I would highly recommend the Ohio Basement Authority. From their salesperson to their installation staff, every employee was courteous, friendly, and professional. They took the time to explain my options and pricing and invited me to inspect their work throughout the process. They cleaned up their workspace, too! In addition, there were follow-up calls and reminders of my appointments. This is a top-notch company that actually cares about customer service (and here I thought there weren't any left). One more thing (and probably the most important): the installers sing a nice variety of tunes while working. This beats the Seven Dwarfs' whistling by a mile.

We used Ohio Basement Authority in the winter based on a recommendation and research on Angie's List for water problems in our basement. We choose at that time to only have partial basement done because it was a finished basement and we didn't want to demo the entire area. Now we've decided to perform a major renovation of the area and called them back in to perform additional work. On both occasions they were punctual in arriving to our home. On both jobs John and his crew, arrived inspected the area for the work, and got right to work. Protection of carpeted area with plastic and installed plastic barrier so that dust going to other areas would be kept to a minimum. The first job took a day and a half, the second job took a day. John and his crew were very polite and professional. additionally, I would like to acknowledge the two gentlemen who came out to do the initial inspection and estimate of the job. No pressure - they made their suggestions, but said "This is your house, we will do whatever you want done". During the second project, I found out that they also perform other work but not highly advertised - egress windows, glass block windows etc. Hopefully, we don't need them again, but if we do we will be calling Ohio Basement Authority first - and request that John and his crew do the work. Wonderful polite hardworking men. My wife said she hated to see them go.... Thanks guys - hoping for a dry basement this spring.

The employees did an excellent job. They were both very nice and considerate of keeping dirt, dust etc. To a minimum and cleaned up after completion of all work. Then they explained operation and maintenance procedures and thanked me for my business and asked if I was satisfied with everything done today. I had nothing to say but VERY satisfied and thanked both of them. We were lucky on that day due to the fact it was nice out and the work required several trips up and down stairs to remove material for disposition. Excellent Job !

We had scheduled a waterproofing of a section of our basement for the following week. The next day, I got a call from Matt, who told me that they could send a crew out that day. John Pacheco and his crew came out that morning. They were extremely professional and courteous. They completed the job within a few hours. I can't say enough good things about Ohio Basement Authority.

Erin came out to give an estimate. He's an honest fellow and, although he wasn't assigned to this particular project, took it upon himself to check in regularly and make sure I was happy and everything was going according to plan. He was accessible at all hours of the day (via text) and made it much easier. I really appreciated his help. Overall, the work was done well and carried out according to what we discussed. At the time, there was high demand for this kind of service (I know because everyone I called was booked a few weeks out). So, to complain that the time between estimate and completion (over a month) would be unfair to OBA. In hindsight, I probably could have found someone to do the job for cheaper - but not by enough to make me really regret going with OBA. The only other little wrinkle was I was told I would be able to finance the job (1/3rd down upfront and then a monthly payment for some number of months thereafter), but later found out that to do this would mean working with a bank with whom the OBA has arrangements. Instead of an agreement between myself and OBA, I was put on the loan application process with a local bank. Put off by this, I just paid the remaining sum to OBA - causing a little hiccup to my cash/flow plans. I just wish I had know this ahead of time so that I could have either planned accordingly or found another contractor more suited to my financial situation. Nevertheless, they were fine and I would certainly recommend.

From beginning to end I can't say enough good things about Ohio Basement Authority. There were no high pressure sales techniques. Our consultant was very friendly, professional and extremely knowledgeable in providing us with a couple of solutions for our wall. The team who did the repair, again, was very friendly, professional and made sure I understood every step of the process of their installation. This company provides excellent customer service and we are extremely happy with the results.

Foreman Jim Cottrill and his crew were a fine group of people. They were clean and careful. Our kitchen was cleared out each day after they had hauled a few tons of dirt out or carried the blocks in. I never had a a doubt they knew how important our house is to us or how concerned we were that it was done right. We had other trades in at the same time moving plumbing, doing electrical work, and repairing the deck. The teams coordinated well and made sure my family was informed every step of the way. I would recommend them to anyone.

