GroutMedic

Ceramic Tile, Floor Cleaning and Waxing, Natural Gas Lines,

About us

The Grout Medic of Northern Pittsburgh is the area’s brand of trusted and proven experience and professionalism for grout and tile repair, sealing, color sealing and tile replacement. It’s common knowledge that grout can be difficult to maintain and keep clean. Homeowners who have tried to clean it themselves know this first-hand! But what is not as well known is that grout contains microscopic pores that act like a sponge, absorbing dirt, mildew, and mold that cannot be removed through regular household cleaning methods. This is unsafe not only to your family’s health, but these contaminants can harm the surface below the tile. The Grout Medic offers an affordable, effective cleaning method that will improve the look of your tile floors, backsplash, counters, and bathrooms, and get rid of the dirt. The technicians at The Grout Medic use an environmentally safe procedure called advanced vapor technology. Our philosophy at the Grout Medic is not complicated. Our belief is simply that we will do our best work in cleaning, repairing, sealing, or replacing your grout or tile. To that end, we have the trained technicians to do the job right to ensure the beauty of home’s tile floors, walls, backsplashes, and counters. Additional DBA - The Grout Medic. I very disappointed with Grout medic. They sealed my master bath and now I have sealant lines that have dried on tile. In addition, they removed old caulk and re-caulked shower. When the caulking never cured, I called them to come back. They ignored my requests. As a result, I have to hire another contractor to fix. Don't use grout medic - they are very unprofessional.

Mike was professional and helpful. When he saw that one of my faucets was leaking in the bathroom, he told me that the leaking would prevent the grout from drying properly. He suggested I get a plumber in to fix the leak and then he would come back to finish the job. He did not charge me anything extra for having to come back again. He did a beautiful job. I highly recommend his work.

Grout Medic in Pittsburgh came to my house on December 30, fairly quickly after I contacted them. I requested grout repair in two bathrooms (2 floor perimeters and one shower floor perimeter) and grout cleaning of tile countertops in one bathroom. A proposal was sent to me via email on Jan. 7. I noticed the proposal stated caulking and not re-grouting. I replied to the email the same day: ?Beth ? thank you ? I am concerned by the word ?caulk? as I do not want caulk; I want grout which is the present material. I can get anyone to caulk around the perimeter of the bathrooms and shower. I assumed, perhaps incorrectly, that you would remove the old grout and put in new grout.? Beth did not reply. Thinking perhaps she missed my email, I resent it on Jan. 9: ?Beth ? can you please advise ? thank you.? Never heard back from her again. She totally wasted my time. I can only conclude that Beth does not like being questioned about their methods and she concluded, without the courtesy of explanation, that they will not do my house since I do not want caulk. If the company is called grout medic, then grout is the material I would expect them to use, not caulk. Most all caulk in a shower will mildew. Readers of Henri De Marne?s weekly column in the paper know that Sika Flex 1a is the only caulk that will not mildew but it will discolor over time. In addition, the price to ?caulk? these very small areas was $345.00 (plus $30 to clean the countertop). Perhaps if they were removing the old grout and applying new it would warrant that price but to run a bead of caulk around the perimeters of these very small areas, can be done by my handyman in less than an hour for $25.00. If Beth did not want to do the job, she should have stated so and why. Any contractor should gladly answer potential client questions respectfully asked. Just ignoring someone, rates an F in my book. It is disrespectful.

Response from GroutMedic
Yes I did say we would use caulking in the areas that you are referring ( around the perimeter of bathroom and the shower). The Grout Medic does use grout and caulking along with many other materials. We have been doing this for 11 years and we give our best recommendations for each job as we see fit. The reason I suggested caulking was the areas we looked at would only crack again if only grout was used. This was all explained during the FREE estimate. As for what we quoted, the old loose grout would have been removed and then caulked over. The price of $345.00 included work in 2 bathrooms. Cleaning tile/grout and sealing, patching grout on floor and regrouting perimeter and caulking and also caulking in a shower. This customer had another company out before calling The Grout Medic and some of these areas were missed by them leaving the customer unhappy. I feel it is very unfair to rate a company a F when they NEVER did work for you and you were given a detailed written estimate and this was explained during in home estimate. Your email was answered (maybe went to spam) and I did not disrespect you in any way. We always have someone answering and returning calls promptly, if you had any questions that were not answered. I gave you my professional opinion of the work that was requested. Sorry you did not agree with it.

