The entire job went REALLY well and I would highly recommend that if you are in need a clean, respectable, professional, HONEST handyman - All Around Joe is your man! He prides himself in good, clean, honest work. He was always there to do the job and did not send someone else which I really liked. I will hire him again!
Description of Work: All Around Joe installed a bathroom vent fan where he had to remove a light fixture, install the fan, run duct work, and punch out of the side of the house for the exhaust. He was very informative when he was explaining the work that needed to be done as I was concerned about punching a hole in the side of my house. He was clean, quiet, and VERY professional. He also laid ceramic tile in our walk-out basement entrance area and bathroom. When he quoted the job we had carpeting down. When he came back and realized there was a lot of leveling of the floor that needed to be done he again explained in detail what needed to be done, how he recommended it be done, and provided a cost PRIOR to doing the work. He was also very honest about how much more additional time this would take and asked if he could return at a later date so he would not have to be rushed. He completed the work in 3 days and it was of high quality, clean, and professional. He had a lot of cutting to do and all cuts are clean and straight.

Joe came out to bid the job, was very professional, gave a good price and estimated 3 days work. I was moving in December 1st so he even made sure to do this job a couple weeks after the bid, before thanksgiving holiday so I could move in worry-free. He came with two other guys, removed the ductwork, temporarily supported the house so he could replace the termite & water damaged wood. Incredibly dirty job! He found additional damaged wood on some joists after removing the ductwork, and for an extra charge (as previously agreed upon for unforeseen work), added support to those areas. They finished in two days with the all the work, including the extra support. The old wood was so rotten that they actually lifted the floor by a couple of inches, and even with plaster walls, didn't make any cracks. Real carefully worked and good job done. The house has some old knob and tube electric that hasn't been replaced and after this job (which required cutting some wires and splicing them back afterward) there were two ceiling fixtures and a couple outlets that were no longer functional so I called Joe about this. For an extra charge they came back the next day to check this out. They ran some new wire and tied it into a couple existing junction boxes. The electrician Joe had with him didn't do a clean job, although he fixed the problem. The wiring job for the different areas and the light fixture left hanging via wire (not screwed back into the mounting bracket) are the reasons I gave a B for quality. But that may have been the electrician's fault. Joe impressed me but that electrician definitely did not. The electrician (who said he was licensed) said there were some serious problems with my electrical system so I called in a couple of electrical contracting companies with A ratings to get their opinion and a bid on upgrading the system. They disagreed with him. The only problem I know of (other than knob and tube recommended for replacement) is one breaker in each unit (two family house) that trips for no reason, so I keep those two breakers off. Other than that, I haven't tripped a breaker in the 7 months living there. I would definitely use Joe's services again.
Description of Work: Replace 16 ft section of main wooden beams supporting the house from the basement. Additional structural support for bathroom and stairs.

Joe's business associate, Jason, showed up 10 minutes early and immediately got to work on the list of repairs that I provided for him. He was very friendly and professional and after couple minutes of conversation I was pleasantly surprised.......great service behind a friendly face is a rarity these days. After about 2 1/2 hours, Jason was able to thoroughly complete a project list that would have taken me days to finish. I was so satisfied with the results that I have already scheduled an appointment for Joe to give me an estimate on a kitchen remodel and some additional exterior work. I cannot say enough good things about All Around Joe and I would absolutely recommend them to anyone looking for quality results at an awesome price. Actually, when they gave me the bill, I felt like I was robbing them.

Joe accommodated my schedule since I was in from out-of-town for just a week at my mother's house. He spent the whole day with us, prioritizing our list to get the critical items done that day & scheduling a second visit to do additional items. Joe is a true problem-solver. He modified the shower stall so that my mother is able to utilize a mobility bench in it now. He suggested several safety modifications we hadn't even considered. When he found a problem with the wiring in an outdoor lamp, he repaired it. If he noticed something that needed fixing, he pointed it out. That is exactly what we wanted him to do! Joe pays terrific attention to detail. He is very thorough & extremely considerate. My mother is thrilled to have him as her handyman, and I feel very comfortable knowing he will take care of her problems in a very fair & safe manner.
Description of Work: We had a long list of needed updates and modifications to my mother's home including: install water softener, remove shower door, replace hard-to-reach lightbulbs, change storm door to screen door, clean gutters, modify wheelchair ramps for safety, etc. We had too many items to do all at once, so he will return to: paint doors, power wash deck & furniture, move dryer vent, replace spigot, etc.

He came out to do the work and he noticed my house is built on a slope and he would need additional equipment to complete. He needed a scaffolding to clean the whole house and it seemed like it was a 3 story house and he could nto reach that with what he had. He was honest with me about the and the additional cost. I decided not to use the BD, but he did give me a brouchure for other work he and may call him for that.

