Due to this experience I won't shop at Sears. I also won't spend any money on anything they're affiliated with. This includes shopping at K-Mart and purchasing Craftsman tools.
Description of Work: They took out a boiler in an older 1900 sq ft home and installed a new furnace with central air. What they sold me and what they delivered were two different things. The initial salesman came out to give us a quote on installing a new boiler. While he was there he mentioned that the house didn't have central air and asked if that was something I was interested in. I said I was interested but I was worried that they wouldn't be able to change everything from the boiler to the central air while making it look like it was original to the home. The salesman indicated that it wouldn't be an issue and that they'd open up the walls, place the duct work, and close the walls back up. I was at work when the project was being done and being overseen by a friend (my friend wasn't aware of the details of the work being done). When I came home and saw that all of the duct work was outside of the walls I asked the crew why the duct work wasn't in the walls. They told me that there wasn't anything on the paperwork indicating that the duct work should be put in the wall. I called Sears and they told me it wasn't in the paperwork. I asked them what they were going to do about it and they told me houses in Philadelphia are like that. I told them that wasn't what was sold to me by the salesman. They then told me I'd need to place a claim against the sub-contractors insurance since they didn't do the job to my specifications. The problem I had with this is that the reason I decided to go with Sears was because they told us they didn't sub-contract the work out. Then there they were telling us to place a claim on the sub-contractor. I went back to the sub-contractor who told me that wasn't what they were hired to do. They told me it wasn't even something they had the skill set to do. They also told me that it wouldn't be possible to put the duct work in due to how the studs were run in the walls. After I spoke with the sub-contractor I called Sears back and spoke with them about sub-contracting the work out when they told me they don't use sub-contractors; and also being told that they could put the duct work in when apparently it wasn't something that was feasible with the layout behind my walls. They restated that the homes in Philadelphia are like that and then also suggested putting boxes around the duct work. At that point I just wrote Sears off. I ended up having another contractor come out to do unrelated work. While the contractor was sitting at my dining room table he asked me what was going on with the duct work being outside the walls. I told him what I was told by the sub-contractor, that the studs wouldn't allow for duct work to be put in the walls. The contractor told me that wasn't true and that they could have run the duct work inside the walls. At this point he asked me if the fence was a priority or if the duct work was a priority. I asked him to give me an estimate on getting the duct work in the walls. He came back with a quote of $4000, including closing up and re-painting the walls. Before I told him to go ahead with the work I made three appointments with the salesman's at manager at Sears to come out to look at the work that was done. He was supposedly going to bring the salesman out with him. He no called, no showed for all three appointments. He also wouldn't answer any of my phone calls. I told the new contractor to go ahead and start the project. I was home for this work so I could see what was being done. There were no issues whatsoever in getting the duct work in the wall. I took before and after pictures and went back to Sears with it. I told them the duct work was able to be put into the walls without issue. I asked them to pay for the work the other company had to do. They were still resistant to paying for anything extra because it wasn't what was written up on the work order. I asked if this was something I'd have to get my attorney involved with. The man I was speaking with said, "Yeah if you're going to go further with this that's what it would take" after which he hung up on me.

I would tell others to go elsewhere for your appliances. I give the workers a 'c". They don't have very good customer service. They have gone downhill steadily.
Description of Work: I bought my new microwave and dishwasher from them.

Service set up the washer so that the hot and cold water hoses were reversed so that when I needed to wash delicates hot water came out. My machines have been broken for 6 weeks and I have had to spend $120 at laundromat to do my laundry because they have very little availability for service apt. SEARS is terrible.
Description of Work: My Kenmore Elite washer and dryer broke 60 days after I bought them. DO NOT buy Kenmore Elite largest tub capacity and large capacity dryer. They have not worked right since I have owned them.

As far as I know, the service was okay. There was an issue with the lugs on the car; they could not get the lugs off. They did do a thorough going over on the car. They did brakes, wheel alignment and oil change. Sears are generally on the higher end of price. They did locate a small leak in the radiator. They went over the whole car. They were very clear about what needed to be done. I have dealt with them myself. They are pretty upfront about their pricing.
Description of Work: My mom was recently at Sears Auto Centers for brakes and oil change.

The whole process problematical. The stove is working now. My tenets were getting error messages from the control panel. They were patient and not in a rush to fix it. They called around to see who had the best price. Sears had the best price. The technician came out and determined what needed to be done. This is originally a technician from A & E. They said have the parts that were needed to be ordered and he would come back and fix the stove. I called and ordered the parts from A & E said I could not order re-manufactured parts, I was told I could not order those only the technician can order re-manufactured parts. The technician called an ordered the parts and it took a couple day to be delivered. I was then charged again for a service call on the same job. They then came back the following week. The technician came to the house and said he was not able to do the job because it is a two person job. I was told the new appointment was to be done that Saturday. On that Saturday no one showed up and my te called and found out that the appointment was never set. Finally the job was done a couple days later. Overall, it was very frustrating and unorganized between the technicians having them coming in and out and not being able to do the job. There was a lot of confusion between them and the parts manufacture.