Ohio Basement Authority has my highest recommendation. All A+'s just doesn?t seem sufficient. It has been so wonderful to contract with a company who really did actually follow through and restore everything properly. I really believe that they should have lots of A+?s. OBA did all they agreed to do and even more. John Becker, Director of Operations, came and discussed in detail the proper way to restore my house. We had our home custom built in 1974, and I expect to be here the rest of my life. In the last year, I have been a contractor for restoring two houses that had serious water damage. Even though I took seriously every contract I signed and the people came recommended, I was extremely disappointed in the work that some companies performed. Some materials had to be removed and the job done by someone else. I had become hesitant to sign another contract. I had gotten estimates from independent men and companies who repair basements, and they may have done a satisfactory job. However, my son cautioned me to go with a large company that would make things right if something unforeseen occurred during the project. OBA is part of a very large company that has locations in America as well as other countries. John Becker, Director of Operations, told me some of the history of the local OBA. He informed me that our local OBA is owned by a former marine. That favorably impressed me, because marines have a reputation for doing their very best. In addition, John Becker discussed many of the professional attributes that the owner has. I am very patriotic and appreciate those who have served our country. As John spoke highly of the owner, I could see that John himself values honesty and integrity. I was still very cautious and concerned about signing a contract. At no time did John try to high pressure me. He did give me some options concerning the project. He told me to feel free to call him if I had more questions, or if I wanted for him to explain anything further for me. Some of the details were new to me, and I did need more explanation. In choosing which company, I tried to decide which company would actually follow through and honor our contract. The estimate for OBA was more than some and in line with some of the other companies. OBA intended to use high quality materials that would provide lasting stability. The other companies I met with gave short warranties and basically gave estimates for using materials that I felt might have to be redone after their warranty ran out in a year or five years. John Becker explained that their company provides a lifetime warranty that covers my house for as long as it is standing. Even if a different owner purchases my home, OBA?s warranty will be in effect. My confidence in John was the main reason I signed a contract with OBA. He influenced me from his first visit throughout all the work that was done as being a very thorough man who wanted quality work done on every part of my project. He personally came to my home and inspected throughout the entire project. In order to install new materials and equipment, concrete had to be removed from the perimeter of the inside basement floor. John Becker scheduled Jon Riggs and men who would be assisting him to install the new Water Guard System and other equipment that I listed above. Efforts were always made to prevent any dust from entering our upstairs. Many things were in the basement. The workers brought lots of drop cloths and covered everything on tables and etc. to prevent dust from settling on them. As they worked they carried out concrete as it was removed from the floor, and left the area very clean and neat on a daily basis. The restoration involved very hard work in order to properly replace all the damage that had been done especially in the basement area. New tile to replace the tile that was damaged was put into the ground to permit water to run away from the house. Any soil that had been disturbed was smoothed and planted with fast growing grass covered with straw. Without exception John Becker, Jon Riggs and everyone who worked for OBA were courteous, very professional and appeared to enjoy performing their work in a very workmanship manner. It is obvious that John Becker gets satisfaction from working hard and bringing about important improvements. His whole demeanor reflects that he enjoys helping people create safer and healthier homes. After I had paid in full, John came back to the house and did some final jobs himself. He asked me if there was anything more that he could do to make me completely satisfied with the work OBA had done. He had done everything to my satisfaction. I have the utmost respect for John, because he has professional integrity. He is the Director of Operations that everyone would love to have, when they have contracted for an important project.
Description of Work: My home was badly damaged by a huge tree falling on my house, because a tree company cut it down. One concrete block wall developed a crack large enough to permit water to come into the basement wall. OBA provided equipment and installation of the following in my basement to correct the damage: a Water Guard System with Super Sump and Triple Safe Sump Pump System, 29 Carbon Fiber Wall Supports, 29 Power Braces, 6 Glass Block Windows as well as repair to window wells. Toward the end of the project, I decided to replace 3 water damaged dehumidifiers in the basement with a Santi Dry Basement Air System. My allergies are much improved. It is a really wonderful piece of equipment. I can breathe much better. In order to install new items, concrete had to be removed from the perimeter of the basement floor. Jon Riggs and the men assisting him installed the new Water Guard System and the other equipment that I listed above. As they worked they carried out concrete as it was removed from the floor, and left the area very clean and neat. The project took very hard work to properly restore all the damage that had been done especially in the basement area. Without exception Jon Riggs and everyone who worked with him were courteous, very professional, and appeared to enjoy performing their work in a workmanship manner. I was very favorably impressed with their positive attitudes.

