VAN NESS STONE COMPANY

I purchased a unilock stone. I spoke to the sales person there about the differences between my two paver choices. I was very disappointed in his advice. He told me there were no differences between the stones and just to pick the one i thought looked best. In actuality the stone i chose had very large variances in thicknesses making install a nightmare. It also was thinner than all the other pavers which does not allow for tamping it once laid, further complicating getting an even, level surface. Its that kind of knowledge that u expect from a distributor but was sorely lacking in my transaction. Furthermore, when the contractor was having difficulty getting it even, i contacted Van Ness and Scott told me that the thickness variation of each stone was only 1/16" and could not impact the patio being level. I later found out that the depth variation of this particular stone was actually as much as 1/4"! This resulted in several communication issues with my contractor. Had i been informed of all the stones limitations, i would have never purchased it. Given that this paver was one of the most expensive pavers, costing as much as bluestone and that they carried it for 4 years, that lack of depth of knowledge was inexcusable. Additionally, despite the fact that I purchased the stone with my personal check, don't expect that you will be treated by them as a customer. They are loyal only to the contractors that are doing the work, not the end customer. When I discussed with Scott why it hadn't been clearly communicated that this particular stone was thinner than other pavers and despite its variability, cannot be tamped down, I was told to discuss this with the Unilock representative. I later found out that immediately after my call, Scott proceeded to call my contractor to tell him of our personal conversation! What is that about? WHO DOES THAT! Horribly unprofessional. This review should come as no surprise to this vendor as i called him back to remind him that I paid over $7,000 for the stone and I am the customer not the contractor and that in my opinion what he did was very unprofessional.

Very good. Called, they helped me calculate how much i would need, set up the delivery and then they delivered exactly as promised.

They are very helpful when it comes to picking out the right stone for your project. Rocks and stone are reasonably priced. VERY good selection.
