Easy. Tom got back to me quickly with a quote (which was well below the competition), called/emailed shortly thereafter to schedule the job, came on time (early, actually), provided pictures and advice, and left the job site spotless. The cap looks like it should hold up for years to come.

I first contacted Tom in the spring of 2017. I had previously gotten some estimates in 2016 and wanted one more estimate before making a choice. After I got Tom's estimate, I responded to have him do the job. I didn't hear anything about a potential work date so after a month or so I called back and was told that it would be in late June. The crew came the week of the 4th of July. After working for a full day, they tarped the chimney. They could not work the next day due to heavy rains. They did finish the following day. Several days later my out of town guests left and I went upstairs to pay bills including writing a check to Brickworks. That's when I noticed that there was damage to the slanted ceiling on the down side of the chimney. I wrote Tom a letter saying that my first guess was that this had occurred during construction when the chimney was tarped but that I was pleased with the look of the new chimney and I wrote the check. Tom called me when he received the check, acknowledging my note about the ceiling damage and said he wanted to come by to see it. I told him to call me anytime he was in the area. That was the last I heard from him. A week ago (around the first of November) I was upstairs sewing and it started raining hard. That's when I noticed that rainwater was dripping from the ceiling and pouring down the chimney inside the room. I had to move all the furniture close to the chimney to avoid water damage. I called and left a message on Tom's cell phone saying that something was very wrong and to please call me. Meanwhile I pulled down the ceiling, bagged up drenched insulation, and put towels around the chimney. The next day Tom called me. He said they had examined my roof and that there was nothing wrong with the chimney. He said I needed a roofer; that there were cracked shingles on the ridgeline and that my roof was old. (It isn't; it is less than 7 years old). I said that I really wanted to show him the area inside the house around the chimney that had experienced the water damage. His reply was that there was nothing wrong with the chimney; it wasn't anything he had done. Needless to say, I was very upset. I had given them the benefit of the doubt initially when I noticed water damage in my attic after they had redone the chimney. It was my mistake to think that the water damage had occurred during construction and that it was a one time thing. Later this week I had a roofer come to give me an assessment of the problem. He told me that the flashing was not up to code for Butler County and that it was obvious to him why I was experiencing water damage inside the house. At this point I need to have the chimney re-flashed correctly. Needless to say, I am very disappointed with the service that this company provided.

Tom and his crew were timely, efficient and did excellent work. Their scaffolding went up on our garden stone staircase and we they were finished you wouldn't even know they were there. Masonry work on chimney was top notch. The fee for service was quite reasonable.

It went very well! They even replaced other brick that was loosing its facing and repaired some other motor. They worked quickly and efficiently. They protected our driveway and even put planks on the lawn to protect it from the weight of the heavy wheelbarrows. When they were done there was no evidence that they were there except to see a great looking chimney top! Thanks guys!!!!

Well. We are back to burning our firewood again.
Description of Work: Our chimney was apparently struck by lightning. Tom and his crew traveled 60 miles to work on it. They worked in the cold promptly to get our chimney usable again. Our primary source of heat in the winter is our wood burning stove. They even attached our TV antennae to their scaffolding so that we could continue to watch TV while the work was being done. We were very pleased and satisfied with their work. They went out of their way to help us.

Tom and his team were great to work with. We have a dog and 2 small children and Tom and his crew were very respectful of them and would make sure to put up a gate in the working area and let us know when they were done. Tom was very responsive and the final bill was dead on the estimate. II had a few other bids in the same range but liked the responsiveness of Tom and his team. They were very fast and efficient getting the whole job done in under 3 days. The work looks great and I would recommend Tom and his crew for any chimney work you need.
Description of Work: Take down current chimney 30 courses, match brick and rebuild. Pour new chimney crown and add rebar reinforcements and drip edge. Sealed chimney and installed new stainless steel flue topper. As did tuck point work inside the firebox.

Tom came within a day or two of my first call to him, looked at the job and gave me a verbal estimate, which he later modified in his written estimate (a $200 increase). The chimneys needed to be swept first, which we scheduled as soon as we could. I knew Tom was about to go on vacation, so I e-mailed to ask to get on his schedule. I didn't hear right away, but received an e-mail on October 12 telling me they would be over that day. Unfortunately, we were out of town and there was a car in the driveway, blocking the work site. Fortunately, a helpful pet sitter was able to move the car. Had we had a little more communication, we could have solved that. That's the reason for the 'B' on responsiveness. Even with the small increase, Tom gave us a very reasonable quote compared with others, and his crew did the work in about a day and a half. They were friendly, professional, and left the site totally clean. The final product looks great and should last us for years.
Accepted the fact that we had no specific appointment but figured it would get done in a timely fashion. When nothing was heard by the first of October, 6 to 7 weeks later, I called, left two messages and even an email? nothing. No response. If he didn't want the job, don't bid it and I would have moved on instead of waiting for a repair that would never happen.
Description of Work: Came by, gave a bid to fix chimney, said it was a simple job and would take care of it in a few weeks to a month as it was so quick and easy.

