I wish I would have read other reviews regarding poor communication, sketchy promises, and the outright lack of service delivery. Matt never showed up for even an initial estimate on June 25; never called to reschedule. When I did contact Matt several days later, he blamed the absence on the weather, though I don't see how rain would affect a masonry quote on a couple of brick steps. Estimate was rescheduled at this time for several days later, and Matt did not show once again. I called again to ask about his absence, did not receive a direct answer, and so I rescheduled again and said I would leave the Angie's list coupon in a bag on the front porch so that he could perform the estimate without me being at home in the next few days. That was well over a month ago. The coupon sits in a plastic bag on my front porch to this day. At this rate, the coupon will expire before I even get an estimate, let alone my promised 4 hours of work. If there was a true problem with scheduling, fine, but any consumer has the right to expect IMMEDIATE communication, initiated by the vendor, along with an apology, an explanation of why the commitment was broken, and a rescheduled date for service. Highly disappointing.

Homeowner contacted Matt in August, 2012. Repair date was set for October 23. The edge of superstorm Sandy necessitated rescheduling. Nine or ten reschedules later, in August, 2013, Matt appeared for two hours and finished the job. Blame the weather, Matt's scheduling inefficiencies, or Kismet.

Arrived on time. Worked steadily through out the time on the coupon -- after I had to go to the local hardware store to purchase all the materials needed for this job. I did not expect to have to purchase materials when the provider arrived. Was the provision of materials part of the "Great Deal"? I was not happy with the result of the services from this vendor__

He did a good job on the work. My only complaint is that his communication regarding scheduling could have been much better. The work was scheduled several different times before it was completed. Some of that was due to weather (which is unavoidable) and one time was due to his error in scheduling. I didn't have an issue with needing to change the schedule. My issue was that he never communicated with me that he hadn't done the work, nor that he had to reschedule. The day the work was scheduled, I assumed it had been done (because he hadn't called me to say otherwise). It wasn't until I contacted my tenant that she informed me it hadn't been done. This happened 3 different times. Again, needing to reschedule due to weather was fine - not communicating it was not fine. I think Matt was backed up considerably due to the endless rain we've had, so perhaps he was having difficulty keeping up with communicating things to everyone. However, in the end, he did the work and it was good.

I was very dissatisfied, I got a deal for 149$ for three hours of tile work and I need a tile to be re-grouted in the shower stall, I called him, he made an appointment, it's was about 3 or 4 weeks out. First thing is he never called to confirm, most probably he will have to call me to tell that he's on his way and make sure that I was in the house but he didn't. Secondly, he ask for the materials and he said that he is just supposed to the job and not supply for the materials. I don't remember of what it's said on the original deal, if I will have to supply for the grout or not but the reason for using somebody like that is I didn't want to go out to search grout and figure out what's the right thing to use. He said that he got something in his truck and I said that if he can wait there, I'll run to Home Depot and I'll buy whatever is required, he showed me what he got on the truck and what he had is not usable but it was really old. I bought the materials on the Home Depot and I'm kind of a little bit pressured when I get home, he looked at the materials and that's fine. he proceed to work on the job and I ask him how long do we need to stay out of the shower and he said 24 hours so we gave a little bit longer than that. In two weeks the grout had falling out so I did a research and I found out it need a special grout in that kind of shower, and the right material will take about 3 days to cure. What I did is before we go to New York City I re-grout it myself and let it cure for 3 days. If he done the job that I have expected for that price, it will be a little bit fine. I just have to buy the right material and learn how to do it, I've spent much money for the right tools. His price was okay if he knows how to do it.

It's till turning out, we have to shift dates back and fort, he did do a kitchen counters, tile work on an earlier Angie's big deal and that was fine, he did a nice job in everything. Again we are still having an issue in arranging times so I brought him to the next big deal for masonry work and that's still pending, he had a problem coming last week and we have scheduled him for this week I have found his work good and sometimes his scheduling is a little bit challenging and I'll be assuming that his brick work will be as good as he worked on my tiles. I had to pay extra for some additional work that was not really part of the deal. He is very professional.