Having been impressed with Joe Wood by how he dealt with some issues following a pressure washing job his company had done for us, we hired him to create a new stamped texture cover for our garage attic access and to repair a hole in the popcorn ceiling of our kitchen that had been cut out to repair a leak from a soil stack. Joe and Dennis came out and the new attic access cover was done without incident. Joe told us he would try to get a close approximation to the original ceiling texture, and although it is different, it blends well enough not to stand out. The repair of the hole in the kitchen ceiling was far more difficult. After doing the drywall repair to close up the hole, Joe first tried using a can of the popcorn texture spray, but the first can wouldn't spray, so he had to go get another. He didn't like the way the spray came out of the can because it was difficult to control. He scraped the texture off and tried applying it again with shorter bursts, but still didn't like the results, so he scraped it off again. He tried applying the texture with a roller but that caused the existing popcorn around the repair area to come off. He tried using a paint brush without good results. Joe ended up reapplying the texture he'd scraped off with a sanding blade or wide putty knife. The new texture looked thicker on one side with some lines left by the blade so he went over it to get it more even before he left, but he thought it might need touching up so he planned on coming out again. Joe called me later that afternoon to say he had gone to Menard's and found a popcorn texture gun, had been practicing with it, and thought he could do a better job with it. By that evening the texture repair he'd done had dried and had a cracked appearance, like soil in a drought. Joe came back out the next afternoon, after another job, and did not like the original texture which he saw was "crackled". He tented off the repair area with a cardboard box, metal extension poles, plastic sheeting and a drop cloth to help contain the spatter from the popcorn texture gun. He scraped off the bad texture, applied a very thin coat of drywall putty/mud so the surface would be white underneath, then applied the new texture. Joe said he didn't want us to pay him until we were satisfied with the repair, and I was to call him after it was dry and let him know how it was. The texture did look much better once it dried, but there was a recessed, rectangular border, that looked grayer. When I called Joe and told him about it, he said it was probably from using the cardboard box, and he would come back out and go over it again. He wasn't able to come back out right away, which I told him was perfectly fine. He came back out a couple of weeks later and tented off the area again, without using the box, and went over the recessed area. It blended better, and Joe and I were both more satisfied with the result. I felt bad that he spent so much time and effort on a $150.00 job, but Joe insisted on us paying the amount he had quoted. He said he had learned how to do a popcorn texture repair with the popcorn texture gun, which he considered a useful tool to have, and he wanted the job done right, to his satisfaction and to ours. We appreciated Joe's dedication to customer service and would hire him again.

I scheduled the time with the owner, Joe Wood. One of his employees, Jason, came out and pressure washed the house. The gutters in the front of the house had mildew stains that looked better but were still visible. Jason said that was as good as it would come off with the pressure washing, and that Soft Scrub works best on that type of stain. He said they use only water, no chemicals to do their pressure washing, because using chemicals can void the warranty on some siding. When we'd had the house pressure washed a number of years ago, it was by a pressure washing company that used chemicals. Later that evening, when my husband and I arrived home and went out to look at the house after it was dry, there were swaths of lighter color on the siding around the rear bedroom windows. There were also some other areas on the back of the house that had been missed, as they were still dirty with cobwebs and stains. Even though we'd paid half price with the Angie's List Big Deal, we didn't feel we'd gotten our money's worth, and were especially concerned with the areas of discoloration on the rear siding, so I called Joe Wood back and spoke with him. Joe was very responsive, apologized, and said he would come back out himself to get this taken care of to our satisfaction. The following week, he came back out with Jason, looked at the areas of concern, and said the lighter areas appeared to be missed spots that Jason didn't realize had been missed while the siding was still wet. The other areas were acknowledged as just having been overlooked. Joe said they would reclean everything, and Jason cleaned the front, while Joe cleaned the back. Redoing the back of the siding got rid of the light areas of discoloration. Joe thanked us for giving him the opportunity to make the job right. He really seemed to take pride in doing the job right and satisfying the customer. We were impressed with Joe's attitude and later hired him to do another job for us, and would hire him again.

He was personable. He made a conscientious effort to try to do the best he could with the painting in the kitchen, but the paint did not go on very well. He went back three times in the same day to make it work, because he did not like the way it looked. He did the best he could, but it may have just been the paint. There were areas he missed in the bathroom. The overall experience was good. I think he was very intentioned to do the best he could do. He was punctual, responsive, and professional. I would use this provider again, depending on the project.