Service was top-notch! Consultation was thorough and detailed, and lasted approximately 4 hours. We did not feel rushed at all, and the technician was polite, professional and concerned that all issues were addressed completely and accurately. Initial estimate seemed to be slightly higher than we thought it should be after reviewing the issues the following day after the consultation. We contacted Ohio Basement Authority to express our concern, and the same technician came out and performed another assessment. He agreed with our findings, and adjusted the price for the contract accordingly. Work was performed on-time, and great care was taken to ensure the quality of the work would meet expectations. Foreman Mike McDonald completed the job. Overall, we are extremely pleased with the service provided by Ohio Basement Authority.

Ohio Basement Authority shaved the paint off our basement walls where the strips were installed. They drilled approximately 5" holes at the bottom of walls where the strips went. They filled these holes with rebar and concrete. They screwed in the top of the strips with bolts at the top of the walls and applied the strips with epoxy. They also filled in the stair-step cracks with concrete. They did an awesome job. We're just waiting for a receipt of payment. It would be nice if we got a response from their accounting department, like a QuickBooks paid invoice through email or something. Ohio Basement Authority gives a warranty for basement repairs like this. But, when we go to sell the house how will there still be a warranty, if there's no receipt of payment? Make sure you get a receipt from them before they leave the house! UPDATE as of 12/13/2015: We finally received a receipt of payment from them. They had miscommunication issues. I asked them specifically to email our shared email address, which is our Angie's List account email address, as well. Whenever I talked to Travis, he felt the need to confirm with my husband first. It seemed like he had personal issues emailing our shared email address and their office had sent the paid QuickBooks invoice to my husband's email address, which he specifically told them not to use. Travis also asked if we could change their Responsiveness rating from F to something higher. I'm giving them a D for Responsiveness because even though the receipt was sent to my husband's email address, I find it very unprofessional of them to ignore a simple request.

I personally apologize for the miscommunication on behalf of our company. We did send the paid-in-full invoice promptly, but we sent it to the email address in our database and not the one requested. Upon making the mistake, we met together as a team and set forth a course of action to eliminate or minimize this issue for our other homeowners. We appreciate your feedback and are better for it. If we can be of any further assistance now or in the future, please do not hesitate to contact us. Customer Service is always our #1 priority. Thank you! John Becker

The representative came and presented his approach, explained his process, and answered all my questions. The installation crew came when they said they would, and spent 3 days installing this support system (one more day than quoted, to make sure it was done right). They were very professional, and answered any questions I had. This system is to sink piers down to bedrock, or at least something that would not give, and then jacked the foundation on that side of the house to make it level again.