It looked good when he left. But over time (just a few months later) it has lost some of the cement between the blocks. (I had repaired it before and had the same issue but he didn't do any better than I did). The mortar just didn't last.

There was extensive damage and he could have easily convinced me to replace it altogether. However, at this time I am just looking to buy a bit more time and keep it from getting damaged any further. He understood and did a great job at sealing and cleaning it up so it looked better. He is going to give me an estimate on full replacement in the future when the time is appropriate.

I purchased this Big Deal in November, but was unable to use it right away when I had planned. It expired in late May, so in early May I began trying to contact the provider to use the coupon I had purchased. I called and left messages, but got no response. I eventually emailed, and shortly afterwards got a phone call. Unfortunately, between his cell phone and mine, the call was unclear and truncated. Matt did, however, say he would put me on the schedule and get back to me. After several days with no contacts, I called and emailed again, but I did not get a response. When I tried again, the number was no longer in service. I have never received the service (carpet cleaning) that I paid for through the coupon.

He came and looked at the couple jobs I had. He did the roof repair the same day. He cleaned out and ran hose through gutter in case that was contributing. And that was a couple hour job as he checked a few other things on the roof for me. I showed him a couple things I needed done, and he fixed a cellar door, a few new hindges. $20.00 for that repair. He also installed a Moen faucet in my kitchen. I do have a few other things however was out of town a couple months. Came home to a flooded basement so other things will have to wait. All in all he was a nice man and did what I needed I felt at a reasonable price. I am a senior citizen and like working folk have a limited income. Thanks

I would definitely hire Matt again. The weather disrupted the work plan several times but Matt still completed the work in a timely fashion. The only reason for the B's is that he did not call me to let me know he would not be coming on the days that were rained out even though I had assumed he could not do the work in the rain. Overall, he did keep in touch and I would recommend him. In fact, I already have to my next door neighbor.

An absolute horrendous experience. I'm writing the review 2 years later because at the time of service I did not know Matt was an was Angie's List provider; he was recommended to me by a coworker who had some minor tuck pointing work. Based on that recommendation, I called Matt and discussed tearing down a single step and replacing with two steps (because the step up was too high). He came out for the estimate, had a very friendly demeanor and absolutely sold himself on being meticulous and detailed oriented. He told me I would end up with two 8 inch steps with each step consisting of two rows of horizontal bricks and a slab. The day of the job, he sent two men in their 70s to do the job; mind you, he never mentioned this job would be subcontracted. They had some old, dirty and chipped recast bricks (basically recycled bricks with the 3 holes in them.................are you kidding). I called Matt immediately and expressed my concerns over the type of bricks being used and the fact that the job was being subcontracted and he was no where around to supervise and get things going. He told the men to stop work and came out later that day or the next. We set up a day to drive together to a supply store and I picked out the type of (color) bricks I wanted to use. He also purchased additional supplies i.e mortar mix and sand to add. We then went to another place on Miles to select the type of slab. Once the slabs arrived, we set up a date for the job. He arrived with a helper. The steps consisted of one row of bricks with a grossly thick layer or mortar (@1.5 inches) and a slab. Still not sure why he tried to "build" the height with mortar instead of adding the second row of bricks as there were plenty of them. Not long after the job was complete, I noticed a sandy mixture around the base of the steps. I swept that up but then came more and more and more. The mortar mix he used was eroding away. I've since been told by other professionals that he added too much sand to the mix. The slab he installed also began to chip and flake away. I've since been told by other professionals that a water sealant should be been applied. At any rate, I called Matt not a month after the job was complete and told him what was going on. He assured me that he would come out and correct/replace any issues. He never did. Left multiple messages that went unanswered. Now I'm in the process of hiring another company to redo the steps hence paying for the job twice. SHAME ON YOU MATT McCULLER. SHAME ON YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Tip: don't forget about KARMA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
