They removed furniture, carpet and various items form the basement. They sanitized and biowiped all hard surface items, walls and floors. They protected my first and second floors by installing containment curtains. They used air scrubbers and commercial dehumidifies to create a safe environment. Rick and his crew were fantastic. They were very respectful of my home and did a great clean up after the remediation. They were professional, personable and answered all of my questions. Rick is extremely knowledgeable about this mold STUFF he made me feel comfortable with and confident in the remediation process. If I ever have a mold problem again, I really hope that I don't; Dutch's Mold Inspections, LLC will be my first call.
Description of Work: I had mold in my basement. Rick inspected the basement, discussed the mold remediation process and gave me an estimate. We scheduled a day and time for the remediation. He and his two-man crew arrived at 7:30 a.m. on a Friday and they were finished before 3:00 p.m.

When we were searching for mold remediation, we had several quotes. We knew Dutch's Mold Inspections were not the cheapest estimate we received, but we decided to use their services because they seemed like the most thorough, and they did not disappoint. When our appointment was scheduled for 7:30 am, Rick was knocking on our door at 7:30 am on the dot. His team quickly and professionally set up dehumidifiers and plastic sheeting to limit exposure from our basement to the rest of our house. Rick had a team of three workers, who very thoroughly but very efficiently (and quickly!) took down drywall and treated for mold. Rick was very personable and took his time to show us everything that they did. They came in at 7:30 and were out by 1:00 pm. Great work, I wish all home improvement projects were this easy!
Description of Work: Treated mold in our basement caused by storm-related water damage and insufficient drainage from our downspouts. Removed drywall installed in basement by previous owner, which had been drawing in additional moisture through the walls. Stripped the walls down to the cinderblock and treated for mold with sanitizer, as well as with extensive dehumidifiers.

The inspection was very thorough. We have a finished basement that had recently gotten moldy. We later determined that the mold was from a leak in our sprinkler system. It would have been helpful for the inspector to suggest that we try to find the source of the issue since it was relatively recent. He went through the whole basement and showed how to look for mold and showed me where it was on the doors, furniture, etc. They quoted a price to clean the basement which seemed fair for the work they would do but more than I was willing to spend on the process. He suggested some cleaners we could get from a home improvement store to try to get at some of the mold ourselves, which we did. I'm glad he took the time to answer all my questions and provide alternate solutions.
Description of Work: Inspected basement for mold which we had smelled. Found mold in a number of spots. Told us how they would get rid of the mold and recommended products if we wanted to attempt ourselves.

The crew was very efficient, friendly and, when they made cuts to remove pieces I asked them to remove, skillful. They left the basement In perfect shape. They also set up a plastic sided tunnel from the basement to the back door that kept dust from getting upstairs. I would hire them again.
Description of Work: In basement removed panneling, cabinets and a large work bench then sanitized everything. They did an excellent job and were done in 1 1/2 days.

We had a moderate mold problem in our basement due to prior water leaks and deferred maintenance by the previous homeowner. A different contractor we spoke to used scare tactics to try to get us to pay for a bunch of work to our basement that wasn't needed. Rick was upfront and straightforward and explained the cause of our mold problems and didn't try to sell us unnecessary services. Rick was extremely responsive and professional throughout the entire process. He and his crew showed up EARLY both days and kept us informed of the work that was occurring. Even though the work was very messy (they basically ripped out all of the drywall in our finished basement and disposed of it outside our house), the crew left our house spotless. I can only say positive things about our experience with Rick and his crew! The only reason we rated price as 'B' is that it's never fun to pay $4200 for something as un-fun as mold remediation. However, the price is well worth the peace of mind. Thanks Rick!
Description of Work: Removed and disposed of mold-encrusted drywall and construction materials in our basement. Used antimicrobial, fungicide, and disinfectant to sanitize our entire basement. Used air scrubbers and Hepa vacuum to sanitize as well.

Before contacting Rick with Dutch's Mold Inspection I had another company inspect the black mold in attic; they quoted me $962.00 to remove and clean-up. Rick looked at the problem a few days later and said I could easily take care of it myself with an $8 bottle of mold removal spray. Rick could have easily exploited my mold problem and sold me on costly labor. I was impressed he didn't try to take advantage of an unnecessary job (while another company made the attempt). I think that kind of integrity goes a long way. I plan to make Rick the first and only call in the future for services of this sort.

