I couldn't be happier with the work that Geoff's crew did! I know nothing about outdoor planting and Jen did a fantastic job at picking out a variety of shrubs and perrenials to plant in the newly formed beds. Keenan, Tyler, Daniel, Dan and Nick also did a phenomenal job and worked incredibly hard to get my project done in two days. I would highly recommend Ivy League Plantscaping to anyone needing landscaping work done! They truly transformed the look of my house.
Description of Work: Installation of arborvitaes for privacy screening along fence, transplanting existing shrubs and creating a new bed along garage side, creating a new bed along side of house to connect with existing bed, cleaning out existing beds and removing some shrubs, leveling out an "island" and planting grass seed, creating a new bed in front of a decorative picket fence, mulching all beds (existing and new), and planting numerous shrubs and perrenials in the newly created beds.

Geoff and his helper came out and looked at the issues. He ordered a new skimmer box. They adjusted the diverter for the waterfall. They had to return after the box was delivered. They did return the next week. We shut down the water, drained the pond to below what was necessary for the removal of the skimmer box. You could see where the issues would have been. After the new box was installed, and gooped up, it had to sit for a few days for the adhesive to set. Then they came back to check to be sure that the new box was secure, and filled in the hole around the new box. Because of the amount of rain that had fallen just prior to their return, they could not verify that the leak at the waterfall was solved. Geoff did say that if when the ground dries around the pond, if the leaking is still there, they will return to do further checking. They have always worked hard, are prompt, and are able to find and fix leaking parts.
Description of Work: I have a pond and waterfall that they have fixed and reworked in the past. They have found and patched holes in the liner that were caused by chipmunks. This time, the pond was loosing water up by the upper waterfall and down by the skimmer box. The leak at the top appears to be from alignment of the diverter, possibly chipmunk damage again. They replaced the original skimmer that was over 16 years old. The seal around the box appeared to have been compromised over the years. The adhesive was not holding and water was leaking out.

Thanks for the kind words, it's always a pleasure to work in your beautiful yard. Your pond/stream certainly isn't one of the largest water features we've done but it's definitely one of our favorites. As for those pesky chipmunks, I still say you need a cat. lol

Jeff and Jen were professional. They knew I wanted something easy to maintain. They explained what they were going to do. Their workers were efficient and polite. I wish I had known about them when I had work done in my back yard.
Description of Work: Removed bushes and azaleas that were crowding. Created a beautiful rock garden in the beds in my front yard. Left some azaleas and a Japanese maple, then added plants to add color and fill in around the rocks. The plants they used really add to the garden and complement my house.

Thank you for the kind words, you were extremely easy/pleasant to work with, Jen and I are always happy to hear that another customer is pleased with the work we've done. Rockeries are one of our favorite types of installations, low maintenance, functional, extremely colorful and unique since no two rockeries are the same. We'll be stopping by when we're in the area to check on the progress of the plants.