We had compiled a rather lengthy To-Do list for Joe and his assistant. Within 10 minutes of their prompt arrival, we had agreed on the priority tasks and they started working. Due to misplaced instructions, Joe had to rely on his experience to install a rather difficult light. On-line reviews of the light had warned of problems with shortening the cables, but Joe completed the installation with perfectly aligned lights. The wire shelves went up quickly and are level. Under-the-counter cabinet lighting was a tough fit and required some ingenious maneuvering to fit the lights and electrical wiring. Only two tasks could not be completed due to items being beyond repair. We will be re-hiring All Round Joe when we have the light and door replacements.
Description of Work: Joe installed a track light system with five hanging pendants in the kitchen. His assistant installed 2 wire shelves with slotted bracket braces in the pantry. Joe and assistant installed 6 under-the-cabinet lights that required drilling holes for wires running up to center cabinet interior outlet. Fixed dislodged casing of a recessed light in 12' ceiling and put in lightbulb. Started to replace burned-out lights in 12' high foyer chandelier, but new bulbs didn't light either. Need to decide whether to replace blown sockets or buy new fixture. Grateful they discovered this for us. They also came prepared to fix an exterior door that had a rotting corner. After removing the rotted debris, we realized it was not a solid wood door, so the repair kit would not work. They suggested repair options, but we chose to replace the door instead.

Description of Work: I have been finishing my basement and the only thing I hate doing is mudding and sanding drywall. Joe and another worker showed up on time, were professional and did a great job. Moving to an apartment, I needed help on several things: putting up curtain rods and curtains at all of the windows involved cutting and extensions because of the larger than usual area; an IKEA cabinet that was very tedious to put together was what I most appreciated because I wanted it customized to my use; put up a large wall jewelry armoire. They stayed over an hour longer than the contract called for. The price paid was an Angie's List Big Deal coupon and I got 2 men for this price. I will definitely be calling on Joe in the future.

Overall, I recommend Joe in a heart beat. He is easy to get along, has plenty of experience and most importantly he is very reliable. I do not have anything negative to say about Joe and his helper. It is rare to find a fair and good contractor. I went through dozens and they are history. I will continue to use Joe for any future repairs on any of my properties. THANKS JOE. You are allright!
Description of Work: I purchesed the $299 handyman special through Angie's List. I had a leak on a bedroom wall from one of my properties, also fixed a broken drawer, fixed a chimney which is where the leak originated. My previous handyman, however, never fixed the root of the problem and that is why I fired him. Joe, showed up on time, went over all the work that needed to be done. I was very pleased with the work he did. He is very professional, knowledgable and most of all very reliable. A couple of days later, I had someone broke into the property and stole all copper pipes. I called Joe since I did not know anyone else. He went to the property to secure the back door where they broke into. He called and waited for the police to arrive since I could not make it. I then had him replace all the copper with PVC and fix a bunch of other things that needed to be fixed. He went out of his way to accomodate me in getting the property ready for the new tenant to move in.

Remove existing vanity, reroute pipes so vanity would fit. Replaced floor covering, replace light fixture. Reset toilet and replaced trim. There is still some finishing work I need to complete - painting, etc., but the overall job was done and looks great.
Description of Work: Purchased the Angie',s List special for handyman services for 8 hours for 299.00. Joe showed up on time, with a helper and actually was here for ovewr 6 hours. Some of the things I asked him to do probably did not fall into a handyman category, i.e., moving pipes for plumbing, etc. However, he was so gracious and got everything done. The work was very professionaly done, Joe and his helper left everything clean and my overall experience was this is a talented, dedicated handyman. Thanks.

Joe did a great job on everything on my 'honey do' list. The antiquated cans for the 2 light fixtures could have been a real problem, but Joe knew exactly what to do to adapt the new fixtures to the old-style cans. He spotted a serious shock and fire hazard in a light switch in the basement and took care of it. I've already started my next 'honey do' list for Joe. He will be power washing and water sealing our moldy deck. Can't wait till Spring!
Description of Work: Joe re-installed the sliding closet doors that were stuck in the track; replaced 2 light fixtures; removed old caulking in 2 bathrooms and re-caulked; reinstalled, grouted and re-caulked ceramic tile decorative edge on corner shelf in bathtub; installed a new weather strip at the bottom of our front door; repaired a kitchen drawer that kept falling off the track; repaired plumbing fixture on bathroom sink; installed new light switch in basement storeroom;

Joe was easy to work with and definitely interested in doing a good job and customer satisfaction. I purchased an Angie's List Big Deal for a day's work. Joe repaired the wooden step leading to my front door is less than an hour. Then he repaired some serious cracks where my walls and cathedral ceiling meet. The work involved a two step process so Joe had to return a second time. He offered to include repainting, but I declined because I will be painting all the interior in the coming year.

Joe was polite and kind when coming out to do the estimate, and sent his friend Jamie to do the work. They finished well within the time element I was given with the deal and we anticipate his return to address the landscape issues at a later date.
Description of Work: We had some split rail fence issues with leaning posts and broken rails. We also had some landscape issues. So I bought the Big Deal for a half price savings. We had the company come out and fix the issues.