The Chimney Man came over the day I first called to look at my fireplace and chimney. (I had just had them cleaned and inspected and was told that my back refractory panel was cracked and unsafe for using and that there was some damage to my chimney chase cover requiring a small patch to prevent leaking in the future). He said he would look for a refractory panel replacement and I asked how long before he would contact me. He said Friday...two days hence. I heard nothing nor was a message left. I called him again the next Monday and again he came to my house and said that he couldn't find a refractory panel as thick as the one I have and suggested either using a thinner one plus modifying the the holding bracket or trying a repair with special mortar. I said I think it was worth trying the repair. He said they would come back the next day, Tuesday, and do both repairs. I said that I had a hair appointment in Kenwood at 1pm. He said that they would be here by noon. I knew that was cutting it close but I was able to get my appointment changed to 2 pm, just in case. I waited, never leaving the house, until 1:40 pm but no one showed up to do the work. He never called, never left a message. I texted him the next day or two and said that there must have been a mix up and could we reschedule. I have never heard from him. I was very disappointed because he was so prompt the first day. He seemed nice, knowledgeable, well groomed and I guess I was hoping he would be better than that all too typical treatment that I and my friends and neighbors have experienced all too often.

Tom did a great job and he and his team were really professional. They responded quickly, worked quickly, and cleaned up really well. They did a fine job communicating and I felt very comfortable with his assessment of my chimney issues given his experience in the trade. I would use him again gladly, though it will have to be on other chimneys as these are good to go!

When I called Tom for an estimate, he responded quickly, explained what needed to be done, and showed me pictures of the damage on his cell phone. He gave me a bid immediately, and it was much lower than a competitor's bid. Tom found bricks that match the existing brick very well. His crew was quiet, professional, and cleaned up afterward.

We had a crack in the board that is positioned in the back of the fireplace. As a result I was afraid to use the fireplace in the event the fire reached behind the board. Christmas was almost upon us and I unfortunately hadn't gotten it fixed. I called Tom, explained the situation, and he said he would come out the next day to determine whether or not the fireplace was safe to use. He came to the house the next day, and told me in fact it wasn't safe. He said he would try to find a board quickly to replace the cracked board so that I could use my fireplace over Christmas. True to his word, Tom found the parts needed (apparently not an easy task) and installed the new board right before my company was due to arrive.

I was at work, yet he came same day I called and carefully explained everything to me from his mobile phone. His pricing was good and he even sent a photo of his work (example of another completed job) over email -when his internet was down and had to send from another place. He even went so far as to advise that it was quite cold to do some required roof repairs due to eliminating one of my non-functional chimneys and it might be better to do the job in another way or at another time. Since I was in a pinch with a pending sale on my home, I ended up going with a roofer for entire job because the roof was the more critical piece to keep the sale from falling through. Thought if it were strictly chimney work or under different circumstances, I would definitely have gone with Tom and quot;The Chimney Man - Brickworksand quot;

To prevent damage to our brick chimney from rainwater, we needed to have the damaged concrete cap on our fireplace chimney replaced, or possibly repaired and waterproofed. We looked on Angie's list and saw that the and quot;Chimney Manand quot; was located in nearby Milford, OH and decided to give him a call. He came to our house the same day we called, inspected the chimney and gave us an estimate. He told us he would be back on Monday morning to remove the old chimney cap, build a form for the new concrete cap, and pour the concrete. He also said that he would be back Wednesday to remove the form and finish the job. He was here when he said he would be here, and finished the job when he said he would. We are very pleased with the work he did, the new chimney cap design looks great with the concrete surround set at an angle to shed water away from the brick.

He was very nice. I would say that he was friendly, and he explained everything to me and just said that what I thought needed to be done was not what the problem was. My house was built in 1939, and I had some plaster problems, and I thought may be the water was getting in through the brick, but he explained to me that was not what's happening. I thought it was disappointing that he couldn't help me, but he was straightforward. Practically what he said was he was not going to do something and charge me for something that didn't need to be done, so I was very happy with him. He listened to me what I was asking him, and then he explained to me why that was not the problem. I talked to him on the phone, and he told me when he would be here, and he was here right on time. I would certainly use him in the future if I have a problem that he can solve.
Description of Work: I had Brick Works to come out and look at some plaster problems I was having. I thought may be the water was getting in through the brick, but he explained to me that was not what was happening.
