The Hale Construction Company kept in close contact by phone and email throughout the multiple steps of the project. Their designer was wonderfully helpful in selecting a fun new bathroom tile design, meeting with us in person at a large (overwhelming) tile supplier's showroom. Workers showed up on time as scheduled and were courteous and professional, protected our hardwood floors, and cleaned up appropriately. The workers graciously tolerated our yappy dogs. The entire project was finished on time and the quality of work was superb. It was well worth the slightly higher cost than other contractors for the total lack of hassle factor. We will call Hale first for our household projects.
Description of Work: A leaking toilet upstairs resulted in rain downstairs. The toilet and wax ring was reset, the boring white tile and damaged subfloor removed, and new subfloor and tile installed.

The Hale Construction Company removed the gutters and hauled away. They also removed an overgrown and evil shrub covered in tiny needle-like thorns. We debated colors and they painted samples on the wall in an unobtrusive area for us to choose. The finished product was exactly what we wanted and finished on time. The Hales stayed in close contact throughout the project by telephone and email.
Description of Work: Whole house exterior painting, walls and trim.

It was great! I trust Hale Construction 100%. They are thorough, respectful, competitive in pricing, and great workmanship. They will tell you when something isn't a good idea, even if it means losing income for themselves. They are very pro-customer. On one occasion, one of their men phoned me at work because my dog was having trouble getting up. They took my dog& met me at the vet. Not everyone would be so kind, generous & caring! I have also never felt awkward about having their people in my home while I am not there. This is not the case with other contractors I have used. My cousin builds homes in another state & is always impressed by the workmanship that the folks from Hale provide. I would use them again & again for big projects & small. Can't say enough great things about this firm.
Description of Work: Fixed my AC, installed a light & cleaned my gutters. They have done many other projects at my home: simple handyman projects, custom shelving to match the period of my home, reside house, replace driveway, rehab full bathroom (it looks fantastic, by the way!!!), replace roofing, installation of kitchen tiles & backsplash, install chandelier, etc.
See above. I accidentally put this part above and I could not copy and paste it to this area where it belongs. Overall, it was maybe the most unpleasant experience I have had working with anyone regarding repairs/rehab of my home in the 41 years of home ownership. It is hard to believe that a 5 x 8 bathroom could be under construction around 15 weeks for a job that they initially said was probably 3 weeks! In fairness, they had to wait about a week for a plumbing part to come in. It was not their fault that it was missing. BTW, the charge by Hale Constuction did not include the cost of the toilet, the marble sink, the towel bars/toilet paper holder, the faucets/shower head for both the sink and shower, the mirror, the light fixtures or the fan/light over the tub. I personally paid for those items separate from Hale's final bill of just uner $10,000. I was very disappointed not in their price, but in the process, the fact that there was no one supervising the work, and all the problems along the way. In addition, there is nothing in this evaluation that I did not bring up to them as the problems occurred.them.
Description of Work: I had a small 2nd floor full bath torn down to the studs with everything new installed. New walls, plumbing, fixtures, flooring, custom vanity, marble tub surround and sink top. I contracted with them because I liked the owner, Andrew Hale, when he came to the house and gave me the bid. It was more than the other bid I received but I like Andrew better and felt that his company would do a good job. I had also heard from someone I knew in New Albany that they thought his company would do a good job for me. WRONG! From beginning to end there were problems. I would also like to say that I have one full bath (the one they were renovating) and one half bath. I was without a shower in January and February for SIX weeks and had to go to the neighbors to shower every day...in the winter. They started about the second week of January and I paid the final bill May 14, 2012! 1. Andrew never came back to supervise the job even when there were problems unless I insisted and made an appointment for him to come.. 2. The first day when they were demolishing the walls and removing my old cast iron tub, the pounding knocked plates and a clock off of my wall in my kitchen. No one suggested that I remove anything or I would have. Katie, Andrew's wife who was the my contact, gave me a very difficult time when I asked to be reimbursed for the broken clock only...under $30.00 and she complained. I ended up deducting about $25.00 of the final bill. In addition, they knocked a hole in my kitchen ceiling that day. They repaired the hole but did not repaint. I had to pay a painter to repaint my whole kitchen ceiling. 3. The shower wall was not level (put in by their workers). When I came in and looked while the marble tile was being installed on that wall, it was totally out of plumb and actually sliding a bit. I asked him to take it off and do it right. It was unbelievable to me that he could not see what was happening. He did change it and do it right. I was lucky to have come home for lunch and have seen the problem before the tiles had set up permanently. 4. The marble tile was misordered by Hale Co., so they ran out and had to search for more. It did not match very well, but there was not a choice short of taking down EVERYTHING and starting over. Having been without a shower for 6 weeks, I just wanted it done so I did not have them replace the entire shower marble surround. 5. I came home one evening early in the process, went to my basement about 9:30 on a Friday evening to find water running through it. The plumber had shut the water main off, and when he turned it back on, it started leaking. Another worker saw water in the basement but never said anything about it to me or anyone else. A total mess! The company did send someone over around 10:30 PM to help me. 6. They replaced drywall in my hall where they removed the plaster wall in order to get to the plumbing. It was done poorly. There was about 1/2" gap between the drywall and the baseboard where you could actually see into the wall as well as being somewhat "wavy". It took the drywaller 3 times to finally get it right. 7. They never used dropclothes at the front door and often did not clean up there messes. When I would speak to Katie about this issue, she did ask them to do better and for the most part, they did. 8. One of the workers would lay his equipment on the new toilet seat, the new ceramic tile floor. Both were scratched. Toilet seat got replaced and they worked on the floor several times to rectify that problem. 9. Tthe custom woodwork that they milled was not sanded (I did it myself), and poorly installed, in my opinion, in that every joint had caulking or woodfill. It did not look professional. I spent alot of my time working on it to make it look better. Because of all the problems I had along the way and the lack of confidence that produces, I hired someone else to do things. I hired someone to hang the mirror, rehang the towel bars which their worker did wrong. I also did not have them paint the room because of all the problems. By the time it came to the final step of painting, I just did not trust it would be done right. I just wanted them gone!