This service provider was very good. They arrived on time and went to work immediately. They did the work in a professional manner and cleaned up nicely when done. This is a service that many people need, but most neglect until they have tile falling off, or water penetrating into the walls or ceilings below. I would recommend that people get this done in their ceramic tile shower surrounds every 2-3 years, or sooner if they have hard water. Great to know that Grout Medic is there, as we will definitely use them again in the future!
Description of Work: Re-grouted the tile on the lower part of my shower surround. Re-caulked all caulked areas of the shower surround, including around a window within. And finally they sealed all of my shower surround tile.

Hi [member name removed], My office can not fine records of us doing the job for you. Are you sure it was THE GROUT MEDIC? There are other companies that do the same type work. Your work was done in spring of 2013 and now just writing a review. If it was us that did the work and we were aware you had a problem with something we would have taken care of it. Customers being happy with our work is very important to us. Posting a review a year later and not talking with the company doesn't give the company a chance to service your needs.

This all went very well. Beth came out within a few days after my call and gave me two estimates. The first estimate was for cleaning and sealing the tile and floor in the main bath and cleaning and sealing the tile in the 1/2 bath at a cost of $210.00. The second estimate was for cleaning, sealing and applying a colored sealant in the main bath which would have added $275.00 to the cost. I chose the less expensive one, understanding that due to the age of the tile in the main bath the grout might not come back to full white. The grout in this bathroom was badly stained. It had not been cleaned since the house was built in 1951, and because the previous occupants were heavy smokers, it was heavily stained with nicotine residue. The technician, Brian, arrived on time and went right to work. He worked diligently and completed the work to my satisfaction. Although the grout did not come back to white, it was an acceptable almond color, which was much better than the yucky brown it had been before. I am pleased with the results, and recommend this company highly. I was having an event at my house and hoped that Grout Medic could complete the work before that, which was in a pretty short time frame. Beth told me that they might not be able to do the work in that short time frame, but had a cancellation and she worked me in. Very happy with that!

'First of all Beth showed up on time and was very efficient in assessing our situation, which was several 24 year old , 8" SQ ceramic tile floors with grout in need of cleaning. The kitchen alone was 16' x 24' and with 8" tile that's a lot of grout to clean. Within a day I had a quote which I found very reasonable. Beth recommended a colored sealer as it would be almost impossible to match the grout color when replacing the cracked tiles. With the quote came a set of papers telling us what to expect, what they would and would not do (disconnect appliances) and what we should do before, during and after the job. Everythiing was made clear before we agreed to have the work done. Our only disappointment was that they were booked solid for almost a month, but they were worth waiting for. Joe and Ray showed up several minutes late, they were coming to Monroeville from Youngstown Ohio on the day after labor day, but immediately got to work. The cleaned the entire floor surface, then went back over the grout a second time. They only used steam and a non-VOC detergent, which was great, no nasty fumes. All of the grout lines were hand-stained with a brush. The new tile were put in with a quick-set adhesive and we were walking on them the next day. On the second day, Ray came back by himself to finish the work. He was right on time and got immediately to work and was finished by 3:00 or so. It is impossible to tell which tiles were replaced. We've cleaned the grout before and even had it sealed before, but it has never looked this good. In addition to being very skilled craftsmen, Joe and Ray were respectful, polite, good natured and a pleasure to have in our home. . the only downside to the experience is that we can't put our furniture back for 72 hours to allow the stain/sealer to properly cure, but that's a characteristic of the material that was explained to us before we signed up, so will eat out for 2 days!
Description of Work: Cleaned the tile and grout and re-sealed the grout in our kitchen floor, powder room floor, and master bath floor. They also replaced 5 cracked tiles and removed and recaulked around the master bath shower and where the tile joined the baseboards. .

Steam Cleaning & Grout Sealing went fine, but when it came to replacing the shower floor grout they eventually just gave up - blaming my shower pan being wet. That would have been fine had they not taken my money & told me they could do the job initially - but leaving me with the job not done right was not appreciated & will not be forgotten.

