall in attic as well as attic stairwell. Attic is approximately 400 SF in area, but involved a lot of unusual angle work, as well as the installation of drywall around exposed rafter beams.

Ernie is a gentleman and a pro. He came when he said he would, was fair, honest and did a nice job. He made my amateur, crooked work look nice and straight. He also repaired areas in my old plaster walls that I was not expecting him to do. He is someone you can trust around your family & he goes the extra mile to serve. For example, the wind partially blew off the storm door to my garage while he was there working by himself. While leaving the house, he noticed it on his way out and took the time to fully remove it, thus saving it from being damaged. He is the only contractor I have ever over-paid, simply because he deserved it.
Description of Work: I hung approx 40 sheets. Ernie did the finish work. This involved several rooms and halls in the gabled ends of an old house. Lots angles, tricky ceiling work.

HE ORIGINALLY QUOTED $530, BUT GAVE ME A BILL FOR $480, SAID IT DIDN'T TAKE AS LONG AS EXPECTED. THE WORK WAS EXCELLENT, I WOULD HIGHLY RECOMMEND HIM.
Description of Work: I HAD 15 SHEETS OF DRYWALL DELIVERED FROM LOWE'S TO MY BASEMENT BUT DIDN'T HAVE THE TIME TO PUT IT UP, SO I CALLED ERNIE MCARTHUR, MAC'S CUSTOM DRYWALL. HE SHOWED AS PROMISED AT 9:00AM AT MY HOME IN UPPER ARLINGTON, HUNG THE DRYWALL, TAPED, MUDDED, DID EVERYTHING PERFECTLY. THEN CAME BACK 4 MORE TIMES TO SAND AND ADD MORE PLASTER. HE WAS ALWAYS ON TIME, AND THE BASEMENT LOOKS FANTASTIC! HE WAS REFERRED TO ME FROM MY BROTHER IN PATASKALA WHO REMODELED AN OLD RUN DOWN FARM HOUSE INTO A BEAUTIFUL LITTLE COUNTRY HOME. I WOULD HIGHLY RECOMMEND HIM.
