Tim Beckett, owner, assisted me in remodeling my 1964 ranch home concrete unfinished basement on a very tight schedule as my daughter had to unexpectedly move back home QUICKLY. Tim listened to my concerns and my needs of what my ideas were to design and set up an apartment style basement for my daughter to temporarily return home too. Tim sat down and drew out a sketch based on what I wanted and where I wanted a small kitchenette area to include tile floor area, sink, microwave, fridge etc ( purchased the microwave - a smaller sized refrigerator myself ), a small living area, ( I could fit an oversized love seat with consoled - 42" TV with stand, small computer desk with chair / 2 file cabinets and a medium size club chair for her living space. The full bath with oversized 3x4 stand up shower, toilet, tile floor and 30 inch vanity cabinet and porcelain sink. (I purchased a small medicine cabinet to be installed over the vanity). Then I requested an oversized sleeping room which I specifically wanted an oversized closet (not a walk in closed but a 7.5 long closet and I requested a basic French glass double door to be used on this room instead of a regular door so that the room didn't appear to be "closed in". The intent was to use this room later upon my daughters departure as a computer / office space where small bed could still be utilized if needed / wanted and also still have room to put a large piece of exercise equipment if wanted (ie: elliptical or treadmill etc). My daughters bedroom furniture set consist of a queen size bed / full dresser / full armoire chest and 2 bedside tables. My furnace and gas water heater also were located in the "middle" of the basement and I asked Tim to enclose these 2 items but still make it "fit" and "flow" into the design of the room. I also asked him to put double doors with a light for this room and it was big enough where I could put a small amount of supplies (ie; furnace filters - daughters vacuum cleaner and steam mop and misc) into this space. I had a very specific budget and was upfront / honest about "what $ I could spend and Tim was thoughtful and let me know that he would do his best to stay on budget and give me my "wish list' items. He helped a lot by asking if I was willing to utilize items that were in his inventory that were not used in the past but were older more out-of-date items, such as some older light fixtures, older bathroom vanity & sink - older style kitchen cabinets, very basic ceramic tile less expensive tile that matched in the kitchen and bath area. He also replaced my basement windows - nice white pull out style because I didn't want glass block windows. The nicest surprises were when he crafted a smaller wood decorative basement stair rail handle for my basement steps. I thought I was going to get the standard old basement drop down ceiling with fluorescent lights - but that would not do for Tim. He put in a ceiling and canister style lighting thru-out because he remembered how much I said I wanted lots of light so that it didn't make my daughter feel like she was in a dark gloomy basement. Tim only wants you to have "timeless classy" as I call it, style even on the most basic of budgets. My basement is not that big and for what I wanted, and what I needed for my daughter. Tim's ingenuity with design, forethought, and by truly listening to what his client wants and also being mindful of schedules and budget costs - I was more than pleased at what he accomplished all the way around. Tim has a small crew - his son was just as easy to work with and worked just as hard as his father. He also had his specific plumber / electrician / drywall / etc etc on sight and he was on the job not only directing but working side by side to make sure it came together as needed. The only reason I didn't rate this with a 5 star rating was that the daily clean up of debris at the end of the work day should have been picked up and taken offsite for disposal as I nearly tripped a few times over loose electrical cords and debris etc when I had to go downstairs to do a load of laundry in the back area of the basement. Secondly some of the drywall areas were not smoothed over and the seams not completely covered in one small are of the rebuild. Other than that - I couldn't have been more thrilled because I truly believe Tim went "far and beyond" to give me the best value for my dollar on this rebuild. I spoke to 3 contractors and chose Tim because of his responsiveness, his sincerity to work with the client and that I absolutely had no issue of trust and went to work and I gave him access to my home so he could get the job done on my tight schedule. I came home for lunch a few times to see how things were going and he was always here as I requested overseeing everything and then I would return to work. I had no issues with leaving the 3 or 4 guys (to include Tim) in my home while I was gone. My stipulation was that Tim would always need to remain here at the house with his team while I was away during the day. He happily complied. Tim would call me frequently to check in to ask me any questions that he thought I would need to know. As a single woman who has never worked with a contractor ever before - let alone take on such a large project - I can tell you I felt very overwhelmed at the thought of trying to do this and Tim and his son never once made me feel like they couldn't work with me for any reason. Tim's FIRST and BIGGEST concern is that you LIKE his work. He has a great website showcasing some of his more "eleaborate custom jobs" - Tim 'specializes in the remodel of BASEMENTS. His work - his craftsmanship and his business sense coupled with good judgement is what has made his small company survive these many decades. I try to support small business as best I can and would recommend Tim and his Beckett Construction team HIGHLY to anyone who needs to consider a basement remodel. Sincerely - Donna (a Very Happy Client) u