I left a message yesterday on Dutch's website and explained that I have a mold problem in the bathroom which has no fans, and want somebody to take a look. This morning at 8:33am, Dutch's expert called me (I forgot the name sorry), I bet this is the first thing he did in the morning. He asked me questions where the mold is and how big the area, etc. And he told me it is very common in the bathroom without a fan. He suggest to go to stores and buy a product and spray them. It will keep the mold from coming back. He also suggested not using wall paper in bathroom and use a mold-prevent/control primer sold in painting store. I truly appreciate his phone call in a such quick manner and his suggestions and his time. This is what a good business should do. In a separate note, this is my second day on Angieslist and yesterday on the front page, I saw "the worst business in 2015/2014" and glad to find out Murphy and Son roofing went out of business. We used their service back in 2008 and spent $400 for nothing. And they refuse to honor the warranty and hang up my phone calls. Although I did not leave any feedback in any website at at then. I was not surprised to find out they have over 60 complains and got lawsuit. A good business is built from mouth to mouth. I will not be afraid to praise somebody did a good work and in the same time will not be afraid to tell my honest opinion.

The job required that the company begin by bringing a dumpster and hauling away almost all the contents of the basement. This was done very efficiently, as was the actual removal of the areas effected by mold. The workers were polite and professional, and the work was done exactly as scheduled. It was a pleasure working with the owner.

Rick contacted me immediately upon receiving my email from Angie's List. We arranged an appointment for him to come and evaluate the damage in my basement from the heavy rains in June. His moisture meter gave information that indicated lots of water behind the paneling which necessitated removing it to get rid of the mold. Rick's employees were very polite, prompt and hard working. All the work was done in the time frame Rick gave me, and they left my basement clean, neat and sanitized. I would recommend Dutch's Mold Inspections to anyone looking for a high quality and honest business owner like Rick Nesselhauf. He and his workers were terrific and did a great job.

We had a general inspection that indicated there was mold in the house we had put an offer on. We decided to pursue more intense mold inspections to determine the amount, type, and get a remediation estimate so we could ask the sellers to remediate the issue. The general inspection indicated there was no moisture in the basement walls. Rick, however, found the walls to be saturated (greater than 25% moisture levels), pointed out mold growing all around the basement, and also indicated some mold upstairs (these were all visual inspections). He also took air samples of the basement, first and second floors. He rushed the samples at no cost to us when USPS goofed and sent them out a day late as we were on an incredibly strict timeline as part of our purchase contract. Rick updated the estimate once we found out the type/levels. All along the way, he answered tons (seriously, I sometimes emailed him 3-5x a day as I thought of questions) of questions I had as I have heard horror stories about people buying mold-infested houses. He made me feel good that with the proper remediation this wouldn't be a bad purchase. I'm so glad we contacted him because the remediation cost is around $6000 and we were able to get the sellers to pay it instead of us realizing this was an issue a few years down the road. If we ever buy again I will definitely use Rick for any mold inspections I may require.

After finding black mold on an indoor wall of a second floor bedroom closet, I hired Rick Nesselhauf to determine the type of mold and the cause of the mold. He used a moisture meter placed against the wall in that closet, the wall directly below it on the second floor interior as well as interior walls in the basement . He said he did not find any moisture. He took no samples. He did no testing of the air quality. He did not inspect the attic or roof. H e could not tell me if or where any water was coming from. His conclusion was that a camera tripod and 2 hiking poles that were stored in that closet must have carried mold spores into the closet and that was the origin. His advice was to clean the walls with Clorox water. I did so. In January 2015, (two years later) I found mold again in that closet 10 times worse than it was originally plus more on the wall in an adjoining bedroom closet. (different wall) There were also water marks on the paint of those walls. I have since found moisture meters available at my local Ace Hardware Store similar to what he used for approximately $25 . His 'misdiagnosis' caused the problem to get much worse and caused more damage to my home.

Response from Dutch's Mold Inspections LLC
This is the first I have heard that this client was not happy with my Service which was an Inspection ONLY with NO Mold REMEDIATION PERFORMED as there was a very small amount of Mold present at that time, 2 and 1/2 years ago. The water staining on the ceiling was explained to me as being from a prior Ice Dam. I used a Tramex Moister Meter to determine the moisture content of the ceiling, walls and trim in the closet. There were no elevated levels of moisture detected, 7% and under. The Tramex Moisture Meter is a professional non-destructive instrument that can not be purchased at Ace Hardware or any Big Box store. Neither can any meter close to its accuracy. I offered testing services and the client declined to pay for any sampling of the Mold or any Indoor Air Quality Testing at that time. I also offered an option to cut an access hole in the drywall to inspect the wall cavity, the client also declined to have that done. I advised the client to have a roofing and or gutter company to inspect for roof leaks and water back up from the gutters. The client advised me that she was a photographer and took pictures in the woods caring the back pack and tripod and sometime other items that would then be placed in this closet without cleaning or sanitizing. I advised her that this is not a good practice. I would NEVER recommend using bleach to sanitize any porous materials like drywall and wood or pack backs!!!!! Bleach will not kill Mold on porous items, in many cases the bleach will only change the color of Mold and may even help it to spread. I supplied her with the name of 2 EPA approved Sanitizers that she could use too clean up her current issue and Sanitize her back pack, tripod and other items prior to placing them in the closet. It is clear that this client did not understand or followed my recommendations. If she would have contacted me to re inspect her issue I would have done so without any charge to her. I am sorry this client was not happy with my Inspection but it is clear she did not follow threw with any of my recommendations. Rick Nesselhauf Dutch's Mold Inspections and Remediation Services

