Central Ohio Garage Door

I was amazed with the service. I never did get to meet him because my daughter was here but I would say he acted very professional.

I have twice used this company. The first time was to repair a garage door that was not closing all the way, and the second to replace the opener of the same door. The first time (repair) they willing to able to come out that day, but I scheduled an appointment for two days later. They fixed the problem for a small price ($75 or so). A couple of months later the garage door opener completely failed (it was over 15 years old). I called them and they were out the next morning on time and completely replaced the opener with a much better model that included a battery backup. It took them (there were two doing the job) only 45 minutes to complete the installation and they were gone. Great performance and service.

They have the option of coming to your residence. But given the cold weather, a warm garage was needed. There facility south Columbus was a short drive from my house in the Clintonville area.

Provider assessed garage door that was not functioning and recommended a replacement for the opener, but gave us options for repairs as well. They were very responsive and quickly installed the new opener.

The door still squeaks but it is 13 years old. The technician gave me some maintenance tips.

It is somewhat hard for me to review this company and I really wasn't planning on submitting a review. However, Angie's List was very persistent in emailing me about submitting a review. So, here it goes. I bought the Big Deal for the tune up. However, he came to my house, looked at my garage door for a few minutes and told me everything looks good and I don't need a tune up afterall. Felt like I wasted my money. They could be a very good company but at least look like you earned the $49.

They were great, they were very helpful and quick. They were very efficient in installing our new garage door opener. We had another piece of equipment in the garage door that was broken, they fixed that too. I highly recommend them to anyone installing a new garage door opener.

They were on time and courteous. Great service!

Everything turned out very good. Scheduling was very good. They were very prompt from the time we called them but they were slightly higher priced than others. They had to go back and get the part and they were back within the hour. We were very pleased with that they did for us.

Everything went great. Scheduling was fine and there was one technician here doing the work. He was great to work with and he taught me some tricks for the future. The price was equivalent to others.

It was pretty simple to schedule an appointment. They came and completed a basic inspection. There were no additional costs beyond the price of the deal. Everything was good. I didn’t have any issues.

It was an Angie's List Big Deal that I purchased. It went well. The gentleman responded and set the appointment quickly. The only thing I didn't clarify when I purchased it was I thought it was for both garage doors, and it was only one garage door. Nothing in particular stood out about them other than he was responsive.

With an exceedingly noisy garage door opener with resultant vibration effect on parts of garage ceiling, I consulted Angies List for garage door services and selected Central Ohio Garage Doors. I talked with Bruce Clark and told him I didn't know if the noises/vibration came from the thirty plus years opener, the rails the door travels on or a combination. Bruce immediately arranged for an inspection visit, scheduled at my convenience for the next day. Bruce arrived on time, lubricated all moving parts, informing me that the principal noises were coming from the screw drive from the electric opener, which he noted was an early model. The lubrication did reduce the noise & vibration; I told him that opener was over thirty years old and asked him for a quieter model. Bruce told me that the "Whisper Quiet" model would meet my satisfaction. Bruce examined the door, noting it was a very good one and in good condition, as were the rails the door travel on--he did not recommend changing out anything except the garage door opener. I asked him for an appointment time, he suggested the following day (2-12-14); Bruce arrived timely and quickly removed the old opener system and installed the new model (which also had newer safety features), and went through the operation of the new system, the remote and fixed controls, noting frequently asked questions on the new equipment. They removed all the old equipment and new garage opener system boxes. I was impressed with the timeliness of their response throughout this experience, and noted that they did not attempt to sell me anything--they serviced my old equipment and did not make disparaging remarks about the efficacy of putting off to the future a purchase of a new garage door opener. They did respond to my stated wish to obtain a newer, quieter model, but assured me my existing door and rails, which they had lubricated, did not need to be replaced.

I can't say a whole lot about it. He came out and squirted some WD-40 on the rollers and left. That was about what I got for $49. He didn't adjust it, he didn't do anything to it, so I don't think it was much of a deal. He was pleasant enough but he just didn't do anything. He was here on time.