Although Geoff may seem nice and friendly be warned it is an act. Two proposal's were given, one for the trenching and one for other possible ideas for adding bushes or trees to areas of the yard. The trenching was what I wanted the other ideas came from them. We decided for now to just go with the trenching but kept the other proposal in mind for a later date. When we told him this as he came to collect the down payment he then started reworking the bill. I asked why and he said he had to add more money on to the trenching proposal to compensate for not taking the second proposal. In writing he quoted me a price for the job I wanted to have done now he says it will cost more money because I didn't want the second job. He claims it was tax then said it was for extra labor work. The quoted price did not include labor. If labor is an extra fee then what was the quoted price covering? I'm not buying a part that needed to be installed by anyone, I am paying for someone to come out and dig a trench with a shovel. That is the labor. He was looking for multiple excuses to add more money to a quoted price on paper. I asked about the Angie's List discount and he said he would take that into consideration after we pay the final payment. This is sounding more and more like we are being scammed. Out of the blue one day he calls me at work and tells me he will be at my house to start working in a half hour. A professional would have called and scheduled an appointment with me not just show up. At our first meeting Geoff said he would walk the yard with us with an orange spray can and we will tell him how far out from the fence we want the trenching to be and how we want it curved or straight around the patio. Geoff did not show but 2 other people did. Luckily mom was home when they showed up practically unannounced to start working. They told her to go back in the house they don't want her around when they are working. This is our house and we can be anywhere we choose to be. We are paying a lot of money for this and if we want to check the progress no one has any right to tell us we can't. When she was told that the front yard was finished and they wanted to start in the back she opened the side gate for them then went to look at the work they had done. Well, first they never asked how far out we wanted the trenching to be and did not use any guide, like an orange spry can, so there fore the straight line across out burning bushes was anything but straight, it was a disastrous crooked line and they trenched out over 2 feet further into our lawn from where the current edging was. We lost over 2 feet of our lawn. The same thing happened around the tree in our front lawn which was never supposed to be touched in the first place but again no one asked, they took it upon themselves to do this without asking us where we wanted the trench line to be. I called Geoff and very nicely asked if he could call me and schedule a time to come out and look at the lawn, fix any issues and walk the back yard and go over how and where I want the trenching to go,with a spray can, but of course he never answers his phone. The next morning I get a message from him saying that he is at the house to start working on the back yard, as the front yard is fine but since no one is home he is leaving. I called him back and asked why he didn't let me know he was coming out and all I got in response is he is tearing up my contract and returning my check as he is not going to continue the job. He will be out on Monday to return the check to me. I am relieved at this point after seeing the very poor job they did in the front yard with leaving mounds of dirt piled up and dirt all over in the grass. Unstraight lines and they never did finish the front yard as they said they did. Well Monday came and went and he never came. I called on Thursday and he said he would be out Friday to return the check. Friday came and went as did the weekend. On the following Monday I called and only when you threaten a lawsuit does Geoff respond. He got angry that I was making a big deal out of wanting my check back. These are his words" as long as I don't cash the check the money is still yours so why are you in a hurry to get the check back? I told you I'm not going to cash it so there is no reason for me to return it to you" I don't think I need to comment on that statement from him. Right from the beginning as he was trying to readjust the bill and avoiding the Angie's List discount I knew I was being scammed so I regret not stopping there. As I read the other posts of F rating he has been getting I notice that Geoff's response is always the same "DIFFICULT CUSTOMER" He seems to be good at always putting the blame on the customer. Well if wanting a straight line dug and to be asked how far out the trench should be then he is right, I am a difficult customer. And on one more very very important note, when they left the first day they walked out the side gate and left it wide open never closing it and not telling us they have left it open. Our dogs go out in the back yard to run and play, they could have easily run out of the open gate and gotten hit by a car because of their negligence in not simply closing the gate. STAY FAR AWAY FROM THIS COMPANY, PLEASE LISTEN TO THE OTHER F RATED REVIEWS, we are not difficult customers at all but Ivy League Plantscaping is nothing more than a poor company that is only out for scamming people of their money and and making excuses for their very poor quality work. Never listen to anyone who preaches to you about their good reviews on Angies List as they are trying way to hard to convince you they are a good company. For all we know they put those good reviews on here themselves. I can't imagine anyone havening anything good to say about them. Remember professionalism means making appointments not just popping in and getting mad because we didn't sit at home all day waiting in hopes you might show up. VERY OVERPRICED I'm sure Geoff will respond negatively to this

I'll try and keep my reply shorter than this customer's, her long rambling review shows what kind of person I was dealing with, none of it is true. She has conveniently neglected to mention why I decided to cease work at this jobsite, first and foremost were the racial comments the customer's elderly mother made about two of my crew members. She stated she didn't like having none English speaking Hispanics working in her yard and she didn't feel safe having those people in her yard. She was then politely ask by my supervisor to please leave the crew members alone and to please leave their working area. Second was that they were told we'd be back in the morning to finish, I'd planned on talking to the daughter about the racial comments the next morning since I wasn't at the jobsite when the comments were made. When we arrived the next morning there was nobody home and the gate was locked, at this point I decided to terminate working there and I called the daughter to inform her, I told her she'd be getting her uncashed down payment check back and I wasn't going to charge her for the work already done. I was willing to eat $250 for labor (work done on first day and the wasted trip the second day) just to avoid having to deal with anymore ignorance. I told her I'd return her uncashed check when I was in the area, but I wasn't going out of my way and wasting more time and money. Within days of talking to her, she's calling and threatening to sue me if I didn't return her down payment. She received her original check back within a week of canceling the contract. It should be noted that this was a very small $800 job after her 5% discount, it was a simple quote to just trench along the existing bed line and that's exactly what was done in the front yard.