I installed a vent in one of the bathrooms during the winter. The weather was too bad to install the roof vent right away and I didn't think it would hurt for it to vent to the attic for a short period of time. Big mistake. I had vented bath vets to attics in other houses I have owned without any problems. But within about 3 weeks widespread mold growth developed on the roof sheeting. The attic is well isolated so I wasn't worried about mold infiltrating into the living space, but I was concerned about it affecting the resale value of the house. I selected Dutch's Mold Removal from Angie's list based on good reviews and called for an estimate. Rick responded quickly and set up a day for a visit. Rick arrived at the scheduled time and assessed the attic ventilation situation. Rick seemed well-informed about mold causes and removal and gave good answers to all my questions. He pointed out that there were not enough eave vents and that some were clogged with blown-in insulation. He also noted that the roofers had installed roof vents in addition to the power vent and that was a no-no. He gave me what I thought was a reasonable estimate to remove the mold, clear existing eave vents, install extra eave vents, and install a roof vent for the bathroom vent. Since outside work was required for installing eave vents we had to wait for acceptable weather. When the workers came they performed the work we agreed on. I was amazed at how well the roofing appeared after the mold was removed. It looked like new. See the attached photo. I didn't take a photo of it with the mold, but it was black. I was satisfied with the new eave vents . They finished the job in less than a day and left the house as clean as it was when they arrived. I was very happy with the job performed and I would recommend them.

Working with Rick was very educational and I wanted it to done right to avoid any issues with new buyers when we put our house on the market in a month. Rick explained how attic venting is supposed to work and I followed his recommendation. I wish I had a better home inspector in 2006 when we bought this house because it would have been a problem at point of purchase. They tarped the pathway from outside to the bedroom with the attic access. they were here from 8 am - 4 pm with a 4-man crew.
Description of Work: Scrub/clean/treat to remediate the mold in the attic roof. Added soffit vents, closed off small ridge vent, wired and installed a new attic fan with thermostat and humidistat, vented attic vans out the roof versus instead of to the soffit vents they were installed in the 80s and finally replaced the cardboard baffles with foam ventilation baffles.

He was great and he came out quickly he was very nice, gracious and helpful. he took samples and had to send them out for testing. As soon as he got them back he explained them to me quite well and sent the reports to my email as well. He also gave me a couple of suggestions of how I could proceed. He also gave me a fair and well explained estimate if we went further on the job with him. He suggested I take the report to my doc and possibly have allergen testing to see if the mold has affected my health. If we decide to go forward with the remediation, we'd absolutely go with this company.

Before launching into several remodeling projects, we wanted to start at the bottom, in our basement. We have some mold issues and possible indoor air quality issues. I found Dutch's Mold Inspections on Angie's List. I left Rick a message on a Friday and he returned my call within a few hours. He scheduled a visit for the following Monday. He arrived within the window of time he promised. He thought our situation was manageable and offered some advice on things we should do before proceeding with him. He recommended against the indoor air test at this time - he didn't think it would be money well spent right now. He also suggested we could start with a modestly priced test kit found at the big box home improvement stores. He offered several suggestions: improving the air flow in the basement, possibly buying an air purifier, and dust, dust, dust. He also gave me a flyer on a recommended mold cleaning product (Concrobium Mold Control). Rick was very friendly and professional. He answered all of my questions and offered many tips, suggestions, and solutions. He could have rung up quite a bill for us by performing at least a couple of air tests and offering to clean the mold that we do have but he instead offered low cost steps we could take on our own before calling him back. I'm very pleased to have called Rick and if I run into further problems, I won't hesitate to call him back.

