We scheduled our first appointment for Friday May 11th. After waiting all day and taking the day off work, nobody showed up. We also didn't receive any phone calls or e-mails with explaination. We got in contact with him via e-mail and he was apologetic and rescheduled for Tuesday May 15th. Nobody showed up again on Tuesday and we still have not heard from anyone. We have since cancelled the deal and received a refund.
Description of Work: We purchased a deal for $99.00 for 4 hours of drywall work.

He was slow to come out to my house. He sealed the cracks and told me we would need to seal the rest of the driveway soon. The part he did seal is cracking again already.

Shortly after purchasing Matt?s Home Improvements BIG DEAL coupon, LAST YEAR (despite its LONG EXPIRATION PERIOD, WHICH JUST ENDED 10 DAYS AGO), I proactively called, IN NOVEMBER (2011), to speak with someone about assessing our masonry job (front steps repair) for scheduling/work, possibly/potentially, BEFORE THE END OF THE YEAR. I, specifically, recall saying in my message -- because no one answered (provider's answering machine picked up) -- that "my fiancee and I know nothing about masonry work; and, if it's too late in the year/too close to the upcoming holidays/snow flying, that's fine, but JUST CALL US BACK TO LET US KNOW WHEN WE CAN TENTATIVELY PLAN TO REDEEM OUR BIG DEAL COUPON...THAT EXPIRES APRIL OF NEXT YEAR." Matt went out of his way to accomodate my schedule. Another job ran over so, he was late getting to my home (hence the "C" rating for punctuality). But, once he got there he made sure he stayed until the work was completed. He did not rush the job he took his time and did it right. He cleaned up nicely and was very profressional.
Description of Work: Matt proformed masonry work on a chimney that was badly in need of repair.

This was the second time I responded to a Angie's "Big Deal" notice in my email box. About a year ago, I responded to another painter on a Paint-One-Room-For-$99 deal and was very satisfied with that job. It was great and there were no problems.However, this time was a disappointment. Although Mr.Matt McCuller is a very nice person, his work was not up to the standard of the other painter. Matt was on the phone a lot with other customers as he painted my room. He kept going outside to talk on the phone and then returned to the job.The thing that most upsets me is that Matt said he had to charge me an extra $50 for "cutting into" the ceiling, whatever that means. He used blue tape around the top of the walls adjacent the ceiling. So I went along with it and paid him the extra fee although I didn't feel right about it.. And now I am sorry. His paint job is inferior to the other painter's job, where the line to the ceiling is much neater and solid. That earlier Angie's List painter, a year ago, put up his blue tape, too, to paint close to the ceiling with a smooth line and HE did not feel the need to charge me any extra money, But Matt did. This does not seem right at all, and I think he just got an extra $50 for nothing. I feel that by responding to the Angie's List Deal, all I should have had to pay was the advertised $99 price. I feel bad that I got taken by Matt for false advertising.In addition, Matt left pink paint spatters on my antique trunk and on the carpet. His job should not have been careless like this.

He did an awesome job and had an awesome personality. He also taught me a few things about painting, which I thought was very nice. He was very experienced and it showed in his work. It was my first time hiring a painter, so it was a pleasant first experience. The fireplace now looks like new. Some of the morter water did drop and dry on the fireplace. Once it dried, it left splash marks but that is a minor detail considering how awesome it now looks. Although he was running late for both appointments, he did call to let us know.
Description of Work: He painted our family room and kitchen. He also came back on Sunday, March 18th to patch the cracks in the morter of the fireplace brick.

Matt was very friendly and professional, and he took pride in his work. There was a lot of trim invovled in the projects and it ended up taking him longer than anticipated, but he stayed late on a Friday to finish the project on schedule. He is very busy so I would suggest if you have a project that is time-consuming, get on his calendar in advance!
Description of Work: Matt painted 2 rooms, using two colors for each room, and also did some drywall repair.

I used an Angie's List Coupon for the service and did not incur any additional expense. Matt reviewed the work and got the work done in expedient fashion. Work looks great. Matt was extremely courteous and easy to work with.

I called Matt ahead of time to make sure he was able to help with tuck-pointing and sealing, and confirmed he could. He did beautiful work with the tuck-pointing one side of the chimney and our interior mantel. He didn’t have sealant on him at the time, so we decided that he’d come back when the weather was better. Unfortunately, we have to hear back from him. Since he’s a one person show, my guess is that he’s overwhelmed with everyone who purchased his deal. Maybe we asked too much of him for our four hour deal. If so, I wish he would have communicated that upfront. Overall, I’m disappointed because this has turned out to be more frustration than I expected.