Overall, the job went well. The weather posed a bit of a challenge at times, but the crew was out there even in the early spring cold temperatures. The crew (John, Nick, Louis, Geoff, and Jen) are personable and very easy to work with. The finished stone walkway is exactly what we were hoping for and are extremely pleased with how it turned out in addition to ALL the other projects we added on as the crew worked (see more details below). John and Nick worked tirelessly to make sure that the front walkway slabs were level and in line with our not so straight front steps. Once the walkway was nearing completion, we extended our contract with Ivy League to include a 2-3 foot high tapered peasant wall, allowing the crew to utilize many of the smaller leftover sandstone pieces, along with a large rockery (Jen's ideas here were spot on) filled with a beautiful mixture of sedum and other low growing plants. In addition, we had new plantings adding along our side fence surrounded by river stone. They extended the river stone down a long stretch of our property line to help with erosion and prevent weed growth. After all the work, the crew is returning to reseed the front lawn and check on all the various parts of the project to ensure it is thriving. Talk about customer service!! We also had a general yard/landscape clean up. This included tree pruning, laying new mulch, and the removal and fill in of our backyard pond. As the trees are beginning to bloom, they look refreshed and so much healthier than before the pruning! There are some spots were the weeds are already creeping through the mulch though. During this clean up time, Nick, John, and Louis worked hard to make sure that they removed all the loose debris and hulled it away. The crew at Ivy League Plantscaping truly improved the look of our home and we look forward to working with them in the future. I would highly recommend this company for their creative and detail oriented stone work and landscaping!
Description of Work: We needed our sandstone front walkway replaced due to cracking from settling over the years. Also, we needed a general landscaping clean up and mulching including pruning of our trees.

Horrible experience! It took over a month to complete when it was supposed to take less than a week. They never worked full days, just a few hours here and there. The patio is not level at all (see pictures). The steps are loose. I didn’t know any better until I took a walk around the neighborhood and realized every other patio looked so professionally done, very straight and level. I told Geoff when they started laying the pavers that they didn’t look level and they told me that once they lay the pavers and run some machine over it, it will be nice and level. Well I found out from another patio guy in the neighborhood that that was a lie, that nothing can fix them if the base is not properly done. My biggest mistake was rushing home to pay him the balance because he needed to be paid that day. I couldn’t even walk on the deck so I had to look from my back door over it. I called him a day or two later after it was completed and told him I was not happy with it and needed him to come back and fix it, make it level. After yelling at me, he said he’d come back and look at it and I haven’t heard from him since. It was raining a lot and getting cold and I had to get my lawn put in so I decided to wait until spring to call and have it fixed. I called Geoff again just recently and still haven’t received a call back. I just feel sick thinking that he can get away with such horrible work/customer service.

Well the only thing I agree with this customer on is yes it was a horrible experience dealing with her. We contracted to install a basic paver patio with three steps, she was informed that three steps would leave her with a big step down from the house but insisted that she didn't want to take up more patio space. Once installed she the says that she thought she need a forth step, I take her outside and with a tape measure I show her what the height will with the forth step and she agreed. We install the four steps and she then informs us that they still aren't high enough because her boyfriend has bad knees. I reluctantly disassembled the steps again and rebuilt it with five steps. It should be noted that see refused to pay for the additional materials or labor. She simply couldn't grasp the fact that she contracted for three steps and she never did pay the additional $3120 for materials/labor. She was then informed that her neighbor's sprinklers were draining onto our patio base (this is a new construction and she just had a hard packed rough graded yard), nothing was done to correct the issue. Then she hires a low budget company to install her lawn and once the patio is in its up to him to grade to the patio. Because he was doing cheap he didn't properly grade the yard to the patio and now the patio holds water. She did indeed call me this spring and no I didn't "yell" at her, she insisted that I come out to completely relay the patio so it would be even with the lawn. Once she refused to pay for the additional work any guarantee was voided and the poor grade job isn't my problem. As for our work we'll leave our long consecutive streak of A ratings for future prospective customers to judge.

