We are very pleased with our completed project! The end process was the best part. Our hard surface installers, John and Todd, were awesome. Their work was very professional and accommodating to our needs. It was amazing to watch these guys work over a five day period. The carpet installers, Russ and his helper/son Ryan were equally extraordinary. Their ability to move our heavy oak furniture and carry the heavy rolls of carpet was very impressive. We were very pleased with the care and precision exhibited installing the carpet. Even the process of installing the padding and tackless strips were executed to perfection. Now the part that had a bumpy start. Shelly was wonderful to work with regarding the sale of the job. She spent a lot of time helping us with color and product selection. But there were some issues that needed to be resolved before agreeing to the job. We compared two additional reputable stores before agreeing to Permanent Floors. In fact we found the engineered wood and one of the tiles at another store. That was part of the problem. The kitchen tile that we found elsewhere was an issue. First of all, we wanted to use two different sizes in a hopscotch pattern. Shelly and one of the other stores both said it would not be a problem. Fortunately the third store said it would not be possible since the smaller size was not available in floor tile, only wall tile. We wasted a lot of time and effort because that was not realized earlier. We tried very hard to find an alternate pattern in a different tile from all three stores. There were no others that made us happy, so we settled on the original but in a simple straight layout using only one size. Our choice turned out to be very beautiful even though we really wanted the more complicated pattern. It was confusing because the manufacturer sells the same tile under different names to different stores. We really loved the engineered wood that we found at another store, it came in three random widths and was the perfect stain color of oak wood. Shelly initially said it was not available to her. So we went on the hunt for an alternate choice at all three stores. We could not find anything as acceptable as the first one that we really liked. At some point Shelly realized that she could get the product but under a different name. We wasted a lot of time in the process that could have been avoided. The comparison was fairly easy regarding the products because now the three stores were almost able to compare the exact products, except for the carpeting which was not equally available. The one carpet that we liked at another store was available from Permanent Floors, again under a different name. That caused a major problem, since John who measured the job was the person ordering the materials was not aware of this. In fact he called shortly before the carpet was to be installed and the deal was signed to tell us that carpet was discontinued. This caused major stress for us since we spent so much time selecting that carpet based on color and how much we liked it. After telling him it should still be available since the other store even sent us a bigger sample of it, he checked more thoroughly. The issue was resolved after Shelly told him about the different names. A lot of this could have been avoided if there was better communication between the two of them. In the comparison of the three stores Permanent Floors was by far the best price. It was difficult to make exact comparisons since the other stores priced their installation differently. One insisted on using cement board on our concrete slab before installing the porcelain tile. This would have incurred more cost and our dishwasher and trash compactor would not have fit due to the additional height of the flooring. Permanent Floors assured us that was not necessary. Also the other stores estimated using more material than necessary. Another factor which saved us money by using Permanent Floors. Overall we got a job well done at the best price, and would highly recommend Permanent Floors. It pays to compare and be on top of all the details. Be sure to make it clear if you want furniture moved or carpet torn out and removed. Permanent Floors prices additionally. But the stores that included it were overpriced even with the additional services included. Stores purposely make it difficult to compare material and labor. Be sure to ask for an Angie?s List discount if you are a senior citizen.
Description of Work: This project included porcelain tile in 2 bathrooms and the kitchen, plus engineered wood in the hallway. Also carpeting was installed in 2 bedrooms, our great room and stairs, from 3 different carpet mills.

Tim was good to deal with. He was on time for the estimate. Called me a week out and asked if I wanted to bump up the start date which I did. He and Tony were very professional and on time both days. I was concerned about the dust from the sanding but it was not an issue. Very happy with new look in the guest room. I will call them back if I need more work done.

Removed old ceramic tile which had been damaged/ruined by the contractor that did a horrible job of remodeling our bathroom.Even though the work involved more than what was quoted on the initial estimate and took a lot longer, the gentleman that did the work did not complain once and did an excellent job. The day the work was done, I just came home from the hospital and the gentleman stayed later than expected to complete the job so I was able to use the bathroom. My husband even trusted him to be in the house by himself while he picked me up from the hospital. When it was noticed a few months later that some of the acrylic grout had started to separate, a call was placed to Permanent Floors and the same gentleman that installed the tile stopped by and fixed the problem. I would highly recommend this company. The staff at the store is very friendly and knowledgeable and the gentleman that did the actual work was excellent. *******

After having some trouble getting into contact with them and scheduling the service, they did the work and the end result is great. We got a quote from 1 other company and they were the best priced. The person who came out to give the quote and the person who performed the work were very nice, professional and our floors look AWESOME! I would definitely recommend them, as long as you have patience and don't need the work performed immediately. We would use them again!

