Called Toms Washer and Dryer Repair after seeing good reviews on several sites. My washer is in need of repair. I have a Samsung Front load washer that shakes too much during the spin cycle. I replaced the absorber shocks myself (paid $60 through Amazon for the parts) and it lasted about 6 loads of laundry when the shaking started again. Tom came over and said it needs shock absorbers and that he needs to order them will take 4 days to come in. After I mentioned that I just replaced them we both thought maybe I bought defective parts. He mentioned this should fix it and if it didn't he would eat the price of the shock. So I had to pay almost $200 for shocks (not including labor). He replaced the shocks (they looked identical to the ones I purchased) and it seemed to work. 6 load of laundry later and the problem is back. Called him to let him know the problem is happening again, he was puzzled why it was doing it again, said he doesn't know why it's doing it and the parts he put in should have worked. He called someone who mentioned it might need another part (springs). Said it would cost me around $70 for parts. Well I just spent a lot of money for him to fix a problem that didn't get fixed and he wanted to charge me more for something he doesn't know will fix the problem. Sorry, not happening.

Excellent. Reasonable prices. Just worked on what was needed. Did not try to upsell me anything. Was comfortable with me watching. 90 day warranty. Prompt (a little early, actually). Friendly. Gave me his sermon on washer and dryer safety and how to prevent devastating water damage from washer leaks.

Tom came right away (on a Friday), immediately knew what to do. The expensive user interface board on our dryer might be on its last legs, but Tom got it working again and said that if it goes out within 90 days then he'll only charge us for the part, at retail price. He called the parts store in front of me and let me hear the price - he doesn't mark the price up above retail as Sears and others do. He was genuinely concerned about helping us not spend more than we need to. This was our second time we've used his services and recommend him highly! I'd sure like to find someone like him for other problems around the house!

It went good except he placed his heavy tool box on top of my glass top cooking stove. I asked him to remove it. Tool boxes are placed everywhere and in unsanitary places and I sure didn't want it on top my cooking stove where I prepare food, besides breaking the glass top.

Without a moments hesitation other than to say hello Tom went to work reassuring me that he knew exactly what the problem was. Within moments Tom had not only fixed the problem, but threw in a couple other "quick tips and repairs" to boot! He charged me less than what he'd quoted and off he went...a few moments later, Tom called to say he wanted to check one more thing "just to be sure I could do laundry later with no problems" (Gee thanks Tom! - kidding!!) Anyway he came back and it was clear to me: Tom cares that his work is thorough and that his customers are satisfied. I hope my washer never floods again but if it does Tom is the only repairman I will call. Thee absolute best: Punctual, knowledgeable, professional, informative and determined to be the best in the business...he really is - the best!
Description of Work: My washer flooded my floor on a Saturday morning during a time when it is almost impossible to get someone - anyone to respond. I immediately jumped on Angie's list to find a repairman. Within a couple hours Tom showed up tool box in hand and from the moment I shook his hand I knew: I had the right guy.

I called him on a Friday at 4:45pm and he said he'd come right over - and he did! He was going to grab a sandwich first, but decided he better come right away instead in case he needed something from the parts store before they close. Wow, that's service! He definitely knew what he was doing and had the necessary parts with him. He went above and beyond by shortening our exhaust tubing behind the dryer since the extra length can contribute to overheating. He gave me some brief safety advice (showed us where the water shut-offs were, recommended no one use washers and dryers while asleep or away), seeming genuinely concerned. He specializes in just washers and dryers, so he really knows his stuff. He works quickly but thoroughly. His business card says $15 service charge (that's low!) and 90-day guarantee, which he did let me know. I would absolutely use his service again and recommend him to friends.

Good. Even though he needed parts he did not have, he quickly obtained them and returned. Tom does not mark up parts, so you receive the parts at cost plus his charge for labor.

I called Tom and he was at my house about 2 hours later. I was pleasantly surprised at how quickly he arrived. He explained that the dryer's heater element was OK, and that the problem was probably the over-temperature sensors. I had him replace the sensors and also the rear drum seal. Afterwards the dryer was back to drying clothes like it did when it was new. I'm a happy customer.

I told Tom two things about my broken dryer over the phone; he asked me the make. Then we arranged a time for the service call - SAME DAY. He was 15 minutes EARLY. He had diagnosed the problem over the phone and CAME WITH THE NEEDED PART in hand. Wow. 45 minutes later I had a fixed dryer and the rest of my day. I would recommend in a heartbeat.

Tom gave me a chance to decide what to do, step-by-step, to keep costs down. He took out the pump, showed me it was damaged, replaced it and now everything is fine. He came right away when I called, which I really appreciated. The price I paid included the price of the new pump. I would certainly call him again!

Tom came over to check out my vague description of a leak and diagnosed the problem immediately. Priced parts and installed them about a day later. Even installed a spare part I had. Amazing work - it is like I have a brand new washer and dryer. More importantly I wont worry about flooding or burning neighbors. Would definitely hire again and have already recommended to coworker's.

This started when I tried to replace the drain hose on my washing machine myself. I screwed something up when I tipped the washer on its side (don't trust internet videos on how to fix your washer, people...) and water was getting on the floor. I know when I'm beat, so I called Tom out to fix it. On the bright side, he was able to come out within a couple hours, which I appreciated. He arrived and and immediately started telling me I had too much clothing in there (?- not sure why; it has always worked fine with that much clothing and in fact this particular load was smaller than usual). However, he did identity why the water was getting on the floor- the tub inside had shifted and the spray was running down the side. All seemed fine when he left, and the machine was running... until about 20 minutes later, when I smelled a burning smell and discovered the tub had stopped spinning. I immediately called him back. He was only able to come out two days later, and when he arrived the washing machine was working again somehow. I asked him what the problem had been. He immediately started back up again on the idea that the load of clothing was too large and it had gotten out of balance and that was why it had stopped spinning. I was not terribly convinced by this, since a) you could tell by looking in the load wasn't unbalanced, and b) it seemed much more likely to me that I'd screwed something up by tipping the machine on the side and that was the problem, rather than that a load no larger than what I usually put in had been the problem. Still... I could have been wrong, I'm not a washing machine repairman (obviously). Up until this point he hadn't even opened the case to look it over, until finally I asked if he wouldn't mind just checking there was nothing out of place. He did, and then barely glanced over the parts. Then, as the machine was running, the burning smell started back up again. He changed his tune and said, "Well, it might be the motor getting too hot", and "You never know when those are going to fail", and didn't suggest any way to fix it. When I was understandably irritated by this (I didn't say anything, but I had my arms crossed over my chest) he then started in on a bizarre rant. "You look unhappy. Why are you irritated? Why don't you believe me? Do you think I'm lying to you? Don't you think I'm competent? I've been doing this for 25 years, you know. Didn't you read my reviews?" Instead of trying to fix the problem, which would have solved my irritation, he was essentially trying to get me to placate him. It was very, very weird. He finally left after a few minutes of this. My washing machine, for the record, is still not fixed. When it dies I'm going to just buy a new one rather than call this guy back. It's not worth the hassle.
