Excellent. Al was very knowledgeable and took the time to explain in detail what he was seeing and how to correct the issue. This is my first home purchase so I had a ton of questions and he was happy to answer anything I threw at him. Mention the listing on Angie's List and you can even get a small discount. Every little bit helps when buying a home.

He wanted to ensure any questions I had as a potential buyer were answered about the home, and gave tips on general maintenance should I move forward with the purchase. I’ve had an exterminator for about 6 years putting bait and traps just inside the entrance to my unfinished attic for my occasional attic mouse problem however that exterminator would not enter the attic. After 5 dead ones were found a few weeks ago when my exterminator checked traps, I began to explore other options and found The Home Detective on Angie’s List. Gene was prompt with a return call, explained their process and fee, and came to my home that following Saturday. He did a thorough top-to bottom inside-and-outside examination of my house and found areas of the attic that were exposed - 3 more dead mice were found that day. He returned a week later to do the work - 3 more dead mice under insulation - he sealed the exposed areas in my attic and put screens over my attic vents. I found Gene to be extremely thorough and knowledgeable and he took time to answer my many questions. He said if yesterday’s work doesn’t take care of it we keep digging deeper. I am switching pest control services. I highly recommend the Home Detective.

John and Mike came out to do a general home inspection for me before I signed for a new home and they did an AMAZING job. I'm new to buying a home and they explained things to me step by step and gave me a detailed report on their findings. And their price was right in my ball park. I probably wouldn't go with anyone else besides this company. They are efficient and fast but looked over this century home with a fined tooth comb. I'm very happy with my experience with them. It was an excellent and thorough inspection. Advice was given on maintenance, which was over and above a basic inspection. The inspector was highly qualified and made the process very pleasant. The inspection included a basement, deck, inside rooms, and garage. I highly recommend this company!

Well, very helpful and professional

John who did my inspection was insightful, thorough and extremely helpful during the inspection. Fully capable of answering most all of my questions and recommended when to reach out to an expert when needed. My wife and I had two houses inspected during our search for a new home and used them for both. Very satisfied.

I was honestly shocked by how great my inspection went. Allen was very thorough, took his time going through the home piece by piece. As a first time home buyer, I was very nervous and overwhelmed by the thought of the whole process but he took his time, explained everything so it was easy for me to understand. He also taught me things about the house I didn't know anything about. He did such a great job, that even my agent asked for a couple of his cards. This is saying a lot because she's been in the business for a long time and has no problem telling you where to go if she doesn't think your work is satisfactory for her buyers. We used the Home Detective for an estate appraisal on my parent's house. They were very prompt and provided a thorough, objective and accurate report. Their price was competitive with other appraisers in the area.

Al did more than we could ask as first-time home buyers. We could walk with him through each and every step of the way, giving us details on each aspect of the home (inside and out). If we had any questions, he would patiently help us along the way and give tips on things we could do in the future, as well as answering questions we had through e-mail after the inspection. His report that he provided us electronically gives detailed information, including pictures for his entire inspection. We could not ask for a better experience, giving us more confidence as first-time home owners.

Very professional and detail oriented

It went well. We were glad we had the inspection. We did not purchase either home because there were significant problems with each one. Better to spend money on home Inspector to find out what problems there are than after you purchase a home and have surprising repair bills.

Allen was professional and knowledgeable in all things about the home inspection process. Very prompt in scheduling my home inspection. Met me at the property and clearly explained all the details he was including in his report, as well as answering any questions I had. Very thorough with both home inspection and termite/pest inspection. Returned a couple days later to get the radon readings and pick up equipment. All in all, the whole thing was very hassle free, which was a blessing in the whole home buying process.

I found the Home Detective on Angie's List, and I decided to go with them due to very good reviews, and they exceeded my expectations. I scheduled the appointment with John over the phone, he was very nice, and worked around our schedule to accommodate us. Al was the one who performed the inspection, he got there before we did and had already started. He answered all of our questions very thoroughly even if they weren't related to the inspection. He was extremely nice. He didn't miss any spots in the house, he went in the attic, even though the opening was in a very tiny closet. Next day he emailed me a very thorough report that included pictures and explanations. I highly recommend them! It has been a great experience!

John did a great job. I spoke with someone directly when I initially called and appointment was set for within the week. John was prompt, informative and very personable. He made sure to inform us of all issues and made sure we understood them. He also was kind enough to come back several days later on a day we requested to check the gas line, at no charge, because the gas was not originally on, although we were told it was. Great price and work, we would definitely recommend.

Allen was amazing. He did a thorough review of what seemed to be every inch of the house, both inside and out, making sure to answer all my questions and point out issues I could remedy myself. Three and a half hours later, I had a much better idea of the overall structure of the house, instead of just the surface details. The next day, I received a detailed, complete overview of any issues he documented, along with photos of the issue and any fixes to be made. We have other friends and family looking for new homes, and I would not hesitate to recommend The Home Detective for their home inspection needs.
