Deck & Fence Renewal Systems

Rich and his team did an excellent job on a badly weathered deck with lots of odd angles and surfaces. They deep cleaned (high pressure wash) the deck, manually applied two coats of Behr DeckOver on all the horizontal surfaces (floor and top rails). They sprayed one coat of Behr regular deck paint on the vertical surfaces. They then sprayed a final coat of regular Behr deck paint on all horizontal and vertical surfaces to insure a color match for the entire deck and railings. Their workmanship and professional approach were excellent. They were punctual and efficient. Rich's approach is conservative and deliberate. He allowed extra time for the drying of the thick paint on the horizontal surfaces. When rain threatened one day, he quickly decided to wait a second day for additional drying. This critical decision increased the quality of the adhesion of the paint to the critical horizontal surfaces. He quickly understood the special needs of this deck and agreed to use the deck paint I wanted event though it was not the paint he normally uses. Since he had not used Behr DeckOver recently so he said he called the Behr factory to confirm some of the particular application requirements given the condition of our deck. Additionally, I was especially impressed absence of over-spray on the house where it meets the deck. All residue was cleaned up and hauled away. His cost was in the middle of the estimates I received. I feel we received a superior quality deck renewal at a fair and equitable price. His team was courteous and friendly as well as competent, efficient, and very professional.

Very prompt and excellent service. They came out within days of calling to do the free estimate - $368 to power wash the deck and apply a seal/stain, which seemed very reasonable. Was able to schedule the service for a couple of weeks later and they did a fantastic job. They were quick but did a thorough job. They were also very careful to apply the seal/stain to just the deck.

The project went very well. I was very impressed with Brian, the carpenter. His work looks great, he was very neat on the job and he had good ideas along the way. I was so pleased with their quality and service that I'm having them come back to do some painting and a deck sealing job.

Deck Renewal Systems's price was reasonable and I will use them again if needed.

.The initial service was satisfactory but after 4 months we noticed flacking and worn areas. A rep came to inspect the surface and said he would send a repair crew to redo these areas. They came two weeks later but without the matching coating color & used what was left in an original can, which amounted to very little remaining. They completed what they could with this small amount of coating and said they will order the same matching color if we had additional future problems. With this recent experience, our level of their professionalism has dropped to a "C" level and I may consider another source for additional service in this area.

My original contact with this company was in July for an estimate to power wash the house and deck. When I received the estimate I noted that they do many other things as well. I called and arranged to have my ramp to the out building included. No problem was the reply. Once again I called and asked about having my shutters painted. No problem. This now became a two day job. On the first day they power washed the house and ramp. The next day they sealed my deck, the ramp, removed my shutters, painted the shutters, and reinstalled them. The men doing the job encountered a nest of ground bees near the house that none of us knew about. Boy oh boy were they prepared to do battle! Apparently, it is not uncommon for folks in this business to deal with angry insects. They completed the job without being stung and left me with a completely refreshed house. I am very pleased.

They were professional, asked for feedback, very detail oriented, and made sure we were happy every step of the way. They cheerfully worked around horses, dogs, and the roofers. Did a great job, will recommend them and hire them again. Everything looks great. Very customer focused and responsive.

These folks were excellent . They showed up on time, they protected my surrounding flowers, they took their time and were very thorough in sealing. My deck is older, and they made it look like new without damaging it by using too strong a pressure wash. Best job ever done on it - will call them back next year!

The product used was a Sherwin Williams solid color deck stain/paint. I'm not sure whether it's just a flimsy product or if DRS thinned the mixture to be able to use less product at a higher cost to me or not, but it is very thin and has to be touched up every week or so. The initial coat was sprayed on and was not thick enough to even cover the deck completely. I had to contact the owner who came out to inspect it and had his crew reapply the stain with a roller. Better coverage, but as stated above, still such a thin product that it chips constantly and we hardly use the deck as is. Cost was $750 and after recently helping a friend re-cover her deck, I now know that for much less money, I can get a much more durable coating from Lowe's and do it myself in under an hour. Secondly, they used our hose and water supply without informing us to wash their tools afterwards. In my backyard. Meaning that, in my otherwise beautifully green yard, I now have a large dead patch of brown grass where the stain / paint was rinsed into the soil. Will not use again. Very polite workers and owner; poor quality of work & products.

The crew did an excellent job in staining the deck. It looks great. The appearance of the finished deck exceeded my expectations. They were very careful and precise in their work. I also appreciated that they were flexible in meeting my schedule for staining the deck. Highly Recommended!

Not well. The previous people, who did our deck, put down the wrong kind of stain over an oil based, semi transparent stain and it was peeling badly. We asked Deck Renewal Systems for a solution to the problem! They told us they would pressure wash it to get rid the old peeling semi transparant stain. Then re-apply a semi-transparent stain that would only last 1-2 years before it would peel again. He said that's all we could do at this point because of the mistake previously made. We were disappointed. We decided to talk to another person at this point.

Great experience all around. I called and left a message, but explained I would not be available until a particular time, and I was impressed I received a call back at precisely the time I mentioned. Price was reasonable. Scheduled us about three weeks out, which was fine considering this is a weather dependent business. Process took about two days, which occurred entirely while we were at work. Deck, fence, and railing look great. They did a thorough job, even getting the lattice work blocking access to the underside of the deck. Left no trash or other debris. Great professionalism. Would definitely use them again and recommend. One thing to keep in mind: naturally they have to step in any flower beds beside the deck, so we did well to have the work done in the fall after most of our plants were fading.

