Jack-Of-All-Trades

The service was good. it was mostly a one person team. He was prompt and did a good job. I am considering using them again and would tell a friend about them.

I purchased a big deal for this service. They did not come back when they said they would. They told me they were going to call me and they did not come back. After they did some of the things that I asked them to it was very shoddy and was not what I thought it was. I was very disappointed. At first he wanted to charge me more. I had given him a list of stuff that I wanted done and most of the list was for outside work, up on the roof. He did not bring a ladder to get up on the roof. I went to all my neighbors to see if I could get a ladder so he could get up on the roof. He said he would go back home and bring a ladder back, but he was going to charge me for it, I forgot how much it was. I told him I was not going to pay him any more. He told me he had another job in my area and that he would call me to let me know when he could stop back to do the work. He never called me. I even sent him an email on my computer and he never responded. My husband says he does not want to even talk to the guy any more. I even had him put a door in and take the wood off the previous door and put it in there. I supplied him with shims and he took the shims and put it underneath there so now we have to take the door out and re-do it. We also supplied him with the foam spray that you do around the door and he did not even do that. Plus, he cut the wires to our alarm. I did not notice it until after he was gone. The price for what he did was a piece of cr*p; it was not worth it. The only thing that he did that was half-way decent was in my closet and I think he spent 10 minutes in there. He put down some flooring and installed a strip. You can't mess that up. He did not really do what he was supposed to. He also put up some trim work inside and it was crooked. He was late to get here and it was hard to get him scheduled. I had to reschedule and I appreciated him being able to reschedule. He brought somebody but that person basically sat there and did very little. He did help him put the door up, but that was about it. The big deal said it covered one person for eight hours or two people for four hours so I think he brought the other person so he would only have to stay four hours.

While they were nice, personable and offered good, competitive rates, some their responsiveness, communication and follow-up were not so great. They were good and cooperative while here for the work.

I contacted Jack to provide an estimate for repairing and leveling the concrete floor in my basement. More specifically, the floor in the room where the furnace and hot water heater are located. I explained to Jack that the work he would be doing was in advance of a new furnace being installed, and that I would have the HVAC contractor de-install the old furnace and hot water heater to give him room to work. In addition to the 3 days that Jack said the leveling compound would need to "cure", plus the day of having the equipment de-installed, it meant that I would be without heat and hot water for 4 days before the HVAC contractor could return and install the new furnace, and re-install the hot water heater. Not only was I ok with that, but I coordinated the de-installation a day ahead of when Jack was scheduled to do his part of the work, and installation/re-installation for four days afterwards, with the HVAC contractor. In order to confirm that everything was on schedule with Jack, I began trying to contact him several days in advance of when he was scheduled to do the work at my house. Not only would he not answer his phone, he ignored my pleas to return my calls! The HVAC contractor was scheduled to do the de-installation today. However, because Jack would not answer his phone or return my calls, I was forced to call them and cancel the de-installation. Oddly enough, Jack immediately returned my call this morning after I left him an angry voice mail. He told me that he had not returned my calls because his mother had "had emergency surgery". And, that may very well be true. However, one would think that despite that he could have pulled himself together long enough (over the course of the last 3 days) to return my calls. Bottom line: had I paid attention to all of Jack's negative reviews, I would never have contacted him in the first place.

We had set an appointment and they did not show up or call me.

We have been communicating a little to line things up. They have been very open and easy to talk to.

How did it go? It went really really horrible, starting with the communications way back in the spring when they offered 3 hours of handyman services for $79. We set up a time, they cancelled. Then we set up another time. I had to cancel. Then it was impossible to get a respond from them for months and months. Finally, in late July I got a reply from them, via non-Angie's List email. We set up a time for them to come over. They showed up late. I mean like LATE. They said they tried to call but since my number had changed they were unsuccessful. That's a lick on me....that they couldn't get ahold of me via phone. However, there is no excuse for tardiness...especially when you take off work to be there to let them in. Since they were late I took a shower and didn't realize they were there until they had been sitting there for 20 minutes. When they showed up there were two of them. They installed the fan in a short period...BUT had to use my ladder as they didn't have theirs. (What?! Really?) Then they installed the garbage disposal. Unfortunately, I had to leave to get back to work, as I was late because they were late. I asked them to take care of a couple more things because they were only coming up on an hour of the three that I purchased. The owner, Jack, said that they would be all packed up and out of there shortly after I had to leave...because of the "fact" that there were two of them and that meant they were only obligated to be there for an hour and a half...PLUS...they couldn't get a hold of me when they were late so that was my fault and they had already been there longer than their allotted 90 minutes. So...even though both the tasks of installing a ceiling fan and installing a garbage disposal are ONE MAN JOBS they ripped me off by working 1.5 hours of the 3 that I bought, just because two people showed up for the job. AND add to that, it's my fault that those twenty minutes I was in the shower - only because they were late - and they were sitting out in front of my house, so they worked "longer" than the 1.5 hours if you include the twenty minutes. On top of all this, to add insult to injury, they hooked the garbage disposal up to the dishwasher like it always was...but when we ran the dishwasher it didn't drain. I contacted Jack via email, the exact way he & I communicated earlier, and got not response to resolve this issue. A whole month later I had an appliance guy from Day's Appliance (great company!) and after fixing my washer I had him look at the disposal. First thing he asked is if it was a new install. When I said yes he chuckled, took out a hammer and a punch and knocked out the blocking plug on the disposal that prevents leakage IF THERE IS NO DISHWASHER. The knuckleheads from jack's neglected this one simple step, causing an overflow from the dishwasher not draining. Do not use these guys. Period.