I have used Permanent Floors - Carpet One before and because they did a good job I decided to use them again. I originally chose permanent floors/Carpet One because of their high reviewer rating on Angie's list, because they had been in business for many years (since 1947), because they had a showroom, and because they were not far from where I live. My wife and I wanted a new ceramic floor installed in a small bathroom and new carpeting in the master bedroom. We visited the showroom on 12/31/14 and selected the tile and carpeting from an extensive collection. A designer was present to help us with the selections. We then scheduled a time for a person to visit the house for an estimate. On the scheduled day, John called ahead of his scheduled arrival time to let me know his approximate arrival time. He arrived within the scheduled arrival window. John, the estimator, is highly experienced and was pleasant and professional. He gave us what I thought was a reasonable estimate. On 01/15/15 I went to the showroom to sign the acceptance of the estimate, pay about 1/3 deposit and schedule the installations. On 01/21/15 the tile installer (Nate) arrived at the agreed time and quickly went to work to install remove the old flooring and install the new ceramic flooring. He installed the tile one day and then to give the glue time to set he returned the next day to grout the tile. Nate was pleasant , professional, and experienced, and very skillful. He quickly and efficiently installed the tile. I believe he did and excellent job. My wife and I were happy with the installation. On 02/11/15 the carpet installer (Russell) arrived within the agreed time window and quickly went to work to remove the old carpeting and install the new carpet. Russell was pleasant , professional, and Skillful. He said he had many years of experience. He quickly and efficiently installed the carpeting in the master bedroom. I believe he did and excellent job. My wife and I were happy with the installation. My overall experience with Permanent Flooring was very good and the work was excellent. They met all my expectations and I am very satisfied with the installations.

It went very well with one exception. Our salesman told us that we needed to get all of our furniture out of our living room which we did. I wanted our baseboards painted before our new carpet was put in and my husband said that it would be easier to do if we took up our old carpet and padding first so we did. My husband had a question about the carpet strips so I called our salesman to get the answer and that's when I found out that we also needed to have the carpet and padding pulled up with out destroying the carpet strips that were already there because they were going to reuse them. If we broke a couple, they would replace those. Our salesman never told us before hand that we needed to have the old carpet and padding pulled up before they came in to lay down the new carpet until I called with a question concerning the carpet strips. I was talking to someone I know who had mentioned that they just had their carpetting upstairs installed and I asked if they had to pull up their old carpeting and padding and she said yes and if you don't they charge you to do it. For us it wasn't a real problem but only because I wanted the baseboards painted and my husband wanted to take up the old carpeting and padding first. If we didn't have a question about the carpet strips, I don't know what would have transpired when the installer arrived (I guess the worse thing that would have happened is that we would had to rescedule) but if it is a requirement to have the old pulled up before hand, I don't see how it could slip ones mind when telling a customer to have all the furniture removed. I double checked our paperwork and there wasn't anything written regarding the old carpeting, padding or furniture for that matter. We got a very good price on the carpeting and padding. They are both high quality and will last for years. The salesman was nice and the installer was outstanding.

They were excellent, extremely accommodating. They advertise dustless hardwood refinishing. Yes, it was dustless!! They helped with stain selection. They acted as if I were their only customer. I have some lung issues, so they were cognizant of that and truly made the air breathable for me. On first day, the helped by removing heavy furniture. They sanded and stained, left house locked safely each day. Process took three days. On fourth day, they came and moved furniture back in for me. Wonderful company and workers! When I need new flooring in future, I will go directly to them!

The service, price, efficiency, professionalism we encountered throughout this process was superior. We first used them on our original flooring when we built the house in 1989. They did a fine job then and they did an excellent job this time as well. We had received a quote for replacing the linoleum in our main bath with tile previously for over $3000. We went to Permanent and received a quote for 1/3 the amount, and also got the floor in in a matter of a couple of days. (We were operating on a timeline and they fortunately were able to fit us right in due to a cancellation.) What had been estimated by another company to be a week long project, was completed by them in 2 days. They were asked to replace the toilet as they replaced the tile, since the toilet was broken, which they also completed without a problem. We are not sure if they would have even charged us extra for it, but we offered to pay extra since it did require the workers to make a run up to our nearest Home Depot to find a part that was needed for the installation. The floor looks great! We would readily do business with them again! Thank you again.

Being a new member of Angie's List, I was anxious to try it out as I shopped for new vinyl flooring in my basement laundry room. I chose Permanent Floors Carpet One due to their high ratings, especially for customer service. I started by visiting the store and meeting with Shelly. I informed her of my needs, including the need to have a stove, refrigerator, and cupboard (all on casters) moved for the installation. Shelly informed me that moving appliances would not be a problem but there would be a charge (which I expected). Shelly was wonderful in sending me home with several samples to take home and arranging for John to come out and do the measurements. John came to my home and looked at the laundry room floor. He said there was some sloping that they could not fix. I asked John why they would want to fix the sloping since it was purposefully made in the flooring to accommodate drains in the floor. He could not give me a straight answer. John then said it would be my responsibility as the homeowner to move every appliance out of the room myself. I said I was not physically able to do so and Shelly had said that the installers would move the appliances for an additional charge. He implied that Shelly did not know what she was talking about. I proceeded to ask John if he could recommend another product besides the one Shelly had recommended. He said there was nothing more to offer. He proceeded to take pictures of the floor so he could discuss with the installers and determine if they could do the work. He told me he would call my the following Tuesday (4 days later). I never heard back from John and I would NEVER go back again. I found a local company (not listed on Angies) list who came to my home, recommended a product, and measured my floors. Moving the appliances is "no big deal" to them as they do it all the time. I will have my new floor within 2 weeks.