The quoting experience with Steve was excellent. We had originally called to address some bowing in the back wall and because we were having moisture in one corner - Steve evaluated the moisture and actually told us that it did not need to be addressed. I appreciated the honesty! Scheduling the work went smoothly, and the workers showed up on time. They took precautions to keep things clean on the main floor of my house. There was a bit of a smell involved from the glue/sealer, but the work was finished quickly and the smell dissipated quickly, too. They had to saw some wood that supported the plumbing for my washer & utility sink, which I hadn't anticipated, but they re-fastened the pipes to the remaining wood when finished. The project manager reviewed the work with me, and the strips were all installed well. I noticed that the sealer had dripped onto the floor of the basement under, and he told me that was normal because the sealer gets really hot and starts smoking, leading them to be in a hurry to get it up on the walls. I had expected that a drop cloth would be put down. I also noted a lot of debris that had not yet been cleaned up, including large chunks of wood in my utility sink (which does not have a drain filter) and a lot of debris on the floor. I asked them to clean up a bit better, which they did. Still, I spent 20 minutes down there with my shop-vac after they'd left. It would have been a tedious clean-up with just a broom. I was disappointed to have to clean up to this extent, both due to the cost of the work and because we'd been told the basement would be "left cleaner than they found it". A few days after the work, someone called from the office to ask how things had gone. I said it had gone well but expressed my concerns about the cleanup. Though I had already taken care of the debris, she offered to have someone come out to scrub the sealer off of the floor. Just a couple of days later, someone came out to literally file the stuff off of my cement floor. Not an easy job, I'm sure, but it looks much better! There are still some drips on the plastic trim at the bottom of the wall, but he recommended we use a fine-grit sandpaper to try to get it off. I will get around to it eventually! I really appreciate their willingness to make it right.

What hard workers they were! It took 2 days to do all of the work. Was done very professionally & with great care. Of course, a crawlspace is not tall enough in which to walk; must crawl on your knees to work. The crew sent, led by "Jose'", was down there long hours during the 2 days that they were here. The first day, I didn't even notice that they ever took a break for lunch; they did so the second day. They are to be commended, working very, very hard in a physically challenging area. Jose' kept me informed of all that they were doing, answered any questions that I asked, and showed me the crawlspace when they were finished. He explained to me how to operate the dehumidifier (unfortunately, I probably won't remember how to do so later, but I have a booklet!) They all seemed to take great pride in their work and were very pleasant. Of course, we don't go down in the crawlspace on a daily basis, but thus far, everything seems to be ok; will be sure to contact your company if needed. All in all, a very professional job done by very efficient & hard-working crew.
Description of Work: Re-did our 19 year old crawlspace; graded & leveled the ground, replaced plastic ground covering & covered the cement walls with 2 layers of vinyl. Re-used some of our old insulation, plus replaced some insulation with new. Installed 2 drains, a condensation pump for our air conditioner & furnace humidifier overflow, and installed electrical outlet for the new dehumidifier that they also installed.

Overall process was smooth. Technicians showed up on time and performed the service to satisfaction. Our sump pump is probably 17+ years old and is barely sufficient for our use. It was probably the first time it was ever serviced. They removed the sump pump and cleaned it thoroughly which resulted in noticeable improvement of sump pump performance. They also cleaned the debris off of sump pump bucket. Both technicians acted professionally and provided detailed findings with some upgrade options but did not try any pressure sale technique. All the options with pricing were provided to us in writing. Would recommend this service provider and would definitely use if the need arise in the future.