He called and said I was out of his service area.

They did a good job that was expected of them with couple of shortcomings. I had a deck that I built myself restored, they got all the stains and paints down, but they left the nail heads still popped up, but overall, they did a decent job and they got a passing grade.

After signing the contract, I gave him deposit and ask for his ID for my protection before he leave. He tear off the deposit check, and say if I do not trust him, he have nothing to do here. Horrible guy. I'm just wasted my time with him.

He didn't return my first call to him before the appointment. He was pleasant to work with but didn't return, as he promised, to put my grill and furniture back on my deck. When I called him twice about it, he didn't answer or return my calls. Very disappointing because he seemed a very nice guy. I'm not sure I'd use him in the future. If I did, I probably wouldn't give him the full payment until he fulfilled what he promised to do.

It went great! Jack was personable and professional! They cleaned up, and took care to protect the hardwood floors. I will be using them for future projects.

The work was inferior. The wood that he had replaced has already started popping up after one day. I'm very disappointed. He left the old planks in the back yard. I can't put my furniture back up on the deck until the work has been been corrected. I plan on contacting him to get this corrected.

The service went really poorly. We arranged a time and they came over. They were twenty minutes late and never called me to inform me. I told them my list and explained it would be more than what was included in the deal. They said they could do all of it and gave me the pricing. They did the beginning of the work and updated me after an hour and a half. He told me he could give me a flat rate so I didn?t have to worry how long it took them to complete the list. They worked through the day and around 2:30 I had to leave and I asked them if they would be done by 4 and they said yes. The house keeper at my house had to leave at 4 p.m. but they said they could finish the rest of the work from outside. They left piles of garbage at my house and unused pieces of materials in my house. I had written the check out to him personally because he said he didn?t have a business account which I thought was strange. When I went inside to check on the work some of it was not completed or it was poorly done when they told me they completed everything. I texted them saying I had paid this flat rate which was for 14 hours of their typical fees even though they only did eight hours of work. I asked them when they would be able to come back out to finish the work and they never responded to me.

The guys did not remove their shoes or use covers. In fact, they were kinda good old boys...r o u g h! They wanted to cut into the existing shower wall tile to install shelves. I explained to them the use of silicon. They were apprehensive but tried it. Of course, it worked. Despite voicing their opinions of the tile store clerk-who was excellent-that they thought knew nothing. Oh and guys, the notch in the front of the shelf..it's for water to drain from..if, that is, the shelf is slightly tilted.....nope they missed that! They also repaired the magnetic strip that holds the shower door closed with gorilla glue that I went out and bought while they were here. They used WAY too much and made a mess. Because they did not read the package instructions.

Service provider emailed me and said that he could not provide service until about a month outside of the time I needed it done, so I needed to cancel and get a refund.

Everything turned out well. The company responded quickly, the handyman arrived on time, and he did a good job in all respects. However, I do wish that he had done a better job of cleaning up after himself.

I called him several times ,worked out price,agreed to it verbally, then called to schedule 5-6 times--he would not answer or call back --had to get somebody else to do job ---UNRELIABLE

I purchased an Angie's List deal. The deal said that we were in the service area for the provider. The provider emailed me to tell me that the deal contained a misprint, and that we are NOT in their service area.

Jack is a friendly but very professional guy. He came out to do the estimate and knew exactly what I would need to have on hand for the two very different jobs -- installing a section of fence and replacing metal legs that support my sink. I ordered the fence sections, posts and concrete mix and he picked it up from the supplier for me. He had a helper but he supervised whatever work he did not do himself. Both jobs were completed to my satisfaction. I will work with him in the future.

He was on time, did good work. It took him quite a while for the grab bars in the kitchen. The things he did, he did well. He said he would build a concrete wheelchair ramp, but never came back and now he won't answer my calls.

Scheduling has been an issue, although Communication with this vendor has been fine. I've decided to forego the work I planned to have done and will revisit Angie's List once I need it completed.

Everything went fine on the day of the job. They were 15 minutes early and got to work right away. We had a little trouble communicating beforehand via Angies list messages and some confusion about buying supplies but it all worked out. It seemed weird to me that he would make a big deal about a $7 item. Seemed to be missing the big picture on that one. It ended up wasting some of his time and my time but it all worked out okay in the end and I would hire him again.

It went very well, most of the work was fixing the fixtures that I tried to fix myself so they repaired them. This included the Fan/Light in the Bedroom, a fixture needed the bulb removed from the fixture in the living room, also fixed a fan/light fixture, the fixture in the hallway I could not not put a bulb in the fixture, so he made it so I could put it in without a problem, did the same with the fan/light in the kitchen.. Also installed a vent in my basement. I had asked Jack if he could come back to do other repairs, he gave me estimates on what it would cost. Also when they were here, they removed brush, twigs, and bushes and mowed area where weeds and poison ivy had appeared and mowed it down and then sprayed the area to kill the poison ivy.Cleared away the bushes, brush and twigs and put them in bags to be picked up by Rumpke. Will come back at another time to clean, and clear the rest of the area. He gave me an estimate of $175.00 to do this.

It was great. It was really good. We hired them extra because they were good. It was $500 in additional to the $79. I would use them again. They were honest and they did a good job. They were fine and very good.