I purchased two Angie's List Big Deals to have our family room painted. Matthew agreed to use the coupons to paint the wood paneling with one coat of primer and two coats of paint. There was one wall that did not take the paint well so Matt even put on extra coat of paint on that wall. I told Matt I would like the room finished by the weekend so he stayed late on a Friday to meet that goal. Matt went above and beyond and I would recommend him to anyone!
Description of Work: Matthew painted our family room which was covered in wood paneling. He painted one coat of primer and two coats of paint.

He did an okay job. Once the job was done, I had to pay an extra fee that I didn't know about. Other then that I thought he did a fine job, and he was very honest.

I had a chimney cap that i needed placed in a house we just bought and paid for a $99 big deal through Angies list for four hours of masonry work. The guy came to my house one time to get a bead on what needed to be done and i never saw him again afterwards. He called me twice after i had searched him out and emailed him a couple times and then over the second phonecall we discussed the job that needed done as well as agreed that he would go and seek out some prices of caps for the chimney. I have yet to hear from him ever since. I have always been a proponent of supporting small businesses and entrepreneurs especially in this economical climate, and it is characters such as the above mentioned that give all others a bad name.

Matt came and gave his estimate ( very good price ) and got us on his schedule. On the agreed date Matt and his helper came on time after picking up all the materials. They removed all the old bathroom components the first day. Over the next two weeks they transformed the bathroom with all the new materials. Since we have an older home with only one bathroom they made sure we always had a working toilet before they left each night. When they were finished with the remodel they took all of the trash away. I will use Matt's Home Improvement again in fact I am going to have him do some improvements on our kitchen after the first of the year.
Description of Work: Matt and his crew did a bathroom remodel. Shower installation including shower door, removal of old tub, Installation of vanity, new shelving, dry wall and painting, new floor, light in shower, and installation of all plumbing including drains and shower and vanity fixtures.

Matt was supposed to come the next day at 3:30 and never showed up or called. He then said the back plan would be the following day at 3:30 but did not call or show up for that appointment either. I waited both days for eight hours each. Most of the projects are within the home, a large remodeling job, and re caulking of the roof. Three weeks later he called back, on December 14th, to ask if he could still perform the work but I did not return his call. I am very disappointed with his reliability and professionalism.

Mr McCuller came out on 11/3/11 to look at the work to be done. He made an appt. to come back on 11/18/11 to do the job. When he cam back on the 18th. the weather prevented him from doing the work. He stated that he would try to do the work the next day or within the next few days. After not hearing from him in over a week, I called and left a message for him to call me about the delay. He never returned my call.

I responded to the "Big Deal" email offer, and purchased it. A week or more passed, and I hadn't heard from Matt, so I sent an email asking him to contact me. He called me on the phone, and we set up an appointment for him to assess my project. In a short time, h called and asked to reschedule, which I agreed to do. Five minutes before he was to come, he called to reschedule again, which I agreed to. At the scheduled time, Matt did not show up, and he did not call. He has not contacted me in the five days that have lapsed since the appointment. I have canceled my "Big Deal" and received a refund from Angie's List.

It went fairly well. He has great work ethics and does what he says he will do in a timely matter. I just wish he had more experience in tuck pointing because the work wasn't what I expect.

UPDATE 9/2/10 - It turned out the concrete was not mixed properly and the pour was not solid. This was confirmed my multiple contractors who came out to inspect my crumbling step. I got in touch with Matt who agreed to come take a look and fix the step but he ultimately flaked out. I believe this was primarily because Matt is no longer a full time contractor. I ended up salvaging the base of the step and repouring the top surface to repair it on my own. At the time of the initial work, Matt was very professional and easy to work with - I believe his subcontractors were the root cause of the poor workmanship - either way I can no longer recommend the work. This was as smooth as I could have hoped. After I called Matt on Friday, he had an estimate in my email by Sunday. After I asked Matt to add something to the invoice, he mentioned he would need to see what the inside of the house looked like. We set up an appointment for a few days later and he was right on time and very professional. Matt let me know the job would take three days and he explained exactly what would be done on each of those days. It was like clockwork - every day we'd come home and it would be exactly as he said. The thing that impressed me most was simply how responsive he was - both via email and phone. I've rarely had a contractor that was so easy to get ahold of - especially via email. I will be calling Matt in the near future for more jobs around the house.
Description of Work: We had a 5'x5' concrete step that was deteriorating and posed a safety hazard. Matt tore down the step, supported the hollow area underneath with gravel, sealed off an access panel leading into the house, and replaced several bricks on the side of the steps.