Our attic had been a concern for some time. The original roof did not have adequate venting and our chimney was leaking. The roof was replaced several years ago and just recently the chimney was repaired. After searching Angie's List for someone who could address this issue for us, we contacted Rick Nesselhauf at Dutch's Mold Inspections, LLC. Rick was quick to return my call and we made an appointment to have him assess the situation and write an estimate. During his visit, we showed him some other small areas of the house that we were concerned about. He was nice enough to explain that those areas were minor and we could treat them ourselves. At our request, he even advised us on the correct products to use and explained how to properly treat these areas. He verbally gave us an estimate of the cost to remediate the attic, thoroughly explained the work to be done and how it would be accomplished. A few days later, we received the written estimate and hired Rick to do the work. Rick and his crew of two arrived on time (actually 15 minutes early) on Sept. 26th to complete the work. The work was done by his two workers, with Rick checking in from time to time to be certain everything was going well. His workers were polite, quick, efficient, and were careful to cover flooring and carpeting between the front door and the upstairs attic access. Once the work was completed, Rick invited us to inspect the attic above the house and over the garage, so we could see for ourselves how well the job was done. It was far better than we had expected! Before hiring Rick, we had received an estimate from another company. Rick's proposal was lower than the first, and included new baffles for the attic as well. In addition, he honored a senior discount and a 5% Angie's List discount. We highly recommend Dutch's Mold Inspections, LLC to anyone who may be in need of this type of work. He is an honest businessman who has earned our thanks and respect.

I contacted Rick by phone. He came out immediately to look at the job, give a written estimate, and gave me an approximate date to do the work. He actually came to do the job sooner than he initially indicated. He and his crew were prompt, courteous, efficient, neat (laid tarps in the work area and cleaned up after they left). He was thorough and even replaced a vent on the roof that was incorrect for it's function. They also made sure that each of the bath rooms were individually vented out (they were not prior to this work being performed). As the job unfolded, Rick found that some of the venting he thought he would need to do, was not necessary. He reduced our bill by $300 for this. When the work was completed my husband had questions and felt that some additional soffit vents were required. Rick promptly sent a member of his team to do this. Additional soffit vents were installed on the second floor. We called again indicating that additional soffit vents were needed on the garage side. Once again, Rick sent Harry out to put in these vents. He did not complain about the requests, and he did not charge us any additional monies. I can't remember a time in the past, that I ever had such a remarkably good experience with any contractor. We highly recommend Rick and his crew for a thoroughly satisfactory job well done!

We had a problem for many years of our bathroom fans not venting properly and moisture accumulating in the attic roof sheathing and along the rafters, causing mold. Rick came and inspected, provided an estimate, and and after several false starts (something always got in the way of our my scheduling his work -- my fault not his) Rick's team arrived to begin the work. The crew worked very hard for about a half day, making certain that the mold stains were gone, the wood disinfected and all of the insulation batts were moved from the soffits, allowing better movement of air to the ridge vent. Rick's team of a man and woman were very professional, respectful and careful about spreading any dust or mold. They hung protective sheets and laid a heavy-duty drop cloth on the carpet and stairs. They did a very thorough job of cleaning and putting things back. They also checked the roof ridge vent, as well as the roof exhaust ventsconnected to the bathroom fans, but they did not check the bathroom vent pipes in the attic, as I had to adjust and repair the insulation on one of them after they left (it was an existing problem, and not caused by Rick's team). I also had to redistribute and adjust a number of insulation batts because they had been moved or disturbed by the crew crawling along the joists to clear the soffit vents, which is understandable. Crawling on joists is a tough job no matter your size or age. I will not be able to tell if the mold will return until after winter, since it is a cold weather condensation problem. I will follow up with a review with those results. This is an expensive project, but worthwhile for both your family's health and peace of mind. Rick did reduce the original estimate because the extent of the work was less than anticipated, but I do regret that I did not remind Rick about his 5% Angie's List discount that we had discussed very early on, as it was not included in my final invoice. Note to all Angie's list members -- not all vendors automatically extend their discounts -- with some, you have to remind them at the time of payment!
Description of Work: Cleaned Attic roof and joists of mold, and treated the wood with disinfectant. Cleared insulation away from all of the soffit vents to allow better circulation of air.

The home we are renovating had standing water in the basement for several years and some serious mold growth in the ceiling of the basement and adjoining crawlspaces. Rick came out and looked at the job several months ago and to my pleasant surprise, held the pricing on the job for about six months. Communication in the scheduling was very good and the crew was on time, and knocked the job out. There were a couple of spots that they missed but it was a big job (easy to do) and Rick quickly took care of the problem. Overall, I think that mold remediation is one of those jobs that you had better get someone who is both honest and knows what they're doing...and Rick is that guy.