Great Experience from start to finish!
Description of Work: Master Bathroom is 17 years old. Walk-in shower was all white tile with dark green marble trim. Grout throughout the shower (walls, ceiling and floor) was worn and molding. The GroutMedic came in and removed all old grout, steam cleaned tile and regrouted throughout and clear-sealed it. Shower was restored to a fresh clean like-new appearance. GroutMedic also removed the old worn and dirty grout in our guest bathroom and regrouted it with new grout and applied a sealer; thereby restoring that floor to a like-new condition. They also recaulked around bathtub area. Lastly, GroutMedic vapor cleaned the grout joints of the foyer, kitchen, laundryroom and hallway. This floor was new as of Auust, 2011, but had not been sealed. After cleaning the grout, The GroutMedic applied an Almond-colored sealer to the grout at a very reasonable cost. The company sent me pre-service and post-service instructions so that I knew in advance exactly what to expect, along with a limited warranty on the work completed. The employees were friendly and very professional. They were diligent to arrive on time and work until the job was copleted in the timeframe promised. This was a very good experience and I will use GroutMedic in the future, as well as recommend the company to my family and friends.

We would highly recommend this company. They responded promtly to our initial call, and the work was started within 2 weeks of doing the estimate. We have Carrera glass tile in our bathroom (installed in the 50's!), which can be tricky to work on. When they came to re-grout the bath/shower area, they discovered several very loose tiles, and were concerned that the very large, heavy central panel might be loose as well. The next morning Ed, the owner of the company, came to take a look and make suggestions. We were happy to find that the central panel was stable, so they re-attached the rest of the loose tiles and came back the next day to finish the grouting. They are also coming back to re-attach and grout a few small trim pieces (at no extra charge). Joe, Brian and John were on time, cleaned up perfectly, and obviously knew what they were doing and took pride in their work. It was a pleasure doing business with them, and we plan to have them come back and re-grout our tiled ceiling in a few months. We felt that the final cost was very fair, since they worked for 3 days, and had several "surprises" to deal with!

Not very good actually, because they pulled up so many tiles, we ended up having another buisness replace all of the tile in the bathroom. And how convienient of Grout Medic that they also lay whole tile floors! We asked Grout Medic for an adjustment on the 5 tiles they claimed to have repaired however they have refused. WE WOULD NEVER USE THIS COMPANY AGAIN!
Description of Work: They repaired one floor tile and steamed cleaned our tile counter top. They were supposed to repair 10 loose tile in our bathroom. but ended up pulling up approximately 25 tiles in the process. Also concerning the kitchen tile they claim to hve repaired 5 tiles however we know that only one was repaired.

Response from GroutMedic
I did not respond to this complaint sooner for I was not aware that one had been made from this customer. At the time of the estimate the customer was told that they had loose/hollow tile in several places, which they were also aware of. The work in the kitchen that was preformed was rebonding 5 loose/hollow tile and regrouting those tile as per customers written estimate. Customer states we only did one. This is a process where we take out the some grout by the tile or the grout where it is cracking and shoot a rebond product under the tile to fill the voids where they are hollow. If the tile are completely loose we will lift the whole tile and reattach, then grout. Which is the case where 1 tile was lifted and reattached and the other 4 were rebonded. We also steam cleaned and sealed the grout on the kitchen countertop as per written estimate. The customer was also aware that there were loose/hollow tile in the main bathroom. As we were doing the work in the bathroom preparing to reattach and rebond the loose/ hollow tile instead of 12 tile (as stated on the customers written estimate), 20 tile were loose. At this point we told the customer that we could reattach the loose tile at reduced rate because there were more then we had noticed at the time of the estimate. We also were very truthful with her stating that the rest of the floor tile may come loose in the future because of the original installation had some problems which is why her tile were coming loose in the first place. We did not pull up tile to get a job of installing a new floor for the customer. As any one knows who works with tile, that tile that are securely attached to a floor will not come up with out cracking. If tile come loose just by removing the cracking grout, the floor has issues before we even got there. I assume that is why the customer was seeking to have repair work in the first place, the floor had existing problems. Yes we did offer to install new tile for the customer which we do in case where it might be the best solution to a existing problem. We did not by any means try to generate installation work by doing any thing to the customer's floor or tile. We only tried to solve her existing problem with 2 options. The customer only paid for the work that was done nothing more.
