Select Kitchen Design

Poorly. We used the West Chester store and spent 20k. This company is disorganized, struggles with truth and has been very difficult to work with. After cabinets and granite countertops installed it was discovered the plans were incorrect and we ended up having to compromise on the kitchen design. Items to be installed were obviously not ordered timely. It seemed they had a very difficult relationship with the installer and our job took nearly 8 weeks to complete. They did make some effort at compensation with a $500.00 gift, but certainly not worth the troubles we've had. We financed a portion of the amount and had to dispute the charge to get them motivated. I removed the dispute just to be done with them. Never again.

We started out working with Scott Backer and his installer Dave Mackintosh from Select Kitchen Design (SKD) at the Greene location in Beavercreek, Ohio. Scott and Dave were out at our home twice. Jennifer Donaldson was at our home the 2nd visit when we learned Scott was leaving Select Kitchen Design and that Jennifer would be taking over Scott?s duties since this was his last day at SKD. During both visits we discussed all details of the design and installation. I even provided them a written copy of our requirements. They all agreed to meet our needs so everything looked like a go once we decided on some final details like cabinet color and trim styles. We met on a 3rd visit with Jennifer where we solidified our design and trim/door styles. Then, a week later, she emails us contracts to sign. One contract was for the installation by Dave and other was for the Cabinets and countertop provided by SKD. When we read the contracts back at home, we discovered there were no details in them on what was really going to get accomplished. Both contracts were very short and generic and had none of our requirements in them which we had discussed in our meetings. You could not tell what they would do or who would be responsible for costs of parts & supplies. In the processes of getting more accurate contract documents, we even wrote out (in contract-like terminology) all of the details then emailed them to Jennifer. Weeks and weeks went by and we never heard back about any real progress. We were just told by Jennifer that she was trying to contact Dave but that she was having a hard time because he was out of town on a job. Bye-the-way, we never got her SKD updated contract for the SKD Cabinets & countertop work. A few more weeks went by but no word, and then we decided to return to her 2 doors that we had borrowed. But when we got to the Greene, the SKD shop was closed down and empty. So we took the doors to the SKD on Lyons road. At the Lyons SKD location, we briefly talked to Jennifer and she acted like she did not even know us. Then said she still has not heard from Dave. That was the last communication we received for SKD. This Company is one to avoid. It appears they do not keep their word and do not like detailed contacts that state what they will do for the customer?s investment.

We tried dealing with one salesperson for months and after 3 wrong sample doors and lack of communication we thought we could salvage the deal with another salesperson. Management was resistant to change but finally agreed. New salesperson, 4th wrong door sample and now no call backs. They wanted 50% down and the balance before we even saw the finished door. Wasted way too much time thinking we could make this work with them.