Avoid this company at all costs. They are about to have their Better Business Bureau accreditation revoked. I initially hired Bruce Clark, the owner/operator of Central Ohio Garage Doors to replace two garage doors and two lift systems. I paid 50% down in cash. Installers failed to come at the scheduled time and Bruce was prompt in responding to this and installation was completed about two weeks later. (Installation was poor, though, and Bruce had to come out twice to correct problems. He did this at no charge, which is reasonable since the problems were a result of his employees). At the time of installation, one for the foreman demanded an additional $350, stating that the remaining 50% of the balance was too low and "couldn't be right." In good faith, I paid the additional money because I couldn't find the original invoice. This foreman stated that he had attempted to call Bruce but couldn't get in touch with him. I assumed that the overage would be remitted to me through simple accounts receivable on the company's end. I assume that any company with a BBB rating is able to match an invoice with a payment to make sure that they balance! Eventually I was able to locate the invoice and called Bruce to discuss remittance of the overage I had paid in good faith. He was defensive and demanded to know why I hadn't discussed with him months ago, especially as he had been out twice since installation to correct problems that his installers had created (bolts flying out, etc). I explained that I had mis-filed the invoice and that I thought he was aware of the matter since his foreman told me he would communicate the matter to him. He told me he would look into it. I sent him a letter in June 2013 reminding him that the matter was unresolved and I was still owed $350.00. He did not respond. I re-sent this letter via certified mail to the address on his original invoice. It was returned to me after several weeks. I sought re-dress with the Ohio Attorney General's Office who forwarded the matter to the Central Ohio Better Business Bureau. As of the end of January 2014, Bruce Clark has failed to speak with the assigned dispute resolution coordinator despite having been left multiple messages and being instructed to forward payment to me. From what I understand, the matter is now going before the BBB president. Central Ohio Garage Doors may lose its accreditation. The third time my garage door wouldn't open, I hired another company to fix it. They told me that the lift systems that Central Ohio Garage Doors installed (Genie belt lifts) are such poor quality that many reputable companies refuse to sell them but that the door quality was excellent. I gave him an F for quality with respect to customer service in regard to this matter and quality of installation. Its regrettable to give such a negative review, but it is definately deserved after having provided Bruce months to make ammends.

My garage door has been working like a charm since!

The chain fell off the 20 year old Sears unit and he said the unit needed to be replaced. I had purchased one of the "Deals" from Central Ohio Garage Doors for "Garage Door Service Call for $49!" a $96 value. But it turned out that that was not for repairs, but apparently for an oiling and tightening service. He said he would give me a credit of that amount for repairs. He said that if the chain falls off it almost always means that the gearbox has failed and a new one is needed. I wasn't home when he came. He replaced the Sears unit with a Genie model (genie is a good brand). The entire cost was $325 plus $49 = $374. In retrospect, that seems like a lot as Home Depot sells apparently similar Genie models for $140-$160. He didn't give a detailed receipt so I don't know the exact model number. The one he installed doesn't have an external keypad like the Sears did. So perhaps his labor was ~$200. It was a very cold day and he got it done very quickly. I think it would have been better to have a detailed receipt, showing labor and material and taxes separately, like most repair people use. If the unit ever needs a repair under warranty, I don't have any proof of purchase to show Genie. It also would have been better if I had been there to ask questions. Central Ohio Garage Doors did a clean, quick job and it works fine. However, I think next time I need something like this, I'll have a local handyman install a unit that I purchase at a store.

I will be using this company for all future garage door issues. They came out next day, but offered same day... They were fast and efficient at the installation, about 30 minutes. Also, when the box with the garage door replacement opener was opened and it had a more expensive belt drive, instead of the chain drive, they installed it and said they would not charge me more! Total cost with a new opener and outside remote installed was $370.

They did an inspection, they told us the matter which we kind of figured and then they came back and replaced it so we were happy. We had to replace the motor. I thought that they were honest and they were quick. When they put the motor back in, it was only half hour job so obviously they knew what they were doing.

He gave me an education and told me what he did. I had to bring things to his attention. I have not had any problems since. It was not worth the $50. I liked the guy. I hard time getting the appointment and he was on time. I would not use them again.

He (Bruce) showed up on time & for the first time in 5 years I can open my garage door with ease.

I think they were reliable and did what they were supposed to do. My husband kind of took care of that. Things did not go really wrong. I do not know if the price was a great value necessarily for what we had done, but we had to get it done. I do not think the guy was here very long. It was not something that he had to come back for three or four days to fix.

Another company refused to honor their installation by coming out free of charge only 2 months after the warranty was up despite having had to come out a previous time to fix another garage issue. I understand warranty issues, but when a garage has had so many problems within 15 months, it's unfair to charge someone for a service call again. With that, I purchased the Angie's List deal and couldn't have had better service. They arrived within 24 hours, fixed the issue immediately and were incredibly courteous and professional. I've taped their sticker over the other company and will use them anytime I have a garage issue. Thanks so much!

Went well, we are happy with their repair.

The garage door spring popped off on Saturday morning. I checked Angie's list, and Central had a service call deal. There were other companies on the list that provide 24/7 service, but their reviews were mixed, with many saying that the service person(s) tried to persuade them to purchase new doors, rather than attempting to repair the problem. I purchased the deal and phoned them 1st thing Monday morning. They said they could make a service call between 2:30 and 4:30. They arrived at 2:35. They recommended replacement of both coils, which I agreed to, because I vaguely recalled replacing them both when one failed over 10 years ago. They were finished by 3:00. The door opens more quietly than it did before. They were prompt, professional, and polite, and I believe that the cost was reasonable.