We are extremely pleased with the outcome of our work with Ohio Basement Authority and Gene's crew. Here are the reasons why: 1. Our finished basement looks great and ties in well with the part of the basement that did not need work done at this time. Gene took extra care to figure out a way to place the sump pipes underneath the dry wall. We greatly appreciate this! He also found a way to make the transition from carpet to flooring so that the appearance is good. 2. When Gene opened our electric box, he realized that we had several lines that were doubled up, and there was not room for the dedicated lines for the new pumps. We talked about options and decided that it would be in our best interest if we replaced the electric box with a bigger one. Of course, this added to the size and scope of our job, and it caused his crew to have to work longer hours. But they did it in a timely manner, and for the most part were careful about the quality of their work. The youngest crew member was the crew's weakest link, but they redid the few things that I asked them to do, without complaint (even given the late hour they were working to finish the job). 3. They contained the dust (from jack hammering) well with heavy, plastic curtains and they cleaned up the enormous mess created by relocating the sump hole and doing the perimeter drainage. It is impossible to contain all of the dust, but I believe that they did as good a job as is possible in keeping the dust from spreading throughout the rest of our home. They also covered my flooring with plastic to prevent dirt from being tracked in. 4. The footer underneath our angled wall was significantly wider than the rest of our footer. That was going to result in a sump hole that was farther away from the wall, and more of a unsightly problem for our finished basement. However, without my prodding, Gene's crew jack hammered enough of the extra footer so that he could snug up the hole to the wall, as close as possible. We are very pleased with that because it will allow us to cover the sump with a wood box/lid. 5. The finish work on the wall board looks very nice. I appreciate that the molding is wood and not plastic. They left the unused molding paint for touch-ups. 6. Several times members of the crew mentioned their goal to go above-and-beyond. My experience indicated that they did this. 7. One of the downspout locations was difficult to access (because of our deck), and required some extra digging and work lying down. We appreciate that they were willing to do this so we did not have to tear up the flooring to repair the drainage from this location. Gene was missing a crew member for several days, which certainly did not help him or the remaining guys. This affected our schedule, and helped cause the job to go longer than originally planned. The added electric box replacement also caused the job to go longer. Once that happened, we had to be fit into their other jobs, and it was more difficult to know when they were going to come to work. I did have one communication issue with the main office, but it was eventually resolved, and the person involved took the initiative to listen to my concerns and responded appropriately. It is an expensive repair, but worthwhile, and I will certainly call Ohio Basement Authority if we ever have additional water drainage problems.
Description of Work: Our foreman, Gene, and his crew relocated our sump pump hole, installed a triple-safe sump pump system, dedicated electric lines for the pumps, and perimeter drainage, as well as removed our damaged carpet, installing new water-safe flooring, wall covering, chair-rail, and a larger electric box panel. They also redid the water drainage from 4 of our downspouts and tied them into a newly replaced drainage line for our geo-thermal furnace.

They were great. The most affordable service we found for the work we needed. Professional and prompt. We had another leak a few weeks after the first install - a result of damage caused by another contractor from another company performing a different service - but it had damaged the new water proofing system OBA just installed in addition to damaging the valve at our main water line. Although this company didn't cause the problem, we turned to them to fix it. They responded with urgency same day and expedited the repair to occur shortly after. They were extremely generous with the cost, given we basically had to re-do the entire project they had just completed. They also fixed our water line. The work was fast and well done. We so appreciated their prompt service, great pricing, and professionalism - particularly after having such a poor experience with another company. I would recommend them to anyone.
Description of Work: Installed water proofing system in basement and replaced broken pipe to main water line into the house.

Gene was our repair person and did a great job. He was very professional and clean. He also expalined to me the steps he was taking. He put down plastic in all walkways. Filled crack. and applied bracing material along crack. Drilled in cement to drain. Cleaned up nicely.

Ohio Basement Authority was great from start to finish. They were on time, professional and completed our crawl space in a day and a half. We really liked the no pressure approach Matt had when he came to give us a quote. They were there to answer any questions we had leading up to and after the project was completed. The company even called a week later for a follow up, which I thought was nice. Our foreman John Pacheco (Rambo) allowed us to see the stages and ask questions during the project. I would recommend Ohio Basement Authority for crawl space and basement finishing needs. I would call on them again in the future if the need arises.
Description of Work: cleaned up and sealed our crawl space

I was impressed with everything about this company. They scheduled promptly, arrived at the scheduled time, and spent about an hour performing the work. Brian was very professional.
Description of Work: Brian removed the sump pump and back up sump pump, cleaned, inspected, and tested each and then resealed the well housing the pumps. He also inspected and tested the battery backup. He discovered water was low in the battery and filled each cell to the top.
