The first few days went well. after that he did what he wanted and I had to live with it. He is a theif and I would not recomend him to anyone!
Description of Work: I called Dan Short Construction for a remodeling, he responded well at first. He gave me 3 quotes to remodel my house, I agreed to proceed. He started the renovations, and asked for a draw at the end of each month. He would bring you the bill and he would ask for the check right then. It did not matter the amount. My draw was 20,000.00 each month for three months. At the third month I called and told Dan Short I should have the renovation paid for, Mr Shorts response was, "OH no". He asked me if I received all of the quotes, I told him I dont know, I received three. He responded well there is 4 quotes. He then emailled me the 4th quote which was $40,000.00 dollars more. I told him I never saw it. He then tried to convince me he gave me this quote at the beginning. He didnt! Yes after three months he gave me a quote for 40% more than what was quoted originally. He then told me "well the work is already done" you will need to pay this as well. I told him I was not sure about this bill. We would need to talk about this invoice, anytime I tried to talk about it he always had to call me back. At the end of the 4th month he asked for the $40,000.00 balance. I told him I was not expecting this. I would have to get a loan for this amount. After about a week and a half of Mr. Short bugging me everyday for the money my loan went through. I was hesitant to give him the balance because the house was not finished. I went a head and gave him the money and then he disappeared and would not answer my call's. I have live Electric wires hanging out of the wall, and ceiling in my 7 year old daughters room. No cover plates over the outlets! Left plates off of the electric plug and switch in my kids bathroom! The below list is what he did not finish or looks so bad it will need to be redone by a real proffesional! Electric Plates off light switches. Did not hang ceiling fan and left live wires hanging. half painted the new 6 panel doors. painted the wall color on the ceiling. have paint on stained cabinets and new hand rails. Door stops were suppose to have stops on all doors, only have 5 out of 11 doors. Some stops installed did not have rubber piece on stop, metal hitting door. Carpet cut too short up against hard wood floors. Carpet freying. Ceramic tile is chipped on edges in shower and not cut straight. Had to use different faucets because Mr Short did not order until day before instalation. Have three different faucetts in three bathrooms. Rain shower head was suppose to come straight out and then point down, comes out in an angle and was not installed as I had asked. Was suppose to get tile shelves in shower, told me after shower was complete couldnt do it. Took a shelf out of linen closet and lost it and did not replace. Took things out of closet folded and threw items back in and did not care how they went back in, not folded, thrown! Baseboards, not painted in spots. No caulking around new shower in kids bathroom and drywall does not come down tight against shower. Shower cap around pipe out of wall does not cover up hole in wall. Had put heated floors in master bath, and heat stops 8" from cabinet. Had to have cloth furniture proffesionally cleaned. Hardwood floors stop 1" from built in dishwasher. Molding around front door was suppose to match front door, painted white. Ripped lamp shades and did not offer to replace. After all of this, the painter locked my dog in master bedroom for a whole day, and dog shreaded bed spread. Another day, he took him out of create and let loose in garage and he tore up bags of trash and got into boxes and tore up, tore up outside of garage door, steps, drywall, and around windows. He is 1 1/2 year old pup. I have over 190 pictures of what is wrong! Again have not seen him, or heard a response from him.

Mr Dan Short lied to me from the beginning, and kept lying through the whole process.
Description of Work: Dan Short Construction was supposed to hang slat board and build a closet. I asked Mr. Short for a quote and his response was told, he would charge his employee rate and materials only. I agreed to that, I asked about how many hours would it take, Mr Short said approx 40 hours. I was expecting a bill for around $1500.00 - $2000.00. I received a bill for $16,000.00, $7000.00 was for the slat board and materials for closet. This is $112.50 per hour per employee (2) for 40 hours. I questioned the charges when Mr. Short brought the bill. I told him this was very high and he said that was the charges. I told him the hourly charges were too high. His response was, can I get a check? I told him I would have to make payments and he said that was fine. I told him it would be September before I would make a payment. He said that would be fine. A week later I get a letter in the mail, he is putting a lean on my business because I was not paying.

The job was never started and they did not respond as promised.
Description of Work: I called and asked for a quote for a concrete pad. The person who took my information was pleasant and knew approximately where the job location was. I gave a detailed description of the job. The person with whom I talked with promised a return call by mid-day. After one month, I have never heard back from Dan Short Construction. I consider this very unprofessional and would not recommend Dan Short Construction to anybody. A professional response would have indicated their interest level and intent. Instead, they simply chose to ignore me.

We had a major renovation and the contractor was a man in Dan Short Construction and he's done a fine job for us. He was a principle contractor, he walked us through the whole thing. The people he brought in were terrific and he did a great job. He is a very creative and a conscientious guy and he obviously knows a lot of excellent sub contractors out in his area which is important. He put on a new roof on the house and garage. He did new gutters, siding, repaired concrete front, back and drive, renovated a basement room which involved replacing the ceiling, re-casing the windows, custom built furniture at one end for entertainment center, new lighting and rewiring, carpeting and so forth. It was a big project. He is a very personable guy. Everybody he brought in was excellent. All the sub contractors were really nice guys and they did the right stuff and it was great. His price was competitive.
Description of Work: We used the services of Dan Short Construction LLC in June 2010. He remodeled a basement room. He did countertops in the kitchen, siding, roofing and concrete work outside.