Great! Geoff's team timed our project with other sod deliveries to save on delivery time since this was a small project. They had all the preparation done in advance. They were planning on just weeding the vegetable garden, but after initial review Geoff recommended replacing the soil. Other than it was organic, I don't know what magic stuff he put in there, but our garden was amazing (see pictures). It has taken me a while to post pictures, but you can see what it turned out like. Also, when they were preparing for sod we discovered the area that had been under the tree was actually asphalt. Geoff recommended how to care for the sod and gave me the option to remove the asphalt (not typically part of his services) so the sod would no die off. He checked in with us after planting to see how the grass was taking.

Thanks for the kind words, we really enjoyed working at your home and you were extremely easy to work with. As for my magic organic soil for your raised vegetable garden, it's a mix of organic alpaca manure, mushroom compost, peat moss, 4 year old organic cow manure, perlite and a good organic top soil. The top soil makes [Member Information Removed] only about a forth of the mix, with the 4 year old cow manure and alpaca manure making [Member Information Removed] about half of the mix.

Great! Geoff and Darleen came out as promised. They started where they had done a previous leak this spring, to be sure that previous patching had held. All was well in those areas. Going further down on the creek-line, they found the new leak. The size was the obvious reason for the rapid loss of the water. The repair was made. They asked that I not run the feature for 48 hours to give the adhesive to set. I started the pond again after the wait time, three days ago. All has held. They do great work at a reasonable price. Now if the chipmunks would stop eating the liner!!! I have used them for several years for pond work. I would recommend them to others.

The project went beautifully. Dar, Dawn, Devon and Geoff were all friendly, courteous and professional. They were also the hardest working crew I had ever seen. They arrived on time, reviewed the plans for my approval, worked diligently the entire time and left my place spotless. They did multiple plantings and installed a river rock path. It looks stunning and I couldn't be more pleased.

Beyond expectations! Words cannot describe how wonderful of a job Ivy League Plantscaping did on our front and backyard. We purchased a home that needed basically everything updated. The yard wasn't maintained in 10 years. The knowledge Jeff had regarding the type of plants, bushes and flowers and future maintenance on our yard was extremely beneficial and made my decision much easier to choose them over the other companies that quoted us. The work ethic that i observed with Jeff and his team every day was top notch. When they were there they worked and worked exceptionally hard. If i can say anything in a short sentence or two to describe Ivy League is that You CAN TRUST THEM. They will get the job done and done right. I have had multiple neighbors compliment me on my yard and 1 actually is looking for Ivy League to come out to there home and do some work for them. Since completion on my yard, they have been since to see how the grass is growing and dropped down more seed in areas that needed more attention! This was all way after i paid them. I will call them again in the fall to do my patio pavers!! Thank you Ivy League Plantscaping!!
Description of Work: They took multiple trees out including all roots, planted grass, planted 35 flowers, edged mulch beds and mulched 10 yards, Cut and trimmed multiple varies trees, pruned all bushes around the house.

This was a great experience. I met with Geoff twice before the work started. I described in general terms what I wanted and he gave me options and then designed the planting and rock garden based on our conversations. The crew was amazing; they are serious minded creative professionals who will not cut corners under any circumstances. I’m really happy with the results and will be having them out on an ongoing basis to fill in additional groundcover, take care of the beds and plan additional work.
Description of Work: Cleaned up and weeded shrub beds, planted ground cover, planted perennial gardens, installed a small rock garden.

We all enjoyed working on this project and especially installing the rock garden, the rock garden was more fun than work. We also want to thank you for allowing us access to your home/bathroom even when you weren't there. You were extremely easy to work with and were at ease trusting us and letting the ladies do their creative thing. Looking forward to working there again in the near future and I'll be stopping by soon to make sure the new plantings are doing well.

