First off, we've used Gray's several times in the past to remove brush/shrubs--and we were very pleased with their timeliness/work. However, our latest experience with Gray's was TOTALLY UNACCEPTABLE. As background, I got an estimate from Gray's on May 17, 2017 to cut down a large pine tree & an old flowering crab apple tree--as well as trimming a large hawthorn tree and a sweet gum tree. Estimate was $900 and seemed reasonable. We didn't want the work done until Fall because we wanted our adjacent flower beds to be dormant--and we had a large, occupied "sparrow condominium" in the pine tree and wanted to wait until the birds (and their chicks) had moved on for the Fall. On October 24, I called Gray's & left a voicemail to schedule services. Never heard back from them. I called again on October 30 and left another voicemail. I got a callback the next day and was told they'd be out the week of November 6 to perform the requested services and would advise me of the exact date. Not having heard from them by November 8, I called and left a voicemail to check on status. Still no response. I called and left another voicemail on their main number the afternoon of November 13. I then opted to call their "emergency" number (937)245-0870 later that same afternoon to check on status. [I'd talked with another Dayton-area tree service a few days before, but was still hoping to use Gray's--a Miamisburg-based company which we'd used previously.] I was able to reach one of the owners at the emergency number. He said he thought he'd returned my November 8 call. (He hadn't.) He said he'd check with his crews who were working elsewhere--and would call me back that evening. It's now November 21 and I still haven't heard back from Gray's. We've since contracted with another company to perform the requested services. I understand that Gray's is probably busy. BUT, if they are too busy to do the work, they should, at least, have the common courtesy to let the customer know that they can't get to you--AND SHOULD RETURN PHONE CALLS IN A TIMELY MANNER. We won't use them again and will advise others of our "non-customer service" experience.

We had large (30-foot) hawthorn tree in the corner of our side yard (with fences adjacent to it) which had a couple of large cracked limbs and a lot of dead limbs though-out--as well as a large (35-foot) pine tree with some dead branches in it. Also had a 20-foot, nasty, gnarled honeysuckle tree/bush in the same side yard close to a 7-foot vinyl fence. In addition, we had several large piles of plant debris, dead limbs, etc. behind our backyard fence--from clearing the tree line at the back of our property over the past couple of years. Gray's was referred to use by our friends. I called Howard Gray/owner on 5/5/2015. He came by the following day to give us an estimate. Personable and professional, he said he'd contact us the first part of the week to schedule the work--as he would have a crew in our area. On the morning of 5/12/2015, his son called and asked if they could come by and do the work--as they were finishing up a job nearby. They showed up about a half-hour later, assessed the job, and got right to work. They, too, were friendly and professional. They did a great job: cleaned out the hawthorn tree and cut down the honeysuckle at ground level--without damaging the nearby fences and cleaned out a lot of the dead branches in the pine tree. They also ground up and hauled off the piles of debris behind our back fence. They were done in a couple of hours. They thoroughly raked and cleaned up their work areas. We are very pleased with the results. And will definitely use them again when the time comes. They are a local Miamisburg company with over 60 years of experience. We believe in supporting local businesses whenever we can--especially if they are as professional and competent as these guys are.
