We called for an estimate beginning of Oct and Fred came out. We liked his estimatebut told him we were not signing a contract because we were paying cash after crops came off. He said that was fine. After crops were off last part of Oct. I called and said we were ready. Michelle said I needed to come sign the contract which I did that day then she told me I had to call the building supply and pay for our own materials. Materials were delivered and we took inventory of all. Triple Star showed up on a Fri to replace roof. Michelle said it would take only 1 day total if they ran into a problem maybe a couple hours on Saturday. They ended up being here all day fri, sat and sunday. On Sat around noon one of the guys came up to me and asked for payment in cash. I was not comfortable giving around $4000 cash to a worker so I didn't. They informed me also that they needed to replace some plywood and asked if they could just replace with whole sheets instead of cutting out bad spots and we agreed.Also on sat. when the workers were leaving I watched them load up 3 bundles of shingles so I inquired about them since we paid for all materials ourselves and they said they were for another job they were doing. It must have been an awfuk small job with only 3 bundles. After we measured the roof and contacted another contactor to ask how many bundles our roof would take it was determined that we paid for those extra bundles that they carried off. At the end of the last day we paid the bill with a check. 2 days later we received another bill for almost $400 more for misc. material including the 3 sheets of plywood at $44 a sheet and the bill said we were 60-90 days past due.???????? How can that be when the job had only been done for 2 days? I called to inquire about it and the secretary was very very nasty and threatened me. I called Michelle(the owner) and told her about the call and she said that she would talk to the girl. Michelle called back and said that her secretary was not rude or threatening and I was holding their bad rating on BBB against them. I told her that if I was going to use that against them we would not have had them do the roof in the first place. When I inquired about the 60-90 days past due she said that is how their computer does statements and uses the day when estimates are done since a contract is supposed to be signed and payment in full then. I told her that Fred said we didnt need to sign a contract even though he gave us an estimate since we wanted to wait to see if crops would turn out ok and then pay cash if there was enough money. She said that is not their policy and he shouldnt have done it. That is not our problem if they don't communicate. So after receiving the bill we immediatley sent half of the statement balance. Within 30 days later we received another nasty statement and demanded the rest of the money and said if they didn't receive the remaining balance we would have no warranty. We already had shingles blowing up and shingles blown completely off and broke so we sent half of the remaining balance again with a note stating that if they would like to uphold their part of the contract they should come and fix the roof and within a few days we received another nasty note stating that there was no warranty until the balance was paid in full so they were not going to come out and fix the roof. She also made a point to let us know it was over 90 days past due but yet the roof hasnt even been on for 90 days. They like to use threatening tactics and their business practices are not very good. We were going to use them for new siding in the summer along witha few other relatives for roofs but when we give them the paperwork and explain to them what has happened they agree that they are less than professional and will not use them,