They were fantastic! They did a great job washing and repairing and were also very friendly.

I would recommend Deck Renewal Systems and hire them again. Their prices were reasonable and I would absolutely use their services in the future.

The decks looked great when they cleaned them on Monday. They came out on Thursday and sealed the decks using a spray sealant. When I came home the deck looked pretty good, although they missed some spots on the edges of the deck itself. A couple of places beaded up with some sap like substance. I called and they explained that it was something in the board that would eventually wash away in the rain. I also noticed that some parts of the deck looked more worn and damaged after treatment and felt like I would get a splinter when I touched the surface. The most concerning was the deck sealant that somehow covered all of my windows in the back of the house. I called DRS and they sent someone out the next day to clean the windows. I had warned them before and asked that they take extra special care when they sprayed the sealant as I had the same issue two years ago. I also took pictures of the windows. I arrived home after the first cleaning and the windows still had the sealant on them, so I called back and talked to the owner who told me he would come out the next day to clean. He did in fact come back and clean the windows. I was not happy to learn that he used my ladder in the garage that was not easy to get to and i had to come home and re-position things to clear my walkway to the garage door. I expected that he would come prepared with his own equipment to clean the windows. After his cleaning, the windows still have sealant on them and I am going to have to get the windows professionally cleaned and that will cost $200. If they do not come clean at that point, I will have to take further action. This makes the grand total for my deck cleaning approximately $815. DRS should pay the $200 for the cleaning of the windows. The owner was very responsive to my calls and was nice about the whole ordeal but I have some substance on my windows that needs to be removed. I wish I would have gone with the other group that was more expensive but had a better story on the care of the house during the process. I could not recommend DRS to others.

I was very pleased with how responsive the company was, as usual. We've had them maintain our deck for many years. This time, though, we had decided to put our house on the market, and really needed the deck at least power washed. Usually, we do the maintenance later in the spring, but we were having an open house and wanted to have it ready. I called the company and asked what we could do; fortunately, the weather this spring was unusually warm, and they could accommodate the washing and the staining. They came out to wash the deck right away; then, we had to wait a few days due to rainy weather for it to dry adequately to do the staining. That said, they did a great job as they always do. We didn't lift a finger - they moved all the wrought iron deck furniture and worked around it. All the work was done before the open house was scheduled, and we were very grateful for the extra effort the company made to make our house look its best. We didn't even have to be home (and usually aren't) - they use a ladder to get to the second story deck, and then send a bill. This is a great, and really reliable company!

Deck Renewal Systems did a great job. The work was done correctly and beautifully. When we had areas peel they were out within a few days to re-sand and repaint the peeling. Would definitely recommend.

I have used them every 2 or 3 years starting in 2005 when this company was recommended by my mother who was a realtor for 20 years in the Dayton area. Very happy with their response times, quality of work and they have always offered me a discount by mail each year as a returning customer. Will continue to use Deck Renewal Systems in the future.

We were extremely pleased with him. They had to dodge the rain and so the work stretched out a bit. They were here when they said they would be here. They did their job and they did a good job. He came out to give an estimate and he measured everything. He gave us a nice written estimate of what he would do and how much it would cost. We told him that we would give a call back when were ready to get it done. When we called him, we set up an appointment and he was here on time. He came with color charts and we picked out the color that we wanted. He sent a man one day to pressure wash it. When it was dry, he came back and replaced the boards that had to be replaced. When they were done, he came back the next day and did the staining portion. He got it all done quickly and on time. He got it done neatly. Even though the furniture of deck portion was older, we started to move it. He said that he could do it. They seem to be very knowledgeable of what they were doing and I appreciated that. We had no complaints with him.

I think they did a fine job. They were punctual and I had no problems with them.

Workers showed up on days they scheduled. The power wash was done pretty well (we did have to do some scraping ourselves, though). The stain went on pretty well except on the areas where we had replaced some deck boards which were bare wood. After they left and the stain had dried, it was obvious that it needed a second coat on those bare areas in particular. They left very little touch up paint. After a call to the company, however, they were most accommodating to fix the problem and also lowered the charges a bit.

They examined and quoted the above work on 5/11/2011. We agreed to have them do it. We were informed that they were far behind in their work due to the extreme amount of rain we had this spring/early summer. We were scheduled for the week of 20 June. That slipped until 1 July. We were kept advised of this slippage. They pressure washed both our wood porch and our deck. The young man who did the work was polite, hard working and efficient. They returned the following afternoon to apply the finish. We are very pleased with the result and will use them again.

THEY ARE VERY CAREFUL OF THE PLANTS AND SHRUBS. THEY ARE VERY PROFESSIONAL AND HAVE VERY GOOD WORK ETHICS. THEY ARE A PLEASANT GROUP OF GUYS TO HAVE AROUND. THEY ARE ALWAYS PROMPT AND THEY DO GOOD QUALITY WORK.

MY DECK LOOKS GOOD. THEIR PRICE WAS A LITTLE HIGH. THEIR RESPONSIVENESS WAS GOOD. THEY WERE A BIT LATE SOMETIMES. THEIR PUNCTUALITY WAS VERY GOOD. THEY WERE VERY NICE PEOPLE.
