The Kitchen Design Studio

The Kitchen Design Studio (KDS) and Innerwood were great to work with, the quality of their work is excellent, and their customer service is among the best I've experienced. Three times during my remodel they stood behind the product that they had sold to me and fixed something that was not their fault. The first and biggest of those issues was with my granite. To make a long story somewhat short, the granite fabricator that KDS used at the time, a company that is well-known in the city, sent a different installer to my home than the one that KDS requested. That installer did a terrible job. My granite was not level and there were large gaps between the wall and the granite. Dan Huber from KDS/Innerwood arranged to meet with a representative for the fabricator at my home; during that meeting the fabricator admitted that their installer had not followed certain protocols yet they refused to correct the problem saying that even though it wasn't a good job it was within "acceptable variation" and they would not fix it. The following Saturday Dan came to my home personally to fix my granite at his own cost. Dan brought an expert installer with him and the two of them worked for three or four hours to fix my granite. They had to adjust cabinets back to where they were before the botched granite installation (the granite installers had insisted that some of them be moved by my contractor) and work around my farmhouse sink so it wasn't an easy task. In addition to going to the extra work and expense, Dan was very pleasant about the entire situation. The second situation where KDS/Innerwood stepped up involved my kitchen cabinets. There were some dings to my cabinets that could have happened in transport or during installation. I'm told that the installer is supposed to inspect the cabinets for dings between unpacking and installation and document any problems. My contractor had not done that; even so, he absolved himself of any responsibility for cabinet dings. At that point KDS/Innerwood assumed all responsibility and had a furniture repair company come in and touch up my cabinets at their expense. The third situation was with a drawer that had been damaged during installation. Once again that was not the fault of KDS/Innerwood but they insisted on fixing the drawer for me in their shop so my final product would be nice. My experience with KDS/Innerwood was complicated a little because they were not doing my entire remodel but they still stood behind everything I purchased from them as if they were. I so wish I had found them before signing the other contract because they were one bright spot in a very stressful and long remodel. I think my all-around experience would have been much better if KDS/Innerwood had been doing everything. I highly recommend them.

Pricing was good in comparison to the competition (we searched from custom cabinet makers to places like Lowe's and Home Depot). Customer service was OK - not great, but not horrible. Our rep really worked with us to try to get what we wanted at a price we could afford. She was very willing to work with us overall. The cabinets are great, function as they should, and look very nice. I'd use them again. Their showroom was under construction when we were purchasing, so it was difficult to get a good idea of the final product we'd be getting. But once their showroom is finished, it should be easier to see examples of finished products.