I chose this company because of their high ratings & good reviews. HE answered my request for landscaping, I DID NOT CALL HIM! How dare, he waste a customer's time like this and then back out for no legitimate reason! He knew where I lived when he asked to come do a quote. He knew his schedule, also. This was not a small, nor gigantic job for his company, but one that I am sure would have $10K, or more. It was VERY worth his while to do. The first thing he did did when he got out of his truck was taut his high ratings on Angie's List, but I can't imagine how he got those ratings with the utter lack of professionalism I have been subjected to! We all know how difficult it is to get a landscaper as the season moves on...now I am 2 weeks behind because of Ivy League's ineptitude & lackadaisical business practices. I would NEVER recommend this company!
Description of Work: The owner showed up at our home and wasted my time & efforts! Spent a good hour here, took all my preferences, thoughts, pictures, measurements, etc...Said he would have a design back to me in approx. 2 weeks. Well, his time frame was right, but he left a message telling me that it was "TOO far" and he was "TOO busy" to bother with my job, Therefore he was "Vacating on doing a quote!" Those are the words he used on my voicemail.

Well it figures that our first bad review would come from a customer that we never even did worked for. I simply didn't wish to enter into a contract nor deal with this customer, after 33 years in business I've learned that there are some customers that simply can't be please no matter how well the job is done and this customer just seem to fit that profile. so I decided to decline doing a quote. Sure I could of given her an inflated quote and had it declined, thus preserving our perfect rating. But that would of simply prolonged her search for a contractor and further wasted her time and mine. I wish her the very best with her project and hope she finds a contractor that feels comfortable working with her and doing her project.....I simply didn't.

They answered my call the day that I made it. They came to look at the property and give an estimate and worked around my hectic schedule. The did the work that they agreed to and even provided some extra things that had not been on the list. They were friendly, and they left the home clean and looking beautiful.
Description of Work: Provided water pressure cleaning of patio and steps and walkway. Trimmed a large amount of over growth from around home and trees and back pathway. Dug up beds around front or home and replace with natural stone and trimmed all bushes in front of home. replaced natural stone pathway in the back of the home. mulched around trees and front lamp post. They were very easy to work with and had excellent ideas. They worked very hard to meet deadlines. They did an extraordinary amount of work for the price. The were very concerned about whether I was happy with the results--which I was.

The visit was wonderful and very, very helpful. We walked the front and back yards and, for each applicable plant, I was told when and shown how to prune it. We also talked about the next "phase" for spring 2016. Seeing that they book up fast, I asked them to put me on the schedule now which is what I recommend for everyone to do - they book up fast! Geoff & Jen are the best!
Description of Work: I had questions on fall pruning and Ivy League offered to stop by (at no cost). I didn't even have to ask!
We received several quotes for the walkway, with varying levels of landscaping. We decided to go with these guys because right off the bat they had some great suggestions about the plants and landscaping. Geoff provided me with additional information about the advantages of using sandstone and answered my questions promptly. He made some statements about how they go the extra mile, and they definitely did. Geoff is the main plant expert (and I am told a great cook!) and did the detail stone work and alignment. Jen has an eye and selected the visual design, added the beautiful blue stone to accent the walkway, and managed much of the work. The third guy with them did a lot of the heavy lifting. They were fun to be around, and work well as a team. Everyone has a specialty. They took their time to make sure all the details were just right and didn't cut corners. I am very happy with the results and with the interaction with them.
Description of Work: Small stone walkway path and patio, landscaping for surrounding area in back yard. Geoffrey and his crew reinstalled our existing sandstone walkway with additional pieces, but did it the proper way. They removed and power washed the stone. They dug down several inches, put crushed stone and tamped down, re-installed the stone with additional blue stone pieces, leveled the stone, and finished off with gator dust to seal the cracks and prevent weed growth. They also pruned and moved around some plants to best location (those that like sun in the sun etc.), planted butterfly bush and other plants, and installed river stone around all the plants for beauty, to make maintenance easier and to eliminate some issues we had with water sitting in one of the corners. They also weeded the rest of my back yard and planted a service berry tree in my front yard.

You were definitely one of our favorite customers to work for, we appreciate the drinks and snacks. :) It was fun turning your backyard into a cozy living space and maximizing the small space we had to work with.