Response from Permanent Floors Carpet One
When John inspected this project, he absolutely did not say that we would not move the appliances. This homeowner requested that the contents not leave the rooms, and that we move them from side to side within a small area while installing a 12 foot wide sheet of flooring. This included a cabinet that is 7 feet wide. A room needs to be totally empty for proper installation. This was just one of a few ill-advised requests that this customer made that would have compromised the installation. When a homeowner objects to proper methods of installation we have pass on that project as we are not in the business of providing homeowners with poorly installed flooring. Also, we attempted to call this customer twice to recommend another product, but we still would have insisted proper installation methods.

I chose permanent flooring because of their high reviewer rating on Angie's list, because they had been in business for many years (since 1947), because they had a showroom, and because they were not far from where I live. My wife and I visited the showroom on 08/09/14.I wanted a carpet runner on a curved stairway. This is not an easy job, and I had some difficulty locating someone who was willing to do the job. Barbara assured me that they could do the job. She then helped my wife and I to select the carpet. On 08/15/14 I went to the showroom to sign the acceptance of the estimate, pay about 1/3 deposit and schedule the installation for 08/27/14. On 08/27/14 the carpet installer arrived within the agreed window and quickly went to work to install the carpet. The installer (I believe his name was Russell) was pleasant , professional, and said he had 30 years of experience. He quickly and efficiently installed the carpeting on the stairs. I believe he did and excellent job. My wife and I were happy with the installation. My over all experience with Permanent Flooring was very good and the work was excellent. They met all my expectations and I am very satisfied with the installation.

I can say they were punctual as far as being on time for the meeting. They were also courteous enough to wait for me since I was coming straight from work and was behind schedule. When I scheduled them to come for the estimate, I advised them that I am ready to move forward right away and to be sure to have berber samples with different textures as well as be ready to measure and draw up the estimate because I will not be available again until the date of install. The man, who was very nice, came with NO SAMPLES. Took the measurements and said it would be around $1900 for the carpet. This was being based on the fact that I wanted a berber. How can you quote me a price when I havent chosen a proper carpet piece and have no idea about the padding..no knowledge of your costs for installation whether or not its a package price? The man left and said he would be in touch. AFTER I had to search the internet while he was here and try to give some sort of example of what Im looking for. I dont trust this situation in the fact that I could be given just any kind of carpet and being charged $1900 without proper knowledge. I will not be doing business with this company.

I am sorry that you did not have a good experience with the estimate process. While we apologize for neglecting to bring out samples, we are not the type of company that specializes in in-home shopping. It is very difficult to bring multiple samples to a home since they are so large and since we feel it is a disservice to limit customers to only a few styles. We have an extensive showroom, and feel it very necessary to have customers come here so they can explore every option prior to us going to the home for the estimate. As we explained at the time, the price we gave you was a ballpark estimate based on our knowledge of the price ranges for berber carpets. We in no way expected you to agree to a price without selecting a product. Having a new carpet or floor installed in your home is a large investment that we take very seriously--we feel that limiting yourself to shopping at home with only a few options is not a wise way to make this investment. We are open 2 nights a week and on Saturdays to accommodate busy schedules. While we regret that you will not be doing business with us, we wish you luck with your investment.

Permanent Floors Carpet One was flexible and accommodating from the time we walked in the showroom until the installers left at the finish of the job. 1. The salesman (Ryan) worked closely with us thru the entire process. He answered all our questions and took the time to make sure we had all we needed, including splitting the install up into three days to allow for hard floor install, moving of furniture, and disposal of old flooring via city waste removal. 2. The selection of flooring available at the store is vast, and any flooring types or styles not available immediately arrived at our door free of charge via 2nd day shipping. The quality of the materials used for samples and install were first class and were surpassed only by the skill of the installers. 3. The install technicians for both the hard floor and carpet installation were top notch craftsmen, with a minimum of 15 years experience. The skill level and attention to detail by both were immediacy obvious. The hard floor tech even made extra trips to make sure the correct metals and trim were available for our unique installation. Both installers were meticulous in there prep for install, exacting in their install of new flooring, and through in their cleanup after the work was completed. 4. Price: After shopping several other local flooring stores (no Big Box please), we found Permanent Floors Carpet One to be the most competitive, especially considering the varied nature of our flooring needs. Overall, my wife and I highly recommend Permanent Floors Carpet One for your flooring needs.

From the store to the finish were very professional and courteous.Went to store and looked at floors and had someone to house a week later(at our request).Had floor measured and priced and about a week and a half later installers were here to work. The installers were here on time and moved fridge and stove and started on floor. They were done that day and it looks great,we are very happy with the work and appearance of floor. We will definitely use again when need arises.

I was happy with them. They were pretty upfront about things and the installer was great. Everybody loves the carpeting. The quality of work was very good. They were here when they said they would be. The installer ran into a little unforeseen issue and he stayed late to take care of it. That was really nice of him. They did great work. I would recommend them to people.
